A lockdown is in effect at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville after reports of shots fired and a hostage situation. A SWAT team has been called to the location according to CalVet. At around 10:20 A.M. (pacific time), reports first came in regarding the shooting/hostage crisis. As many as 15 or 20 bullets were fired near Building G of the Veterans Home, according to current reports. The armed gunman may be a veteran and has reportedly taken up to three hostages. ATF agents and a SWAT team are responding to the scene. So far, there are no reports of injuries. But the suspect reportedly opened fire at responding officers. A standoff between the gunman and law enforcement continues.

Update (3/9/2018; 10:00 P.M. EST): Shortly before 6 P.M., authorities entered the veterans home and discovered the bodies of the gunman and three female deceased hostages, according to reports. The gunman and the hostages were reportedly all dead before authorities entered the building. It is suspected that the incident at the Veterans Home of California has turned into a triple murder-suicide. The Napa County Sheriff’s Department has identified the gunman, but have not released his name to the public. The three victims have been identified by the California Highway Patrol, who describes them as employees of a non-profit organization that specializes in working with veterans.

What Happened?

On Friday, there was reports on an active shooter incident at The Veterans Home of California, which resulted in a lockdown of the facility. According to an e-mail from Department of Veterans Affairs spokesman Johsua Kiser: “Law enforcement authorities have responded to the Yountville Veterans Home this morning following reports of gunfire near the main dining hall. The facility is on lockdown, and all residents and staff are sheltering in place. We will continue to update you as we get more information.”

Kiser spoke with the LA Times and informed them that the Veterans Home is on lockdown; the shades are drawn, the doors are locked, and everyone is on alert. According to the Napa Valley Register, the standoff between law enforcement and the shooter is at the Pathway’s Madison Building on the Veterans Home grounds. However, conflicting reports suggest that that standoff was at Building G, which houses veterans of Desert Storm.

Some reports suggest that as many as three hostages were taken. According to NBC Bay Area, early reports indicated that three hostages were taken and one shot was fired, but no injuries were reported. However, KRON4 reported many more shots were fired (30 to be exact) outside the main dining hall, but they weren’t sure whether or not these were live rounds. But now, new reports are suggesting that between 15 and 20 shots were fired before three people were taken hostage according to KTVU.

As of this writing, the identity of the shooter is unknown. But Napa Valley Register reported that the gunman may be dressed in black, wearing body armor, and carrying an automatic weapon. One person on Twitter reported that her father is at Yountville, and that a resident told her that the gunman may be a veteran with PSTD. However, this report has not been confirmed.

According to the Napa Valley Register, the gunman may be a member of the Pathway Home program for military veterans with emotional trauma. Early reports suggested that the suspect is 36 and had been discharged from the program two weeks priors.

The Veterans Home of California is located at 260 California Dr, Yountville, CA. It is one of the largest veterans home in the nation. It provides shelter to 1,100 men and women of every age, from World War II era to present times. This Veterans Home was first established in 1884, creating a 600-acre campus.

Bruno Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985, to parents Peter and Bernadette. Mars first began performing on stage at the age of three, joining his uncle who worked as an Elvis Presley impersonator. Mars was dropped from Motown less than a year after signing with them, and, after a period of stagnation, signed a music publishing deal with Jeff Lindsey at Westside Independent. The album was an immediate success, propelled by number one single “Just The Way You Are,” as well as lesser hit singles “Grenade,” and “The Lazy Song.” For those records, Mars was nominated for six Grammy’s in 2011, winning one for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and was nominated for another six Grammy’s in 2012, losing in all six categories.

In 2012, he released his second album, Unorthodox Jukebox, an album largely produced by himself and his co-producers in The Smeezingtons. It was his first record to reach number one on the Billboard 100, while lead single “Locked Out of Heaven,” became his biggest hit to that point and helped earn Mars a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album.

2014 saw Bruno Mars headline the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time, setting what was at the time a record for halftime show viewership with 115.3 million viewers. Later that year, Mars would feature on a track with producer and songwriter Mark Ronson. The product of the collaboration, “Uptown Funk,” was an immediate hit, going number one in the US and winning the Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and for Record of the Year. With conference tournament play underway in NCAA basketball, there is a game between two ranked opponents in the Big 12. These teams are the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. According to the AP poll, both teams are ranked in the top 20 which should result in an extremely competitive basketball game. This season, both teams have split the two meetings between them. Expect this game to be no different and for it to be extremely competitive throughout.

West Virginia’s success is due to its extremely talented backcourt. Guards like Jevon Carter, James Bolden and Lamont West all decided to return this season which gives West Virginia one of the best backcourts in all of college basketball. Carter is currently averaging 17.0 points per game along with 4.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists. Bolden is averaging 9.2 points per game along with 2.0 rebounds per game in  18 minutes per game. West is averaging 10.1 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds. All three of them know what it takes to win these conference tournament games so one can expect them all to play well on Friday.

Texas Tech’s success is due to its elite defense. This season, Texas Tech is allowing 64.7 points per game which is the 18th fewest in all of college basketball this season. The Red Raiders also average the 35th most steals per game with 7.5 and use constant pressure to keep their opponents off-guard.   This combo gives the Red Raiders one of the best defenses in all of college basketball which should be able to limit West Virginia’s offense on Friday.

As for my prediction, I have to side with West Virginia. The Mountaineers are the better and more experienced team and are in better form than the Red Raiders at this point in time. West Virginia beat Texas Tech by double digits less than two weeks ago and I expect West Virginia’s veteran guards to play well as the Mountaineers sneak away with a victory.

Martin Shkreli just got sentenced to seven years in the big house. Damn, that gotta hurt! This pharma bro/Wu-Tang Clan foe finds himself facing down the barrel of some serious hard time for his crimes relating to security fraud. There are reports that he broke down in tears before being sentenced. “The one person to blame for me being here today is me,” said a visibly shaken Shkreli in the courtroom before he was sentenced to nearly a decade behind bars.

Shkreli is notrious for hiking up the price of Daraprim over 5,000 percent, which is a medication primarily used to treat AIDs patients. The only thing he regretted about the controversy is that he didn’t raise the price of the medication higher. “I would have raised prices higher,” said Shrekli. “That’s my duty.”

But that’s not what put Shkreli in front of a judge on Friday. His crimes related to two hedge funds and his former drug company Retrophin. He was charged with security fraud. And the judge didn’t grant him any leniency despite all the great memes and countless Lulz he has inspired.

The famed Pharma-hiker has been ordered to give away an estimated $7.4 million he reportedly made as a result of his security fraud crimes. Shkreli is also ordered to hand over a Picasso painting and a $2 million Wu-Tang Clan album.

Marty is also known to have dissed Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan in a video released by TMZ. Big mistake, Shkreli, big mistake. You should know by now by listening to their records that Wu-Tang Clan is simply ain’t nothing f*ck with.

Lesson to be learned: Do not f*ck with any of the Wu-Tang Clan…ever!

What else is to be said about Martin Shkreli? He had a promising career as a hedge fund manager. But he threw it all away after getting too sneaky and greedy. He also f*cked with Wu-Tang, which is never a good thing.

After a gunman held three people hostage at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville, considered one of the largest veterans homes in the nation, all four people were later found deceased after a lockdown and a seven-hour standoff. Police eventually identified the shooter as Albert Wong.

What happened?

The Veterans Home was put on lockdown on Friday after there were reports of an active shooter in the facility. According to the Los Angeles Times, at the time of the incident, Department of Veterans Affairs spokesman Joshua Kiser issued the following statement:

“Law enforcement authorities have responded to the Yountville Veterans Home this morning following reports of gunfire near the main dining hall. The facility is on lockdown, and all residents and staff are sheltering in place. We will continue to update you as we get more information.”

Although SWAT, FBI, and ATF all responded to the incident, attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful. After seven hours, police eventually found Wong’s body as well as the bodies of the three victims, who were all female employees of the home, later identified as Christine Loeber, Dr. Jen Golick and Dr. Jennifer Gonzalez. It is believed that Wong originally had more than three hostages but allowed some to go free.

At this time, it is unknown if the victims were chosen at random or what Wong’s specific motive was. Although SWAT, FBI, and ATF all responded to the incident, they were not able to reach him.

According to NBC News, California Governor Jerry Brown also released the following statement:

“Anne and I are deeply saddened by the horrible violence at the Yountville Veterans Home, which tragically took the lives of three people dedicated to serving our veterans. Our hearts go out to their families and loved ones and the entire community of Yountville.”

Who is Albert Wong?

Wong, who was 36 years old at the time of the incident, was a decorated Army infantryman from Sacramento, serving in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012, also earning four medals for his military career. He also had a security guard permit, a private investigator license, and firearms permits, one expired in 2017 and another expired in 2010. He was also believed to have been a patient at the veterans home that became the site of the shooting.

While unconfirmed, according to Oregon Live, Bob Golick, Jen Golick’s father-in-law, that she had ordered Wong’s removal from the Pathway program, in which he had been treated for PTSD.

Forensic examinations of the deceased are scheduled over the upcoming weeks.

New York Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. recently became the subject of controversy thanks in part to a viral video released allegedly featuring him. Circulating on social media on Friday night, Beckham could be seen lying in bed with a brown cigarette in his hand in the video, next to a young woman sitting beside him who appeared to be holding a credit card near lines of a white substance.

What happened in the video?

As seen in the above video, the man appearing to be Beckham could reportedly be heard saying, “Trying to get you to sleep with someone.” The video showed the woman turning the camera to herself with a filter, which covered most of her face. A tagline for the video also reads, “Odell Beckham Jr. is wild.”

In addition to the unidentified substance, an untouched pepperoni pizza could be seen in a box lying on the bed.

It is currently believed that the video was taken on the popular messaging app Snapchat. According to Fox News, it was not immediately clear if Beckham really was the subject of the video or when the video was taken, as the three-second video is undated.

What happens now?

According to NJ Advance Media, both the New York Giants and the NFL have said that they were aware of the video, although they did not comment further on the subject. According to ABC 7 New York, a Giants team spokesman has issued the following statement:

“We’re aware of the video, but we don’t have any comment beyond that.”

Similarly, the NFL spokesperson did not issue a statement beyond further establishing that the organization was only aware the video existed.

According to reports, Beckham’s agent has not responded to inquiries about the video.

Police in Southern California tried to stop a gunman who shot two police officers, killing one of them, who barricaded himself inside an apartment and held off a SWAT team for over 15 hours. Authorities later identified the officer who lost his life in the shooting as Gregory Casillas, also confirming that the other officer who had been shot was expected to survive.

What happened?

Police originally tried to stop the man around 9 P.M. on Friday after receiving a call about reckless driving, later refusing to pull over, leading officers on a pursuit. The man then crashed during the chase and fled into an apartment complex, where he barricaded himself inside, proceeding to shoot at the two officers.

According to Yahoo, Pomona Police Chief Michael Olivieri issued the following statement on social media:

“It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive. The second officer is in stable condition.”

Los Angeles County coroner’s Lt. Dave Smith later identified the fallen officer as Gregory Casillas; his age at the time of his death was unclear, with different reports citing either 25 or 30. The name of the other officer wasn’t immediately released. The identity of the gunman is also unknown at this time.

People are offering their condolences on social media

In light of Casillas’ death, many people have been offering their condolences to Callias on social media. Alt Secret Service, an unofficial Secret Service news blog, issued the following statement:

“#Prayers and condolences to @PomonaPD officer Gregory Casillas family, friends, and co-workers who was shot and killed last night. #LODD #ThinBlueLine”

Lt. Troy Dangerfield also issued the following:

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Officer Gregory Casillas, and the @PomonaPD. We continue to pray for the speedy recovery over the other officer injured. #SFPD ”

A security guard at the Glendale Galleria in California fired a gun Saturday afternoon trying to stop an attempted robbery of a jewelry store, instigating a lockdown of the mall. During the time of the lockdown, however, people in the area feared an active shooter was at the mall.

What happened?

Police have arrested multiple suspects, who entered the store with tools to break glass, although it is unclear at this time if they were armed.

A mall guard nearby fired one round, although nobody was reported to be injured.

Some mall visitors incorrectly thought there was an active shooter in the area due to the number of gunshots. Many eyewitnesses have since given their account of what had happened. According to Daily News, Ricardo Tabucal claimed to have heard five gunshots:

“People were crying and running. I saw people running with their children and falling on the floor. I tried to hide and then headed to the emergency exit. I was not scared because I experienced something similar when I lived in the Philippines.”

Jerick Joaquin, another mall employee, added the following:

“That was the scariest thing I’ve experienced in my life because I knew there was someone with a gun. We wanted to make sure our coworkers were safe and then we left the mall.”

It is believed that there were no injuries connected to the shooting or the mall scare.

What are officials saying about the situation?

The City of Glendale, California issued the following statements on the area’s official Twitter account:

“A report of a robbery at the Glendale Galleria. Report of a shot fired. No one hurt. Glendale Police have the situation under control no threat to the public. Additional information will be forthcoming”

“GPD reporting all is good at the Glendale Malls. Heavy police activity investigating an attempt robbery. Please avoid area until complete.”

Following the explosive first two days at the 2018 Call of Duty World League Atlanta Open; the third and final day has proven to be one to remember with an insane amount of matchups between some of the world’s best gamers. With over 160 teams and over 1,000 players starting the weekend all vying for a shot at gaming glory, the CWL Atlanta Open has winded down to the Top Eight teams where anything becomes possible.

While we wait to see who will take home the $200,000 prize pool by the end of the CWL Atlanta Open, it’ll be imperative that each of the teams competing in the Final Winners bracket to bring their all if they want to bring home the title. We’ve seen some of the top teams in the league either flourish or falter in their time here at the CWL Atlanta Open becoming one of the most nailbiting events of the season and whoever ends up on top will become one to watch when it comes down to who will be competing in the 2018 Call of Duty World Championship later this year. We got a chance to speak with Call of Duty World League director Kevin Flynn and he was delighted with the turnout for the Open saying, “we’ve got probably nearly 1,000 competitors here this weekend, which is awesome…we love seeing [it], we’ve heard the crowd cheering in the arena. It’s those moments that are really rewarding.”

Top teams like Team Kaliber, Faze Clan, and Optic Gaming have been competing hard this weekend to make sure their teams make it all the way to the end but dreams of glory have been dashed after losing their final games in the Winners Bracket. In their game against Team Kaliber, Team Envy was able to manage a win after ending the series in a tie leading to a Round 5 tiebreaker, winning the series 3-2.

We got to speak to Team Envy player, “SlasheR”, after the team’s win against Team Kaliber and he was ecstatic about getting a spot in the finals saying, “every day at practice when we get online is for the event, when you’re at the event it’s about staying calm and getting ready for the next match.” While not competing in professional Call of Duty tournaments, “SlasheR” is a recent college graduate from UC Santa Cruz where he graduated with a degree in Robotic Engineering; we spoke a little bit about how hard it was to maintain his college workload while being one of the best in the league. “I still to this day don’t know how I did it, it was pretty impossible. I had to take days where I couldn’t play the game, I had to take days where I couldn’t study…it was long days, you have to be really good at time management to pull it off,” he said when recalling his years juggling school and Call of Duty. It seems the hard work has paid off seeing as Team Envy has made it into the semifinals before losing to Rise Nation in a tie-breaking round.

The final day of competition also saw both Optic Gaming and Rise Nation sweep their first matches in the Winners Bracket, taking out Lightning Pandas and Faze Clan respectively. While playing against Luminosity Gaming in their Semifinal match, Optic Gaming (a favorite to win the entire Open) were knocked out in a bitter and sad loss in a 3-0 sweep.

Now as we enter the final stages of gameplay at this weekend’s CWL Atlanta Open, we’ve learned that the final two teams set to duke it out during the final day of the Open are Rise Nation and Luminosity Gaming. We’ve watched all weekend as these eight teams have fought long and hard for a shot at the $200,000 and become the winners of the 2018 CWL Atlanta Open and soon enough we will have our winner.
