University of North Georgia Opens Three Different Greek Life Investigations

The University of North Georgia has launched an investigation into three separate cases where students violated school alcohol and hazing policies.

Caleb Longenecker, a freshman at the University of North Georgia, told WSB-TV that the university sent out an email, saying a fraternity and two sororities are under investigation for hazing and alcohol violations.

According to reports, the school received three separate complaints that Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Mu and Kappa Delta had violated the school’s hazing and alcohol policies.

via WSB-TV:

Senior Jacob Sullivan told WSB-TV he’s not endorsing what happened, but he wonders if it’s as bad as it sounds.

“Hazing is such a broad term these days, it encompasses things you wouldn’t think of as being bad,” Sullivan said. Zhanik Brock said you can’t even enroll at North Georgia until you take and pass an online course about the school’s hazing and alcohol policy.

“It was very detailed. They asked a lot of anonymous questions like, ‘How do you feel about this? What would you do in this situation?'” Brock said.

Even though the university wouldn’t give me specifics, Huddleston did receive a call from a student who said he was a member of the fraternity and said their violation was alcohol-related. A university representative said the organizations are suspended until the investigation is complete.

This is the latest major fraternity policy change in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

NCAA Tournament Bracketology 2018: The 3rd Seeds

March Madness Basketball

Even if your favorite team is unable to obtain a highly coveted one seed, there is no shame in being the third seed as this is a numerical display that any program should be proud to show off. However, like with all of the various seeds in the March Madness Tournament, there some three seeds that have fared better recently than their similarly ranked opponents. Although both Michigan and Michigan State will likely be third seeds come Selection Sunday, the difference in competitiveness between these two programs as of now is vastly different. At this point, subjectivity comes into play as fans must decide what matters the most: overall strength of schedule or what each team as done recently to gain or lose momentum heading into the tournament. Also, you may notice some programs that were projected as fourth seeds recently are now considered a notch above those initial projections. As conference tournaments continue to play out, various programs have been able to strengthen or weaken their competitive cache based on those results.

South Region:
1. Tennessee Volunteers

For the Volunteers to be supremely successful come to the NCAA Tournament, they will need the rebounding and shooting prowess of Grant Williams (15.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG) and Admiral Schofield (13.5 PPG, 6.1 RPG) to consistently be on display in the grueling postseason event. Combine that with the Volunteers adeptness at shooting free throw shots (75.8 FT%) and this is a team that has the resilient and clutch athletes to make a serious run in the tournament.

West Region:
1. Auburn Tigers

What you have to love about the Tigers is how well their starting players have complimented each other on the court with their impressive versatility. From the do it all abilities of Mustapha Heron (16.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 1.2 SPG) to the impressive ball facilitating capabilities of Jared Harper (5.7 APG), the Tigers have all the ideal pieces to make their elite offense tick consistently. While their defense is severely lacking, the Tigers have rarely been done in by this weakness.

East Region:
1. Michigan Wolverines

Although the Wolverines will rarely hit the 80-point mark when it comes to scoring, they do enough offensively to allow their relentless defense to wear down and demoralize their opponents (63.5 PAPG). The unshakeable determination of athletes such as Moritz Wagner (14.5 PPG, 7.1 RPG) and Muhammed-Ali Abdur-Rahkman (44.1 FG%, 40 3P&) combined with the Wolverines notable depth, this is a program that has what it takes especially from an intangible perspective to be a sleeper National Title winner.

Midwest Region:
1. Michigan State Spartans

Without a doubt, Michigan State has the elite talent to win a National Title. The problem is establishing a competitive flow with these consummate athletes that, as of recently, have struggled mightily. Scoring less than 70 points in four of their last five games, the Spartans offense needs to be much more prolific as their great but not exceptional defense is not enough to carry this team when they go cold shooting from the field.

March Madness Basketball

Although there may be some individuals that consider any second-seeded teams as being a tier below the first seeds from a competitive standpoint, they could not be more wrong this season. To be frank, any of these teams have the potential to be considered the top programs in college basketball as they have the exceptional athletes and impressive wins to make a strong case for themselves to be regarded as such. Nevertheless, there are only so many teams that can be inducted into the top seeds of March Madness and as a result, some programs have to be relegated to slightly lesser yet still coveted spots as the second seeds in the tournament. When any of the following programs are playing at a high level and to their intimidating strengths, they have the potential to both make it to and win the National Title regardless of who their final opponent may be

South Region:
1. Cincinnati Bearcats

Unlike the Virginia Cavaliers, the Bearcats are capable of scoring more than 70 points per game while also having an elite defense that is physically fierce (57.3 PAPG). Although the Bearcats are not known as a three-point shooting team, Jacob Evans (40.4 3P%, 4.5 RPG) and Gary Clark (44.2 3P%, 8.2 RPG) are capable of providing both outside shooting accuracy while garnering rebounds to give their relentlessly physical teammates multiple chances to score consistently.

West Region:
1. Purdue Boilermakers

At their best, the Boilermakers are one of the most dynamically competitive teams on both offense (81.1 PPG) and defense (65.6 PAPG). With both Carsen Edwards (18.5 PPG, 41.2 3P%) and Vincent Edwards (14.5 PPG, 47.1 FG%, 39.2 3P%) being the Boilermakers deadly outside shooters, big man Issac Hayes gives his program a dominant inside presence as he can effectively score in the paint (62.1 FG%) while using his immense size to garner rebounds off of the glass (5.6 RPG).

East Region:
1. North Carolina Tar Heels

Arguably the best all-around offensive program in college basketball (82.8 PPG, 42.9 RPG, 18.2 RPG), the Tar Heels will only be victimized in the NCAA Tournament if their porous defense becomes a serious liability (73.3 PAPG). If the Tar Heels can be just slightly better when it comes to taking perimeter shots (36.5 3P%) they may be able to score enough points to overcome a defense that lacks physicality and intimidation.

Midwest Region:
1. Xavier Musketeers

Similar to the Tar Heels, the Musketeers have a dynamically dominant offense that is at times held back by an atrocious defense particularly down the stretch of competitive contests (74.5 PAPG). However, it’s difficult to argue with the Musketeers supreme accuracy when it comes to shooting from the field (49.5 FG%) and from the free throw line (78.6 FT%). If the Musketeers can be a bit more disciplined when it comes to taking care of the basketball (13 RPG), they have everything else on offense needed to outshoot anyone they may face in the tournament.

Sigma Phi Epsilon At The University of Missouri Under Investigation For Assault

Two freshmen students at the University of Missouri have sued the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity for an alleged assault by two of the fraternity’s members. The students also sued two members of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

According to reports, the plaintiffs in the suit, Sean Freihaut and Benjamin Poss, both of St. Louis, accuse the Sigma Phi Epsilon and the University of Missouri chapter did “little” to stop active members “from breaking rules regarding alcohol, drugs, and hazing.”

The lawsuit specifically mentions an alleged assault outside the fraternity house on September 22, claiming the national headquarters did not punish the chapter earlier.

via ABC 17:

The lawsuit details an alleged assault on the two freshmen by Nikolas Childress and Zachary Barabasz. Around 1:45 a.m., Childress and Barabasz rushed from the porch of the fraternity house and chased the two freshmen, who were walking nearby. The two eventually caught up to Freihaut and Poss near South Hall, where the new fraternity members “attacked, punched, kicked and/or struck” the victims, according to the lawsuit. One of the victims, the lawsuit claims, suffered a traumatic brain injury and “hardware used in the surgical reconstruction” of his face and jaw “is permanent.”

A probable cause statement from the University of Missouri Police Department said a security camera at South Hall captured Barabasz hitting one of the victims. Boone County prosecutors charged both men with third-degree assault, a felony, on Oct. 17. William Tackett, the attorney for both men in the criminal matter, declined to comment on their pending cases.

The university hired consulting firm Dyad Strategies, who recommended many changes to the university’s Greek Life policies, including a ban on freshmen living in fraternity houses.

This is the latest major fraternity violation in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

Kristen Wiig Officially Cast In Wonder Woman Sequel

After days of rumors and speculation, Wonder Woman 2 director Patty Jenkins confirmed on Twitter that actress Kristen Wiig had been cast in the sequel to the smash hit of summer 2017. Wonder Woman. It had been speculated for the past week or so that Wiig may make the jump into the superhero genre and today it was announced that she will portray the villainous Cheetah in the Wonder Woman sequel.

Wiig, of course, has long been known for her comedic talents, having been a cast member of Saturday Night Live for many years. She also made the very well received comedy Bridesmaids and has seen great success since then as well.

On March 9th, Jenkins took to Twitter and announced the casting, saying:

This will undoubtedly be a new turn for Wiig, but it is an interesting one. Wonder Woman was an outstanding movie that was as important to comic book fans as it was to pop culture in general. It not only confirmed that a blockbuster film led by a woman and helmed by a female director could be a success, but it also provided someone for young girls to look up to. The sequel certainly has a lot to live up to, but Gal Gadot, the star of the first film, and Jenkins reuniting definitely creates a recipe for success.

So who is the character Wiig will be playing? Let’s dive in.

Initially, an archaeologist named Dr. Barbara Minerva, she becomes the villain Cheetah when she is transformed by a priest in a strange ritual (you know, comics.) She possesses superhuman strength, durability, speed, agility, as well as the traditional characteristics of a cheetah such as claws and fangs. She can also command actual cheetahs to fight for her. She is one of Wonder Woman’s archenemies, so it will indeed be interesting to see this conflict unfold on screen and Wiig is an exciting choice for the role.

We look forward to seeing this battle for ourselves when Wonder Woman 2 is released on November 1st, 2019.

NCAA Tournament Bracketology 2018: The 1st Seeds

March Madness Basketball

Shutterstock

If your team is ultimately considered one of the top seeds for the NCAA Tournament, you have to feel initially overjoyed that your program has the elite clout and has performed at a high level consistently this season. However, once March Madness commences, that numerical classification goes out the window as any team in this tournament (outside of the 16th seeds) has a chance at dethroning any number one seed especially this season. Still, these programs have every right to be considered the clear favorites to win it all when you consider their victories over top-tier opponents while avoiding a lengthy lapse in competitiveness at any point during the regular season. While all of the following programs have the noticeable weaknesses that could do them in if they are not careful, they also have a multitude of strengths that could serve them well when it comes to pursuing and obtaining the ultimate prize: a National Title.

South Region:
1. Virginia Cavaliers

Likely the overall number one seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Cavaliers sustained only two losses this season thanks to an elite defense that is fantastic at preventing their opponents from taking easy shots from anywhere on the court (52.9 PAPG). However, their anemic offense (67.5 PPG) and inability to rebound consistently could be an issue for this well-coached program if they face a team that is tenacious when it comes to forcing steals in the tournament.

West Region:
1. Kansas Jayhawks

When talking about programs that play unselfish basketball, it’s difficult not to bring up the Jayhawks as the team that is at the top of that list. One of the best teams in the country at moving the ball to their open shooters (17 APG), the Jayhawks are especially deadly when their offense gets into a comfortable rhythm as they are adept at shooting the basketball from anywhere on the court (49.6 FG%, 39.8 3P%). The only thing that could hold the Jayhawks back from winning a National Title is their poor free shooting capabilities, something that has prevented them from being truly great this season (69.9 FT%).

East Region:
1. Villanova Wildcats

For an average defense that has to contend with the Wildcats in the tournament, watch out. Shooting over 50% from the field and just under 40% from three-point range, the Wildcats are highly effective when it comes to finding and taking high-percentage shots as they possess the quick and cerebral athletes that are adept at locating their teammates consistently (17 APG). On top of that, the Wildcats are one of the better teams in college basketball when it comes to ball security, an attribute that will be vital to their success in the tournament.

Midwest Region:
1. Duke Blue Devils

Ranked top eight or better when it comes to scoring (85.2 PPG), rebounding (41.9 RPG) and passing the basketball (17.7 APG), the Duke Blue Devils are an elite offensive program that has now come full circle from a competitive standpoint thanks to a burgeoning defense. With all five of their starters averaging double-digit points per game, the sky is the limit for this Blue Devil program that clearly has all of the pieces and coaching to win it all in the NCAA Tournament.

Step Aside Stranger Things, The Obamas May Be Coming To Netflix

Stranger Things, IcarusA Futile and Stupid Gesture, and now, The Obamas?Barack Obama and Michelle Obama may be hopping on the Netflix train too.

According to The New York Times, the former president and first lady are in advanced negotiations with Netflix to produce a series of high-profile shows for the streaming company. The deal would provide the high profile couple with an unfiltered connection to Netflix’s 118 million subscribers around the world. This is something that the Obamas have already shown a great interest in with their strong use and presence on social media – the duo has a combined 111 million Twitter followers and 36 million Instagram followers.

No details have been released yet on the format of the shows, but the NYT speculates:

In one possible show idea, Mr. Obama could moderate conversations on topics that dominated his presidency — health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, climate change — and that have continued to divide a polarized American electorate during President Trump’s time in office.

Another program could feature Mrs. Obama on topics, like nutrition, that she championed in the White House. The former president and first lady could also lend their brand — and their endorsement — to documentaries or fictional programming on Netflix that align with their beliefs and values.

After leaving the White House last year, the Obamas took some much deserved time off away from the spotlight to travel. They didn’t step aside from their public work though. They launched Obama.org on Inauguration Day, and last March signed a deal with Penguin Random House for joint memoirs. Michelle’s book, Becoming, is slated for a Nov ’18 release.

As their Netflix deals continue to progress behind closed doors, Barack did pop up recently on one of the service’s newest series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. It was the late-night alum’s first guest on the show and the former President’s first interview since leaving office. The two wasted no time in swapping stories and sharing their takes on meaningful topics.

KU’s SAE Shut Down Due To Multiple Code of Conduct Violations

Sigma Alpha Epsilon (known as SAE) at the University of Kansas has been shut down due to multiple health and safety violations. The fraternity failed to meet its national organization’s guidelines.

On Thursday, March 8, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon national organization announced that the KU  chapter would be shut down. The chapter had been at the university for 115 years at the university.

While SAE’s press release did not disclose what specifically led to the chapter’s closure, they did state that all of the current members have been suspended indefinitely. Furthermore, the KU chapter will remain closed for no less than four years, and/or until the last current members have graduated or left the university.

The SAE national headquarters released a statement:

“The loss of this group is unfortunate, but suspensions are a critical reminder that adherence to risk management policies and educational programming are crucial to Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s future. When incidents take place that fail to do so, they affect the entire organization and counteract the importance of our values,” the statement rad.

This is the fourth University of Kanas fraternity shut down since the start of 2018.

This is the latest major fraternity suspension or closure in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

Kristen Wiig has come a long way from her days as Gilly, Penelope and the Target Lady, just a few of the lovable and terrifying characters she brought to life in her seven seasons at Saturday Night Live. How far has she come exactly? Badass superhero movie far, that’s how far. With the recent confirmation that Kristen Wiig will be playing supervillain Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2, Wiig has made a pretty rare career leap, even for Hollywood.

Wiig was born Kristen Caroll Wiig on August 22, 1973 in Canandaigua, New York, though she grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Rochester, New York. Wiig attended the University of Arizona, where she majored in art before relocating to Los Angeles after graduation.

While in LA, Wiig became part of the famed improvisational comedy troupe The Groundlings, earning her first TV opportunity on the Spike TV reality-spoof Joe Schmo, playing a fake marriage counselor. In 2005, at the behest of her manager, Wiig sent in an audition tape to SNL, included on which was her Target Lady character. She would act and write for the show full-time from 2006 until 2012.

In 2011, Wiig starred in Bridesmaids, a film which she co-wrote with friend and former Groundlings performer Annie Mumolo. The film was a critical and commercial hit, earning a nomination for Best Picture Musical or Comedy at the 69th Golden Globe Awards. Wiig herself was also nominated for Best Actress – Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy at the same awards.

More recently, Wiig has starred in Mother!, directed by Darren Arnovsky, and Downsizing, a comedy co-starring Matt Damon. She is currently rumored to be working on a follow-up with Mumolo which would see Wiig make her directorial debut.

Video of a Mexican woman being arrested in front of her three daughters on a National City sidewalk in California has gone viral due to the nature in which the customs agents treated her. The video has caused outrage on social media and within the local community.

According to reports, Perla Morales-Luna, 36, was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Saturday, March 3 near 24th and D streets in National City, California. She was arrested by two men in plain clothing, who were then accompanied by a uniformed U.S. Border Patrol agent.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that Morales-Luna was arrested as part of a “targeted operation” for being in the country illegally. They also said that Luna had been arrested previously.

Alejandra Sotelo-Solis, a National City Councilmember, said she felt “sad” and “infuriated” when she saw the video.

via The Washington Post:

A video capturing the emotional scene circulated widely on Facebook Thursday and provoked anger from immigrant rights activists and community leaders. The aggressive way in which the agents detained the woman, in front of her children, underscores immigration authorities’ “violent” methods of taking people into custody, advocates say.

“The mother is essentially stripped from the arms of her children,” Pedro Rios, director of the American Friends Service Committee in San Diego, told The Washington Post. “If there weren’t uniformed agents, it would resemble a kidnapping.”

CBP officials did not respond to criticism of the way Morales-Luna was detained and did not clarify what type of smuggling she is suspected of. Morales-Luna is in Border Patrol custody awaiting transfer to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings, according to the CBP statement.

According to NBC, Luna’s three daughters are staying with an aunt while their mother was in custody.

The 36-year-old mother is currently in Border Patrol custody awaiting transfer to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.

Mario Day 2018: Top 10 Games To Help Celebrate ‘MAR10’

0
0

March 10 is Mario Day. Get it? March 10. MAR10. Get it? Well, I thought it was cute. Anyway, Mario is being celebrated throughout the world today with various promotions and whatnot, but we want to look at Mario’s past and some of the games that made him such an icon to begin with! He’s had plenty of games over the years, so there was certainly a lot to choose from!

For this list, it was important that Mario gets some major focus, although it is alright if he wasn’t technically the main character. Remember this is only my opinion, a tongue-in-cheek one at that! So, if you disagree, that’s perfectly fine. In fact, if you don’t see one of your favorite games mentioned here, please tell us in the comments!

Here’s Some Of Our Top 10 Mario Games!

Super Mario Bros.

Look, it is the original game, so we should give credit where credit is due. Unless of course, you factor in when he was “Jumpman” for those Donkey Kong games. In a formula that just keeps coming back, the game involves Mario and his brother, Luigi, saving Princess Toadstool (the primordial Princess Peach) from Bowser.

Super Mario Bros. 2

It also lets you choose between Mario, Luigi, Toad or even the princess. I like the variety. Once again, as an early game, it served as a gateway for many people into the Mario games.

 Super Mario 64

As the name implies, this was one of Nintendo 64’s launch games and one of its best-selling games. For a lot of people, it’s a gateway to Mario games. Essentially, the player has to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser while getting to explore her castle. There’s a fire realm, a ghost realm, and even an ice realm, where one of the games involves reuniting a baby penguin with its mother, complete with a fake baby penguin. Mostly, this game is fondly remembered because it let you throw the baby penguin off the cliff, even after you won the game! And they regenerate so there is no guilt! Added to that, Mario get a cake at the end!

Super Mario Kart

It’s the game that started a legacy, the Mario Go-Kart games! Google Maps even recently honored the mini-franchise for Mario Day with an app that lets you play as Mario in his kart while getting directions! In other words, when Google honors your accomplishments, you know you did good!

Super Mario World

An attempt to make an “epic adventure” for Mario, this game was praised during its initial release for its visuals and platform. Also, it introduces Yoshi, that alone

Super Mario 3D World

In many ways, this game was an homage to Super Mario Bros. 2, also letting the player choose between characters, each with the same skills as the previous game!

Super Mario Sunshine

It was just so funny to see them get mad. The plot involves Mario trying to clear his name (and the environment) after he is framed for being behind a pollution scheme at Delfino Island. You get to use a water-spraying jetpack and special juice to save the day. Yeah, I’m going with this game because it was kind of fun squirting those Piantas. It’s also nice to see Mario actually cleans things up for once; I mean, isn’t he supposed to be a plumber?

Paper Mario

It’s a nice art style and it was popular enough to inspire various spin-offs over the years, like Super Paper Mario or Paper Mario: Color Splash.

Super Princess Peach

Look, I know what you’re thinking. Technically, this isn’t a Mario game. That is technically true, but it is nice to see Peach get a story of her own. Also, Mario’s technically in the game. since Peach has to rescue him and Luigi! It’s nice to see him, after all those adventures, after all those times Peach was in yet another castle, to get a break for once, as much as being held captive is considered a break. Or, at the very least, that his girlfriend has his back as much as he does hers.

Super Mario Odyssey

Giving Peach her time in the sun is one thing, but making Mario’s hat the star of the show is just a whole different playing field! Technically, Cappy is merely a spirit possessing Mario’s hat, but his role means you get to play as a fireball, a dinosaur and more, all with Mario’s iconic mustache. One of the more recent games, let’s just say we hope Cappy is a character that will stay awhile!

Clemson vs. Virginia Live Stream: How to Watch ACC Tournament Online

0
0

With conference tournament play underway in NCAA basketball, there is a game between two top 25 teams in the ACC. These teams are the Clemson Tigers and the Virginia Cavaliers. According to the AP poll, the Tigers are currently ranked the 19th best team in the country which is extremely impressive considering their preseason expectations. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are ranked the number one team in the country which shows just how elite this unit is. This season, the Cavaliers defended their home court successfully against the Tigers and won by double digits. Now, Clemson will be seeking revenge on a neutral site and will be looking for a huge upset victory to boost its resume for March. Expect this game to be extremely competitive throughout as a result.

Virginia’s success is due to its team defense. Every year, Virginia is one of the best defensive teams in the country under coach Tony Bennett. This season is no different as the Cavaliers officially have the best scoring defense in all of college basketball. Virginia is allowing 52.9 points per game this season and will look to shut down Clemson’s offense. Leading the Cavaliers offensively is guard Kyle Guy. This season, Guy is averaging 14.0 points per game and is shooting 39.2% from the three point line. If Virginia plans on winning this contest, Guy will need to have a big game from behind the arc.

Clemson’s success is due to its balanced offense. This season, Clemson has five separate players who are averaging over ten points per game. Three of these players are guards while the other two are forwards. This balance allows the Tigers to defeat teams in a variety of ways. They can either use their physicality to wear you down or their elite shooting from the outside. Expect Clemson to use its balanced attack on Friday to keep Virginia’s defense off-guard.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Virginia. Although I think that Clemson is a quality team, Virginia is on another level. Words cannot describe how ridiculous its defense is and I expect the Cavaliers to put on another defensive clinic tonight. In the only meeting this season, Virginia held Clemson to 36 points. There is no reason for me to think that Clemson will suddenly be able to outscore Virginia as a result.

Yoselyn Ortega: Full Story & Must-See Details Of Nanny

The trial of a New York nanny accused in the stabbing deaths of two children in her care has revealed, through hand-written notes, amounting resentment towards the children’s mother in the weeks leading up to the brutal murder, the New York Post reports.

Yoselyn Ortega, 55, is accused of murdering siblings Leo Krim, 2, and Lucia Krim, 6, in October 2012 when she worked for their mother, Marina Krim, as a babysitter. According to hand-written notes dictated from Ortega to NYPD Sgt. Yoel Hidalgo in the days just following the murder, Ortega had grown increasingly frustrated with Marina Krim over an inconsistent schedule and additional responsibilities over her two years of employment.

“I had to do everything and take care of the kids,” Ortega told Hidalgo in that first conversation with police, communicating via alphabet board while hooked up to a breathing tube. Ortega is accused of waiting until the children’s mother returned home before stabbing herself in the neck, intending, according to the prosecution, to assure that she could witness Marina Krim’s reaction to the aftermath of the killings.

“I worked as babysitter only and she wanted me to do everything,” the note goes on to read. “She wanted 5 hours of cleaning every week.”

Ortega claimed at the time that she did not like cleaning, “because of soap,” pointing to a bleach burn on her pinky when discussing it with Hidalgo. According to her statement in court last week, Krim claims to have paid Ortega $100 a week for cleaning, as well as purchasing all natural cleaning products after seeing the burns to Ortega’s pinky in the days leading up to the killings.

Ortega has pleaded not guilty, claiming insanity and, more specifically, that she was “touched by the devil” in the weeks leading up to the murders and her own attempted suicide. According to Dr. Thomas Caffrey, the therapist who met with Ortega for the first time only three days before the killings, there were no present signs of tactile or visual hallucinations when the two spoke. Instead, McCaffrey claims Ortega wanted to speak about feelings of anxiety, depression, and guilt.

“Her concerns seemed to be about her heart, her anxiety, her son, her sister, her money,” McCaffrey told the Manhattan Supreme Court, according to the New York Post. “She impressed me as a worried, anxious, frightened person.”

The sight of the Krims’ Upper West Side apartment was enough to bring multiple jurors to tears, according to the Daily Mail. The jurors were shown photos of the two knives used in the murders, as well as photos of the blood-stained bathtub where the children’s bodies were found.

If convicted, Ortega could receive a minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life without parole. If found non-guilty by way of insanity, she could still spend the rest of her life in a mental institution.

Kansas vs. Kansas State Live Stream: How to Watch Big 12 Tournament Online

With conference tournament play underway in NCAA basketball, there is a game between two in-state rivals from the Big 12. These teams are the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas State Wildcats. So far this season, Kansas has won both meetings but do not expect Kansas State to lay it all on the line during Friday’s contest. Although both teams will most likely be in the NCAA Tournament this season, both teams need to win this game to improve their seeds for the tournament. Expect this game to be extremely competitive as a result.

Kansas’s success is due to its extremely talented backcourt. Guards Devonte’ Graham and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk have been the leaders of this year’s team and also have boasted impressive stats thus far in the regular season. Graham is currently averaging 17.3 points per game along with 4.0 rebounds and 7.3 assists. Mykhailiuk is averaging 15.2 points per game along with 4.2 rebounds per game. Both of them know what it takes to win these conference tournament games. Expect Graham and Mykhailiuk to play well on Friday night.

Kansas State’s success is due to its balanced offense. This season, Kansas State has three separate players who are averaging over 11 points per game. Two of these players are forwards while the other one is a guard. This balance allows the Wildcats to defeat teams in a variety of ways. They can either use their physicality to wear you down or their elite shooting from the outside. Expect Kansas State to use their balanced attack on Friday to keep the Jayhawks’ defense off-guard.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Kansas. There is a reason why Kansas is currently ranked in the top ten while Kansas State is not. Kansas has tremendous depth at the guard positions and I expect players like Vick and Newman to take the pressure off of Graham and Mykhailiuk.  I Expect Kansas’ fast paced offensive scheme to overwhelm the Wildcats as it leads the Jayhawks to the conference tournament finals.

David Swinyar: Full Story & Must-See Details

A Florida teacher, identified as David Swinyar, has been suspended after his school district concluded that he used the N-word in class, also telling them not to date African Americans, saying that were not “worth it,” among other violations. According to school officials, these incidents appeared to have happened in separate cases across the months.

What happened?

It was in late October that a student told a school board investigator what Swinyar had discussed with his students.

According to CNN, Swinyar reportedly told the following to students:

“If your boyfriend says bad things to you and/or treats you wrong, that means he’s acting like a n—–.”

“You all should not be dating all these different African-American boys because they are not worth it.”

Reportedly, Swinyar used similar language during a separate incident in August 2017. He was quoted as saying:

“If my daughter was dating someone who used the ‘f’ word, I wouldn’t have any respect for that n—–.”

Allegedly, a student had told a school counselor that if his daughter was in a relationship and “that ‘n’ said the ‘f’ word, I would beat him up.”

Who is David Swinyar?

Swinyar, who says he is white in his personnel file, teaches math at Kernan Middle School in Jacksonville, where over 20% of the students are African American. According to reports, he worked in the school district since 2012.

Swinyar reportedly said he attended an African-American church, and students said he made fun of the preacher’s preaching style. According to the school’s report, it was also found that Swinyar used “inappropriate” terms when talking to his students, such as calling them “dumb” on occasion.

The school has since disciplined Swinyar with a 10-day unpaid suspension for the behaviors found in the investigation. WFOX-WJAX reports Swinyar will also get a letter of reprimand and a mandatory referral to the Employee Assistance Program. Duval County Schools Superintendent Patricia Willis also described what will happen to Swinyar more in-depth:

“Following the employee’s suspension without pay, he will be reassigned to an appropriate district position with no contact with students for the remainder of the year. As an annual contract employee, Mr. Swinyar’s employment contract with the district expires June 30, 2018. In May, recommendations for contract renewals for all annual employees will be considered.”

Duke vs. North Carolina Live Stream: How To Watch ACC Tournament Online

With conference tournament play underway in NCAA basketball, there is a game between two elite opponents. These teams are the Duke Blue Devils and the North Carolina Tar Heels. According to the AP poll, both teams are ranked in the top 12 which should result in an extremely competitive basketball game. This season, these teams have split both meetings between them and now each team will be looking to win the season series. Expect this game to be extremely competitive as a result.

Duke’s success is due to its star forward Marvin Bagley III. This season, Bagley is averaging 21.2 points per game along with 11.4 rebounds. Bagley has looked like one of the best players in the country this season and is a serious contender to win the Naismith College Player of the Year Award. Entering this season, Bagley was expected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NBA Draft and that will likely come true if he goes pro after the season. Expect Bagley to have a big game on Friday if Duke plans on winning this contest.

North Carolina’s success is due to its veteran backcourt. Guards Joel Berry, Cameron Johnson and Kenny Williams have been the leaders of this year’s team and also have boasted impressive stats thus far in the regular season. Berry is currently averaging 17.3 points per game along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists. Johnson is averaging 13.2 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds per game. Williams is averaging 11.4 points per game along with 3.7 rebounds per game. Both Berry and Williams were on the championship team last season as well as the second place team from two seasons ago. As a result, these guards are the veteran leaders on this team and will look to lead the Tar Heels to a huge conference tournament victory on Friday against the school’s biggest rival.

As for my prediction, I have to side with North Carolina. Although I think that Duke is the more talented team, North Carolina has faced better opponents thus far in the conference tournament which I think will pay major dividends in this matchup. The game should be determined with the battle of the boards since both teams are in top three rebounding teams in college basketball. I think that the Tar Heels will win the rebounding battle and will win this game as a result.

HBO’s ‘Andre the Giant’ Documentary Is Going To Be Absolutely Fascinating

HBO

For many youngins like you and I, Andre the Giant is merely a myth.

I was born on March 5, 1993 (feel free and take a moment to wish me a Happy Birthday …….. thank you), meaning Andre the Giant died about 6 weeks before I was born, so by the time I did finally grace this Earth, he was no longer a man, but already a memory.

And because of that — despite his truly legendary (a word that is used far too often, yet certainly applies here) status — I never took the time to look into him, his career, and his life. But, luckily, that’s why we have HBO: they do the research for us and turn it into a highly entertaining, easily consumable documentary.

The second of two trailers for the upcoming documentary, the latest look at Andre the Giant really gives you the sense that it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster filled with appearances from all different sorts of characters.

And we can’t wait.

The official synopsis for Andre The Giant, via HBO:

Comedians, actors and wrestlers alike remember Andre The Giant. HBO Sports, WWE, JMH Films and Ringer Films present Andre The Giant, a documentary examining the life and career of one of the most beloved figures in wrestling history.

Andre the Giant premieres on HBO on Sunday, April 10.
