Prince George’s County Police Department

Cpl. Mujahid Ramzziddin was identified as the off-duty Prince George’s County police officer was shot and killed in Brandywine, Maryland on Wednesday morning. Ramzziddin, who was off-duty at the time, was shot after he tried to protect a woman who was threatened during a domestic dispute.

The suspect who murdered Ramzziddin also was killed by responding officers. Chief Hank Stawinski said at a news conference that Ramzziddin “saved her life by giving his own.” A witness near the scene said they heard more than 10 shots fired.

The suspect in the shooting has not yet been identified.

The Prince George’s County Police department tweeted:

“With broken hearts, we are announcing that one of our officers was shot and killed today. The brave officer was shot while stepping in to protect a woman threatened in a domestic situation. Please keep his family and our department in your prayers.”

Officials said that Ramzziddin was a Marine Corps veteran, a father of four and his mother’s only child.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan ordered flags to fly at half-staff in honor of Corporal Ramzziddin.

“The murder of Prince George’s County police officer Corporal Mujahid Ramzziddin in the line of duty today is an unspeakable tragedy. The First Lady and I are praying for his family, loved ones, and the department during this difficult time. Corporal Ramzziddin was a military veteran and a distinguished law enforcement officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of his neighbors and community. His memory and service will never be forgotten.

I have extended my full support to County Executive Rushem Baker, Police Chief Hank Stawinski, and all of the dedicated men and women of the Prince George’s County Police Department as they mourn their fallen fellow officer. The state is standing by to offer any assistance needed to Prince George’s County as they investigate this terrible and senseless crime,” Governor Hogan said in his official statement.

According to officials, seven of the 128 officers who died in 2017 were shot while responding to domestic disturbance reports.

On February 21st, Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire businessman Mark Cuban was fined $600,000 in response to his comments that the team is “tanking” and that it would be better if they would continue to lose. On Julius “Dr. J” Irving’s new podcast, House Call with Dr. J, Cuban said:

“I’m probably not supposed to say this, but I just had dinner with a bunch of our guys the other night, and here we are, you know, we weren’t competing for the playoffs. I was like, ‘Look, losing is our best option,'”

“[NBA Commissioner] Adam [Silver] would hate hearing that, but at least I sat down and I explained it to them. And I explained what our plans were going to be this summer, that we’re not going to tank again. This was, like, a year and a half of tanking, and that was too brutal for me.

“But being transparent…I think that’s the key to being kind of a players’ owner and having stability — you’ve got to communicate.”

According to the NBA, Cuban’s comments were detrimental to the league. Cuban has never been one to mince words and usually is very vocal with his opinions. It seems the NBA didn’t take too kindly to Cuban saying what everyone already seemed to know: the Mavericks are tanking for a better draft pick. The Mavericks are 18-40 this season, the third worst in the league.

It hasn’t been a great week for Cuban, who also recently got caught up in a scandal involving allegations of rampant sexual harassment and misconduct in the Mavericks organization. Published in a story by Sports Illustrated, former employees have claimed that Cuban knew of these issues, but either didn’t do enough to investigate them or flat out ignored them.

In any case, Cuban’s fine for his comments shouldn’t hurt him too bad financially.

Netflix has just released the first sneak peek of their highly anticipated Lost In Space reboot and it’s probably not what you were expecting. Gone is the original camp of the 1965 cult series about a family sent into space who’s journey veers of course, and instead, we get this glossy, serious science fiction action drama that resembles the likes of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Still interested?

The reboot will follow the same premise of the original series in which the Earth is becoming inhabitable and a family gets sent out into space in search of a new beginning. The Robinson family, part of a highly trained mission to establish a new colony in space, is unexpectedly pulled off course forcing them to crash land on a lost planet. In the original series, the recurring villain of the series, Dr. Smith, was played by Jonathan Harris. But Netflix has flipped the script by casting cult-favorite Parker Posey in the role. Though Posey is not present in the first trailer for the project, she is still probably the most exciting part about this particular reboot.

Parker Posey is known for her unique comedy roles in movies like Waiting for Guffman, Dazed And Confused, Best In Show, and Netflix’s Mascots. She’s the type of actor that would fit seamlessly within the campy-confines of a sci-fi cult fantasy world and she’s weird enough to be the kind of nefarious villain viewers would want to see on a weekly basis. Let’s hope none of the Robinsons challenge her knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System, less they want to feel her wrath.

The original 60’s Lost in Space ran for 85 episodes on CBS and was already rebooted in 1998 as a feature film starring William Hurt and Matt LeBlanc. Netflix’s Lost in Space will star Molly Parker, Parker Posey, Toby Stephens, and Ignacia Serricchio. And while the first trailer has certainly peeked our interest in the series, it also has left us with more questions than answers.

Lost In Space is slated to premiere on Netflix’s online streaming site April 13th, 2018.

But it appears as if SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan doesn’t agree with Commissioner’s Shane McMahon’s decision. Bryan feels like “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal deserves a shot at Roode. This match may just develop into a triple threat match as the weeks go by…

Happy National Margarita Day! February 22 is a day set aside to celebrate those tasty tequila-based cocktails known as margaritas. It is a drink that is shaken, not stirred.

Please shake it responsibly!

There are various possible origin stories of the margarita cocktail. One story suggests that the drink was invented way back in 1938 by Carlos “Danny” Herrera in his restaurant located half-way between Tijuana and Rosarito, Mexico. The name of Herrera’s restaurant is Rancho La Gloria. Another story suggests that this tasty alcoholic beverage was really concocted back in October 1941 by a bartender named Don Carlos Orozco.

It isn’t known the exact date or the identity of the real inventor of the margarita. Each origin story of the drink varies considerably, with the dates ranging from the late 1930s all the way up to October 1961.

By the 1970s, people were tired of simple margaritas. Well, not really. But I’m sure that many margarita fans were very hyped when the first frozen margarita machine hit the market. That machine was first invented on May 11, 1971 by Dallas restaurateur Mariano Martinez.

We may not know when exactly the first margarita was made, nor can we legitimately apply credit to any single inventor of that drink. But what we do have is the ingredients and preparation info to help you make a margarita of your own.

What Are The Ingredients For A Margarita?

• 2 ounce Tequila
• 1 ounce Lime Juice
• 1 ounce Cointreau
• A lime slice and grains of salt to apply to the rim of the glass

How To Prepare A Margarita?

• First, you’ll need to rub a lime slice on the rim of your glass. This will make the salt stick.
• Second, get to shaking! Shake the rest of the ingredients with ice.
• Pour ingredients into your glass.
• Make sure that you pour your ingredients over ice and be careful not to dislodge any salt.

Pickerington High School North was placed on lockdown this morning, according to Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The school district posted to Twitter to provide an update, saying that Pickerington High School North was placed on a precautionary lockdown this morning while authorities investigated a “rumor.”

At this time, all students and staff are safe, and the rumor was determined to be inaccurate. The Fairfield County sheriffs office was on the scene assisting with the investigation.

Thie situation appears to be resolved at this time. No other details were released.

Pickerington High School North is a public high school in Pickerington, Ohio. It is one of two high schools in Pickerington Local School District, the other school being Pickerington High School Central.

Pickerington High School North is the newest high school built in the PLSD. The Lakeview Junior High and PHSN are both on the same campus (located at the corner of Refugee Road, Pickerington Road, and Ault Road.). Pickerington Lakeview is 7th and 8th grade. The school employs approximately 158 staff members. The school has sports programs that include football, boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling, boys tennis, girls tennis, boys soccer, girls soccer, boys golf, girls golf, cross country, cheerleading, track and field, baseball, softball, and Marching Band.

Levi Lewis, a former student at Indiana University student, is facing drug charges after police alleged he has been selling out of the university’s TKE fraternity house.

According to reports, Lewis’ activity was made known to police in December after police reportedly found 14 pounds of marijuana, Vyvanse, more than $3,000 in cash and three vape canisters inside a car parked at his fraternity house.

Court documents show that when asked what drugs he sells via text message, Lewis replied “I mean shrooms and moonrocks rn. Other things from time to time. Acid often.” When asked if he sold “coke” or “molly” he replied he sometimes does.

On Dec. 30, they told investigators at IU that Lewis and a non-student, 41-year-old Michael Pardee allegedly went to Evansville to sell drugs. Police said Lewis arranged the deal and Pardee ended up fatally shot during it. Lewis was reportedly in the car with Pardee when the shooting took place and called 911.

Police said Pardee left his truck at the TKE house in Bloomington. A search warrant was served and authorities found the drugs listed above, including 26 Vyvanse pills prescribed to Lewis. The next day, Evansville police were granted a search warrant for Lewis’ phone and discovered evidence that reportedly tied Lewis to large-scale narcotics dealing, some deals taking place at the TKE house.

“When we were notified by Indiana University and IUPD regarding violations of TKE’s Bylaws and Constitution, Tau Kappa Epsilon took immediate steps to uphold our values and principles through closing our Gamma-Kappa chapter,” the chapter said on Wednesday.

Police discovered that Lewis had a prior conviction for possession of marijuana and charged him with dealing marijuana, possession of cocaine, both felonies, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

The University released a full statement on Lewis’ arrest:

“Indiana University immediately acted to investigate the alleged behavior upon learning of it and worked to support the IU Police Department in determining the facts of the case. These are serious allegations not in line with the values of IU and certainly not acceptable for the safety and well-being of our students. We support the actions of TKE International in closing the chapter given the nature of these charges.”

His first court date is set for March 14 in Monroe County, Indiana.

TKE At Indiana University Suspended For Three Years

In case you’ve been living under a rock (or you’re just not a Star Wars fan, in which case you’re missing out,) Han Solo, the lovable rogue of the original Star Wars movies as well as J.J. Abrams’ 2015 The Force Awakens, is getting his own origin movie. Fan reaction to the announcement was mixed with some saying we didn’t need a Han Solo origin story while others simply welcomed more Star Wars movies. The production has also been plagued by numerous issues including reshoots, the departure of original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and finally Ron Howard taking over directing to try and clean up the mess.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to debut on May 25th, so it is bound to be one of the summer’s biggest blockbuster hits. Even if the movie isn’t all that great, Star Wars movies always crush at the box office. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra, and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett.

Much of the plot is unknown at this time, but one thing is for sure: we’re going to see Han and Chewie pilot the Millenium Falcon for the first time, and that alone is worth the price of admission.

The trailer for the film was released weeks ago but on February 22nd a version of the trailer popped up online that was redubbed with the Beastie Boys’ song “Sabotage” and it matches up perfectly. The song fits the mood and aesthetic that I’m sure the directors were going for and is spot on for a character like Han Solo.

Black Panther is shattering records left and right, bringing out the best in people on the way.

The Alpha Xi chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at Florida A&M university provided students with free movie tickets to the screening of Black Panther a day before the official release of the movie. Students received the tickets in return for a donation of three canned goods.

The fraternity drew over 130 students to donate, collecting over 400 cans of food.

The fraternity purchased a private theatre screening for Thursday, Feb, 15, at the Regal Cinema Theatre. The fraternity realizes that a movie of this importance will draw much attention and will serve as an excellent platform to give back to the campus and the community.

The fraternity drew over 130 students to donate, with some students bringing extra canned goods in support of the cause. Student Sade Anderson said, “It’s great to have an opportunity to give back to those less fortunate especially considering how this movie has impacted the community.”

The Alpha Xi chapter collected over 400 canned goods from students and donated the proceeds to the Kearney Homeless Shelter on Saturday, Feb. 18. Rootz Macena an employee voiced her gratitude for giving back. She said, “things like this should happen more often, the shelter is very appreciative of it.”

Rideshare services are the hidden knights of America. They are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. They blend in with traffic, and at a moments notice, are there to help someone in need. Sure, they’re sometimes rude, awkward, questionable navigators, etc. etc. but their profession is a noble one. They are the defenders of the night: taking you to and fro your drunken escapades.

Now with Uber Express POOL, you’re nightly horizons can expand and you can save. The new service is supposedly 75% cheaper than UberX and up to 50% cheaper than UberPOOL. If I can pay for a ride with pocket change, I’m all in.

What Is Uber Express POOL?

It’s the quickest and cheapest service on the Uber app because it uses a new system to pick up and drop off POOL riders on a more direct route. The trick? Walking. So simple, it just. might. work. Once a rider requests an Uber Express POOL, they’ll be prompted to walk to an Express spot nearby. Ideally, that rider’s assigned pickup location will line up with other passenger’s Express spots. Ultimately, each passenger will be dropped off at another Express spot that is both along the route and close to their inputted address. The result is a streamlined ride with fewer turns and circles and thus, cheaper fairs and shorter ETAs.

How Does It Work?

The new service appears to be pretty intuitive and user-friendly. First, open the Uber app and choose Uber Express POOL as your rideshare option. The first time you use it, the app will prompt you with some useful information about it.

Once Express POOL is selected, Uber will start gathering information for your ride. This may take a little longer than normal because there are more algorithms in the mix. Based on your co-rider(s) and driver locations, you’ll be assigned a pickup location (within a few blocks of where you are), walking directions, and the ETA of your pickup time.

Once you’re in the car, the app will choose your best drop-off location. No, this probably won’t be at your front door, but it also won’t require too much additional cardio. You’ll also get walking directions to your final destination so just follow the yellow brick road after drop-off.

What Cities Will Have It?

It’s already been piloted in San Fransisco and Boston so they’re ahead of the game. As of today, Wednesday, Feb. 21, Uber Express POOL has also officially launched in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, San Diego, and Denver. Everyone else in the U.S. must practice the art of patience as they’ll have to wait until it’s rolled out later this quarter.

Salisbury High School in Mississippi has been placed on “Code Orange”  after violent charges were made on social media.

According to police, the social media threat, which could be seen on Facebook and depicted threats of violence, claimed that a school with the letter “SHS” in its name would be targeted.

Salisbury Township police said they were notified early in the morning over the social media post and boosted police presence around the school.

As this story is developing, more information will be updated as made available.

What happened?

According to Fox 46, the post came from a person identified as “Ray Andres,” with the threat starting in Guam and spreading to the United States; another account that had changed its name to “Ray Andres” also claimed to be from Salisbury, North Carolina.

According to WBTV, it is believed that the original threat was made against another high school, but the school had been placed under a “Code Yellow” lockdown; SHS principal Luke Brown confirmed that the level was raised to “Code Orange” after additional threats were found on social media. The current lockdown is defined as the following:

“A Code Orange lockdown means that all doors are locked, students are restricted to their classrooms, visitors are not allowed on campus, and teaching continues.”

Police are also currently investigating the situation. Brown gave the following statement to the Salisbury Post:

“We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and take all necessary measures in assuring that our school remains safe.”

What do we know about the post?

The original social media post said the following:

“I will not be telling people what my name is, but I will bring a gun to school tomorrow so be prepared to hear shoots.”

A post made 10 minutes later wrote:

“Yes SHS is the school I want.”

According to WTVA, Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson claimed that the original version of the post was originally written in regards to Springfield High School in Ohio. The Springfield Police Division in Ohio posted the following on their Facebook page in response:

“In response to the recent threat toward Springfield High School that has been circulating: The Springfield Police Division takes all threats against our community seriously. We are actively investigating this incident and are keeping school and public officials advised. There is evidence that the original Facebook post that started this incident was hoaxed, but the Police and School officials will take appropriate security measures and there will be a police presence at the High School tomorrow. We are also working with Facebook officials to track down the origins of the first post. Should we locate the source, that person(s) will be arrested, charged, and prosecuted. – Chief Graf”

Elon Musk continued his quest for space dominance on February 22nd, as his company SpaceX sent another rocket into orbit in a spectacular pre-dawn launch at Vandenberg Air Base in California. The rocket is carrying a Spanish radar satellite as well as two prototype relay stations for Musk’s proposed plan of creating an orbital network of broadcasting stations.

Despite having recovered the rocket’s first stage (what powers it out of our atmosphere,) no attempt was made to collect it again this time around. This portion of the rocket had been used in a previous SpaceX launch in August 2017. Musk said on Twitter “Missed by a few hundred meters, but fairing landed intact in water…Should be able catch it with slightly bigger chutes to slow down descent.”

SpaceX and Musk confirmed that the rocket’s entire payload had been deployed successfully in a series of tweets:

Allow me to put on my conspiracy hat for a second but does anyone share my suspicions that Musk is simply setting himself up to be the next Bond villain? Setting up a network of satellites just screams “I’m going to attempt to take over the world and lead it into a new age” to me. Someone get Daniel Craig on the line and just tell him to be prepared in case the inevitable happens.

Last night, the United States Women’s Hockey team pulled off a comeback for the ages on 38th the anniversary of the legendary Miracle on Ice.

Headed into the game as underdogs against their Canadian rivals from the north, Hilary Knight scored the first goal of the game for Team USA, putting the Americans up 1-0 heading into the second period. However, just two minutes into the second period, the four-time defending champion Canadians would snag a goal, tying the game at 1. Five minutes later, the Canadians scored a second goal, giving them their first lead of the game, a lead that they would carry deep into the third period.

While things were looking bleak for Team USA as time in the third and final period dwindled down, the Americans were able to capitalize on a poor line shift by the Canadians, scoring a breakaway goal to tie the game 2-2.

The game would remain tied at two all the way until the end of overtime, forcing the game to go to a high-intensity penalty shootout.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The United States win broke Canada’s streak of four straight Olympic gold medals in women’s hockey.

A man purposefully drove into Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut, according to reports.

The unidentified driver was taken to Bridgeport Burns Unit. He reportedly set himself on fire, as gas cans were found inside the car. The man is reportedly in his 20s.

The Middletown Mayor says the crash was ‘intentional’.

Chief William McKenna said state police, Hartford and FBI bomb squads are on the scene at Middlesex Hospital and at the driver’s home. Furthermore, he said that the hospital will “be a crime scene for quite some time.”

Middletown Mayor Dan Drew said the man who is thought to be in his 20s, drove into the emergency room entrance around 10 a.m. Witnesses told police the man set himself on fire. Officials say the man had gasoline cans in his car. The bomb squad and state and federal authorities have been called into help. He is currently at Bridgeport Hospital with burn injuries, in critical condition.

Police have cordoned off the man’s residence as part of the investigation. They said the man was known to police and homes in that area have been evacuated.

Mayor Drew says they believe there is no threat to the community, and they believe it is an isolated incident.

Lyon takes a commanding 3-1 lead on aggregate into the second and final leg. Lyon currently sits fourth in France’s Ligue 1, while Villarreal are 6th in Spain’s La Liga.

During the first match in France, Tanguy Ndombele, Nabil Fekir and Memphis Depay scored for Olympique Lyonnais.

Rick and Morty fans rejoice! The Szechuan sauce is officially coming back to McDonalds’ everywhere.

The Szechuan sauce was first introduced by McDonald’s in 1998 as a special promotion for the Disney film Mulan. It was advertised as a limited time condiment, and once the marketing for the film had ended, the sauce was removed from circulation. However, the demand for the unique sauce came back in a big way when mad scientist Rick, from the Cartoon Network show Rick and Morty, explained how he was on a quest to get the mythical, delicious sauce.

Suddenly, fans of the show were all over social media demanding McDonald’s bring back the Szechuan sauce. McDonald’s, being the corporate giant that they are, saw a major opportunity and decided it was the perfect time to reintroduce the sauce if only to satisfy the increasing demand for it. On October 22nd, 2017 McDonald’s put the sauce back into circulation but just for that one day.

It didn’t go over the way that McDonald’s had planned.

Demand was so extreme that fans were lining up outside McDonald’s locations everywhere for hours just to get their hands on a packet of the sauce. Due to a limited amount that had been supplied to each restaurant, fans went crazy trying to get the sauce. There was even what was described as ‘riot-like behavior’ at a McDonald’s in Los Angeles.

On February 22nd, the company announced they would be bringing the Szechuan Sauce back again — this time with a much larger stock. Starting on February 26th, the Szechuan sauce will be available at all McDonald’s locations in the United States, while supplies last (which the company hopes will be much longer than last time.)

After the NBA became predictable (hope you’re ready for Warriors vs. Cavaliers Round 4) and the NFL’s product lost a step (not to mention the concussion and anthem controversies), I found myself in need of a new sport to regularly watch.

While I had always played soccer growing up, I never cared much to watch it outside of the World Cup. But as I got older, I found myself watching more and more of the game the world calls football, and I found why people of all shape, sizes, and colors go crazy for it: outside of the excellent on-field product and concise game times (soccer games, barring overtime, run for just two hours with commercials), the game is filled with never-ending drama and storylines.

Transfer rumors, coach hirings and firings, players f*cking teammates wive’s, promotion & relegation, corruption scandals, oil sheik money — the list of regularly occurring soccer storylines goes on and on — so this new story about RB Leipzig building a smoking room for an opposing team’s coach is merely the latest.

RB Leipzig will reportedly create a smoking room at their home stadium ahead of their showdown with Napoli on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League to cater for the habit of visiting manager Maurizio Sarri.

According to Bild, building work is being done at the Red Bull Arena to give Sarri an area in which he can smoke. Napoli have reportedly asked for the smoke detectors to be turned off when the Serie A side head to Leipzig.

The FUSSBALL Bild Twitter account provided some images of the area being put together, which is said to be 3.5 metres high and 3 metres wide.

Michigan State University has recently faced flooding on campus that is said to have been the worst the school has faced in over 40 years.

What happened?

According to interim President John Engler during a news conference, the nearby Red Cedar River was above 9 feet Wednesday, with the flood stage at 7 feet. According to The Detroit News, he gave the following statement:

“Be careful if you’re trying to come to campus. Changing conditions are affecting not only the roads but sidewalks and walkways.”

Warmer temperatures, melting snow and ice in the area, and recent rain is believed to be what caused the river to flood.

University staff had planned to work until late Wednesday in order to installed plastic barriers filled with sand along the river; reportedly, Lynda Boomer, director of planning design and construction for MSU, confirmed a barrier measured around 1,200 feet will be kept up until spring. Reportedly, this is the first time the school has deployed a flood barrier on campus.

According to MSU Today, various locations on campus and nearby roads have been closed down, including the Auditorium Road Loop and the IM Circle pool. In addition, Thursday and Friday classes that were meant to be held at the Computer Center, Jenison Fieldhouse and Kresge Art Center have been relocated. In addition, the following warnings have been issued:

“The following sidewalks will be closed: all sides of the Computer Center; between the Computer Center and the Hannah Administration Building; on the south side of Hannah Administration Building up to the south building entrance. The bridge from Wells Hall to the Computer Center will also be closed.”

“Access to the Computer Center will be minimally available through the north entrance only, but anyone wishing to enter the building will be escorted through the construction area to the entrance. All other entrances are emergency egress only. Be prepared for significant construction work and noise in the area. The south entrance to the Administration Building will also be closed.”

“Employees who work in buildings along the river are advised to watch for water seeping into the basements and to alert the Flood Command Center at 517-884-9511 if this occurs.”

What is being said about the flood?

Diane Cross, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Transportation, has also released the following flood warning:

“We had a trouble spot this am on U.S. 24/Telegraph under U.S. 12/Michigan Avenue from about 6 a.m.-1 p.m. We got a pump out there and cleared it. In the Dearborn area, when a lot of rain causes the Ecorse Creek to rise, we get some flooding on Telegraph.”

Road Commission spokeswoman Emily Kizer has also issued the following statement:

“We ask that drivers use caution anytime they see water over a road and to seek an alternate route if possible.”
