Early Tuesday morning saw Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, be placed on lockdown due to reports of shooting at the school. The suspect was later identified as Austin Wyatt Rollins, who is believed to be a current, 17-year-old student. With the FBI’s Baltimore field office arriving on the scene, police were able to contain the situation. During early reports, police were unable to confirm just how many people had been killed or injured during the incident, although some reports claimed at least two or three victims had been taken to a local hospital.

What happened?

St. Mary’s Sheriff issued the following statement on Twitter:

“There has been an incident at Great Mills High School. Parents please DO NOT respond to the school. Report to Leonardtown High School”

Eric Flack, an investigative reporter for WUSA 9, a CBS affiliate, issued the following statement on Twitter, confirming that victims had been taken to a local hospital:

“BREAKING: Victims from shooting at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County taken to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital 15 minutes from school. Multiple injuries reported. ATF on the scene for analysis of weapon used. Sheriffs Department currently lead investigating agency.”

Brad Bell, a reporter for ABC 7, confirmed that there had been three victims, later confirming that one of them was the shooter himself, on Twitter:

“I’m being told by sources that 3 people have been shot at #greatmillsshooting. No longer active shooter.”

“#BREAKING confirmed with sources at #greatmillsshooting : 3 students injured. 1 is the shooter. A school resource officer was on duty and took action to end threat. No final word on conditions.”

First-hand accounts of the shooting

According to NBC News, Terrence Rhames, a senior at the school, gave an eye-witness account of the situation:

“I heard one shot and when we ran, we saw a teacher and he was looking at us with a confused look.”

“We were trying to figure out if this is real.”

“It was just shocking. You hear about shootings you never think would happen to you.”

Who is Austin Wyatt Rollins?

Austin Wyatt Rollins was believed to be 17 years old at the time of the incident and is believed to be a student of the school the incident took place. The Maryland Enterprise confirmed that he was an honor student.

According to Newsweek, he allegedly shot a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy with a handgun in the school hallway early in the morning.

As mentioned above, Rollins eventually lost his life in a shoot-off between himself and an armed officer, who himself was later found unhurt. The two classmates were later taken to a local hospital.

While Rollins’ motive is currently under investigation, Sheriff Tim Cameron told reporters that it is believed he and the female victim had a previous relationship; any relationship between Rollins and the male victim is unknown at this time.

Early Tuesday morning, a teenage gunman, later identified as Austin Wyatt Rollins, brought a handgun to his school, shooting two classmates; after a shoot-off between him and an armed school resource officer, or “SRO,”  himself later identified as Blaine Gaskill, Rollins eventually lost his life, although early reports of the incident could not confirm if he had been shot by the SRO or if he had been hurt by a self-inflicted gunshot.

What happened?

According to USA Today, the situation Tuesday morning was explained as follows:

“A male student (now identified as Rollins) fired at a female student in a hallway, also hitting a male student. An armed school resources officer arrived at the scene, exchanging shots with the gunman.”

Who is Blaine Gaskill?

Although early reports did not identify Gaskill as the SRO involved in the story, Blaine Gaskill is listed as in the position on the school’s official website, where he was given the title of Deputy.

According to The Maryland Enterprise, Gaskill made headlines last year for a story in which a man identified as Pekka Robert Heinonen was accused of pulling a gun on him.

According to the St. Mary County Sheriff’s Department official website, the School Resource Officer (SRO) has been a part of the school since the 1998-1999 school year; the position is described as follows in the statement below:

“[A SRO] performs a variety of roles to include being a mentor, teacher and a law enforcement resource for both students and staff. They work with the school faculty to maintain a safe learning environment. Each SRO is certified through the National Association of School Resource Officers (N.A.S.R.O.) as well as through DARE America to teach the middle school DARE curriculum.”

A student gunman, Austin Rollins, was killed Tuesday morning after opening fire at Great Mills High School in Maryland, where two students were critically wounded. Blaine Gaskill has been identified as the school resource officer who shot and killed Rollins, saving additional lives.

According to St. Mary’s County Sheriff Timothy Cameron, the school resource (SRO) officer assigned to Great Mills High School took down the handgun-wielding teenager. Reports indicate that an unidentified 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were wounded during the mayhem. The boy is now in stable condition, officials said, but the girl remains critical.

Rollins, who arrived at the hospital in critical condition, died at about 10:40 a.m.

via WENY:

School resource officer Blaine Gaskill responded to the scene in less than a minute, the sheriff said. Gaskill fired a round at the shooter, and the shooter fired a round simultaneously, Cameron said.

Rollins was later pronounced dead. Gaskill was unharmed. The 16-year-old female student is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, and the 14-year-old male student who was shot is in stable condition.

Cameron said he was not sure if Gaskill’s bullet hit the suspect, but he praised the officer’s quick response to the situation.

Great Mills High School is a comprehensive public high school of 1600+ students in grades 9-12. It serves students at the confluence of the Potomac River, Patuxent River, and Chesapeake Bay. The area is a mixture of rural and suburban communities.

The shooting comes more than a month after the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead.

Here Are The Top 3 Favorites To Win 2018 Champions League

The 2017-2018 UEFA Champions League has been going on since June 27, 2017, and in two months on May 26, 2018, it will come to an end. The European premier club soccer tournament is in its 63rd season. Real Madrid came out as the winners of last season after a 4-1 victory over Juventus. Now everyone is looking to see who will claim this year’s title as winners of the 2017-2018 Champions League. Currently, there are eight teams left. Of the teams remaining, there are two English, three Spanish, two Italian and one German. Here are the top three teams to look out for.

FC Barcelona

Instagram Photo

With forward Lionel Messi who just reached his 100th UEFA Champions League goal after scoring two goals against Chelsea on March 14, Barcelona stands as a strong contender for claiming the title. They are ranked third in the UEFA club and have consistently performed well throughout the tournament with their excellent dribbling skills, continual movement, and impressive central attack. Despite having some minor defensive issues, Barcelona’s future looks bright.

Real Madrid CF

Instagram Photo

As returning winners of last season, Real Madrid looks promising especially after their recent 3-1 win over Paris Saint Germain. Forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s 117 goals scored in the league along with his title of being the all-time record goalscorer in the history of European soccer helps make a convincing argument for why Real Madrid is among the top three favorites to win. The team is currently ranked first in the UEFA club. Though Real Madrid has appeared to struggle a bit in their local league, they have remained a competing force in the Champions League.

FC Bayern Munich

Instagram Photo

With a potent backline and an intimidating midfield, Bayern Munich’s chances to win look hopeful. They are ranked second in the UEFA club. As the best soccer team in Germany, Bayern excels at keeping possession in the middle of the field and then feeding the flanks to spread their opponent’s defense wide. Bayern is always known to make it to the later rounds of the Champions League, so it is no surprise that they are included on this list.

The Champion League Final is to be played in Kiev, Ukraine at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex on Saturday, May 26, 2018.

If I saw Aubrey O’Day in an alleyway during the middle of the night, I’d think to myself: “well, this is it, this is how I die — I’m gonna get abducted by an alien.” Seriously, the woman has had so much plastic surgery done, she does not seem of this Earth any longer.

However, before all the plastic surgery, O’Day was, in fact, a regular human being.

O’Day, born February 11, 1984, is an American singer-songwriter, member of the duo Dumblonde, reality television personality, and a former member of the girl group Danity Kane. Danity Kane was formed on the MTV show Making The Band.

O’Day has modeled for magazines such as Blender and Playboy, and performed on Broadway in Hairspray. In 2011, she signed a solo record deal with SRC/Universal Motown Records, and released her debut EP Between Two Evils in 2013. In 2015, O’Day formed the electropop duo Dumblonde with her former Danity Kane groupmate Shannon Bex.

Additionally, O’Day has made appearances on reality television shows, including the fifth season of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, Famously Single on the E! Network, and, most recently, she placed 5th on Celebrity Big Brother 18.

WWE SmackDown Live Stream: How To Watch ‘SmackDown’ Online – 03/20/18

The superstars of SmackDown Live invade the American Airlines Center tonight in Dallas, Texas. Last week, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn showed that they are on the same page by taking out SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon via pop-up powerbomb onto a ladder. McMahon will be taking a leave of absence while The Yep Movement rides high into Tuesday night. Although, Zayn and Owens still have to face each other at WrestleMania, my guess is that it will develop into a tag team match involving the returning Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon. Now, that’s a WrestleMania match!

Breaking News: Daniel Bryan has been medically cleared to return to the ring, according to WWE’s Instagram page.

The Bludgeon Brothers absolutely annihilated both The New Day and The Usos. Rowan and Harper interrupted their match last week and wrecked two of the best tag teams on the blue brand. Will The New Day and The Usos join forces to eliminate the beastly Bludgeon Brothers? Find out on tonight’s show!

WWE Champion AJ Styles got laid out by the YEP Movement at a house show event Friday night in Madison Square Garden. I wonder how that will play into tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live as well as Styles’ WrestleMania match against Shinsuke Nakamura.

‘Infinity War’s Thanos: What Do We Know About The Marvel Villain?

Thanos in new Infinity War trailer

With Avengers: Infinity War about to take over theaters on April 27, 2018, let’s relax our armies, put down our vibranium toys, and take a few minutes to get to know the literal looming big bad, Thanos. Over the past decade, we’ve been introduced to many Marvel villains, but Thanos is no ordinary foe and here is why we should all be afraid.

Who is Thanos?

Avengers/Marvel

Born on Saturn’s moon, Titan, this lent itself to his own crude nickname the “Mad Titan”. Since he is from a race of Eternals (not to be confused with the Celestials as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) Thanos is larger than life, both literally and figuratively. His immense stature and strength allow moons to fly off him like ping pong balls and his grandiose verbiage makes him sound like a galactic philosopher. Thanos destroys planets, enslaves races, kidnaps children for his own, and most importantly, does this all in the name of his love, known as Lady (or Mistress) Death. Who says chivalry is dead?

What Are His Powers?

Thanos

Wikimedia Commons

Enhanced agility and reflexes come as a shock for a guy this big. Not much stands in his way that he can’t physically move. Even his skin is as tough as the man looks! Nearly impenetrable, this poses a challenge for a group of heroes who mainly shoot energy blasters, lightning bolts, and the occasional arrow at enemy invaders. If it seems like the only way in to take the big guy down is through some form of psychic attack… not happening. Thanos’ mind is invulnerable to such means of attack. The scariest thing about this dude is how his real superpower seems to be the fact he exists.

Where Have We Met Thanos?

Thanos

Via YouTube/Screenjunkies

Back at the end of Marvel’s: The Avengers (2012) once the failed Chitauri invasion was brought to his attention, saying that to challenge the people of Earth is to “court death.” We see the Mad Titan slowly spin around in his looming hover chair with a maniacal grin on his face as if he was bursting for an opportunity to prove himself to Lady Death. It goes without saying this brief introduction was enough to leave a lasting impression.

From there, we saw Thanos bide his time, teaming up with the Kree fanatic Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). Lending Ronan his two favorite adoptive daughters, Gamora and Nebula, to retrieve an orb containing the power stone in exchange for Thanos destroying the planet Xandar once the orb is given to him by Ronan. Sounds a bit exhausting, right?

Now, one can ask the question, why does Thanos bother to make deals with species like Chitauri or Kree or even Loki for that matter, when he is perfectly capable of scooping up these stones himself? A logical explanation is he, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is playing the long game. If you’re the biggest and the baddest at the table, why not hold on to your cards a while longer? Also, these tactics have allowed others to seize the glory (or the blame, based on where you stand) and still provide the same end result for Thanos: obtaining a stone. If an ally fails, well, it’s a big universe with plenty of takers.

Who Are The Black Order?

Via YouTube/Marvel

By now it’s clear that Thanos really loves collecting things. Children… stones… allies… you name it! He may be a Mad Titan, but he’s not above delegating. As the newest film installment approaches, we get to meet the Black Order, loyal followers of Thanos who come with their own sadistic aspirations of making their leader proud. The starting lineup includes:

  • Black Dwarf: massive stature, super-strength, enhanced density, and impenetrable skin
  • Proxima Midnight: lethal with a spear, super strength, super speed, super endurance and some invulnerability
  • Corvus Glaive: enhanced strength, speed, durability, endurance and uses a bladed pike which can cut through anything (or anyone)
  • Ebony Maw: genius-level intellect, specializes in persuasion and teleportation
  • Supergiant: parasitic mind control abilities, telepathic abilities

These are no mere foot soldiers. If you can’t think of half a dozen ways each member of the Black Order can personally maul, maim, and mind-f**k the Avengers, I envy your wide-eyed optimism.

Now that we know more about what Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are up against, it begs the question can the Mad Titan be stopped and if so, at what cost? The stakes have never been higher and it seems our heroes are going to have to cover the planet on all fronts to stop this war from becoming a massacre.

Donovan Mitchell Net Worth 2018: How Much is Donovan Mitchell Worth?

$

Less heralded than fellow guards De’Aaron Fox, Lonzo Ball, Markelle Fultz and Dennis Smith Jr coming into the 2017 NBA draft, Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell has outshined them all.  A mere 21 years old, the future is endlessly bright for Mitchell. How did he get to this point, and how much is he earning in the NBA?

Donovan Mitchell Net Worth:  $2,621,280

As of 2018, Mitchell is worth just over $2.6 million thanks to his rookie contract with the Utah Jazz. Let’s take a look at his career so far!

Early Life

Instagram Photo

Mitchell was born north of New York City in the town of Elmsford, NY. Donovan was around professional sports from a young age as his father, Donovan Sr is a high up public relations official with the New York Mets. Naturally, Donovan took an interest in baseball, playing it up until his junior year of high school, when he decided to make the full commitment to Basketball. He left the greater New York City area for those last two years, hooping up at Brewster Academy in the rural, Northeast New Hampshire town of Wolfeboro.

College Career

Instagram Photo

Instagram Photo

While at Brewster Academy, Mitchell earned plaudits from his coaches and media. He was oft praised for his hard-working competitiveness, as well as his offensive and defensive skills. By his senior year, he was a four-star recruit, ranked 31st in the country among high school seniors. He garnered a staggering amount of offers, 18 in fact, including from blueblood schools like Kansas, Villanova, Indiana, and Georgetown, before signing with the controversial legend Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals.

Mitchell’s freshman year was rocky on multiple fronts, as his Louisville team was marred by scandal thanks to a recruiting/sex scandal perpetrated by, of course, Pitino, involving the use of female escorts to entice incoming and prospective players. Hoping to avoid further punishment, Pitino announced that Louisville would self-impose a one-year postseason ban. All the while, Mitchell struggled on the floor, one-dimensionally and inefficiently scoring a meager 7.4 points a game on 44 percent shooting.

Mitchell showed tremendous improvement during his sophomore season. With the scandal and post-season ban behind the team, Mitchell led Louisville in scoring and displayed the all-around offensive/defensive talent that had impressed so many in high school. Despite a disappointing exit after high expectations to Michigan in the second round of the 2017 NCAA tournament, Mitchell declared for the NBA draft, viewed by pundits as a late lottery pick.

NBA Draft

Instagram Photo

Despite his ceremonious improvement in year two at Louisville, Mitchell was lost a bit in the mix behind sexier guard prospects like Lonzo Ball. Even so, lottery teams such as the Knicks and Mavericks expressed their interest in Donovan. Ultimately, he was selected with the thirteenth pick by the Denver Nuggets, who not long after traded him to the Utah Jazz. The East Coast kid from the suburbs of New York City was headed west.

Rookie Season

Instagram Photo

From the get-go, Donovan has surpassed expectations in the NBA, distinguishing himself as thus far the best player of the 2017 draft. He is presently averaging 19.9 points a game with 3.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals while playing 33 minutes a night. It should be expected that Mitchell’s net worth will explode and expand as he continues to grow into a true NBA superstar.

Austin Serial Bomber Identified As 24-Year-Old Mark Anthony Conditt

Mark Anthony Conditt, a 24-year-old white man, has been named as the suspect in the Austin bombings. Conditt, considered to be a “serial bomber”, died on Wednesday, March 21 by detonating a bomb inside his car. The bombings, which began on March 2, killed two people and left terrorized Texas for 19 days.

Austin police confirmed they obtained surveillance images showing the suspect at a FedEx store in Austin, later identifying the car and spotting it at a hotel in Round Rock, Texas.

According to CNN, officers waited for tactical units to arrive on the scene, the man began to drive away and later stopped on the side of the road. Conditt stopped on the side of the Interstate 35 frontage road, detonating a bomb as officers approached, knocking one of the officers to the ground and injuring him. Another officer, a member of the SWAT team, fired at the suspect. That officer will be placed on administrative duty, which is standard practice while the investigation is underway.

Mark Anthony Conditt, who suffered “significant injuries,” died inside the vehicle. At this time, it is believed that Conditt lived in Pflugerville, Texas.

ABC 13 reports that authorities are now questioning two former roommates of Conditt’s at a home in Pflugerville and they are cooperating with investigators. Furthermore, the roommates are not considered suspects.

via CNN:

The first explosion killed 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House on March 2. The second blast on March 12 killed 17-year-old Draylen Mason. The third blast happened several hours later and critically injured a 75-year-old woman.

Those three blasts all happened after someone left explosives-laden packages on the victims’ doorsteps. In the fourth blast, a device was triggered by a tripwire, injuring two white men in a predominantly white area.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that those bombings could be hate crimes. They urged residents to pay attention to their surroundings, and not approach or touch anything that looks suspicious.

Three of the four bombings involved cardboard packages left in front yards or on porches. Those three explosions — the first on March 2 and two more happening on March 12 — killed or wounded three African-Americans and one Hispanic person.

During a press conference, Police Chief Brian Manley warned residents to remain vigilant:

“This is the culmination of three very long weeks for our community,” Manley said. “We don’t know where the suspect has spent his last 24 hours, and therefore we still need to remain vigilant to ensure no other packages or devices have been left in the community.”

At this time, Conditt’s motive for the bombings is unknown:

“That’s the one thing we don’t have right now, is a motive behind this,” Manley said. “We do not understand what motivated him to do what he did, and that will also be part of the continuing investigation as we try to learn more about him.”

In total, two people were killed and six people were injured due to Conditt’s serial bombings. At 6:28 a.m. this morning, President Trump tweeted about the incident “AUSTIN BOMBING SUSPECT IS DEAD. Great job by law enforcement and all concerned!”

Police have identified the suspect behind a string of bombings in Austin, Texas, as Mark Anthony Conditt, who had been killed close to a hotel after a set off another bomb, both killing himself and injuring a nearby police officer, early in the morning of Wednesday. As his name has finally been released, investigators are looking into his family and background.

What do we know so far?

According to the New York Post, it was believed that Conditt lived with two roommates, with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirming that he was a resident of the Texas city of Pflugerville; according to the publication, the governor also issued the following statements on Fox & Friends:

“We don’t know if there are any other bombs out there and, if so, how many or where they may be.”

“We need to go throughout the day and make sure we rule out whether anybody else was involved in this process.”

It is believed that the two roommates will help in the upcoming investigation. At this time, it is also believed that Conditt was unemployed at the time of the incident and did not serve in the military.

According to the Austin-American Statesman, an unidentified neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described him as a nice kid from a good family, adding that he was friends with their children growing up, adding, upon hearing that Conditt was linked to the recent bombings:

“I know this is a cliché but I just can’t imagine that.”

The Austin-American Statesman also revealed that Conditt had been homeschooled; Conditt’s mother, identified as Diane, wrote the following concerning his graduation on Facebook:

“I officially graduated Mark from High School on Friday. 1 down, 3 to go. He has 30 hrs of college credit too, but he’s thinking of taking some time to figure out what he wants to do….maybe a mission trip. Thanks to everyone for your support over the years.”

It was also believed that he and his father, Pat Conditt, purchased a Pflugerville property last year, now valued at $69,000; he was living in that house, which he was believed to have built with his father, at the time of the incident.

What do we know about Conditt himself?

Looking at his background, TMZ uncovered that Conditt was a student in an online American government class in 2012 for Austin Community College; uncovering a few of his blog posts, which had been saved as TMZ documents, it was noted that Conditt discussed his opinion on a lot of social issues, from gay marriage to the sex-offender registry to his support of the death penalty:

“Homosexuality is not natural. Just look at the male and female bodies … It would be like trying to fit two screws together and to nuts together and then say, ‘see, it’s natural for them to go together.'”

“You have to really hate the guy to make him suffer for the rest of his life, even when his prison time is up.”

“Living criminals harm and murder again — executed ones do not.”

As this story is developing, more information will be updated as it is released.

Is LeBron James’ Weird 2018 Season Setting Up To Be His Most Remarkable?

LeBron James

WENN

It’s been a long year for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. We can point fingers: owner Dan Gilbert, Kyrie Irving, new GM Koby Altman, J.R. Smith, Tristan Thompson-Kardashian, Isaiah Thomas, and Kevin Love have all been, at some point in the past eight months, complicit in contributing to a roller coaster of a season for The Land. Trades, firings, hirings, statistical disappointments, massive lineup changes, injuries, and illnesses are part of every NBA team’s narrative. But for the 2017-18 Cavs, it’s felt as if everything has been compounding and exploding in spectacularly disastrous fashion around the greatest basketball player in the world, non-stop. LeBron is hellbent on getting his teammates through the Eastern Conference and back to the Finals, but the Cavaliers around him are crawling behind a marathon runner. Since 2011, June has been booked for Bron. We’re not ready for LeBron to spend his first few days of summer at home. Here’s why:

Instagram Photo

First of all, LeBron is playing as if he could die tomorrow. With twelve games to go, LeBron is ready to check one more box off of his career to-do list: 82 regular season games. In spite of his indestructibility, the King has never before played a truly full season (though if you include playoffs, he’s played between 85 and 100 games every year since age 21). It didn’t seem to be something he cared about, opting most noticeably last year to sit a handful of lesser essential games throughout the year in favor of scheduled rest. In 2016-17, LeBron missed eight games–seven were a DNP-Rest–ruffling a lot of feathers. So what changed his mind? Disappointed fans, the media circus, Adam Silver’s overdramatic declaration that rest is “an extremely significant issue for our league,” a positive uptick in LeBron’s wellness? It could be a combination of everything, but mostly, it looks like LeBron is just eager to show us that he’s doing it because he can.

Instagram Photo

We also need to pay attention to how obsessed LeBron is with self-care. We know he loves a cinnamon roll with a glass of rosé in the driveway, but his concern for wellbeing goes bone-deep. On March 19th, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst revisited the back ailment LeBron dealt with in his first season back with the Cavs. In 2015, “disc issues” requiring anti-inflammatory shots threatened to derail The King’s prime. Naturally, LeBron hired a personal biomechanist, former Navy SEAL Donnie Raimon. Working with Raimon and longtime trainer Mike Mancias, LeBron completely revamped his approach to strength and conditioning. This, along with eating right and making good use of home training facilities that would make any professional team blush, has done absolute wonders for the King. It’s truly mind-boggling.

Think about this for a minute, though. King James missed two full weeks of action in 2015, the longest stretch of downtime his career (knock on wood). His averages were down, and he often looked like he was suffering more than he was letting on. And yet, he managed to lead the Cavs to a competitive six-game Finals series against Golden State without Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, who were wiped out with their own season-ending injuries. Knowing what we know today, the 2015 Finals campaign has to rank up there with LeBron’s most impressive playoff runs.

The same night Windhorst’s story was published, the Cavs tipped off against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. The marquee game, featuring the King versus the kid who’s going to succeed him (at least according to Kevin Durant), was no letdown. Antetokounmpo racked up 37 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists: a stat line extraordinary on its own, yet entirely standard for Milwaukee’s 22-year-old superstar. Too normal, in fact, and somehow not enough to get the Bucks a win they desperately needed. The Bucks fell to the Cavs, 124-117, and Giannis had one question for himself postgame: “‘OK, what did I do wrong today guarding LeBron?'” LeBron didn’t just drop 40 on the Greek Freak–he recorded a triple-double of epic proportions, joining Elgin Baylor and Larry Bird as one of the three oldest players to record one with at least 40 points. Adding insult to Giannis’s injury, LeBron had been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week earlier that day for a record-shattering 60th time. Speaking to the media after the game, Bron said something he often reiterates: “I can always figure out a way to be a threat on the floor even if I’m not scoring.” It sounds simple enough, but no one can do it quite like LeBron James. Leaving Giannis dumbfounded by his dynamism, The King showed us he’s not anywhere near ready to concede the crown.

Instagram Photo

LeBron isn’t tired. He isn’t wearing down. Sure, he’ll take a play off here and there–he isn’t the uncompromising defender he once was. It can be frustrating to watch, but it pays off: LeBron’s conserving enough energy during games to have averaged a triple-double over the month of February. In the same month, he officially became the first player in NBA history to have accrued 30,000 points, 8,000 assists, and 8,000 rebounds. The pass-first small forward is climbing the all-time scoring list with embarrassing speed. Through March, LeBron is averaging 31 PPG, 9.2 APG, and 10.5 RPG, and while it might be too late for him to secure a year-long triple-double average, there’s no reason to think he won’t try it next year.

LeBron James isn’t finished putting together one of the greatest, most challenging NBA seasons of his life. We’ll see you in June, King.

While snow is never ideal — especially in the New York City area — the fact that this is likely winter’s last hurrah actually makes it enjoyable. It’s like a victory lap for humanity: “we’ve survived the winter, so give us all you got you big cold bitch because warmer days are around the corner.”

Top 5 Storylines Of The 2018 MLB Season

Baseball is just about to return. The crack of the bat, the sound of pitches hitting the catcher’s mitt, the smell of hot dogs in the air are all just a short week and a half away. With a new season though, comes new headlines that have the chance to be written over the 162-game voyage and for a few select clubs, the postseason. The excitement of new faces in new places, possible repeats, and maybe some new blood ready for primetime will make this MLB season hopefully as memorable as any in recent years. Here’s a peek at the five storylines to watch closely in Major League Baseball in 2018.

1. Are the Houston Astros set to repeat as champions?

Getty Images

There’s no doubt the Astros are built to repeat. Problem is, there hasn’t been a back-to-back World Series winner since the Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000. A lot of critics are have asked the question if the club’s hunger to win again is still there after winning the first title in franchise history

The core is still very much intact with reigning AL MVP Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa. Houston’s pitching staff is still one of the most dominant in the game with Dallas Keuchel, Justin Verlander, and Lance McCullers Jr. Adding star righty Gerrit Cole from the Pirates this offseason will only make that staff extremely harder to solve.

In the outfield and bullpen, the Astros are loaded with youth and veterans. Houston could have their hands full with an improving American League Central with a Minnesota Twins club being a playoff team a year ago, the dangerous Cleveland Indians, and two clubs in the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox who are both ready to contend once again. Despite that factor, until proven otherwise, the Astros will be the favorite to win it all again.

2. Will the New York Yankees bash their way to the World Series?

The Bombers came within one game of the Fall Classic last year, falling to the eventual champion Astros. After suffering that disappointment, they made it their goal to go out and prove once again the Evil Empire is back in full force. They traded for another superstar who can mash, the one they call Giancarlo.

In 2017, the Yankees hit 241 home runs as a team, the most of any team in the game. Now with Giancarlo Stanton in the mix with his bash brothers Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez, the Yanks are primed to shatter those numbers and beat teams into submission with the longball. But if it’s not those three, the crazy thing to believe is opposing pitchers and teams will have to deal with the underrated Didi Gregorius, and if healthy, Greg Bird.

It’s just plain scary to realize how much power the New York Yankees lineup has this season. The home run will be New York’s biggest weapon as they not only fight for the AL East crown but when they get into the postseason. They aren’t nicknamed the “Bombers” for nothing, and this year will be no different.

3. How will Shohei Otani fare in his first MLB season?

screenshot via MLB Network

Known as the Japanese Babe Ruth, the expectations are incredibly high for Otani. Being he is an excellent hitter and supreme pitcher, Otani wants to prove that he will be just as dominant in the States as he was in his native Japan. The Angels — who have missed the playoffs since 2014 — are depending on Otani and superstar Mike Trout to finally put the club back on the map.

Anytime a new player with hype makes it to the Bigs, the opposition will pay a close amount of attention to them, and Otani should see no difference. Another big thing to take into consideration, Otani is only 23 years of age. Many 23-year olds are still maturing and trying to find their place and in Major League Baseball and Otani’s case, how he progresses from the first few months into a full season will be must-see.

Otani will have eyes on him from his first at-bat and pitch he throws. It will be fun, and how he changes the Angels fortune will be what fans and pundits focus on the most.

4. Who will win the National League West?

The National League West could be the best division in baseball. In 2017, the division saw a major shift in power from the preceding years. But this year, it could be a fight from the first pitch in late March down to the final pitch in late September.

You have the defending NL champs in the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have arguably the best pitcher in the majors in Clayton Kershaw and one of the best hitting lineups. The Arizona Diamondbacks who despite losing catcher J.D. Martinez still have one of the top 1-2 pitching duos in the MLB in Zach Greinke and Robbie Ray. The San Francisco Giants reloaded in the offseason with Andrew McCutchen and Evan Longoria, while the Padres added Eric Hosmer and the Rockies young core is ready to make waves in the division.

Determining how this division will unfold is like trying to make a 7-10 split in bowling. It’s almost impossible. But you can say one thing, watching these teams battle all season long will be a treat for all baseball fans.

5. Will this be the last season of Bryce Harper in a Nationals uniform?

Getty Images

The rumblings have been heard for some time now about what Bryce Harper’s future will be. Heck, even that report about the $500 million dollar contract not too long ago doesn’t seem that ludicrous. Harper is in a contract season with the Nats and with the changes made around him and the organization, what will decide if he stays in Washington or takes the free agency route will be heard all year-long.

Harper, 25, was drafted number one overall in the 2010 MLB Draft and has been with the Nationals since making his debut in 2012. He’s put up monster numbers every season since his arrival and is a five-time All-Star and one-time NL MVP (2015). Where Harper has struggled and not been able to help the Nationals gets over the hump, is in the postseason. The consensus feeling is that if he and the club can’t finally do some damage if they make the postseason, that it could play a part in if he wants to commit long-term to keep playing in the nation’s capital.

Harper watch is going to be another enjoyable, yet intriguing situation. For Nationals fans, it’s going to be long, it’s going to be excruciating at points hearing all the hoopla about him possibly leaving, and it’s going to keep you wanting for more. There will be things to keep a keen eye on all season with Bryce Harper as there usually is, but his decision about his future trumps them all.

March Madness: Best Teams Heading Into The Sweet 16

This year’s NCAA tournament has been an absolute rollercoaster ride. The whirlwind of emotions for bracket lovers everywhere has been off the charts. Top teams were falling left and right during the first weekend of the tournament. If you are in a bracket pool, I’m sure you’re scratching your head as much as I am right now.

Let me give a quick rundown of the insanity that has occurred so far. First, let us take a long look at the South region. The seeds left in there are the 5, 7, 9, and 11. Not to pat myself on the back but I did have the 11 seed Loyola-Chicago in there, but to be honest, the praise stops there as every single one of my other picks in that region is out. The big names that have fallen thus far: UNC (defending champ), Michigan St., Virginia (victims of Sister Jean), Arizona, Xavier, and the list keeps growing.

So, out of all the Madness this March has provided us, who are the most impressive teams heading into the second weekend of the NCAA tournament?

3. Duke

Instagram Photo

The Blue Devils have been consistent and solid through their first two games of the tournament. They have it all from great guard play on the perimeter to undefendable size and talent with their bigs. In the round of 64, Duke took Iona down with ease winning by 22, with four of the five starters scoring over 16 points. In the round of 32 the victim this time was Rhode Island (won by 25), who was coming off an impressive win over Trey Young and Oklahoma. Duke’s starters again stuffed the stat sheet, all scoring in double digits.

With Marvin Bagley dominating through both games and guards Grayson Allen and Gary Trent Jr. controlling the perimeter, Duke will be a force to be reckoned with in the rest of this tournament. The only negative I have with this team is depth. Only two bench players have seen more than 10 min in either game, neither scoring over 6 points.

Up next: 11 seed Syracuse, March 23rd at 7 PM. Live stream here.

2. Villanova

Instagram Photo

Nova is one of two #1 seeds to survive the first weekend, the other being Kansas. Villanova has been as efficient as they come in their first two tournament games. The Wildcats shot nearly 60% from the field against Radford in a 26 point blowout. They followed up that performance by hitting 17 3’s while keeping Alabama star Colin Sexton in check for an 81-58 victory. Throughout the season Villanova has been the most complete and consistent team, and that has shown no signs of stopping.

Villanova has been lead by guards Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more formidable backcourt than the one Villanova trots out there. Brunson is tough to defend; he can beat you on the outside or take you down low. For his size 6-3, he has impressive footwork in the paint against larger defenders. The negative with Villanova, can they handle a more athletic team if matched up against one.

Up next: 5 seed West Virginia, March 23rd, 7:30 PM. Live stream here.

1. Texas A&M

Instagram Photo

Call me crazy for putting the Aggies number 1 here, but if you watched them in their two games, they look unbeatable. Texas A&M has so much size and talent no other team left in the tournament can match the type of ability they have. The athleticism this team has put on display has been highly impressive. Forward Robert Williams at 6-10 240 pounds is an absolute freak on the basketball court. He is a sure-fire NBA talent. I saw him sky for a rebound, collect it with one hand, and in mid-air passes the ball downcourt to start a fastbreak while facing his own basket, just incredible stuff. The size and talent continue with DJ Hogg 6-9 215 pounds and Tyler Davis 6-10 266 pounds. Along with two starting guards over 6-2, it resembles an NBA lineup.

I haven’t even mentioned the engine that makes this train go yet in guard TJ Starks. With all the size A&M bodes the offense and team go as the 6-2 freshman guard goes. Starks had 17 points against Providence and 21 points in a beatdown of the defending champions UNC. That 21 points came against a UNC backcourt that featured the Final Four MOP from last season Joel Barry. If Starks plays disciplined and does not get turnover prone, this Texas A&M team will be dancing all the way to the Final Four.

Up next: Michigan, March 22nd, 7:30 PM. Live stream here.

University of Missouri Fraternity Shut Down For Hazing & Alcohol Violations

The Columba chapter of the FarmHouse International Fraternity at the University of Missouri has been closed due to hazing and alcohol violations. The fraternity is the third to be closed at the school in the past year.

According to reports, the FarmHouse International Fraternity announced that the closure of the university’s FarmHouse chapter was in response to a joint investigation the fraternity conducted with the university into allegations of hazing and alcohol violations.

The fraternity’s official press release said the fraternity “will not tolerate this kind of behavior.”

via The Kansas City Star:

“Our top priority is to foster a culture of safety and responsibility in our chapters,” said Christian Wiggins, FarmHouse International Fraternity CEO, said in a statement released by the university. “The chapter’s actions, including failing to adhere to the national organization’s hazing and alcohol policies, were in direct contradiction to FarmHouse values and our code of conduct. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior in the fraternity, and we appreciate the university’s partnership as we have worked through the investigation and arrived at this conclusion.”

Investigation findings have been turned over to the Columbia Police Department as FarmHouse is not affiliated with university schools or colleges, a release said. Wiggins told The Star that the closing is not permanent, and that FarmHouse plans to return in fall 2020.

The closing comes after the Sigma Alpha Epsilon national headquarters announced it will close its University of Missouri chapter due to violations of health and safety standards for at least four years. Members were expected to move out of their chapter house by late last week. On March 8, the Interfraternity Council suspended new member activities for two weeks for its 29 chapters as the Office of Student Accountability and Support conducted multiple investigations of fraternities.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who were shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

Oklahoma City Thunder Squanders Another Win: Why Are They Like This?

Carmelo Anthony misses crucial free throws

NBA/YouTube

The Oklahoma City Thunder are a bewildering team. You have a reigning MVP in the second guy to ever average a triple-double for a season, a premier perimeter defender and three-point threat combo, a bonafide future Hall-of-Famer and professional scorer, the NBA’s best offensive rebounder and taller half of a terrifyingly effective pick-and-roll combo–and you can’t win when you’re up by six with a shot clock’s worth of time left in the game? ‘Tis the season for Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, and Steven Adams. They blew it again, this time in Boston.

The March 20th matchup between the Celtics and the Thunder was meant to be a good one. But with Kyrie Irving sidelined with a mystery knee injury, Jaylen Brown on extended concussion protocol, and Marcus Smart out with a potentially season-sealing thumb fracture, it looked like an easy game for OKC to grab and tack onto a six-game winning streak. But nothing has been easy for the Thunder this season: a troubling trend of offensive stagnation despite three offensive superstars, struggling down to the wire against sub-.500 teams, a disappointing bench, and a blindsiding injury to defensive glue guy Andre Roberson derailed high preseason expectations. The Western Conference playoff race is going to come down to game #82, as seven teams push themselves to their limits for seeds 4-8. Every game is crucial, especially for the inconsistent Thunder, who have the most difficult remaining regular season schedule out of anyone in the league. Of all their issues this season, perhaps the most severe issue has been their crunch time execution (or lack thereof). It was on full display at TD Garden.

Russ hits two free throws with 24.7 seconds remaining to put OKC up six, 98-92. Brad Stevens calls timeout and draws up a possession that materializes into Jayson Tatum moving too easily past Corey Brewer and Carmelo Anthony for a quick 2-for-1 layup.

Terry Rozier takes a foul on Russ, who splits the difference at the line. Rozier races up the court and drills a three, cutting the lead to two.

Melo is fouled with just over eight seconds left, and the career 81.2% free throw shooter misses both opportunities to put the win out of reach for Boston. Tatum secures the rebound. Brad Stevens, a master at drawing up plays coming out of a timeout, begins to design the lethal injection to OKC.

You could feel it coming. Kevin Garnett could feel it coming. The Thunder could probably feel it coming too. Unlikely hero Marcus Morris fakes out Paul George, gets the shot off over Steven Adams, and earns a 1-point lead for the Celtics with 1.2 seconds to go. It was over–Russ couldn’t even get a shot off before the buzzer. So we find ourselves asking the same old question about this Oklahoma City team. What the hell is wrong with them?

Something Is Very Wrong With Bills Receiver Zay Jones

Kids, file this one under “why you shouldn’t mess with serious drugs”, cause this is some disturbing stuff you’re about to see.

Zay Jones, a second-year wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills, is currently being held in the medical ward of L.A. County Jail after he allegedly tried to jump out of a 30th-floor window while naked. Furthermore, in the video obtained by TMZ Sports, Jones can be heard saying “I’m going to fight for Jesus.”

screenshot via TMZ

via TMZ:

TMZ Sports obtained this video of the crazy fight that went down Monday night in a downtown L.A. apartment building. Zay is stark raving nude while grappling with his brother — Cayleb Jones of the Vikings. You can hear Zay yelling, “I’m going to fight for Jesus” … and according to witnesses, Cayleb was trying to stop him from jumping out a 30th floor window.

Zay eventually broke free, and ran in the direction of Cayleb’s gf’s apartment … you can hear her screaming. We’re told at some point, he ran back out of the apartment, entered a public balcony area and smashed his foot through a window.

Photos from the scene show blood on the shattered window, and all over the floors and walls. Jones was the Bills’ 2nd round draft pick last year. According to law enforcement sources, he’s being held in the medical ward of L.A. County Jail. It’s unclear what his condition is at this point.

The Buffalo Bills commented on the matter, simply stating, “We are still in the process of gathering more information on the matter. At this point, we will have no further comment.”

Jones was seen looking healthy on social media a little over a month ago celebrating his teammate Jordan Poyer’s marriage to Instagram model Rachel Bush.

Top Major League Baseball Prospects 2018: Ten Potential Stars

$

screenshot via MLB Network

As Opening Day approaches, it’s become abundantly clear that there are several notable MLB franchises that are tanking in the hopes of bolstering their roster for the future to ultimately become World Series contenders. Considering what both the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros have done recently when it comes to acquiring and developing talented players, it makes all the sense in the world that teams such as the Tampa Bay Rays and the Miami Marlins would want to start from the ground up by allowing their top farm system athletes to play at the professional level. While this may not make for entertaining baseball initially, it is currently the best way for a given franchise to win consistently at some point in the future.

The following ten prospects could not only make an appearance in the majors this year but could also become the centerpieces for their respective teams that are looking to eventually establish themselves as championship contenders.

10. Forrest Whitley, RHP, Houston Astros

Instagram Photo

After getting off to a slow start in the minor leagues in 2016, Forrest Whitley came on strong in 2017 as he quickly advanced through the single A and double AA minor league systems. With a fastball that regularly gets into the mid and sometimes upper 90’s, Whitley effectively utilizes his size and arm strength to frustrate opportunistic batters.

9. Bo Bichette, 2B, Toronto Blue Jays

Instagram Photo

With a keen eye for hitting the baseball and getting on base (.362 BA, .432 OBP in the minors), Bo Bichette will most likely be called up by the Blue Jays to contribute sooner rather than later. Although Bichette’s ideal in field position is as a shortstop, his athleticism and quickness could allow him to be situated as either a second baseman or a speedy left fielder.

8. Fernando Tatis Jr., SS, San Diego Padres

Instagram Photo

A tenacious slugger that can get on base consistently (posted an OPS of .877 in the minor leagues last season), Tatis is equally adept at stealing bases, an attribute which has been sorely lacking in the majors the last couple of years. Considering the Padres’ lack of notable talent in the majors currently, Tatis could be the spark that the ailing franchise needs to finally become relevant in the NL West.

7. Nick Senzel, 3B, Cincinnati Reds

Instagram Photo

If you can play third base as well as Nick Senzel can while posting exceptional numbers offensively (.321 BA,.391 OBP, .541 SLG), your chances of becoming a major league superstar would be bright. If he can decrease his elevated strikeout rate, Senzel could feasibly become the everyday third base starter for the Reds at some point this season.

6. Victor Robles, OF, Washington Nationals

Instagram Photo

If Victor Robles finishes out Spring Training on a high note, he could very well replace Michael Taylor at centerfield by Opening Day. Considering how strong his fielding skills are combined with his ability to get on base consistently (.395 OBP in minors last season), Robles appears destined to be apart of Washington’s new look outfield sooner rather than later.

5. Gleyber Torres, SS, New York Yankees

Healthy and eager to make his MLB debut this season for the high powered New York Yankees, Gleyber Torres has the ideal arm strength and throwing accuracy to be an adept infielder. Posting a perfect fielding percentage during his time in AA Trenton in 2017, Torres has the tools both offensively and defensively to be the starting second baseman for the Yankees this season.

4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B, Toronto Blue Jays

Posting a batting average of .316 and an on-base percentage of .409 in single-A Lansing in 2017, Guerrero Jr. has a keen eye when it comes to consistently making contact with the baseball. Although it’s doubtful that he’ll supplant Josh Donaldson at third base this year, all signs are pointing to the young corner infielder being a prominent part of the Blue Jays for the foreseeable future.

3. Eloy Jimenez, RF, Chicago White Sox

If this guy can post the same eye-popping numbers that he did in the minors last year, it’s hard to imagine the White Sox keeping Eloy Jimenez off of the Opening Day roster. Although Spring Training means little to nothing when projecting major league talent, it’s hard to ignore Jimenez’s stunning OPS of 2.381 over a four-game stretch thus far this spring.

2. Ronald Acuna, OF, Atlanta Braves

Winner of the Minor League Player of The Year Award in 2017, Acuna appears to be the real deal for a Braves organization that is looking to build around their youthful starting rotation. Hitting .325/.414/.639 during his time in the Arizona Fall League, Acuna should be all but assured a place as a starting outfielder for the Braves next year if not this year.

1. Shohei Ohtani, RHP/DH, Los Angeles Angels

While the dual-threat wunderkind as not looked especially electric in Spring Training this year, Shohei Ohtani promises to be the most compelling athlete to join the majors in a long time. Although it’s unlikely that Ohtani will start the season as a pitcher for the Angles, he should be able to contribute immensely as a designated hitter for the Angels given his beautiful swing and underrated power-hitting abilities.
