Austin Eggleston Video: Full Story & Must-See Details

Full Story

YouTube/ABC 7

When a young Star Wars fan, Austin Eggleston, a 15-year-old student struggling with multiple congenital heart defects, was in need of a new heart, his doctor decided to make the news that a new heart was found all the more special, something that would be immortalized the following viral video. I don’t want to spoil what happens, but it obviously has something to do with Star Wars. Watch it below!

What happened in the video itself?

While waiting at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Austin’s doctor, Philip Thrush, arranged for him to learn the good news that a new heart had been found from the mouths of Chewbacca himself! As seen in the above video, Austin was waiting in the hospital on St. Patrick’s Day, not thinking anything special was going to happen to him, even on the holiday.

Once he sees that a Wookie has come to meet him, he gives a double high five and even does a little dance. In fact, he gets so excited that the doctors have to warn him that he has to be careful not to rip off his life support equipment. He even ends the video giving his doctor a hug to thank him.

What happens now?

First things first, The Charlotte Observer confirmed that Austin has recovered from the heart transplant and is currently doing well.

Stories like this remind us that what goes around comes around, since Austin is not just someone who likes his movies, but also someone who knows the importance movies and their characters have cheering up children like himself; he previously asked Marvel on his own Twitter account if they could have a showing of Avengers: Infinity War at Lurie Children’s Hospital for other children to watch:

“@Marvel As someone waiting for a heart transplant how many retweets do I need to get a showing of Avengers Infinity war shown to the children at @LurieChildrens Chicago who may not be able to see it in theaters. Please @Marvel as someone who loves you guys I want this! #Avengers”

Of course, now that he has his new heart, he issued the following Twitter update:

“Nevermind guys I finally got my heart after 4 months of waiting, but everyone else would still like to see it @Marvel”

Austin’s mom, Mary Anglin, told ABC 7, that what really made her little Star Wars fan happy was that he was getting a second chance at life:

“To see him knowing that he has a chance at life, that he has a chance to achieve so many things leaves you speechless.”

“He will make sure that he does remarkable things because of it.”

Five March Madness 2018 Teams To Watch In The Sweet 16

This year’s NCAA tournament has been fraught with unpredictable drama and historic upsets. For the first time in the history of the sport, a sixteen seed in UMBC bombed threes and defeated a panicked University of Virginia one seed by twenty points. The likely first or second overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, DeAndre Ayton, saw his heavily favored University of Arizona lose in humiliating fashion to the University of Buffalo. And though both UMBC and Buffalo humbly bowed out in the second round, there remain a number of ‘Cinderellas’ looking to advance to the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas — especially in the South Region, where all of the top-four seeds have been eliminated.

Here are the surprise teams to keep an eye on in the Sweet Sixteen.

Loyola Chicago

Instagram Photo

A darling on social media thanks to their two stirring buzzer beaters in rounds one and two, as well as their 98-year-old nun superfan Sister Jean, Loyola Chicago has erupted onto the college basketball scene this tournament. Coached by basketball journeyman Porter Moser, the retrievers win on offensive/defensive balance and swinging drive and kick ball movement. Their floor leader is junior Clayton Custer, who began his career at Iowa State, transferring to the Chicago Catholic school after his freshman year. Custer averages 13.3 points a game and 4.2 assists and hit the epic pullup midrange game-winner in round 2 against Tennesse. Other notable players are senior guard Dante Ingram, junior guard Marques Townes, senior forward Aundre Jackson and freshman big man Cameron Krutwig, all of whom average double digits in scoring.

They play the next team on this list Thursday night at 7:07. They are one of two eleven seeds in the sweet sixteen.

Nevada

Instagram Photo

A distinctive feature on the Nevada Wolf Pack is that they are led by a pair of twins, Cody and Caleb Martin, who transferred over from NC State after two seasons there. The Martins’ score 32.8 points per game combined, 11.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists. Naturally, given that they are identical twins, it can be difficult to tell them apart. Cody tends to be more of a facilitator while Caleb looks to score. The brothers, however, are not the only stars on the team. Junior guard Jordan Caroline scores 17.7 points a game and grabs 8.7 rebounds. There is no shortage of offense on the Wolf Pack. Famed college basketball statistician has them as the sixth best offense in the country, ahead of storied programs like UNC, Kentucky and Gonzaga.

It is safe to say that they were under-seeded as a mere seven seed, proving the committee wrong on their exciting run.

Kansas State

Instagram Photo

The eighth-seeded Wildcats are coached by college basketball veteran Bruce Weber, who most famously took an undefeated Illinois team in 2005 all the way to the national championship game before losing to a loaded UNC team. Weber finds himself once again in the sweet sixteen with a slow, methodical, defensive Kansas State team that squeaked by Creighton and sixteen seed UMBC in rounds one and two, respectively. Their best players are a pair of high scoring junior guards in Barry Brown and Dean Wade, each averaging over 16 points a game.

They will play fifth-seeded Kentucky on Thursday night at 9:37.

Syracuse

Instagram Photo

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is at once legendary and polarizing. A husband of controversy and purveyor of quiet bravado, Boeheim is the type of coach one either loves or hates. This years team, going into the tournament, was one of his most unheralded. Lacking star-power, the Orange won on grit through slow, deliberate offensive play and the iconic 2-3 zone. They are not a deep team, with the top three players, sophomore guard Tyus Battle, freshman forward Oshae Brissett and junior guard Franklin Howard eating up court-time and leading the nation in minutes played. They’ve had to play three tournament games to get here, defeating Arizona State in their First Four play-in game, upsetting six seed TCU in round one and stunning national championship hopeful Michigan State on Sunday.

They are the second eleven seed remaining and play goliath Duke on Friday at 9:37.

Florida State

Instagram Photo

Our final Cinderella team is on a redemption mission. Stocked with NBA talent in the 2017 NCAA tournament, FSU underwhelmed with a second-round exit at the hands of eleven seeded Xavier. With Jonathan Isaac and Dwayne Bacon on to bigger and better things professionally, the Seminoles are scrappier and more cohesive. As opposed to last year, where underclassman Isaac and Bacon led the way, it is three upper-classman who lead the team, in senior forward Phil Cofer, senior guard Braian Angola-Rodas and junior guard Terance Mann. They avenged last year’s Xavier loss on Sunday, upsetting the one seed 75-70.  Coach Leonard Hamilton has been with FSU for 16 years, and is hoping now is finally the time he breaks through and makes a final four.

FSU plays last year’s runner-up Gonzaga at 9:59 on Thursday night.

MLB Predictions 2018: Projecting The AL Central Standings

Although you could easily view the AL Central as the Cleveland Indians to lose, the competitively uninspired division actually offers much more intrigue than you would initially think. For starters, the Minnesota Twins were incredibly tactful yet relentless when it came to pursuing free agents such as starting pitchers Lance Lynn (3.43 ERA last season) and Jake Odorizzi (4.14 ERA last season). While the Chicago White Sox can hardly be expected to compete for the division this year, their talent-laden farm system led by the prospect Eloy Jimenez could slowly begin to emerge onto the White Sox’s major league roster sooner rather than later. In a sport where it takes 162 games to decide the regular season definitively, anything can happen and the Indians would do well to realize that nothing is given and that they will need to prove themselves to be the World Series contenders that they have been over the last couple of seasons.

5. Detroit Tigers

Instagram Photo

With a new manager at the helm in Ron Gardenhire combined with a relatively youthful roster that will most likely have to struggle through some growing pains this year, the Tigers will view this season as a rebuilding one. Even with veterans such as Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and Jordan Zimmerman who will provide the necessary leadership and, to a degree, production to help their young teammates develop smoothly, the Tigers no longer have the consummate star power that they have had in years past. It may be a grueling season for the fans and players of the Tigers, but at least this organization has the requisite pieces to eventually allow this organization to be competitive again in the near future.

4. Chicago White Sox

Instagram Photo

Entering their second season of rebuilding, the Chicago White Sox can be expected to bring up more of their intriguing young talent to the majors to give fans at least a modicum of hope for the future. Even if the White Sox bevy of exciting prospects fail to completely pan out this season, at least first baseman Jose Abreu can provide a few sparks here and there to keep things interesting for what will most likely be another underwhelming season. If the starting pitching can be slightly less dismal than it was last year (the White Sox best starter that had 12 starts or more posted an ERA of 4.15), the White Sox may actually be able to avoid finishing last in the division this season.

3. Kansas City Royals

Instagram Photo

Although the Royals were not especially active during the offseason, they were at least able to reacquire the third baseman Mike Moustakas and signed former All-Star starting pitcher Clay Buchholz. In a season where several teams appear to be tanking shamelessly, the Royals are at least attempting to reload their roster rather than blow it all up and start from scratch. While the loss of Eric Hosmer to the San Diego Padres definitely stings as the first baseman provided the majority of Kansas City’s offensive production, they at least have an adequate starting rotation that could take a step in the right direction if Danny Duffy can build off his solid success from 2017.

2. Cleveland Indians

Instagram Photo

While it may be blasphemous to suggest that the loaded Cleveland Indians will finish anywhere but first in the AL Central this year, their once dominant starting rotation was actually less than impressive last season. Of their five starting pitchers that started in 21 games or more only two had ERA’s under 4 in 2017 (Corey Kluber: 2.25, Carlos Carrasco: 3.29). Losing Carlos Santana to the Phillies will detract somewhat from the Indians power hitting abilities, something that this team will still need to rely on if they hope to get on base consistently in 2018.

1. Minnesota Twins

Instagram Photo

Thanks to their persistence and intelligence when it came to acquiring impressive free agents at a discounted price, the Twins (at least on paper) were able to go from an intriguing wild card contender to serious competitors for a division title. While the additions of starting pitchers Lance Lynn and Jake Odorizzi will go a long way in strengthening the back end of their starting rotation, the addition of Logan Morrison will help immensely in allowing the Twins offense to take a promising step towards being fairly prolific in 2018.

Ricky Williams Gets Into The Marijuana Business — Legally

Former NFL player Ricky Williams is back in the news again for marijuana. This will not shock anyone who has even remotely followed the career of Williams. But, this time around he’s not smoking it but promoting the launch of his new cannabis-based wellness company.

I can’t think of a more obvious progression into the next career for Ricky Williams. If there is one thing he has made clear through his time in the spotlight, it’s that he LOVES weed. He famously retired from the NFL early in his career for multiple failed drug tests. During the short retirement stint, he went on to study holistic medicine at the California College of Ayurveda.

It has been well chronicled throughout his career that Williams has battled with anxiety and depression. He has publicly stated many times his desire to educate people on the medicinal benefits marijuana has had on him when dealing with his mental health issues. On his website, Williams claims his company is a natural extension of his work as a holistic healer.

“Cannabis has played an important part in my healing journey, and I feel a responsibility to share what I have learned in the process.” – Ricky Williams

The products RW sells is broken up into three categories Solutions, Everyday, and Sport. Solutions are vape cartridges that provide immediate help for specific issues. Everyday is for problems that are reoccurring and need daily treatment. Finally, Sport is to help the body heal quicker from physical activity. All the products contain either CBD, THC, or both. RW claims that its THC products contain a lower amount of the compound, so if you were looking to get Cheech and Chong high that probably won’t be the case with his products.

To recap the last 20+ years of Ricky Williams life: Heisman Trophy winner, top 5 NFL draft pick, All-Pro running back, advocate for mental health, and a holistic healer selling his marijuana products. Now, that’s what I call a revolutionary.

Zay Jones Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Zay Worth?

0
0

Isaiah “Zay” Jones, 22, is an NFL wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills and played college football at East Carolina. Jones is the all-time NCAA Division I career receptions leader with 399, as well as the all-time NCAA Division I single-season receptions leader with 158. Jones was in the news recently for having a bizarre meltdown which ended in an arrest. Que TMZ for some graphic footage…

Zay Jones Net Worth As Of 2018: $4 Million

Zay Jones’ total contract is worth $6.78 million over four years. In 2018, on the second year of his rookie contract, he’s expected to pull in $1.54 million.

Early Years

Instagram Photo

Jones was born on March 30, 1995 in Dallas,Texas, the son of Robert Jones, a former football player who spent ten years in the NFL, and Maneesha Jones. He has two brothers, Cayleb and Levi. Cayleb also plays in the NFL as a WR and is supposedly the other man in the above video that is in an altercation with Zay.

Zay Jones attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas. He committed to East Carolina University to play college football.

2013-2016

Instagram Photo

Zay wasted no time in making a name for himself at ECU. His freshman year he finished with 62 catches, 604 yds, and 5 tds. Each year he built up each of his stats until he peaked with a record-breaking senior year performance. In Jones last year of eligibility, he had 158 rec (NCAA D1 single-season record), 1,746 yds, and 8 tds. NFL scouts and experts took notice. He was ranked the fourth best wide receiver in the draft by NFL analyst Mike Mayock, the fifth best wide receiver by ESPN, and was ranked the sixth best wide receiver by Sports Illustrated and NFLDraftScout.com.

2017-Present

Instagram Photo

The Buffalo Bills selected Jones in the second round (37th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. On May 18, the Bills signed Jones to a four-year, $6.77 million contract with $3.84 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $3.07 million. In his first season with the Bills, Jones played in 15 games and started 10. He finished with 316 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately for Zay, he fell victim to the offseason curse. More often than not for athletes, no news is good news when you’re not playing. As of today, “Zay Jones” has become a household name, and not because he found the end zone twice last season.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Cast Expands: Who Are Captain Marvel & The Silver Surfer?

Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel Studios

As if we thought the Marvel Cinematic Universe couldn’t get any bigger before Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27, 2018, the Russo brothers dropped a major bombshell that can undoubtedly change the odds in our heroes favor! With just over a month before the release date, this is the longest of any Marvel film to date with a runtime exceeding 150 minutes. There is official casting for both Captain Marvel and Silver Surfer, with statements from the directors [loosely] confirming character presence in the first installment of Infinity War – which can simply just mean a post credit scene, let’s not be too greedy! Does this movie need more characters, you may ask?

Let’s see who they are and what they bring to the table and I’ll let you be the judge if you want them on your team when war is upon us.

Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers

Captain Marvel

ING/Marvel

Academy Award winner Brie Larson will star as Captain Marvel, a former Air Force pilot, C.I.A. agent, and overall feminist badass. While her standalone film, that premieres next year, will take place during the 1990s, her role and age in Infinity War are less concerning than her overall abilities. During her time in secret ops, she was held captive and formed a unique relationship with a Kree spy, Mar-Vell, with whom some of his abilities are transferred to her when he sacrifices his life on her behalf. Fun fact, Mar-Vell will be played by Jude Law… possibly in blue body paint.

What Are Her Abilities?

Captain Marvel

ING/Marvel

This traumatic experience left Carol with residual Kree skills such as superhuman strength, endurance, stamina, flight, physical durability, a precognitive “seventh sense” and a perfectly amalgamated human/Kree physiology that renders her resistant to most toxins and poisons. Also, she is immune to most heat and can absorb energy and return it back in photonic form – similar to how Black Panther’s vibranium suit can blast back any hits taken. Oh, did I mention she can survive in space, too? It might be simpler to think of her as the ‘alien Captain America’ since the two characters share a stern sense or morality and both are born leaders in their own right.

With Carol’s human/Kree physiology, this can pose a huge threat to the Black Order and even the Mad Titan himself. The challenge posed now in Avengers: Infinity War has these cosmic entities of evil facing off against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Maybe a little Kree can go a long way!

Silver Surfer aka Norrin Radd

Avengers Infinity War Silver Surfer actor Curt Clendenin

Avengers Infinity War Silver Surfer actor Curt Clendenin

While he made an appearance in the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) the film was not well received despite a strong performance from Doug Jones in motion capture, voiced by Lawrence Fishburne. This iteration of Silver Surfer hopefully will have more depth and ties with the next phase of Marvel films. Norrin became the Silver Surfer when his world was facing annihilation at the hands of Galactus, a being who literally consumes planets, by offering himself as a herald finding new worlds for consumption so that Galactus would spare his homeworld in return.

What stood out when hearing this casting confirmation was the actor that was cast to portray Silver Surfer.

Let’s introduce Curt Clendenin, a man most known for as portraying “Miscellaneous Crew”. To be fair, his work behind the scenes and small roles can make him an excellent choice for a role entirely portrayed in motion capture. While everyone is speculating whether or not Peter Dinklage is playing a dwarf or Pip the Troll, the answer could have been right in front of us: the commanding voice of Silver Surfer! But hey, that’s just my opinion since I would truly hate for Marvel to be so heavy-handed handing the dwarf role to Dinklage.

What Are His Abilities?

WENN

Credit: WENN

The Silver Surfer can navigate through interstellar space, travel through different dimensions, and possesses superhuman strength, endurance, and senses, as well as the ability to absorb and manipulate the universe’s ambient energy for himself. Also, he has the ability to manipulate matter, heal people, cast illusions, and exceed the speed of light making him capable of time travel. These seem like a nice bag of tricks to fight off a Mad Titan and his armies. When basic human strength and heroism fall flat, the Silver Surfer is no stranger to battle as well as sacrificing himself for the salvation of others.

Fun fact, the Silver Surfer’s big bad boss Galactus has a long-standing conflict with Thanos. Hopefully this is something we will see in the second installment of Infinity War, but one key comic arc is that Silver Surfer eventually teams up with Adam Warlock (whom we saw being created in the post-credit scene in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 by Ayesha, high priestess of the Sovereign) to dismantle the Infinity Gauntlet once fully assembled by Thanos. Fingers crossed that if Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can’t get the job done… the ones from outer space can!

What I find most fascinating about this news break so near to the film’s release is how close to the vest Marvel is able to hold the upper hand and always remain in control of the narrative. It’s extremely impressive for such a massive studio that employs thousands of individuals globally. Now, after learning more about these enhanced superheroes, I’m ready to welcome them to the team with open arms if it means half the universe has a shot of survival.

With these new arrivals, whether it be a small scene, a shadowy figure in the post-credits, or even us having to wait until the second Infinity War installment, what I do know is this just elevated the playing field for the next phase and I for one cannot wait to get my tickets.

Five Rule Changes That Would Immediately Improve Soccer

0
0

Instagram Photo

Since its start in 1863, soccer has undergone many rule changes and additions. There once existed a time where the sport had no crossbars, no corner kicks, and no referees. In an unfathomable world, there was actually a point where the goalkeeper was allowed to use his hands anywhere on the field– not just in the 18-yard box.

However, though the game we all know today has become wildly recognized and holds the title of being the most popular sport in the world with an estimated 3.5 billion fans, it still has room for improvements. Therefore here are five rules that can further enhance the beloved sport.

Stop Time When the Ball is Not in Play

This would result in preventing players from wasting time and also ensure that the viewers get a full 90 minutes of soccer. There are so many situations where a player will take their good ole sweet time throwing in the ball or walking off the field during a substitution as to run the clock since their team is in the lead. Goalkeepers are notorious culprits for wasting time whether it be setting up a goal kick or standing in the 18-yard box with the ball at their feet waiting until an attacker from the other team puts on pressure. Whatever the case may be, the halves should be a mandatory 45 minutes of play.

Only Captains Can Speak to the Referee

Instagram Photo

There are moments in the game when players can get out of hand or crowd the ref with anger and insults after disagreeing with a call. During these situations, the captain should be the only one responsible for speaking with the ref. It avoids confusion, chaos, and establishes an overall better form of communication on the field.

Required Post-Match Referee Interviews

The referee has a lot of responsibility in dictating the outcome of a game. In doing so, the referee makes many calls which can result in much questioning and controversy. Instead of leaving the match confused and angry with commentators speculating over what the referee was thinking, just ask. This allows the referee the opportunity to defend or explain his/her decision and it also provides the players, coaches, and supporters with an answer.

No Punishment for Celebrating

Instagram Photo

Goals do not occur that often in soccer, so when they do it’s a reason to celebrate. Unfortunately, an excessive celebration including a player taking off their shirt can result in an immediate yellow card. However, players celebrating their goal not only amps their team up, but it also excites and engages the crowd more. It creates an overall exhilarating atmosphere that unites the cheering supporters with the players.

Increase the Number of Substitutions

Instagram Photo

Under FIFA’s laws, there are only allowed three substitutions per game, but if this number were increased a more interesting match could ensue. Instead of having tired players towards the end of the game, the additional subs would provide fresh legs and therefore, a quicker paced game. Not only that, but it allows the coach to have more control over the game in terms of team performance. This rule would also lead to more bench players being able to get field time.

The rules of soccer have and will continue to change. With the additional use of technology including, goal-line technology and video assistant referee (VAR), the future of soccer is being viewed with new and different perspectives. Despite the inevitable changes, the full-spirited fans, devoted coaches, and tenacious players allow the core of the game to persist.

Top MLB Free Agents Still Available And Where They May End Up

0
0

So far this off-season we’ve seen Yu Darvish go to the Cubs, Jake Arrieta make a surprise signing with the Phils, and the Angels win the battle for the highly anticipated Japenese prospect, Shohei Ohtani. We have one week ’till opening day on March 29th and a few big-name free agents are still up for the taking.

Many teams think these FAs have a bigger name (and salary expectation) than they deserve, which is why they’re still on the board. Regardless, as opening day approaches, teams and players will become more willing to settle and sign the dotted lines. There’s certainly potential for some last minute fireworks (maybe sparklers?) so let’s explore the unsigned notables and where they may end up this season.

Jose Bautista

Instagram Photo

Some have speculated that the 37-year-old, who is coming off a rough year, has his eyes on a team that isn’t in Toronto. The Tampa Bay Times reports Joey Bats is “keenly interested” in joining the Rays. Not only does Bautista live in Tampa, but they’re also in the AL East with the Blue Jays. So as Jose approaches retirement, he would play in Toronto several times each year and get a hero’s welcome.

Jayson Werth

Instagram Photo

The mountain man Werth, 38, is another aging unsigned player with plenty of history in the league. His next team may be his forever home, and what better team to finish with than where it all started – in Philadelphia. There hasn’t been much chatter about Werth’s landing spot this offseason, but some think he may head back to the Phils, where he’s been greeted with a consistent shower of boos ever since he left in 2011. Werth has said he’s embraced the jeers and would welcome the possibility of returning to the team where he won a World Series in ’08.

Melky Cabrera

Instagram Photo

At the youthful age of 33, Melky is one of the youngest on our list of big name, remaining (and aging) FAs. He was also one of the few to have one of his best statistical seasons last year. In 2017, he finished with a .285 BA with 17 homers and .746 OPS in 156 games. With the Pirates losing their stud outfielder in Andrew McCutchen, many think Melky would be a decent fit to fill that major void.

Andre Ethier

Instagram Photo

It’ll be weird for Dodgers fans to see Ethier wearing another team’s pinstripes this season. The outfielder has spent all 12 years of his MLB career in Los Angeles, but the team bought out the rest of his contract this past November and announced they will not be resigning him. TBD on where he ends up, but he has made it very clear he has no intention of retiring.

John Lackey

Instagram Photo

John Lackey, 39, plans to pitch in 2018. He’s just not sure where though. He had an impressive 30 starts for the Cubs last year but finished with a 12-12 record and his second-lowest ERA in 12 seasons at 4.59. He was also notably not a member of the Cubs’ postseason rotation after posting a 9.82 ERA in his final three appearances. So far teams haven’t been too receptive to the grizzled vet, but now that the top four free agent pitchers are off the market – Yu Darvish, Jake Arrieta, Lance Lynn and Alex Cobb – maybe that will help open some doors.

Here are some other notable unsigned free agents to keep an eye on as the season approaches:

  • Matt Holliday
  • Matt Reynolds
  • Ubaldo Jimenez
  • Matt Garza
  • Brandon Phillips
  • Huston Street
  • Carlos Ruiz … Bring CHOOCH back to Philly so I can fall in love all over again
  • R.A. Dickey
  • Greg Holland
  • Yunel Escobar
  • Seth Smith
  • Trevor Rosenthal
  • Rajai Davis

What’s not to love?

WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

“The Queen” Charlotte Flair might just lose control of the throne at WrestleMania. Flair has dominated the women’s division ever since she stepped foot in a WWE ring, from the small arenas at NXT to the huge venues of Raw, SmackDown Live, and pay-per-views. But she has never faced a competitor quite like “The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka who is undefeated and seemingly unstoppable.

Asuka’s title aspirations may be in jeopardy in New Orleans. But she’s made it this far, with the longest undefeated streak in WWE history. Will she may able to topple “The Queens”? Let take a look and see…

Triple threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship: The Miz (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

Both Finn Balor and Seth Rollins are incredibly over with the fans, any one of them would make a great Intercontinental Champion. But none bring the drama like The Miz. He’s “The Hollywood A-Lister” for a reason, and an automatic heat magnet with the fans. He’s a cowardly, yet cunning champion who will squeak his way to victory with or without his Miztourage at ringside.

If Rollins wins this triple threat match than he’ll become a Grand Slam Champion. If Balor wins he’ll pull himself out of the rut he’s been in since relinquishing the WWE Universal Championship in August 2016. But if The Miz wins, he’ll continue his reign with the goal of topping Pedro Morales for most combined days as Intercontinental Champion.

A title change would be overshadowed by the other events at WrestleMania. Let’s give this victory to a sneaky Miz.

Triple threat match for the WWE United States Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE

Randy Orton has only been United States Champion for a blink of an eye, do you really think WWE will take the title off of him so soon? “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal is looking to make WrestleMania his rise back to superstar supremacy, but does he really need the U.S. Championship? My answer is…

Yes, give the title to Mahal, but not yet. Orton’s has high star power and brings much-needed attention back to the U.S. Championship. So, why make him a transitional champion when you can use him to revive that mid card title in the same vein as John Cena’s U.S. Title reign two years ago?

And is Bobby Roode really over with the fans or is it just his “Glorious” theme song? Would it be too soon to turn him heel at this point in his career? It can be a slow build from his frustrations and disappointments with losing the U.S. Championship and not being able to regain it.

WrestleMania will once again bode well for “The Viper.”

Both men have fought hard through a long and grueling tournament to make it to the finals at WrestleMania 34. Only one will walk away as champion at the end of the night. Will it be Cedric Alexander or Mustafa Ali?

Cedric Alexander is an incredible high-flying athlete who would be the highlight of any pay-per-view as champion. But…so would Mustafa Ali. Both men are so evenly matched and very gifted crusierweights.

But Alexander has greater name-recognition over Ali, even though that recognition was earned while having a very awkward feud with Alicia Fox and Noam Dar. Should Alexander be rewarded for his part in that lukewarm feud, no matter how bland he seemed in comparison to the ridiculous couple?

This match could go either way. But I’m going with…

Cedric Alexander defeats Mustafa Ali to become the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion

Singles match for the WWE Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles promised “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura that he’d eventually avenge his loss from their match at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 10. Will Styles make up for that loss at WrestleMania 34? Or is it time for Nakamura to stand tall with the greatest prize in the pro wrestling industry?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Nakamura came up short in this match since he hasn’t received much promotion on WWE television since winning the Royal Rumble match in January. Meanwhile, the spotlight has been focused firmly on AJ Styles as the standard bearer of SmackDown Live.

But Styles appears to be suffering from an injury and it’s about time for “The King of Strong Style” Nakamura to reign supreme in the WWE. This win will catapult Nakamura to the forefront of WWE’s New Era. I predict that Styles will eventually win the title back from Nakamura at this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view.

WWE Raw Women’s Championship match: Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

“The Goddess” Alexa Bliss will be nothing but a mortal woman when she goes toe-to-toe with “The Irresistible Force” Nia Jax. Bliss has really pissed off Jax by talking smack behind her back. Now, it appears as if her days at the top of the division are numbered.

Nia Jax’s victory will be for the big girls who feel overlooked by the pretty ones like “Little Miss” Bliss. Jax also needs this victory to prove that she’s not some goof who is big for nothing and loses every big match.

Bliss may deserve the spotlight for all the hard work she put into the women’s division of both Raw and SmackDown. But she can’t carry the division all by herself. She’ll need a strong, formidable opponent to help. Nia Jax is the woman for the job and the wrestler who will likely walk away as champion.

Singles match for the WWE Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

“The Big Dog” Roman Reigns has a lot to prove; he hasn’t won a world title in nearly two years and failed to defeat Lesnar at WrestleMania 31, a match that eventually morphed into a triple threat match that was won by Seth Rollins. But at this year’s WrestleMania, there isn’t anyone with a Money In The Bank briefcase to screw up Roman’s chances of victory. On this night, it will just be “The Big Dog” and “The Beast Incarnate” going head-to-head in a WrestleMania blockbuster that’s three years in the making.

Both men have defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Who’s the better wrestler of the two? That’s up for debate, but if WWE wants to solidify Roman Reigns as the real top dog of the industry than he will need to overcome a true beast on the grandest stage of them all.

Mixed tag team match: Triple H & Stephanie McMahon vs. Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE.com

“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey isn’t just a celebrity thrown into a WrestleMania match like the Snooki’s or Mr. T’s or year’s past. Rousey appears to be in it for the long haul. She’s hoping to become a full-fledged WWE superstar and will start off her pro wrestling career on the grandest stage possible: WrestleMania.

But is Triple H and Stephanie McMahon really winning to take a loss, especially at WrestleMania? Triple H is world famous for his golden shovel and Stephanie’s character can be a glory hog as well. But when it comes to what’s best for business, both professionals are willing to sacrifice their pride for the betterment of the company.

Plus, it’s going to be sweet to watch Triple H and Kurt Angle go at it once again. If you were alive and watching wrestling in the year 2000 than you probably remember the love triangle between Angle, Triple H, and Stephanie. I wonder if they will light an old flame at WrestleMania 34.

WrestleMania 34: Predictions, Analysis & Full Preview

WWE

Ronda had been getting really roughed up during her last matches with UFC, but I see a future in WWE full of pure dominance for the “rowdy” one. I predict future encounters with the likes of Asuka, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, and Nia Jax.

It’s time to get rowdy with Ronda!

WrestleMania 34 Match Card

All classes and college-related activities at Diablo Valley College’s Pleasant Hill campus canceled today while officials investigate “potentially serious threat.”

On the school’s website, the school issued the alert in all capital letters, but the threat was not explained in detail. The school said that the closure was made as a “precaution.”

While all Pleasant Hill classes have been canceled, all classes at the San Ramon location will continue as scheduled.

New ‘Deadpool 2’ Trailer Alert !!!

Fox

A little over a month after the release of the first full-length trailer for Deadpool 2, the second trailer has dropped, giving fans their best look at Deadpool, Cable & the gang yet.

Two years ago, Ryan Reynolds & Fox released Deadpool onto the world — a superhero film unlike anything that had come before it, Deadpool breathed new life into the comic book film industry with it’s comedy, self-awareness, and R rating. In fact, the original Deadpool was so hilarious, that some people consider it more of a comedy than an action film.

And now, luckily for us, the sequel seems to be more of what made the original such a success.

A not-so-serious synopsis of Deadpool 2, via YouTube:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Also, this is just f*cking excellent:

Fox

While I’m as hyped for Deadpool 2 as the next guy, I just can’t help but think it was a huge missed opportunity not naming it something like “Deadpooler”, “Deadpool: The Sequel” or “Deadpool Number Two”.

Deadpool 2 is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Deadpool, distributed by 20th Century Fox.

It is intended to be the eleventh installment in the X-Men film series and a sequel to the 2016 film Deadpool. The film is being directed by David Leitch from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Ryan Reynolds starring in the title role alongside Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, Zazie Beetz, Josh Brolin, and Jack Kesy.

Deadpool 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 18, 2018.

Frank Avruch Cause Of Death: How Did ‘Bozo The Clown’ Die?

0
0

Frank Avruch, who gained fame playing the character, Bozo the Clown, becoming the character’s first nationally-syndicated incarnation, passed away at the age of 89 after a long battle with heart disease this past Tuesday, as confirmed by his family. Over the years, Avruch had a career in television that lasted around 40 years.

What happened?

As mentioned, Avruch’s passing had been confirmed by his family; Avruch is believed to be survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, Matthew and Steven, and several grandchildren.

Most famously, Avruch played Bozo the Clown from 1959 until 1970. In addition, a longtime WCVB-TV personality, he had been a fixture on television for over 40 years, serving as a contributor for Good Day and a host for The Great Entertainment and Man About Town; added to that, he also worked in radio.

According to TMZ, after Avruch left the role, the character was taken over by performer Larry Harmon, who passed away in 2008. According to Newsweek, international incarnations of the character also came to be in countries like Mexico, Greece and Brazil. According to KTVL, the character was originally portrayed by his creator, Pinto Colvig, in 1949. As the Associated Press confirmed, however, Avruch’s incarnation of the character became the first nationally-syndicated Bozo the Clown.

In a statement with the Associated Press, manager Stuart Hersh issued the following condolences:

“He had a heart of gold…He brought the Bozo the Clown character to life better than anyone else’s portrayal of Bozo the Clown.”

“He touched so many people with his portrayal.”

What was Frank Avruch’s official cause of death?

At this time, an official cause of death for Avruch has not been released.

As this story is developing, more information will be updated as made available.

Will Or Won’t The Pittsburgh Penguins Repeat As Stanley Cup Champions in 2018?

Will they or won’t they? That’s the question so many NHL fans, not just of the Penguins are asking themselves. Will the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are led by Sydney Crosby, successfully make it to the Stanley Cup for the third time? Right now as the playoffs rapidly approach, it’s looking like the end of their season could go either way. Here are some reasons why the Penguins might/might not pull it off.

Why The Penguins Might Pull It Off:

  1. The thing to remember here is, it’s not over till it’s over. With nine regular-season games left to go before the playoffs, the Penguins still have room for slip-ups. But knowing their Captian Sidney Crosby, he would never let that happen! Have you seen his moves on the ice? Is there anything Crosby can’t do?
  2. The Penguins currently hold a 2nd place spot in the Metropolitan Division, right behind the Washington Capitals. After the team’s devastating 4-1 loss to the Islanders on March 20th, hopefully, their game on March 21st against the Montreal Canadiens proves just what kind take no prisoners mindset the Penguins are currently in.
  3. Crosby has assured not only his team but the fans as well, he will do whatever it takes to help make this three-peat win for the Penguins a reality. Evgeni Malkin along with Phil Kessel really stepped up their skills this season as well. This definitely helped alleviate some of the noticeable pressure on Sidney Crosby, which allowed him to really focus on improving his team for the final stretch.
  4. The Penguins new head coach Mike Sullivan has just the competitive edge this team needs to pull this miracle off. His coaching style has led them through an unbelievable regular season so far, let’s see if it helps them get to the playoffs!

Why The Penguins Might Not Be Able to Pull it Off:

  1. The Pittsburgh Penguins have won the Stanley Cup Championship back-to-back, in 2016 & 2017. They are the first team to pull this off since my beloved Detriot Red Wings won back-to-back titles in 1997 and 1998. If the Penguins are able to pull off the impossible task of a three-peat win this year, that would be a miracle on ice in itself. That alone would automatically make them the second best to the New York Islanders who pulled off four Stanley Cup wins in a row from 1980-83.
  2. The Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray was out nine games with a concussion, this already altered their chances without him on the ice to protect them.
  3. The fact that a three-peat is within their reach puts far more pressure on the Penguins to pull this chance at true greatness off. Not mention the fact that they lost their top favored goalie Marc-Andre Fleury to the Las Vegas Golden Knights. I’m not picking favorites here, but I do occasionally sport my Fleury Golden Knights jersey proudly.
  4. Crosby’s having an unusually rough season, with his 5-on-5 shooting percentage dropping below 10 percent. This is causing a majority of fans to have their doubts. Especially after his unbelievable 2016-17 season in which he scored 26 goals at 5-on-5.

These reasons alone could prove to either help or hurt the Pittsburgh Penguins as their chance at the Stanley Cup is within their grasp yet again. With a Captain as unbelievable and renown as Sidney Crosby, I do believe it is possible. But the Penguins still have nine games left to go in their regular season, before the playoffs become a reality for them once again. So it’s still anyone’s game boys!

As long as this team stays focused on their ultimate goal of a legendary three-peat win, it’s looking like this could prove to be one of the most pivotal years of hockey yet for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sacramento Police Release Video Of 22-Year-Old Stephon Clark Being Killed By Police

Stephon Alonzo Clark, 22, was shot and killed by Sacramento police in his grandparents’ backyard on Sunday, March 18.  Police claim they thought Clark was holding a gun, however, he was merely holding his cell phone. 20 shots were fired in total.

On Wednesday, March 21, the Sacramento Police Department released the video footage of Clark’s death. According to reports, police were responding to a call about a suspect who had broken into several vehicles and was hiding in a backyard. The SPD said the black male suspect was seen breaking into at least three vehicles in the neighbor and was later seen breaking into a home.

The body camera video released by Sacramento police shows two officers firing 20 shots at Clark. The officers can be heard asking Clark to show his hands before yelling “gun, gun, gun” and proceeding to fire.

Warning: the below footage can be considered graphic & disturbing. Viewer discretion advised.

via USA Today:

The police department also released video Wednesday from a Sacramento Sheriff’s Department helicopter. Neither the body camera videos nor the helicopter video clearly depict what the man was doing in the moments before the police fired. The man turned out to be holding a cellphone and no gun was found.

“Based on the videos alone, I cannot second guess the split-second decisions of our officers and I’m not going to do that,” Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said in a statement. “The investigation must be completed. We need more information in addition to the video before we can render any final conclusions.”

The shooting happened in the backyard of the man’s grandparents’ home, where he was staying, after police said he refused orders to stop and show his hands. Thompson said she was inside her home Sunday when she heard gunshots coming from her backyard.

However, she never thought those bullets were going toward her grandson. It wasn’t until several hours later that Thompson said a detective came to her door and asked to see photos of her grandchildren.

The Sacramento Police Department did not say how many times Clark was hit and the coroner’s office would not release further information until Clark’s family was notified. The SPD said the two officers — who have yet to be identified — have been with Sacramento police for two and four years, but each has four years’ previous experience with other law enforcement agencies. Both officers have be placed on paid administrative leave.

Clark leaves behind a girlfriend, Salena Manni, and two children, Aiden and Ciaro.

Arkansas police have launched a dragnet Wednesday for a psychologist and patient who left the Arkansas State Hospital without permission earlier this week, also issuing an arrest warrant for the psychologist, Michelle Messer, who is accused of taking the patient, Cory Chapin.

What happened?

According to surveillance video from this past Tuesday, Messer could be seen using her access to the hospital’s forensic unit and walking Chapin outside of the hospital. According to the Associated Press, Messer is wanted on a misdemeanor charge of aiding an unauthorized departure; the hospital also confirmed that she will be terminated from her job once she is located.

At this time, it is unclear what the exact relationship between Messer and Chapin is. According to Arkansas Online, their Facebook pages showed that Messer’s account was used to post comments on Chapin’s page.

Chapin has been the responsibility of the Human Services Department since late 2015 after he had been acquitted of charges of attempted kidnapping and theft due to reasons of insanity or mental deficit.

Who is Michelle Messer?

Messer maintained her own website, Arkansas Creative Behavioral Therapy, where she described her services as follows:

“I have modeled my practice and services after such a worthwhile mission. I am helping families connect in health ways and through loving hearts. Let me help you and your family begin more positive living and better functioning. I will assist you as you increase your successes in building resilient, healthier connections.”

On her website, Messer claimed to have gotten a master’s degree in clinical psychology in Georgia in 2002; she had been trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, with 13 years of experience providing treatment to patients with psychiatric disorders.

According to Arkansas Online, an unidentified man at her residence refused to let Messer’s partner, Judith Lewis, speak to the press.

LSU Bans Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Until 2033

Louisiana State University has banned the Phi Delta Theta fraternity until 2033 after the alleged hazing death of freshman student Max Gruver.

According to reports, LSU rescinded the fraternity’s registration until December 31, 2032. The school will not consider a request for reinstatement until January 1, 2033.

Gruver, an 18-year-old LSU freshman from Roswell, Georgia, died on Thursday, September 14, after he was found with a BAC of .495 percent. Gruver, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, was forced to chug 190-proof liquor at a fraternity event the night before.

via The Advocate:

In February, LSU President F. King Alexander announced that LSU students caught hazing will be expelled and the involved fraternities or student organizations will be kicked off campus.

Six students who were arrested for hazing Gruver last September in the Phi Delta Theta house were still currently enrolled at LSU last month. Three of the students were no longer enrolled, LSU confirmed at the time. But an LSU spokesman, citing student privacy laws, would not say whether students were expelled, cleared or still awaiting adjudication.

Gruver’s parents are advocating a change to state law that would increase the fines and jail time for hazing charges, especially in the case of death. The anti-hazing bill passed the House Administration of Criminal Justice committee on Wednesday.

Last week, Sean-Paul Gott, 21, Ryan Isto, 19, and Patrick Forde, 21, were indicted on a misdemeanor charge of hazing. The misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to a maximum of 30 days in jail. A fourth student, Matthew Alexander Naquin, was indicted on a felony negligent homicide charge. That charge is punishable by up to five years in prison.

In February, LSU President F. King Alexander said that future hazing incidents will result in expulsion and further penalties.

UMich Player Who Survived 2 Plane Crashes Returns To Sweet 16 As Student-Coach

Former University of Michigan basketball player Austin Hatch, now a student assistant coach for the Wolverines, is heading to the Sweet Sixteen as a student coach, and while a lot of athletes endure a lot to get to their position in life, Hatch has certainly known struggle in life, surviving two plane crashes that claimed the lives of different members of his immediate family both times, as well as having to learn to walk again after being in a coma.

Hatch survived two different plane crashes that both claimed the lives of his loved ones

Instagram Photo

In 2003, when he was eight years old, Hatch and his father, Stephen, survived a plane crash that claimed the lives of his mother, Julie, 11-year-old sister, Lindsay, and five-year-old brother, Ian. Hatch believes that he survived the tragedy because of his father, who piloted the plane, as he threw him from the wreckage; Hatch also attributed his father with helping him endure the emotional trauma caused by the crash.

Unfortunately, tragedy would strike again in 2011, shortly more than a week after Hatch earned a scholarship with the University of Michigan, with another plane crash, that claimed the life of his father and stepmother, Kimberly. While Hatch survived the crash, he was left in a medically-induced coma with brain trauma among other injuries, such as a punctured lung, fractured ribs and a broken collarbone. At the time, doctors worried that Hatch would be confined to a bed for the rest of his life, meaning that he would need to learn how to walk and talk again.

The school still honored his scholarship after he recovered

Instagram Photo

Eventually, however, Hatch learned to walk again and was taken in by an uncle and moved to Los Angeles, where he finished high school. In 2013, the University of Michigan honored his scholarship, allowing him to join the Wolverines.

According to The Detroit News, Michigan coach John Beilein issued the following statement describing what it was like seeing Hatch recover firsthand:

“When the NCAA allowed me to go see him when he was finally out of the coma — the last time I saw him he was one of the best sophomores in the country, without question.”

“He reminded me of a young Wally Szczerbiak. He was tremendous. He played a great team and dominated them. And now I see him and he doesn’t weigh 210, he weighs like 140 now. He can’t eat a sandwich and can hardly walk. He can move like six inches at a time when he walks.

“When you see that and then you see this (today) — his family and his fiancée, Abby, it makes your heart warm. If we’ve been a small part of his life, it’s tremendous. He’s been a huge part of my life and this team’s life.”

According to the same publication, Hatch himself described how grateful he was to the school:

“They always say the measure of a man is how he treats someone he can’t repay.”

“I’ll never be able to repay Coach Beilein and his staff, but I’m extremely grateful and I’ve done very best to show my appreciation by how I approach everyone here.”

After a year playing for the team, it was decided between Hatch and Beilein that he should focus on his studies and was hired by the team as a student assistant. Hatch will graduate from Michigan this year and walk down the aisle with his fiancee, Abby Cole, who he proposed to last may.

According to MGoBlue, Hatch had the following to say about the new love in his life:

“Abby is the reason I’m still here…I really believe that.”

“Given everything that’s happened — it’s been horrific, tragic, I’ve lost so much,” said Hatch. “But sometimes I have to look in the mirror and say, ‘Do you really have it this good?’ With all the great people I have in my life: Abigail, her family, my family, all my friends, Coach (John) Beilein, the rest of the staff, everyone here. It’s hard to believe.”

“If you would’ve told me six and a half years ago when I was in a hospital and couldn’t walk that I would be getting ready to graduate from Michigan, that I was getting married to the woman of the dreams, that I would’ve had an incredible experience in four years at Michigan … If you would’ve told me that, I’d have been like, ‘You’re crazy.’ I’m here to tell you it’s been better than I even could’ve imagined.”

RECAP: ‘Krypton’ Episode 1: Must-See Review Of The Premiere

Krypton Episode 1 review

We all know the sad story of Superman’s home planet Krypton, one that has chilling parallels to our planet’s very real climate crisis today. Despite its notoriety, relatively little information on the Kryptonian’s culture and history have been revealed. But this is all about to change.

Syfy’s ‘Krypton’ is giving us a glimpse into the planet’s past, two generations before the birth of Superman (or Kal-El, his Kryptonian birth name). The protagonist is his grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) who struggles to earn back the honor of the House of El, find a way to be with the woman he loves and to save his world for the sake of his future grandson.

Krypton Episode 1 Viewing Details

Date: Wednesday, March 21, 2018
Time: 10:00 P.M. EST
Episode Title: Piot
TV Channel: SyFy

Kandor City

The pilot begins 14 years before the rest of the series, with the trial and execution of El patriarch Van-El. The scene hints at a recent and drastic regime change, apparently grounded in religion. A masked figure called The Voice of Rao (Krypton’s primary deity) silently presides over all court scenes and seems to be the foremost authority of Kandor City.

Kandor City is founded on a caste system, with noble houses, guilds, and the swarms of ‘Rankless’ citizens that eke out a living in the lower alleys and streets. The Rankless seem to have few rights compared to the rest of the populace and suffer regular harassment from law enforcers and a strict curfew. Seg-El manuevers through this world like he was born to it, only to suddenly get an offer of advancement from one of the men most responsible for his House’s dissolution and grandfather’s death, Daron-Vex (Elliot Cowan).

The House of Zod

Jayna and Lyta of House Zod

The House of Zod leads the warrior guild, with the infamous General Zod’s great-grandmother Jayna-Zodd (Ann Ogbomo ) and grandmother Lyta-Zod (Georgina Campbell) at its forefront. Lyta is also in a star-crossed relationship with Seg even as unfolding events seem to strain or even threaten the end of their relationship.

Adam Strange

As Seg faces trial after trial, he encounters the time-displaced Adam Strange, who warns him of an enemy approaching Krypton to change the future and gives him the key to Van-El’s Fortress of Solitude. Using one of Superman’s capes to gauge changes to the past, he enlists Seg to finish his grandfather’s work and defend his planet and future grandson against the villain Brainiac.

Adam shows Seg his grandson’s cape

The episode ends with Seg at a crossroads; his entire family and legacy have been destroyed before his eyes, yet he has received not only a chance to redeem himself but proof from the future of his success.

The Good

Krypton is ultimately an enjoyable show that requires little to no pre-existing knowledge of Superman or DC comics. While set in a fairly typical futuristic dystopia, elements such as the Voice of Rao, decent special effects and the excitement of learning more about Superman’s homeworld add intrigue and leave you wanting more. Aside from the near-constant presence of the iconic S-shaped Crest of the House of El, the seasoned DC fan can spy inspirations taken from comics such as John Byrne and Mike Mignola’s The World of Krypton and the prologue in Man of Steel (2013).

The Bad

The show could have easily done, however, without the time-travel and Adam Strange plot. His quest to save Superman and gain the help of Seg ultimately distracts from the greater narrative and Kryptonian culture. Future episodes would do well to better integrate the plots in future episodes.
