Rep. Louise Slaughter, who had served in Congress since 1987, died on Friday at George Washington University Hospital. Slaughter had been hospitalized and treated for a concussion after falling at her home in Washington D.C.

The Democrat who was the representative of NY’s 25th district was 88 years old. Slaughter served the Rochester area for 15 terms and was the oldest sitting member of Congress.

A microbiologist with a master’s in public health, she was born in Kentucky and received her undergraduate and master’s degree at the University of Kentucky. Slaughter moved to New York in the ’50s, where she became increasingly concerned with local political and community issues.

In the ’70s, Slaughter decided to run for the Monroe County Legislature, winning on her third try. For the next decade, she moved from the county legislature to a regional coordinator of the Rochester area, then the New York State Assembly.

After four years in the state assembly, Slaughter ran for the Democratic nomination in New York’s 30th congressional district (now the 25th district). In 1986, she defeated the Republican incumbent by 1 point and became the first Democrat to represent the 30th District since 1910. She also became the first woman to represent Western New York.

Slaughter would hold the seat for over 30 years until her passing on Friday.

via The Washington Post

“She’s sort of a combination of Southern charm and back-room politics, a Southern belle with a cigar in her mouth,” Jane Danowitz, executive director of the Women’s Campaign Fund, told The Post in 1992.

Her hospitalization, she joked to the New York Times, had even given her an idea for a new campaign slogan: “Vote Louise. She has a leg up.”

Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Ninja Worth

Tyler Blevins aka “Ninja” is a Twitch streamer and is currently one of the more popular video game players in the world. He has amassed a massive following on Twitch, now sitting at over 140,000 subscribers to this channel, the most of any streamer on the platform. Twitch subscriptions cost $5 a month, split between the service and the streamer, and according to Polygon, he currently makes at least $560,000 per month from that service. People tune in to watch him play the latest games, most notably Fortnite which has taken over the game space in 2017-2018. He became even more well known in March of 2018 when he played Fortnite with Hip-Hop superstars Drake and Travis Scott, as well as Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ju-Ju Smith-Schuster. Just from this stream alone, he gained over 10-15,000 subscribers, increasing his monthly revenue. So, with all that let’s take a look at his career, starting with his net worth!

Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins Net Worth: $3.5 Million

Since Ninja’s stream with Drake, his subscriber list has skyrocketed to over 140,000, earning him somewhere around $560,000 every single month. Yes, you read that right. Blevins makes over half a million dollars a month for people to watch him play video games. His streaming channel provides a massive platform for companies to market their product and they pay Twitch and Blevins money for that ad time. Between his Twitch following and his YouTube subscribers being over 4.5 million, this has enabled him to accumulate a net worth of around $3.5 million.

The Early Years

Instagram Photo

Blevins was born on June, 5th, 1991 and he hails from Lake Villa, Illinois. Blevins started his professional video game career playing the legendary Xbox series Halo. In what has now become known as “e-sports,” Blevins competed in tournaments as his career, earning money through his winnings. He got his start at a Major League Gaming event in Orlando in 2009, playing as a member of the competitive Halo team “Four of a Kind.” His career as a professional gamer began to thrive with the release of Halo: Reach where he would enter the top World rankings, consistently placing in the top 13-15 of players around the world.

In 2011, Blevins began streaming his gaming and has made at least $100 per day, thanks to his channel, ever since.

His Halo career would continue, playing Halo 4, Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 5 competitively. Over that time, he would play with different teams including “The Agency,” “Cloud 9” and “Noble Black.”

2016-Present

Instagram Photo

2016 is where Blevins’ competitive career began to wind down. He continued to play Halo in tournaments into 2017 when he first started streaming his gaming on Twitch, and it immediately caught on. He went from 10,000 subscribers in December to 18,000 in January and 60,000 by late February. Due to his game with Drake, Travis Scott, and Smith-Schuster, his following skyrocketed to where it is now, to over 140,000 subscribers.

In addition to his already impressive Twitch following, he also has over 4.6 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, further increasing his revenue.

Greta Gerwig Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Gerwig Worth?

$
0
0

Actress Greta Gerwig’s 2017 film Lady Bird may have been her directorial debut, but it’s unarguably one of the best films of the year. Garnering near-perfect scores on review sites such as Rotten Tomatoes and universally lauded by critics the drama-comedy starring Laurie Metcalf and Saorsie Ronan made Gerwig a household name almost overnight. And while Lady Bird failed to win any awards at this year’s Oscars, the film still received an impressive set of nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. This made Gerwig only the fifth female director to ever be nominated for the latter award.

Greta Gerwig’s Networth as of 2018: $4 million

Despite her recent achievements, Gerwig’s current net worth is only a modest $4 million. But if she keeps up her career trajectory this is sure to change in the very near future. This seems especially likely with her recent promise of multiple films similar to Lady Bird, if not actual sequels.

But where will Gerwig’s acting career go? And what exactly were her past roles anyways? To answer this, let’s take a look back at Gerwig’s career leading up to Lady Bird.

2006-2010

Instagram Photo
Gerwig began her acting career when she was still a college student, getting a minor role in the 2006 movie Lol while enrolled at Barnard College. While she had been primarily an English and philosophy student, her initial acting experience piqued her interest in acting and screenwriting, especially in the ‘mumblecore’ genre, and she struck up a working relationship with Lol’s director Joe Swanberg. The duo co-wrote and acted in mumblecore films Hannah Takes the Stairs (2006) and Nights and Weekends (2008).

Though Gerwig soon became a fixture in the mumblecore genre, mainstream success and recognition eluded her grasp. She still had to work multiple jobs to make ends meet, including being a nanny and waitress. This changed in 2010 when she got a role in Noah Baumbach’s Greenberg, which led to a steady upwards trajectory in Gerwig’s career.

2011-2016

Instagram Photo
While still not exactly mainstream, Gertwig began receiving critical attention for minor roles films such as  To Rome with Love (2012) and The Humbling (2014). She received her first award nomination, a Golden Globe, for the 2012 film Frances Ha, which she co-wrote and starred in. Gerwig’s next critical success came with a supporting role in 20th Century Women (2016), receiving yet another nomination in the form of a Critics Choice Award.

Lady Bird (2017) and present

Gertwig’s next project, to the surprise and delight of her fans, was writing and directing Lady Bird.  The film’s premise is a coming-of-age tale for a teenage girl, the titular Lady Bird (Saorsie Ronan), and focuses largely on platonic and mother-daughter relationships.

The film has gained positive reviews for nearly everything, from the writing to the score and cinematography. Gerwig’s take on the classic ‘coming of age’ story has both revitalized the concept and given hope to many that the film is a precursor to a new wave of female-directed and focused media.

While Greta Gertwig has yet to win any of the many mainstream awards she has been nominated for, it’s really only a matter of time. Her directorial and acting career is one of the brightest and most promising in Hollywood, and will no doubt have the net worth to match in the near future.

A Lousiana grand jury has indicted four people on charges in relation to the death of Maxwell Raymond Gruver, an 18-year-old student at LSU who died on September 14, 2017.

According to reports, Sean-Paul Gott, 21, Ryan Isto, 19, and Patrick Forde, 21, were indicted on a misdemeanor charge of hazing. The misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to a maximum of 30 days in jail. A fourth student, Matthew Alexander Naquin, was indicted on a felony negligent homicide charge. That charge is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Gruver, an 18-year-old LSU freshman from Roswell, Georgia, died on Thursday, September 14, after he was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital to be treated for an unspecified “medical emergency.” An autopsy is planned for Friday, September 15.

via Click2Houston:

Witnesses said that Naquin singled out Gruver during a hazing ritual involving 18 to 20 pledges and forced him to drink more than other pledges on the night before his death, according to a police report.

Naquin targeted Gruver because he was frequently late for events and forced him to drink because he was having trouble reciting the Greek alphabet during “Bible Study,” a ritual testing their fraternity knowledge, witnesses told police.

One pledge said Gruver was made to take at least 10-12 “pulls” of 190-proof Diesel, while other pledges had to drink less of the hard liquor, according to the police report. A second fraternity member said he told Naquin and another member to “cut it out” because it was “getting out of hand,” and a third member said he warned Naquin and the other member to “slow it down” several times, to no avail.

Police originally arrested 10 people only pressed charges against five of them.

An autopsy found that Gruver’s blood-alcohol content was more than six times the legal limit for driving.

Dramatic video showing a ski-lift malfunction in the country of Georgia has gone viral.

According to authorities, at least 10 people were injured when the ski lift at the Gudauri resort began running at high speed, in reverse.

Georgia’s state-owned Mountain Resorts Development Company told CNN that ski patrol and three ambulance crew members were deployed to the scene and that the injured skiiers were taken to the health clinic at the resort.

Additionally, Mountain Resorts Development Company said that they contacted the Doppelmayr Garaventa group, the ski lift manufacturer, to investigate the cause of the incident.

via CNN:

Some skiiers told CNN they had to jump off of the out-of-control lift to avoid being crushed at the bottom of the hill. Yuri Leontyev, 32, from Belarus, was on the ski lift with two friends when the incident occurred. He filmed people being thrown off of the chairs, landing in the snow.

“The ski lift stopped and started going in reverse,” he told CNN. “We had to jump from it, because at the bottom (of the hill) it was total trash and no chance to stay safe. The movement of the lift stopped and a minute later we drove back,” she told CNN. “The speed increased, it was out of control. The lift could not be stopped. People began to jump from different altitudes, panic began. Many did not manage to jump off and were thrown out from the impact.”

“According to initial information, Sadzele ski lift in Gudauri stopped working, chairs crashed into each other with riders suspended in the air, causing health injury of medium gravity,” the company said in a statement. “As a result, according to preliminary data, 10 people were injured.”

According to reports, one of the injured was pregnant.

Apple March 27 Event: Details To Know

Apple recently announced that they will be promoting an education-themed event towards the end of the month and it’s got a lot of people buzzing. A lot of what is going to happen is being kept under wraps, but there have already been rumors about new devices Apple is expected to release this year and some people think that they may have already found some clues as to what is really going on.

First things first, we have everything you need to know about attending the event, but make sure to comment and vote on what item you think might be released; you can even add your own choices!

Apple March 27 Event Details

Date: March 27, 2018
Time: 10:00 A.M. CT
Location: Lane Tech College Prep High School

What do we know about the event so far?

Instagram Photo

The event will take place on March 27, 2018, at Lane Tech College Prep High Schoo, a high school in Chicago. With the keynote starting at 10:00 A.M. CT, according to Mac Rumors, the whole event will have a focus on “creative new ideas for teachers and students.”

One invitation that has gone out includes a stylized drawing of the Apple logo, which is, of course, an apple, drawn resembling calligraphy. The invitation also includes the phrase, “Let’s take a field trip,” which is likely both a pun on the fact that this is not taking place on an official Apple building and the fact it takes place at a high school; after all, you don’t take field trips at work, do you?

At this point, however, a lot of what will happen is under speculation.

People are guessing what devices are going to be unveiled at the event!

Instagram Photo

Remember how I placed a lot of attention on the invitation? Well, a lot of people are taking it as a hint that Apple is planning on releasing an updated version of the Apple Pencil.

That said, there have been plenty of devices that people have been talking about before the event was even announced, so this event could be the perfect opportunity to give them a platform! According to The Verge, people also speculate that the event’s high school setting is also meant to help give people a hint; one such speculated item was an entry-level 9.7-inch iPad priced around $259, which reportedly could function as a classroom device.

Of course, taking place at a high school might not have a deeper meaning. According to both DigiTimes and  KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a statement with The Verge, there might also be plans to release a follow-up to the MacBook Air.  Mac Rumors also suggested that an AirPower charging mat and a second-generation iPhone SE could be in the works, although mentioned the latter was not expected to be released as early as 2018.

Then again, many of these new products are rumored to be cheaper than their predecessors. The whole point might be releasing items that a high school student could believably afford (or, more realistically, convince their parents and/or guardians to purchase for them.)

What do you think is going to be released?

Stormy Daniels Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Stormy Worth?

$

0

Stormy Daniels has been all up in the news since January when The Wall Street Journal reported that she was paid hush money to deny she had an affair with Donald Trump in 2006. She’s been making her runs through the media circuit and has recently agreed to a 60 minutes interview set for March 25.

She’s an adult film actress, stripper, screenwriter, director, and more recently, a political figure. Diversity is KEY on resumes and Stormy’s got it all.

Stormy Daniels Net Worth As Of 2018: $2 Million

She’s one of the most well-known adult actresses in the US and the oval office. As the great southern troubadour, Young Jeezy, says, “Scared money don’t make money.” Well, scared money don’t hush money either. Stormy knows the deal.

Early Life

Instagram Photo

Stormy was born as Stephanie Gregory Clifford in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was raised by her mother, and has said of her childhood that she “came from an average, lower-income household…there [were] days without electricity”. Daniels began stripping at age 17 at a club in Baton Rouge, and when she was 21 she became an adult film actress with Continental Theatrical Agency. She chose her stage name, Stormy Daniels, after the daughter of Nikki Sixx (bassist of Motley Crue), Storm, and after seeing a Jack Daniel’s advertisement that read “a Southern favorite.”

2001-2007

Instagram Photo

Along with performing in adult films, Stormy also made several mainstream television and film appearances. She appears in the film The 40-Year-Old Virgin when Steve Carell watches her in the video Space Nuts: Episode 69—Unholy Union, and then tries dreaming about her. In early 2007, she appeared in Dirt on the FX Network, where she played a stripper who helps to set up a basketball player played by Rick Fox. Later in 2007, Daniels appeared in Maroon 5’s music video for their song “Wake Up Call” as a pole dancer.

2008-2015

Instagram Photo

A group of fans attempted to recruit Daniels to run against Republican Senator David Vitter in Louisiana in 2010. The recruitment process was centered around the website DraftStormy.com. She joined her own movement, declared herself as a Republican, and started campaigning. As you can imagine, reception of her candidacy was polarizing in LA. Her campaign manager’s car was blown up, although no one was in the car at the time. She announced in April 2010 that she would not be running for Senate, saying she didn’t have enough money to campaign and that the media never took her candidacy seriously.

2016-Present

Instagram Photo

The Wall Street Journal reported in January 2018 that Donald Trump’s personal lawyer paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 in hush money in October 2016, shortly before the presidential election, to deny she had an affair with Trump in 2006. Since then, the story has caught fire in the media. Stormy has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, and it’s recently been announced that 60 Minutes will air an interview with her on March 25.

Emmy Rossum Net Worth 2018: How Much Is She Worth?

Unlike her character Fiona, on Showtime’s Original Series, Shameless, Emmy Rossum is more than comfortable in regards to her financial situation. With a past that included performing in operas and indie films, let’s find out how much the New York City native is worth today!

Emmy Rossum’s Net Worth as of 2018: $12 Million

As of 2018, Emmy Rossum’s network is a notable $12 million. Though this obviously was not always the case. Here’s how she got started.

The Seven-Year-Old Opera Singer

Instagram Photo

Emmanuel “Emmy” Grey Rossum, first got her start at The Children’s Chorus of the Metropolitan Opera after the chorus director at the time, Elena Doria, heard Emmy sing “Happy Birthday.” Starting at age seven, Emmy continued on to perform in over 20 operas. However, once she became too tall to play child characters on stage, she transitioned over to television. During this time, she did what most actors starting out did– she made an appearance in an episode of Law & Order (1990). Following this, she became the title character in The Audrey Hepburn Story (2000).

Her Big Film Debut

Instagram Photo

In 2000, Emmy played as an Appalachian Orphan in the Indie Film, Songwriter. Then, playing the role of Katie Markum in Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River in 2003, Emmy made her first debut for a major studio film. She played the daughter of Sean Penn’s character, Jimmy Markum. Following this, she had a role in Roland Emmerich’s The Day After Tomorrow (2004). Finally, the role that led to Emmy’s Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress in a musical or comedy, was her portrayal as Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera (2004). Her classically trained voice impressed Webber and led to her beating out better-known actresses for the part. At 16, she was the youngest actress to ever be nominated for this award.

Shamelessly Brilliant

Instagram Photo

A role vastly different than from the one she played in The Phantom of the Opera, Emmy auditioned for the part of Fiona Gallagher in Shameless. Raw, gritty, and a notorious F-bomb dropper, Fiona is a 20-something woman living in Chicago’s south side. She works minimum-wage jobs to help raise her five siblings. Compared to the innocent Christine Daae, Fiona is not one to mess with. The series hit television in 2011 and has grown in success ever since. In 2016, Emmy negotiated for equal pay deals as her co-star William H. Macy was earning significantly more. Emmy won the deal and has since renewed her contract with the series. Look out for the ninth season of Shameless coming soon!

Green-Haired Woman Accused Of Stabbing Her Boyfriend With A Samurai Sword

A Washington state woman claims it was the dating app Tinder that led her to attack her boyfriend with a samurai sword in the early morning hours of March 3rd, according to The Oregonian. Her boyfriend claims it was skills developed as a professional gamer and lover of Kung Fu movies that helped him survive the brutal attack.

Following her discovery of the app, as well as red hairs in their shower drain and suspicious scratches on her boyfriend’s back, Emily Javier, 30, repeatedly slashed Alex Lovell with a sword while he slept, leaving him with life-threatening injuries while nearly cutting off three of his fingers. Lovell, 29, better known in the professional gaming community as ‘Biggie,’ claims he never cheated on his girlfriend of two years, but that his increased devotion to gaming in recent months, particularly the game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, had left him physically exhausted and incapable of showing Javier the ‘affection’ she deserved.

Javier told police that she had purchased the sword at the mall not long after discovering Tinder on Lovell’s phone, taping it to her side of their bed along with two other knives. One week later, she would enact her plan, slashing Lovell across the neck and abdomen in their bed.

“I was trying to kill him,” she reportedly told police, having hid Lovell’s phone so that he wouldn’t be able to call for help.

Following a struggle, in which Lovell was able to get Javier into a bearhug while she tried to “rip off” his genitals, he was able to convince her to call the police and save him.

“I was able to wing chun my way to survival,” Lovell said, a reference to a type of close-range, Chinese martial arts made popular in Kung Fu movies.

The phone call, released this week, shows a distressed Javier admitting to stabbing Lovell “everywhere,” as she frantically tells a dispatcher that she thinks he’s dead.

According to police, the sight they would eventually arrive to investigate at around 2 a.m. that morning was even more violent than expected, with blood covering the walls of the shared Camas, Washington home as Lovell writhed in agony on the ground. Police at the scene were unable to discern just how many distinct wounds Javier had even inflicted as they rushing Lovell to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Lovell survived and remains in recovery, though the extent of the possible muscle and nerve damage he’s suffered remains unknown. A GoFundMe campaign has been started on Lovell’s behalf to help him pay for the cost of rehab and recovery, with over $8,000 pledged thus far.

Javier is currently being held in the Clark County jail on $350,000 bail for an attempted murder charge. Her trial is scheduled to begin on May 7.

Ranking The Characters Most Likely To Die In ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

$

Marvel

With the release of the second and final trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, anticipation for the decade-in-the-making movie is at an all-time high.

Given that mass casualties are expected (to a certain extent), I decided to rank the heroes must likely to kick the bucket when Thanos roles into town.

One of the Guardians of the Galaxy

Personally, I think this is a lock, as the only members of the Guardians that are guaranteed to survive are Star-Lord and Baby (Teen?) Groot.

My money is on Drax or Rocket, as they’re semi-major characters who would be missed … but not missed too much.

Nick Fury

The man who got it all started, Nick Furt has been with the Avengers since the beginning, as he was the one tasked with getting the team together.

However, given that he’s not a superhero by any stretch of the imagination, Fury is likely candidate to go, as his death would have a massive emotional impact on the audience while having minimal impact on the plot.

Loki

Another obvious choice, Loki’s death would certainly complete his villain-turned-hero arc.

Long considered to be the most entertaining villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki has been a fixture of both the Avengers and Thor movies up to this point. And every time he has appeared, he has become a little bit more of a hero each and every time.

The trailers seem to indicate that Loki will find himself as Thanos’ prisoner, so a self-sacrifice certainly seems likely.

Captain America

Long-rumored to be *the* major consequence of Infinity War is the death of Steve Rodgers, the heart and soul of the Avengers. Chris Evans can’t play Captain America forever, so now seems as likely a time as any for Marvel to phase him out.

Plus, given how handsome he looks with long hair and a beard, Marvel runs the risk of offending their male audience.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Final Trailer Breakdown: 5 Major Easter Eggs

Another trailer for the highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War dropped on March 16, 2018, and the internet is in an uproar about all the new details. While there is plenty to parse through there are several scenes and lines that point to Easter Eggs from comics and previous movies. The Avengers: Infinity War comes to theaters on April 27. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the team behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Let’s check out what’s going on in this new trailer below.

Let’s check out what’s going on in this new trailer below.

1.Thanos’s Goal

At the very beginning of the trailer Gamora, the adopted daughter and former personal assassin of Thanos, states “The entire time I knew him he only ever had one goal: to wipe out half the universe. If he gets all the Infinity Stones, he can do it with a snap of his fingers.” While normally this could be taken as a grandiose exaggeration of a villain’s aim’s, in this case, it is entirely correct.

Thanos uses Infinity Gauntlet to destroy half the universe

In Infinity Gauntlet, the comic which seems to be the main inspiration for the film’s plot, Thanos destroys half of all life in the universe with a snap of his gauntleted fingers in the very first issue. While in the comic this act was only a means to an end and not his actual goal, as Gamora claims, her statement is still a direct allusion to an iconic moment in comic history and may even be replicated in the film.

2.Doctor Strange’s Infinity Stone

“We got one advantage: He’s coming to us,” Tony Stark states in the trailer as Doctor Strange’s amulet glows with a green light. “We have what Thanos wants.”

The Time Stone is kept within the Eye of Agomotto

This ties in the events of the Doctor Strange film into the Infinity War’s narrative. In it, the Eye of Agomotto, Strange’s signature amulet, is revealed to contain an Infinity stone, specifically the Time Stone. This seems to be the final gem Thanos needs to complete the Infinity Gauntlet and attain ultimate power, and the reason he and his forces are directly attacking Earth. While the previous trailer showed the Vision still in possession of the Mind Stone, it also showed a henchman of Thanos in the process of removing it. This makes the Time Stone almost certainly the remaining Stone the Avengers possess “that Thanos wants.”

3. Thor at the Forge

Trailers, stills, and even children’s toys have all seemed to hint at Thor receiving a new weapon to replace Mjolnir, and this trailer proved no exception.

Thor and his new weapon

Both comics and MCU get into some details about how Mjolnir was made, chiefly that it was made using the heat and power of a star. In the first trailer, we saw Thor standing in an elaborate machine positioned across from a star, seemingly exerting a great deal of effort as the Guardians of the Galaxy watched in what seemed like awe. This trailer shows what could very well be the same scene, but with the thunder god standing triumphantly with an object in his hand emitting lightning similarly to the old Mjolnir. Fans are speculating that this weapon forged in the same manner as Thor’s hammer could be the ax Jarnbjorn, used in Thor’s youth before he could wield Mjolnir and currently carried by him again in his Unworthy state

4. Gamora’s ‘Adoption’

In both comics and the movies, Gamora was raised from a young age by Thanos, less as a daughter and more of a living weapon. In the comics he found her after her entire species, the Zen-Whobari, had been eradicated by an outside force while in the MCU he himself was responsible for their slaughter.

Thanos takes in Gamora as his ward

A brief scene in the trailer shows Thanos taking the hand of what appears to be a small green child and walking with her as his soldiers surround them. This is almost certainly a visualization or flashback to the Titan taking in the young Gamora.

5. The Black Order

The Black Order is an elite team of Thanos’s favorite and most lethal warriors. First appearing in the Infinity crossover event, they individually were nearly capable of defeating some of the strongest kingdoms and fortresses of the Marvel universe, including Wakanda, Attilan, Atlantis, and the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.

The Black order in Infinity (2014)

While two members, Midnight Proxima and Corvus Glaive (speaking in above panel) appeared in the first trailer, the new one shows the full team assembled together for the first time, with the addition of Loki.

The Black Order (and Loki)

If they are anything near as deadly as they were in the comics, our heroes will be facing a fierce fight that all may not survive.

These are only a handful of the exciting new scenes from today’s trailer, but each is significant in their own way! Because of the comic and movie fans alike put their heads together to theorize what will happen to their favorite heroes while we all anxiously wait for April to arrive so we can watch one of biggest movies of the year.

Before Your St. Patrick’s Day 2018 Party, Here’s What You Need To Know About Guinness

Guinness Beer

St. Patrick’s Day is here and it’s important to remember that on March 17th, everyone is a little bit Irish. What better way to celebrate the Emerald Isle than with a nice tall pint of Guinness?

COED sat down with Aaron Ridgeway, a Guinness Brewer and Beer Specialist at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, and he answered all the questions you’ve ever had about the classic Irish stout.

So, how do I pour the perfect Guinness pint?

Aaron Ridgeway: The perfect Guinness pint is a two-part pour over 6 different steps:

Step 1: The Glassware. Cool, clean, dry, and Guinness branded. You want your pint to look right when you’re done.

Step 2: The Angle. Hit a 45-degree slant to make sure the beer will flow nicely and smoothly.

Step 3: The Pour. Pull the tap handle all the way down towards you. You’ll hear the hiss as the pressure of the tap releases Guinness into the glass. You can watch the nitrogen gas separate from the liquid as it leaves the tap. As the glass fills, level it out all the way while continuing to pour, and then shut the tap off once you hit the top of the harp (just over 3/4 full) and leave it on the bar in full view.

Step 4: The Settle and Surge. This is a step of anticipation. Of waiting. The longest minute of your life! You can see the millions of bubbles of nitrogen rise and fall as the shape of the glasses causes an incredible cascade down the edges as the head begins to form on the top of the beer. As the surge subsides you’ll notice the beer darken in color, and once it’s settled completely it’s ready for…

Step 5: Make your Pint Proud. Take your glass back from the bar, hold it level underneath the spout, and then push forward on the tap handle. This reduces the pressure in the line and gives you more control. Stop once the top of the head comes just over the lip of the glass, finishing in a beautiful dome. This is what we call a ‘proud’ pint.

Step 6: The Presentation. Guinness drinkers enjoy our beer with their eyes before it even so much as touches their lips. There is quite honestly just something about how it looks. Take your time, and present the pint with harp facing forward, leaving it on the bar without spilling a drop over the sides. It’s ready to enjoy once it’s turned completely dark.

Congratulations, you’ve crafted the perfect pint!

Why is Guinness the perfect beer for my St. Patrick’s Day party?

Ridgeway: Guinness is the perfect beer for your St. Patrick’s Day party because not only can you enjoy a beautifully smooth Guinness Draught from our limited edition cans if you’re not going to a bar, but you can also choose any of the beers we have in our family to make sure there’s a Guinness for everyone, including our American Blond Lager and Irish Wheat.

We’ve been brewing at St. James’ Gate since 1759, and now have the widest selection of beer available since we started our journey. It’s also worth remembering that this St. Patrick’s Day will be Guinness’ 200th in the United States, and you can even mark the occasion with our 200th Anniversary Stout, celebrating the beginnings of a long relationship with the US and the use of black patent malt in the brew, that gives Guinness its rich roasted flavour and dark ruby red colour.

The ties between Ireland and the United States run deep, and an amazing way to celebrate that relationship is to get your friends together, celebrate your heritage, and enjoy yourself responsibly. With a Guinness, you can cheers to the fact that on the 17th of March, everyone is Irish!

Why should I go with Bulleit Bourbon over Irish Whiskey?

Ridgeway: Bulleit Bourbon is an All-American Kentucky Whiskey that has a beautiful amber color and a nose packed with notes of gentle spice and sweet oak. Having Bulleit Bourbon instead of Irish whiskey is a great way to give a nod to the Irish-American ties and the spirit of innovation that has come with a sense of heritage. Using a small batch method inspired by over 150 years of history in the Bulleit family, it’s a bourbon that has a clean, satiny finish with notes of toffee, and an amazing character thanks to its high rye content, which is something normally not present in Irish whiskey. This gives it some great flavor and depth and is a wonderful way to celebrate being a part of the United States on St. Patrick’s Day.

What’s the perfect food to serve with Guinness at my St. Patrick’s Day party?

Ridgeway: A classic food pairing has existed since 1837 with the first reference to Guinness and oysters made by the then-to-be Prime Minister of Britain, Benjamin Disraeli. Ireland is famous for its seafood and oysters are a really beautiful pairing that combines wonderfully with Guinness Extra Stout. The salty, briny flavor of the oysters perfectly matches the dry, roasted bitterness of a bottle, and is a perfect appetizer for any St. Patrick’s day get together.

For dessert, some Guinness truffles can be easily whipped up, or maybe even some chocolate mousse or a Guinness cake, made using our Guinness Draught. The nitrogen in Draught allows a softer, smoother finish. This enables the malt character of our beer to come through giving it a distinctive bittersweet character which is divine when combined with cakes, sweets, desserts, and bread.

Take a picture of it with you and your friends and tag it #stacheforcharity and for every photo, Guinness will donate $1 up to $100,000 to the Guinness Gives Back fund, which directly supports community efforts like Team Rubicon, which specializes in Veteran-led disaster relief efforts.

March Madness Basketball

Shutterstock

As we proceed to the next slew of intense college basketball affairs, fans and pundits alike are most likely still reeling from the shocking upsets and contentious contests that were apart of the first round of March Madness. However, there is little time to emotionally recover from these momentous displays of competitiveness as round two of the NCAA Tournament will most likely offer even more of the same with blue bloods attempting to advance on to next week while the underrated teams attempt to keep their dreams alive by pulling off more dramatic upsets. For anyone who’s bracket is still unbusted, prepare to endure more anxiety as this grueling yet incredibly exciting tournament wears on. For those whose bracket is already busted, do not be devastated. On the bright side, you can now sit back and comfortably enjoy the forthcoming madness without being completely beholden to the emotional turmoil that comes when your bracket inevitably becomes a hot mess.

Alabama Crimson Tide (9) vs. Villanova Wildcats (1)

The resurgent Crimson Tide emphatically proved that they have every right to be a participant in this tournament after they won a shootout against the accurate shooters of Virginia Tech. Unsurprisingly, Collin Sexton was the star of the game as he made 50% of his shots from the field. However, Sexton was not the only one who was feeling it from a shooting perspective as the Crimson Tide as a whole shot 44.4% from three-point range. Although it’s difficult to gauge the competitive presence of a one seed when they crush a 16 seed in the first round, the Wildcats certainly looked the part of an elite program as they shot over 50% from three-point range, which was the result of the impressive unselfish play by everyone involved (20 assists against Radford). While the Crimson Tide have the physical athletes that can test and overcome Villanova’s relatively weak defense, the Wildcats have the more dynamic shooters that are as cerebral as they are deadly when it comes to shooting the basketball from anywhere on the court.

Final Score: Crimson Tide 78 Wildcats 84 Spread: Villanova -1.0

Rhode Island Rams (7) vs. Duke Blue Devils (2)

Impressively, the Rams were able to beat the Sooners at their own game in the first round of the tournament by winning a shootout in dramatic fashion. Shooting 39.3% from three-point range, the Rams persistence when it came to shooting the basketball was refreshing for a program that struggled mightily when it came to producing offensively throughout the regular season. Although Duke’s ultimate victory over Iona was not pretty at the start of the contest, the Blue Devils eventually were able to establish their burgeoning zone defense while their guards and Marvin Bagley III provided more than enough on offense for their team to run away with the victory in the second half. While Rhode Island has the opportunistic defenders that are adept at stealing the basketball from their opponent, Duke’s abundance of elite playmakers should be more than enough for them to move on to the Sweet Sixteen.

Final Score: Rams 69 Blue Devils 77 Spread: Duke -9.5

Buffalo Bulls (13) vs. Kentucky Wildcats (5)

I don’t care if you’re a Power 5 Conference program or a relatively unknown Mid-Major team. If you can outplay the physically gifted Arizona Wildcats offensively, you deserve a tremendous amount of praise. Although you could point to the Bulls incredible accuracy from the three-point range as the catalyst for their success against the Wildcats (50%), it was actually their ability to dominate Arizona on the defensive glass that was the difference maker in this contest (24 defensive rebounds for the Bulls, 19 defensive for the Wildcats). Although Kentucky struggled mightily to run off Davidson’s perimeter shooters, they were able to get to the basket on offense consistently while making clutch free throw shots down the stretch of the game (81.3 FT%). If the Bulls can be as accurate at shooting the deep ball as they were against Arizona, the Wildcats will have a difficult time keeping up offensively as they are inconsistent at shooting from beyond the perimeter. However, Kentucky’s adeptness at rebounding the ball off of the defensive glass will give them the edge over the Bulls in the end.

Final Score: Bulls 81 Wildcats 86 Spread: Kentucky -6.0

Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (11) vs. Tennessee Volunteers (3)

As they had done throughout the regular season, the Ramblers were highly efficient both defensively and offensively in a thrilling victory over Miami. Despite being outrebounded, the Ramblers were able to hang tough as they turned the basketball over just 10 times (16 turnovers for Miami) and were unafraid to shoot from three-point range, which was the reason for their buzzer beater victory. Against Wright State, the Volunteers played to their impressive strengths by dominating the defensive glass while holding the Raiders to a minuscule to a 31.7 shooting percentage from the field. However, even more importantly, the Volunteers were able to take advantage of their opportunities from the free throw line (87.5 FT%), something that the Ramblers were abysmal at against Miami (44 FT%). Although the Ramblers possess the better shooters, the Volunteers are better at rebounding the basketball, which will be vital in what should be a gritty defensive grudge match.

Final Score: Ramblers 67 Volunteers 75 Spread: Tennessee -6.0

Seton Hall Pirates (8) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (1)

Despite averaging under 80 points per game during the regular season, the Pirates were finally able to utilize their skilled playmakers as they made 48.3% of their shots from the field. Better still, the Pirates only gave up seven turnovers against NC State, which is stunning when you consider that Seton Hall averaged 13 turnovers per game in the regular season. While the Jayhawks eventually pulled away against the Quakers in their first-round contest, it was by no means a pretty victory. Thanks to their clutch free throw shooting and rebounding dominance, the Jayhawks were able to deprive the Quakers of much-needed opportunities down the stretch of what was a surprisingly close contest. Although the Jayhawks will most likely win this contest as they have the consummate ball-facilitators, they need to be wary of a Pirates program that loves to attack the glass, which will be vital in deciding the outcome of this game.

Final Score: Pirates 77 Jayhawks 80 Spread: Kansas -4.5

Ohio State Buckeyes (5) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (4)

Although the Buckeyes victory over the Jackrabbits was closer than they probably would have liked, the fact that they were able to hold one of the most efficient offenses in college basketball to 38.1% shooting from the field is actually stunning. Even struggling to shoot the basketball themselves, the Buckeyes were still able to put up 81 points as they were able to garner themselves ample scoring opportunities by tenaciously attacking the defensive glass. While it would be easy to look at the Bulldogs close victory over UNC Greensboro and assume that they are in serious trouble, they actually overcame one of the toughest defenses in the country that is known for blocking out scorers when they attempt to shoot from three-point range. If anything, the Bulldogs close victory was indicative of how far their much-improved defense has come this season, something that will be vital against an offensively gifted program. Without a doubt, this will be an incredibly close contest with both programs attacking the glass ferociously. However, Gonzaga is just a bit better at rebounding the basketball, an advantage that will allow them to win another close game.

Final Score: Buckeyes 72 Bulldogs 74 Spread: Gonzaga -3.5

Florida Gators (6) vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (3)

Offensively inconsistent throughout the regular season, the Gators still struggled to be efficient at scoring the basketball in their victory over St. Bonaventure. However, it was Florida’s oppressive defense that was on full display as they held the Bonnies to 35.4% shooting from the field while garnering 11 steals. Even more importantly though was the Gators disciplined nature when securing the basketball (nine turnovers), something that was vital in preventing the Bonnies from making a comeback in what was an entertaining contest. Although the Red Raiders struggled mightily to shoot from the perimeter (25 3P%), their exceptional play defensively proved to be enough to shut down the tenacious offense of the Lumberjacks as they held them to shooting just 38.3% from the field. While the Red Raiders have the better rebounders and are more consistent defensively, the Gators are better at protecting the basketball and will be able to focus their defensive pressure solely on preventing Texas Tech from getting to the basket.

Final Score: Gators 73 Red Raiders 68 Spread: Texas Tech -1.5

Houston Cougars (6) vs. Michigan Wolverines (3)

While the Cougars had a poor showing offensively against San Diego State, they were able to win during the waning seconds of the contest thanks to the clutch lay-up by their athletic guard in Rob Gray (39 points eight rebounds). As a team, the Cougars were able to avoid costly turnovers and continually feed their consummate playmaker in Gray, which ended up being enough for them to win. However, against the well-rounded defense of Michigan, the Cougars may have to come out with an alternate strategy if they hope to move on to the Sweet Sixteen. Holding Montana to just 32% shooting from the field, the Wolverines never allowed the Grizzlies to find open looks and were able to hold them to just 47 points as a result of their oppressive defense. Although Rob Gray is a clear difference maker and will undoubtedly make some noise in this affair, the Wolverines are far too efficient and cerebral defensively to allow the Cougars to continually feed their star playmaker.

Final Score: Cougars 66 Wolverines 70 Spread: Michigan -3.0

Butler Bulldogs (10) vs. Purdue Boilermakers (2)

Although the Bulldogs were not a great defensive or rebounding program throughout the regular season, they managed to be exceptional at both in a dominant victory over Arkansas. Outrebounding the Razorbacks 45-25, the Bulldogs provided their streaky yet relentless offense with ample opportunities to score consistently. While the Boilermakers would normally have the recipe for slowing down the tenacious Bulldogs in big man Isaac Hass, the dynamic playmaker sustained a broken elbow in Purdue’s round one victory over Cal State Fullerton. Although both Vincent Edwards and Carsen Edwards are both capable defensive rebounders themselves, they do not provide the same physical post presence that Haas does offensively. In a battle of streaky offenses, the Bulldogs have the slight edge as their outside shooting capabilities combined with their newfound rebounding prowess will allow them to win a thrilling contest against Purdue.

Final Score: Bulldogs 75 Boilermakers 70 Spread: Purdue -3.5

Syracuse Orange (11) vs. Michigan State Spartans (3)

Holding two powerhouse offenses in Arizona State and TCU to under 60 points, the underrated defense of the Orange is starting to shine brightly when it matters the most. Against TCU, the Orange were highly effective at blocking out their opponents three points shooters, which allowed them to win a low scoring contest. Although the Spartans normally tough-minded defense struggled mightily to contain Bucknell’s tenacious offense in the first round, Michigan State was at least able to rectify the issues of their struggling offense as they scored 82 points against the Bison. Most notably, it was the Spartans adeptness at rebounding the basketball that allowed them to be highly productive offensively, something that has to continue if they hope to move on to the second weekend of the tournament. While the Orange’s defense is playing at an elite level, their anemic offense has held them back this year and will ultimately prevent them from overcoming a Spartans program that is capable of dominating a game on both sides of the court.

Final Score: Orange 62 Spartans 71 Spread:

Texas A&M Aggies (7) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (2)

While Texas A&M had one of the more tumultuous seasons in college basketball in terms of success this year, the resilient Aggies were able to stave off one scoring run after another against the Providence Friars in their first-round contest. Playing to their strengths, the Aggies effectively utilized their size to dominate the Friars on the boards (44-26 in favor of the Aggies) and were efficient at making the most of their opportunities when scoring near the basket (50 FG%). As the top rebounding program in college basketball this season, the Tar Heels demoralized Lipscomb in their first-round matchup as they outrebounded the Bisons 47-29. However, what was even more impressive than that was North Carolina’s athletic guards stepping up and hitting their long-range shots (40.9 3P%), something that the Tar Heels were streaky at accomplishing during the regular season. While the Aggies have the bigger bodies and much more physical playmakers, the versatility of the Tar Heels when it comes to scoring and rebounding will allow them to eventually overwhelm the one-dimensional athletes of Texas A&M.

Final Score: Aggies 77 Tar Heels 86 Spread: North Carolina -6.0

Nevada Wolf Pack (7) vs. Cincinnati Bearcats (2)

After being down by double-digits throughout most of their contest against the Texas Longhorns, the Wolf Pack were able to make several clutch three-point shots in overtime to persevere in the first round of the tournament. Shooting 50.8% from the field, the Wolf Pack stayed true to their competitive style of moving the ball to their open shooters and making high-percentage shots from a variety of areas on the court. Conversely, the Bearcats had to grind out what was eventually a comfortable win over Georgia State by ferociously attacking the glass (outrebounded the Panthers 46-26) while being disciplined in not fouling the Panthers constantly (Panthers shot just three free throws). Defensively, the Bearcats were fantastic at guarding the perimeter as the Panthers were only able to make 29.6% of their three-point shots. In a matchup of two polar opposite programs in terms of competitive styles, I like the Bearcats to ultimately take advantage of a Wolf Pack program that can be a bit hasty and streaky when taking and making long-range shots.

Final Score: Wolf Pack 69 Bearcats 73 Spread: Cincinnati -7.0

Clemson Tigers (5) vs. Auburn Tigers (4)

Going up against one of the most efficient defenses in college basketball, Clemson was surprisingly able to score 79 points while shooting 55.9% from the field. On top of that, Clemson was incredibly disciplined at securing the basketball as they only gave the ball away eight times, which was vital in allowing them to win their first-round contest fairly comfortably. Unlike Clemson, Auburn looked lost offensively in their ugly win over Charleston as they shot just 35.6% from the field and turned the ball over 12 times. Interestingly, it was Auburn’s tenacious defense that saved the day as they recorded 10 steals while Charleston’s offense turned the ball over 21 times. Against Clemson, Auburn cannot expect to reap the same type of benefits as they did against Charleston. Considering how strong Clemson is at rebounding and defending the basketball, Auburn’s only hope of moving on to the Sweet Sixteen is to make more than half their shots, something that they have struggled mightily to do recently.

Final Score: Clemson 77 Auburn 67 Spread:

UMBC Retrievers (16) vs. Kansas State Wildcats (9)

Not only did the Retrievers become the first 16 seed to upset a one seed in NCAA Tournament history, they did so in a dominant fashion as they crushed the Cavaliers by a score of 74-54. Abusing the Cavaliers when it came to rebounding (outrebounded Virginia 33-22) the basketball, the Retrievers were able to convert those extra opportunities into multiple scores on offense thanks to their cerebral ball sharing abilities (16 assists). Although the Wildcats victory over Creighton was not nearly as impressive by comparison, they were able to stifle a prolific offense in Creighton by outshooting them from three-point range while preventing the Blue Jays from making those same long-range shots. More importantly, it was the Wildcats discipline when it came to not recklessly fouling the Blue Jays that allowed them to win down the stretch despite scoring just 69 points. While the success story of the Retrievers is legendary, the Wildcats oppressive defense combined with their patience on offense will allow them to extinguish the confidence of UMBC in the second round.

Final Score: Retrievers 63 Wildcats 75 Spread:

Florida State Seminoles (9) vs. Xavier Musketeers (1)

Although Missouri was able to hold their own when it came to rebounding the basketball, they were unable to get their offense going against a Seminoles program that was much more fluid in that regard from the opening tip-off. Recording 18 assists while shooting 46.7% from three points range, the Seminoles intelligently bided their time until open scoring opportunities presented themselves. Unsurprisingly, Xavier’s dreadful defense barely held up against Texas Southern, but the Musketeers were able to overcome this deficiency by making 54.7% of their shots from the field while garnering 32 defensive rebounds against the Tigers. Strangely, despite giving up 83 points, the Musketeers recorded 10 blocks against Texas Southern, an interesting stat that will most likely not be repeatable against the much more sizeable athletes of the Seminoles. While I do like the exceptional shooters of the Musketeers to ultimately win this affair, their lack of a decent defense could put them in a dire situation going forward if their offense goes cold at some point during the tournament.

Final Score: Seminoles 81 Musketeers 89 Spread:

Marshall Thundering Herd (13) vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (5)

Going shot for shot with one of the most efficient offenses in college basketball, the Thundering Herd’s confidence never wavered as they were able to make several clutch three points shots and an emphatic dunk down the stretch to send the devastated Shockers back to Wichita. Turning the ball over just nine times, the Thundering Herd were able to cover up their issues defensively by being disciplined and patient when finding their open shooters. In a blow out victory over Murray State, the Mountaineers were able to intimidate the Racers with their full court press as they garnered 9 steals while holding their opponent to shooting just 30.4% from three-point range. Offensively, West Virginia made the most of their opportunities near the basket as they shot 51.6% from the field while scoring 85 points in the contest. While the relentless shooters of Marshall could befuddle the Mountaineers defense initially, West Virginia’s commitment to trapping and garnering steals will eventually stifle the Thundering Herd down the stretch.

Final Score: Thundering Herd 74 Mountaineers 80 Spread:
