March Madness 2018: What To Expect In The National Title Game

Through all of the chaos that has permeated throughout the NCAA Tournament this postseason, it has all been efficiently and entertainingly reduced into a National Title game that is represented by two elite programs. Incredibly, this year, the College Basketball Finale will feature two teams that do not possess a single one-and-done athlete, an aspect that is relatively unusual amongst the blue-chip programs of this sport. Better still, Michigan and Villanova play two very divergent styles of basketball, with the Wolverines being a defensive oriented team while the Wildcats consistently make their hay by shooting relentlessly and accurately from the three-point line. Going into this contest, Michigan will be under an immense amount of pressure as the Wolverines have failed to bring home a National Title in their previous three appearances in the Championship Game. For the Wildcats, it’s all about further elevating the cache of head coach Jay Wright, a cerebral basketball leader who would make a strong case for becoming a Hall-Of-Famer with his second National Title win in three years.

For Michigan To Win…

Instagram Photo

For the Wolverines to end up being the unexpected victors by the end of the night, their destiny will be predicated on one simple thing: guarding the perimeter aggressively and exceptionally. If the way the Wolverines smothered the Ramblers in the Final Four is any indication of what Michigan’s defense is capable of, the Wildcats will have a tremendously difficult time at finding a comfortable rhythm offensively. Holding the Ramblers to shooting just 10% from three-point range while garnering ten steals, the Wolverines were incredibly tenacious at not only preventing Loyola-Chicago from taking high percentage shots but were also especially adept at disrupting the Ramblers usually efficient ball facilitators, particularly in the second half. Offensively, the Wolverines will need to be the scoring force that shot 58.3% from three-point range against Texas A&M in the Sweet Sixteen, rather than the team that shot just 25% from beyond the arch.

For Villanova To Win…

Instagram Photo

In an age where perimeter shooting is all the rage, the Wildcats have fully embraced this modern competitive philosophy and have executed it to perfection throughout the regular and postseason. Against the offensively adept Kansas Jayhawks, the Wildcats made it a point to shoot the long ball early and often as they shot 40 three-pointers while making 45% of them throughout the contest. However, equally impressive to the Wildcats shooting capabilities are their unselfish athletes that possess the instincts and patients to find their open shooters on a consistent basis (20 assists against Kansas). Although the Wildcats do not have the defensive juggernauts that the Wolverines possess, they do have the size to block shots and attack the opposing glass fairly consistently. If the Wildcats are able to do what they have done in the tournament from a shooting perspective against the Wolverines, Michigan’s hopes of winning it all for the first time in the history of their program will be over before the contest truly gets started.

And The Winner Is…

Instagram Photo

Villanova. While there is more to being a great basketball program than just shooting the basketball, the Wildcats have made this tactic click practically uninterrupted with successful results. Even when the Wildcats struggled to shoot the basketball against Texas Tech in the Elite Eight, Villanova was able to revert to a grittier style of basketball by relentlessly attacking the defensive boards with their sizeable athletes. Although the Wolverines have a zealous big man in Moritz Wagner that can defend the rim and work the low the post with relative ease, Michigan has looked fairly inconsistent when it comes to shooting the basketball from mid to long range. While their defense is unquestionably elite and capable of making adjustments in-game with impressive results, it becomes fair to wonder if the Wolverines have the depth and sustainable tenacity to keep up with the fast-paced shooting of the well-coached Wildcats. In the end, as the Wildcats have done throughout this season, their prolific shooters will ultimately find a way to pull away from a Michigan program that is enticingly gritty yet lacks the well-balanced nature to contend with a highly talented opponent.

Emily Jackson, a 22-year-old YouTuber, was denied entry onto a Disney cruise because she was pregnant. Jackson was then escorted off of the cruise by a guard with an AR-15 rifle. Jackson is a mother-of-two who is currently pregnant with a boy. Jackson, her husband, children, parents, and siblings flew from St. Louis to Miami for the cruise.

According to reports, Jackson was barred from the cruise because she was 25 weeks pregnant, which is one week past Disney’s policy limit. The cruise line does not allow expecting mothers past 24 weeks on board.

While Jackson had a doctor’s note saying she was safe to travel, the Disney Cruise Line website reads that “Neither a doctor’s medical statement nor a waiver of liability will be accepted. In addition, Disney Cruise Line cannot be held responsible or liable for any complications relating to pregnancy at any stage.”

via Miami Herald:

Jackson, who is 25 weeks along, tweeted about her traumatizing travel experience.

The St. Louis woman, 22, flew to Miami for the cruise with nine other family members, but when she got to the terminal, she was refused passage because Disney Cruise Lines does not allow women over 24 weeks pregnant onboard due to safety concerns. Then she and her brood were told to leave. When Jackson’s father objected, video shows armed guards getting involved.

Disney has yet to respond to a request for comment.

Bryan then celebrated with both world titles high overhead as fans went wild inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

These Subway Strangers Passing A Joint Will Give You Hope That Humanity Is Worth Saving

When Earth and the species that inhabit it are on the brink of extinction, these are the types of videos that will make the highlight reel of humanity. Just a bunch of strangers, sitting around on a train getting high and sharing a laugh. Black, white, brown — none of that mattered in the moment — all that mattered was they were all heading somewhere, albeit separate ways, but still enjoyed the moment together. So when the nuclear apocalypse is upon us, you can likely find me watching this video as a reminder of what humanity once was.

Now, my first thought was, “But Eric, what if this is a Training Day scenario where that pot just so happens to be laced with PCP. But who has time for that type of negativity? Not me, that’s for sure. So I stuffed that evil initial reaction away & made up my mind: these strangers are smoking weed & weed only and are having the time of their life doing so.

My favorite part of this is the woman because you can tell she does it strictly for the story. When she’s offered a hit, she has this glorious expression of “eh, f*ck it, why not?”:

Most times, New York City subways are the tubular equivalents of hell, but on those rare moments where humanity’s light shines through, they can be glorious.

Top 10 Most Ridiculous College Application Questions Ever Asked

College can be an experience full of discovery, new beginnings, and lasting friendships. But it can also be a place full of strange questions, wild rhetoric, awkward acquaintances, and well-meaning (though at times, cringe-worthy) institutional indoctrination. Educators and parents alike attempt to shape the minds of young, growing pupils before they are sent out into the cold, cold world. Colleges can be places of higher learning as well as a place where some get high while learning, and judging by some of these questions (it appears this isn’t only the case for students).

Ever see a question on a test or an essay prompt that has you scratching your head? Ever wonder, did I really just read that? That’s probably what these students thought after reading the top 10 weirdest university questions on the web…

10. Tufts University Wants To Know If It’s Easy Being Green

You can say that Tufts University is playing into the game of identity politics with this question. The university posed an application essay prompt for their students, using Sesame Street‘s Kermit the Frog as the basis for the question, particularly the famed frog’s skin color.

The essay prompt said, “Kermit the Frog famously lamented, ‘It’s not easy being green.’ Do you agree?”

Well, do you agree? Green is a color associated with wealth, envy, balance, spring, rebirth, and more.

9. John Hopkins University Asks Applicants To Go Full-Blown MacGyver

Instagram Photo

MacGyver is a TV show popularized in the mid ’80s and early ’90s, and revived in 2016. The series revolves around a secret agent named Angus “Mac” MacGyver who has an impeccable knack for problem-solving; figuring a way to resolve complex issues with an array of common household items.

John Hopkins University asks students in an application essay to think in a way similar to MacGyver in order to solve a problem. The essay prompt said, “Using a piece of wire, a Hopkins car window sticker, an egg carton, and any inexpensive hardware store item, create something that would solve a problem. Tell us about your creation, but don’t worry; we won’t require proof that it works!”

8. Cambridge University Gets Cheesy

And yet, you probably thought the only cheesy person here was the author. But I assure you, there are others like me, some even get to ask questions at Cambridge University.

One interview question from Cambridge University asks vet science students, “Is the moon made out of cheese?”

In the film, A Grand Day Out With Wallace & Gromit, both main characters travel to the moon to eat some delicious cheese. But Wallace is just munching on moon rocks. Definitely not something to spread on a cracker.

7. University of Chicago Is Searching For Waldo Too

Instagram Photo

Who hasn’t gone through a Where’s Waldo? book or two as a child? I must have a bunch of those books hidden somewhere, probably collecting dust in the closet like many of my other cherished childhood memories. I may go looking for those books one day and will be probably be itching with dust mites afterwards.

Now, it appears as if the University of Chicago is looking for Waldo as well. In one essay prompt question, they ask students, “So where is Waldo, really?”

You can really go anywhere with that question. Literally.

6. Cambridge University’s Question Involves A Huge (Ridiculous ) Leap

COED's Guide To Crazy College: Top 10 Weirdest University Questions

Shutterstock

Usually when you hear a college asking their students to take a huge leap, the assumption is that they’re posing a metaphorical question. For example, a student’s transition to the workforce may be a “huge leap” from the classroom.

Cambridge University poses an interview question for their engineering students, asking what would happen if they literally took the largest leap possible into a dark abyss. The questions asks, “What would happen if you drilled through the Earth all the way to the other side and then jumped into the hole?”

This is an even bigger leap than the one in the stock photo above. By far.

5. Oxford University Asks Students, What Would Happen If The Only Recorded History We Have Involves Sports And Nothing Else?

COED's Guide To Crazy College: Top 10 Weirdest University Questions

Shutterstock

Imagine if the records of the past was a clear slate except when it comes to sports. All the rest has been erased or not recorded for whatever reason. Is that what happens when fake news takes control of the world and the only thing you can trust is sports stats? Sounds like something from an Alex Jones Infowars video…

COED's Guide To Crazy College: Top 10 Weirdest University Questions

Oxford University posed the question, “Imagine we had no records about the past at all, except everything to do with sports – how much of the past could we find out about?”

If we only had info relating to sports history than the four food groups would likely be arranged according to a football game: potato chips, beer, dip, and hot wings.

4. St. Mary’s College of Maryland Asks Incoming Students To Send In An Audition Tape

Imagine if being accepted into college was like getting a role on MTV’s The Real World or The Jersey Shore (now The Floribama Shore). Well, St. Mary’s College of Maryland asked students to send in a tape to audition for a spot for the incoming semester.

The description for the assignment read, “St. Mary’s College is casting for the incoming class. Send us your audition tape via the Web or DVD. Please provide us with the site for posting. Selection of this option will stand as your college essay. Consider your audience.”

What type of audition tape would you send? Would you show an exaggerated, wild personality like an MTV audition tape and troll the people watching? Or would you make a tape appropriate for the college experience (whatever that means)?

3. Cambridge University Asks Law Students About A Breakfast-Related Divorce

Would you divorce your wife/husband over some annoying habit they had at the dinner table? Could it be the way they ate? Or what they ate?

Cambridge University queries law students with a hypothetical scenario, asking, “If a wife had expressed distaste for it previously, would her husband’s habit of putting marmalade in his egg at breakfast be grounds for divorce?”

What would it take for you to leave your significant other? Marmalade in an egg? Probably not.

2. Cambridge University Asks Students To Ponder If They Were A Grapefruit And Whether They’d Want Seeds Or Not

Seriously, what is there to gain by asking their students if what type of grapefruit they’d like to be? How does that question help them grow as a person? Colleges these days…

Cambridge University asked medical students, “If I were a grapefruit, would I rather be seedless or non-seedless?”

Does it even matter? You’re a grapefruit. What can you do if you’re a grapefruit? Well, at least if you have seeds you can possibly sprout a grapefruit tree, creating many, many fruity offsprings.

1. Michigan State University Asks Students Some Very NSFW Questions (Sexually Explicit)

Now, it’s time for our number one weirdest university question! Well, really it’s more like seven questions combined into one wacky segment. Michigan State University recently sent out a survey to their students that have raised some serious eyebrows, among other things.

Campus Reform released a snippet of the survey offered to the students from Michigan State University. How ridiculous are these questions? Well, one had a yes or no question on whether or not that student has gagged on a penis or vis versa. I sh*t you not.

Here’s a look at the screenshot from Campus Reform:

COED's Guide To Crazy College: Top 10 Weirdest University Questions

Campus Reform

Other questions ask whether or not you had ejaculated on someone’s face or vis versa. More questions involve whether the student had “danced/stripped” in front of others for entertainment or whether they had kissed someone of the same “sex/gender” in order to entertain an audience.

The duration of this survey is roughly a half hour.

“When I found out about the survey sent out at MSU I was laughing because I thought it was a joke,” said MSU Student Chrissy Clark who took the survey. “I first saw it on barstool MSU, which is an Instagram that parodies college students. I thought that it might be an extra credit opportunity for a student research assistant but it was a serious survey sent out to students to understand sexual assault issues on campus.”

Wow. Just wow. What else will they be asking these students?

Who Really Is the NHL MVP In 2017-18?

Shutterstock

Boy did this hockey season fly by in a hurry. It’s now the final week of the year for many NHL clubs, while a select group will be gearing up for a run at hockey’s holy grail, the Stanley Cup. But as the season has gone on, three players, in particular, have put their team’s on their back and have played head and shoulders above the rest of the talent pool the league has to offer. The MVP Award (Hart Trophy) won’t have another name added to its legacy until late June, but the three individuals listed below have all made their case for why the honor of being called the league’s Most Valuable Player should be theirs. Let’s take a look.

Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid, last year’s Hart Trophy winner, is looking to become the first back-to-back winner of the award since Alex Ovechkin, who won it two years a row in 2008 and 2009. McDavid had a slow start to this season despite still being in the top-15 in points through the seasons first few months. All of this while his team, the Edmonton Oilers, could never find their footing and fell to the back of the pack in the Western Conference.  The Oilers captain has also been the driving force on offense for Edmonton all season long. So much so, that he is going to most likely finish with 30 to 35 points more than the second-best point producer on the team, Leon Draisaitl.

Why Connor McDavid could go back-to-back, is his surreal second half of the season. No forward in the NHL has produced more points since the All-Star break than McDavid. McDavid’s 1.30 points per game average is the best in the league and he is going to finish in the top five in both goals and assists.  What also could push McDavid is he’s basically been a one-man show in Edmonton. On such an offensively challenged team, McDavid having another 100-point season is utterly staggering.

The Oilers will miss the postseason this year, but it shouldn’t damper what McDavid has accomplished this season. Setting another career-high in points, notching a 40-plus goal season, and just showing why he is the best player in the league from after the quarter-point of the season, proves why McDavid winning his second straight MVP award will be extremely deserved.

Evgeni Malkin

It’s not very surprising that Evgeni Malkin’s name is in the talk for MVP as the regular season comes to a close. Malkin — who is only six years removed from winning his first Hart Trophy — has been at the forefront of the Pittsburgh Penguins surge since the middle of the year, leading to yet another postseason birth. Other than Connor McDavid, no one in the league has been on a tear more than Malkin and no one has been scarier to oppose than him. The 31-year olds numbers this season are his most since his Hart-winning season in 2011-12.

Usually riding shotgun next to fellow superstar Sidney Crosby, Malkin has taken the reins and eclipsed Crosby as the Penguins best player and most consistent point producer all season long. In the middle months of this season, Evgeni Malkin was arguably the best player in the league.  His numbers in the month of January (12-7-19) and February (10-11-21) were fantastic. Those numbers got Malkin recognition, as he received NHL Three Star of the Month honors for both those months. Adding to Malkin’s MVP case is he’s produced the second 40-plus goal season of his career and he will most likely finish in the top five in players with the most goals in the league.

It will be worth-watching how Malkin performs in the postseason after a sensational regular season. If the Penguins are going to three-peat as Cup champions, they can look back at the job Evgeni Malkin did this season and the MVP caliber style he solidified all year.

Nathan MacKinnon

For the season Nathan MacKinnon has manufactured — along with his club, the Colorado Avalanche — being in the conversation for MVP is well warranted. A former Calder Trophy winner in 2014, MacKinnon has gotten better production wise over the past few seasons. But this year, MacKinnon has found a whole new level and has moved into the upper echelon with some of the games best players. His absurd numbers have not only put him in an elite company, but they have been the force behind the Avalanche’s miraculous turnaround from a season ago, where they were the worst team in the league.

MacKinnon’s assault to the top started back in early November when teammate Matt Duchene was shipped to Ottawa. After that trade, MacKinnon took it upon himself to step up in Duchene’s place as the team’s top forward. In November, MacKinnon was the best player of the month tallying 20 points in 12 games. In the middle months, as the Avs really shot their way up the standings, MacKinnon quietly continued to produce at a high-rate, and in the process go on to set career-highs in goals, assists, and points in his career. Even just a month ago, he scored 22 points in 15 games, leading the playoff push for Colorado.

With how quickly the Avalanche have returned to prominence, MacKinnon leading the way could be an excellent debate for why he should win the Hart. But for him to go from 53 points a season ago to over 90 and possibly 100 this year, is just unheard of and what an MVP player does.

Over the course of one year, Cardi B has gone from relative unknown rapper to arguably one of the most recognizable recording artists in the world. Ever since the release of her now-iconic “Bodak Yellow” single, Cardi B has risen to become one of the most successful rappers — male, female, or otherwise — in the world.

Cardi B is famously from the Bronx, where she first began in a career as an exotic dancer before receiving public attention as she built a large social media. Thanks to her internet fame, Cardi B joined the cast of the VH1 reality TV series Love & Hip Hop: New York.

In 2017, following Love & Hip Hop: New York. Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar, signed her first major label record deal with Atlantic Records. Her debut single for Atlantic, titled “Bodak Yellow”, reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, with the New York Times calling it “the rap anthem of the summer” in 2017.

In December of 2017, the second single from her debut album, “Bartier Cardi”, was released, followed by her feature on Bruno Mars’ remix version of “Finesse” in early 2018. Cardi B’s first studio album, Invasion of Privacy, will be released on Friday, April 6.

At just 25-years-old with an infectious enthusiasm and legitimately skills on the mic, we expect Cardi B to be topping the charts for some time.

3 Dead MCU Characters Returning For ‘Captain Marvel’

Production is officially underway for the highly anticipated addition to the MCU, Captain Marvel, set to release March 8, 2019, and with it comes some familiar (and dead) faces! We know that this film will take place in the 1990s, so it’s an added bonus to bring back some of those heroes and villains that bit the dust in more recent films.

Let’s kick this list off with everyone’s favorite Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D!

Clark Gregg aka Phil Coulson

WENN

WENN

We saw in The Avengers (2012) that while Nick Fury might be the brains behind S.H.I.E.L.D, Agent Phil Coulson is without a doubt the heart. So much so, he literally took an Infinity Stone infused scepter through that heart, courtesy of Loki, leaving him to die. His death is what drives the Avengers into action, knowing that a good man who had touched most of their lives in one or another film installment, gave his life for them to carry on the fight.

Regardless of his status (alive or dead) on the television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, as far as the Cinematic Universe is concerned, Phil Coulson is dead. In need of another briefcase-toting government figure, we’ve recently been introduced to Martin Freeman’s Agent Ross who takes over the “Coulson” type role being the liaison to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

There was mention of Agent Ross being a former Air Force pilot in Black Panther (2018)  just like our leading lady Carol Danvers, so if we get to see young Clark Gregg interact with a young Martin Freeman possibly getting flying lessons from Captain Marvel, that would be something! Knowing more about Agent Coulson’s backstory is definitely worth diving in to. Marvel has invested a lot in Clark Gregg so to bring him back in the mix, even in the past, shows how loyal this studio is to playing the long game, even when it comes to character reveals.

Lee Pace aka Ronan The Accuser

WENN

WENN

Lee Pace joined the MCU as Ronan the Accuser, the Kree fanatic determined to wipe out all life on the planet Xandar, in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). The Kree are set to play a significant role in Captain Marvel so while Ronan was obliterated by the Guardians with the power stone, it’s exciting that he’s coming back… possibly less homicidal?

What’s so smart about bringing Ronan back is that while he posed a great threat, we never really got to go deeper with him other than hearing of his devotion to Kree tradition and how he blames humans for taking the life of his father, and his father before him. I want to know what makes this guy tick. How did he become allies with Thanos? Who was his father? Can Captain Marvel give us answers to the future by looking to the past?

Djimon Hounsou aka Korath the Pursuer

WENN

WENN

We barely got to know Korath before Drax ripped his cybernetic skull implant out, so upon hearing he’ll be back as the Kree mercenary, this opens the doors wide for more details about this alien species and more importantly, what are their motives and where do they stem from? A guy doesn’t get the nickname the Pursuer for no reason.

With Korath set to return, we can learn more about the Kree soldier order and how he and Ronan paired up in the first place. Was their goal always vengeance or is there some deeper bond we have yet to uncover? Marvel is infamous for making damn sure everything in their world is connected. It would be one thing just to bring back Ronan, the token Kree, but it really gets interesting adding a young Korath to the mix. There is definitely more than meets the eye when it comes to Korath and Hounsou has the talent and charisma to pull off whatever hidden tricks are about to come to light.

This production update begs the question, will we see more beloved characters making future appearances after their on-screen demise? With the body count expected to get pretty high in Infinity War, this is a surefire means of securing the future of the next phase without forgetting the former.

NCAA Championship Game 2018: Betting Odds, Lines & Picks

The 2018 National Championship Game is set. March Madness has moved into April with two teams left: Villanova and Michigan. These two teams will duke it out for a national title at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. Tipoff is at 9:20 p.m. ET and will air on TBS.

The college basketball betting frenzy will come to its grand final tonight. Hopefully, after a wild (and unpredictable) March, you’re either even or have some money to work with tonight. Per Bovada, Villanova is a 7-point favorite, and the over-under is 145.

2018 National Championship Game: Betting Odds And Lines

Spread Moneyline Total
Michigan +7 (-110) +265  145 (-115)o
Villanova -7  (-110) -330  145 (-105)u

2018 National Championship Game: Preview And Predictions

This matchup pairs up two teams with completely different styles. Villanova loves to play fast, while Michigan tries to control the game at a much slower pace. Michigan has one of the best defenses in the country, and smothered Loyola-Chicago, holding them to just 57 points. It was the ramblers lowest output in the tournament. Michigan has only given up more than 65 points once in the tournament, and that was a game they won by 20 against Texas A&M.

On the other hand, Villanova sports the best offense in the country. Everyone on their team can shoot, and their relentless style has been shredding teams apart throughout the tourney – so far, their closest margin of victory has been 12 pts… It was more of the same in their Final Four matchup against Kansas. The Wildcats broke the record for most 3-pointers made in a Final Four game with 18. They tied the old record of 13 with 3 minutes remaining in the first half.

The two contrasting styles (and this erratic tournament in general) make this game a tough one to predict for both the spread and over-under. Both teams covered in their Final Four games, with Michigan’s final score finishing under the Vegas line, and Villanova’s over. Gun to my head and tears streaming down my face, I’d take Villanova with the spread and the over. They’ve been so dominant in every game that every team has had no choice but to adjust to their high motor style. I expect it to be relatively high scoring and for Villanova to slide away with a comfortable win by the end.

For shits and gigs, I’ll say: 80-69 Nova.

Lewis Hamilton is a four-time Formula One World Champion and a current driver for the Mercedes AMG Petronas team. Hamilton made his debut in Formula One in 2007 with the McLaren F1 Team. In his rookie season, he was the runner-up in the World Championship losing by a single point. In his next season, Hamilton won his first World Championship — this time winning by just a single point. Since then, Hamilton has moved to the Mercedes AMG Petronas team, has won another three World Championships and has become the most successful British driver in history.

Lewis Hamilton Net Worth As Of 2018: $260 Million

Having won three of the last four Drivers’ World Championships, Hamilton has the success and talent to back up his earnings. Between 2016-18 he is set to receive almost $50 million per year.

Karting Years 1993-2000

Lewis Hamilton started driving karts at age 8 in 1993. In 1995, Hamilton won his first championship, the British Karting Championship in the Cadet Class. The next year, he won the Champions of the Future series, a well as taking home the Sky TV KartMasters and Five Nations Championship in the Cadet Class. He repeated his British Karting Championship title for the next two seasons and in 1998 won the European and World Karting Championships. He is crowned World Karting Number One at 15 years old, becoming the youngest driver to do so. At the end of his 1998 season, Hamilton signs with McLaren’s Young Driver Support Program.

Early Professional Career 2001-2006

Hamilton got his start in the 2001 British Formula Renault Winter Series. He finished the series fifth overall, leading to a spot on the Manor Motorsport team for the 2002 Formula Renault UK series, finishing third overall. He remained with Manor Motorsport for 2003, this time taking home the title as 2003 Formula Renault UK Champion. He also made his Formula Three debut in the series’ last race. The following year, Hamilton competed full time in the 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series with Manor Motorsport. During the season, he got his first taste of a Formula 1 car having tested for McLaren at Silverstone. He would finish the 2004 season in fifth place, and move to reigning champions ASM for the following season. With ASM for 2005, Hamilton dominated the Formula 3 Championship, winning 15 of the 20 rounds. His success in Formula 3, provided him with a seat on the ART Grand Prix team in GP2 for 2006. Just like his previous season in Formula 3, Hamilton dominated the championship. With spots now available on McLaren’s Formula One team following the 2006 season, the announcement was made the Hamilton would be joining defending double Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso as McLaren’s second driver in the 2007 Formula One Championship.

McLaren Years 2007-2012

Instagram Photo
In just his debut season, Hamilton finished second in the Drivers’ World Championship, losing by just one point to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. Along the way, he set multiple records to make his season even more memorable. He set the record for most points in a debut season with 109, the most podiums from a debut with nine and tied for most wins in a debut season with four. Hamilton took the success in his rookie season and only got better as he won his first Drivers’ World Championship in the following season. Although, this time he won by just a single point over Ferrari’s Felipe Masa. As exciting as his first two seasons were with McLaren, he finished no higher than fourth in the Drivers’ Standings over the next four years. At the end of his 2012 season, he announced that he would be moving to moving to the Mercedes AMG Petronas team.

Mercedes Years 2013-Present

Instagram Photo
In his first season with Mercedes, Hamilton again finished fourth in the Drivers’ Standings. With new engine rules for 2014, Mercedes AMG Petronas found success immediately. Hamilton dominated his teammate Nico Rosberg and the rest of the competition to take home his second World Championship without much of a fight. He had a repeat success the following season and held his title as World Champion. 2016 proved more difficult however as his teammate Rosberg fought until the end and ultimately took the championship from Hamilton. Following Rosberg’s surprise retirement at the end of 2016, Hamilton was back to his winning ways in 2017 once again taking home the Drivers’ World Championship. In the 2018 season opener in Australia on March 25, Hamilton placed second behind Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton will look to bounce back in Abu Dhabi this weekend and take home his first win of the season.

Passover 2018 Memes: Funny Photos, Best Jokes & Images

The Passover season is here again and to help celebrate, we’ve collected some of the funniest memes throughout the internet reflecting different aspects of the holiday. Let’s take a look at some of these fun images and, while you’re here, learn a little something about the holiday. Take a look!

What & when is Passover?

Now, it is important to remember that Passover last a few days; this year, the holiday starts on the sunset of Friday, March 30, and will end of the nightfall of either Friday, April 6 or Saturday, April 7, effectively lasting a week.

The holiday is based around the story of the Book of Exodus, as it appear in both the Torah and the Bible, honoring the story of the ancient Jews escaping slavery in Egypt, as led by the prophet Moses. After sending various plagues after another against the Egyptian Pharaoh, the Jews were unable to obtain their freedom until the Angel of Death came for the firstborn son of each family. During the plague, the Jews were instructed to cover their houses with a lamb’s blood so that they would be spared, effectively “passed over” by the angel, hence the holiday’s English name.

In Hebrew, the holiday is known as “Pesach,” which is believed to have a similar meaning, although it has been debated over the years; some have argued it means “pity,” reflecting the angel sparing the Jews, or that it is simply an early word for “lamb.”

It is believed that the Jews were in such a hurry to escape when the Pharaoh finally released him, and with good reason, since he went after them, that they did not even have enough time to wait for their bread to rise. In representation of this, Jewish people do not eat leavened bread, also helping to make the flat unleavened bread that is matzo a staple of the holiday!

Another popular aspect of the holiday is the Seder, a special dinner with blessings that takes place in 15 parts! One well known aspect involves children, called the “four questions,” asking why this night is different from all others.

Top 5 Crazy Baseball Predictions That Might Just Come True

$

0

Baseball has always been the stats nerd’s favorite game, and it seems like every year there’s a new advanced statistic set to measure the angle at which a player drops his bat or how slowly a replacement-level player jogs to first on a pop-up. But the beauty of baseball is that these minute measurements and the stories they tell become part of an ever-specific history of the sport, one that allows us to contextualize everything we’re seeing. The other beauty of baseball, however, is that all those advanced projections and “on-pace-for” numbers make little-t0-no difference in the first few weeks of the season. There are some things you can’t measure, and no matter how arithmetically sound your predictions are, as of right now, it’s all just speculation. And that’s kind of a whole lot of fun.

Houston Astros will win 110 games

Instagram Photo

The defending champion ‘Stros were the best team in the AL last season by a hair, though FanGraphs has them being better than the rest of the AL again this year by a more substantial margin. After winning three of their first four games of the 2018 season, Houston is projected to go 96-62 the rest of the way, about five full-games better than the Yankees are projected to win. So how could Houston bump that number up to become a rare 110+ game winner? Well, playing well in April and September helps, and retaining your batting order while adding Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander to the mix for a full-season can’t hurt.

While a lot of teams end up finding their midseason form around, well, midseason, the ones who end up playing comfortably in September are usually the ones who got off on the right foot in April. Last year, Houston was so good in the 89-game first half — though in April and May, specifically — that having a terrible August meant relatively little to their playoff picture. Houston faces the likes of Minnesota, Seattle, San Diego, Oakland, the White Sox and the Angels in the season’s first month. Those teams combined to play exactly one playoff games last season (nice, Minnie!), but we can assume Houston isn’t complaining one bit.

Giancarlo Stanton hits 70 home runs

Instagram Photo

This one shouldn’t even seem that outrageous. It just shouldn’t. Stanton hit 59 home runs last year, including 18 in August alone, and 33 of them in what is considered perhaps the worst hitters’ park in baseball. Even with a successful effort to move in and lower the outfield fences prior to the 2016 season, Stanton’s old home at Marlins Park was and is still is pretty damn spacious. Now, let’s toss him in the polar opposite of Marlins Park: Yankee Stadium. Let’s put him in the most hitter-friendly park on the most hitter-friendly lineup in the league, sandwiched between two hitters in Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez who have demonstrated regularly just how easy it is to turn even a good pitch into a souvenir. Let’s give Stanton a shorter porch in right field than he’s ever had before, knowing full well he can already turn on any pitch and send it to any spot in the park. He rarely had the option at home last year to miss a pitch and still hit it out, and that alone may be worth an extra 10 home runs this season.  So far in 2018, Stanton’s already homered twice in one game, including one with a faster exit-velocity than any opposite-field homer has ever been recorded to have. It’s about to get crazy in the Bronx.

Billy Hamilton steals 80 bases

Instagram Photo

Hamilton regularly stole over 100 bases in the minors, including a staggering 155 bags nabbed during his age 21-season across single and double-A. However, he has yet to touch 60 so far in his major league career, teetering out at a career-high 59 last year. To be clear, it’s not that 59 steals isn’t like, really pretty good, because it is. But anybody who remembers the hype surrounding Hamilton when he first broke through in 2013, remembers expecting this kid to come into the league and steal 60 bases in half a season like it was nothing. So far, though, he isn’t even close, and the reasons are pretty obvious: Hamilton’s just not great at getting on base. He struck out 133 times last season and walked only 44 times,  an absolutely awful split for any base-stealing leadoff hitter, finishing with an absurdly bad .299 on base percentage. An extra 21 steals this season is a bold prediction, but we know that if Hamilton gets on base he’ll have the green light to run, and we know that he can run with the best of them. At age 27 and playing on a one-year deal, Hamilton’s entering both the prime of his career and perhaps the end of the road with the Reds. All of that hinges on his ability to breakout the way people have been expecting him to for a long time.

Shohei Otani racks up 200 strikeouts

Instagram Photo

One start into his professional career, and it’s clear that Shohei Otani, the pitcher, has devastating stuff. Following a frustrating Spring Training as both a pitcher and a hitter, Otani’s fastball topped out at 100 mph in his debut, and averaged nearly 99 mph for the day. His splitter and slider were both nasty at times, though the latter was inconsistently placed and eventually got deposited in the stands for a 3-run homer. Still, he struck out 6 and generated 18 swings-and-misses. The big question with Otani, though, will be how many opportunities he gets to pitch. If he only makes 20 starts this year, the chances of him reaching the 200 K plateau are slim, though I believe 25 mostly-quality starts would get him there. But the Angels are no-doubt itching to see if this two-way phenom really has the kind of power and speed to be a complement to perennial MVP Mike Trout, and if he does? Well, he probably won’t get to that 25th start. Something tells me, though, that this is exactly the kind of problem the Angels signed up to deal with.

Bartolo Colon Wins 10 Games at Age 45

Instagram Photo

Another baseball season, another opportunity to watch Bartolo Colon defy everything we knew about how an athlete should look and perform. He’s set to start Monday night for another new team — the Texas Rangers — and while it may not seem like he has a permanent spot in the rotation, just wait. Bartolo has a way of just getting in there and not letting go. Colon was bad last season — really bad, actually — but he still started 28 games between the Twins and the Braves. He had an 8.14 ERA in 13 starts for Atlanta. Imagine any prospect coming up and doing that and getting a second chance, let alone starting another 15 games for a different team. It seems inconceivable, but that’s the magic of Bartolo Colon. The man won 18 games with a 2.65 ERA at age 40, racked up 76 wins from between the ages of 38-44, and there were very few moments in that entire period where anyone knew if the guy was still good. Given the state of things in Arlington these days, and the unpredictability of a major league season, winning 10 games at age 45 should be nothing for Bartolo Colon. Total cakewalk. You heard it here first.

Why All 9 Championships Will Change Hands At Wrestlemania 34

$
0
0

Wrestlemania 34 is so close! As we approach the Showcase of the Immortals, we anxiously await to see who is going to hold on to their titles, and who is going to capture a shiny new piece of history for themselves. In this digital age, we are used to seeing one of two hashtags on WWE’s media after every title defense. Either #andstill or #andnew, denoting whether after the match the champ is still the champ, or if the challenger is now the new holder of the prize. Most Pay-Per-Views have parody, some titles changing hands and some not. It’s not unheard of for all the champs to retain or drop the title but it is highly unlikely. That being said it’s hard to look at this card and not see the possibility of seeing #andnew posted after every single one of these title matches.  It makes sense and more importantly is likely. And here’s why for each one…

Cruiserweight Champion

Instagram Photo

Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali

Ok, admittedly I wanted to get this one out of the way fast. This title literally HAS to change hands. The Cruiserweight Title has been Vacant since the January release of Enzo Amore amidst a Sexual Assault Investigation. Since then the boys of 205 Live and new GM of the show Drake Maverick have been putting on a heck of a show in the form of a tournament to crown a new winner for the vacant title. 205 stalwarts Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander have emerged as the two who will duke it out at Wrestlemania. Most people could have seen this coming but doesn’t mean it won’t be great. Alexander is incredibly athletic and put on such a show at the Cruiser Weight Classic that the crowd chanted that WWE should immediately sign him which was met by Triple H himself immediately coming out and letting the crowd know their request had been granted. His counterpart in the match has been listed by many wrestlers for his ability and has been one of the hardest working members of 205 Live. Hopefully, this isn’t relegated to the preshow but if it is, tune in early.

Raw Tag Team Titles

Instagram Photo

The Bar (C)  vs. Braun Stroman and TBD

Sheamus and Cesaro have taken a lackluster feud and turned it into one of the best Tag Teams working right now in the form of The Bar. They have been amazing on and off the mic on their way to four Tag Teams titles with each other. Regardless they are going up against Braun Stroman. Arguably no one has had a better past 12 months in the WWE as Stroman, and you just can’t move past that. The Bar are great, but more of WWE’s stock is in Stroman right now, so much, so some people think him being in the Tag Title match at ‘Mania is beneath him. It’s a safe bet to assume they would give Stroman his first official title at the big one.

SmackDown Tag Team Titles

Instagram Photo

The Usos (C) vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers

The Usos and The New Day have been putting in WORK against each other. Their matches have been great and adding in the Bludgeon Brothers at this point is perfect. It gives the rivalry legs for months. Luke Harper and Eric Rowan, who make up the Bludgeon Brothers, are no strangers to tag team battle having worked together for a long time as part of the Wyatt family. By adding a team of bruisers like them, it seems like we can get the feeling we got from past matches with Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boys, and The Dudley Boys years ago. Look for the Bludgeon Brothers to win the titles to give the aura that any team could win these titles from the other at any time in the coming months. And if we’re lucky, it’ll happen a bunch.

United States Title

Instagram Photo

Randy Orton (C) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev

This one is the most up in the air it seems. There is a good reason for each to win and WWE appears ready to invest in all of them, except maybe Rusev. Though he is so popular with the fans at this point, that just by adding him to the match shows the WWE brass are taking notice. The current champion is Randy Orton, and out of all four men in this match, he will take the smallest blow to momentum and credibility with a loss. He already got a story out of his short run by completing his Grand Slam Champion bid (GC Champion means you’ve won the World, Intercontinental, United States, and Tag Championships each at least once) with this US Title so don’t be surprised to see someone else’s hand raised at the end.

The Intercontinental Championship

Instagram Photo

The Miz (C) vs. Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins

A strong case can be made that The Miz is the best on mic talent WWE has right now. By putting so much emphasis on the title and its importance and cutting some of the best promos by any wrestler in years while holding it, he has done his part to return the historic title to a place of reverence. Recently he has been talking about how close he is to becoming the longest reigning IC Champ of all time to make it seem like he won’t be dropping it but here are three reasons why he will. 1. The record for days held he is touting about right now is for overall days, not consecutive which is held by the Honky Tonk Man at 454 days. So it is possible he could always continue his pursuit of a subsequent reign. 2. He just had his first daughter born to wife Maryse. If there were a time he would take a few weeks away, or want the ability to leave if he needs to, it would be now. Can’t do that with the strap over your shoulder. 3. Not only could he continue his record pursuit with another win, but his next win would also tie him for most reigns of all time with Chris Jericho at nine. How great a story would it be to come back from having your baby, tie the all-time record of most reigns, AND break the “most days held” record? Rollins and Balor are both incredible wrestlers who would continue to elevate the title. My money is on Balor. He is due to have a title reign after having to give up the inaugural Universal Championship due to injury after one night.

Charlotte (C) vs. Asuka

This should be exciting. These are two dominant women, and realistically either one could win. It’s going to be intense and hard fought. That being said… it’s going to be Asuka. The WWE has invested an insane amount of time into her undefeated streak. She debuted in September 2015 and has not lost since. WWE won’t have her first loss be in her first title shot on the main roster. Charlotte has been the benchmark for women’s wrestling in the WWE for a couple years now so losing a slobber knocker won’t destroy her credibility. It’s going to be a great match, but most likely it will be Asuka.

Alexa Bliss (C) vs. Nia Jax

Former best friends Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax will go after each other for the title at ‘Mania. A backstage camera caught Bliss talking all kinds of trash behind the back of Jax who was watching in the ring while it was broadcast to the jumbotron. Bliss has had a great run, but she is going to get run over by the scorned and angry Jax. She is being billed as an unstoppable force of rage, and it’s hard to see any way the 5 foot nothing Bliss can get out on top. Also wouldn’t it be great to see the body shaming bully character crushed by her betrayed friend? Bliss fights dirty but ends up being no match for Jax. Personal hot take though–keep an eye out for Carmella. Asuka has jumped ship from Raw to SmackDown to challenge for the title there, Carmella still has the Money in the Bank briefcase, it would make sense for her to jump from Raw to SmackDown to capitalize on the shake-up and cash in…

AJ Styles (C) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

This one should be fun. The fan’s dream match, Styles vs. Nakamura. The former New Japan Pro Wrestling behemoths battling it out. This feud can have legs until SummerSlam in August. Look for Nakamura to narrowly come out on top so they can milk this duo over the next few months until Styles takes it back at SummerSlam.

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns

And all of this brings us to this. McMahon’s boys battling out for Raw’s top prize. Lesnar and Reigns have put together some intense promos the past few weeks on Raw with Lesnar leaving Reigns in a heap on the ground. This usually means that Reigns will come out on top. Add to that the rumblings that Lesnar intends to return to UFC and the fact that he has held the title now for an entire year, winning it back at Wrestlemania 33 from Goldberg. It’s hard to believe that Reigns won’t be walking out as champ. WWE has been intent on making us love Reigns and creating the next face of the company, and they aren’t going to back down. Expect Lesnar to rain down a mess of pain on Reigns only for the Big Dog to make a valiant come back to overcome the odds so we can all enjoy Reigns first Universal Title….reign.

Personally, I think this is one of the strongest Wrestlemania cards in years so regardless of how things turn out, this should be a good one.

Austin Police Department

According to TMZ, the man who was busted for stalking Taylor Swift all over Texas is getting off with probation. It’s for 10 years though, and with several strings attached.  – but for a long time, with several strings attached.

Frank Andrew Hoover was busted in 2016 after he showed up at one of Swift’s concerts in Austin, violating a protective order Swift had against him. The order was filed in response to several threatening emails Hoover had sent the singer’s father.

Some excerpts from these disturbing emails include: “Decided that we are going to end all the Swifts on one day because I can’t stand that virus shit your daughter spread”; “The evil family of devils: Scott, Austin, Taylor, Andrew. Sincerely, the end real son of god”; and “this article is not a joke and is why god is going to burn them into the desert for me.”

Hoover pled guilty to repeatedly violating the order, and Monday he was sentenced to 10 years probation. As part of his probation, Hoover’s whereabouts will be monitored by GPS for at least the first year. He has to stay a mile away from Taylor and her family. Hoover also has to complete psychological testing, attend substance abuse classes, surrender all firearms and undergo random drug testing.
