Alek Minassian, 25, has been identified as the person responsible for killing nine people and injuring many more after he rammed a van into a crowd of pedestrians. Witnesses at the scene said he appeared to be deliberately targeting pedestrians along Yonge St. near Finch Ave. CBS News was first to report Minassian’s identity.

According to Toronto police spokesperson Gary Long, a witness told police that Alek Minassian hit up anywhere from eight to 10 people. Police were initially called to the intersection at Yonge and Finch for a report of a collision around 1:27 p.m. local time. Alek Minassian fled the scene after the attack but was arrested shortly thereafter.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted: “Our thoughts are with all those affected by the terrible incident at Yonge and Finch in Toronto. Thank you to the first responders working at the scene – we’re monitoring the situation closely.”

In the attack, Minassian used a rented Ryder vehicle. Video from the scene shows Minassian telling police that he “has a gun in his pocket” as they attempt to bring him into custody.

Minassian’s specific motive remains unclear at this time.

Former NYC Police commissioner Bill Bratton told MSNBC that Minassian was previously known to authorities before the attack as a potential terror suspect.

A public LinkedIn profile with the name Alek Minassian says that he was a student at Seneca College, although it has yet to be confirmed if that is the same Alek Minassian responsible for the attack.

Alek Minassian is in custody and the van has been located, Toronto Police media representative Gary Long said. A law enforcement official briefed on the situation in Toronto tells CNN the incident is believed to be deliberate.

Seven patients from the incident were received at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The hospital was unable to provide details on the severity of those injuries. Stephen Powell, district chief for Toronto Fire, confirmed that there have been multiple casualties. A large presence of Toronto fire, police and EMS personnel are on the scene, Powell said.

The incident happened in the North York area at the intersection of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, police said. Powell said the suspect covered between a half-mile and a mile in the vehicle.

Chelsea Luelo, who works at Capriccio Café, saw the incident and said she thought the driver was hitting people intentionally. “It looked like he was going straight, halfway through the sidewalk,” Luelo said.

The van attack in Toronto comes six months after a similar attack in New York City killed eight people. On October 31, 2017, 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov drove a rented pickup truck down a New York City bicycle path, killing eight and injuring up to a dozen.

Social Activities Suspended at Indiana University Sorority

The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at Indiana University had its chapter activities suspended in the midst of an investigation. Zeta Tau Alpha has temporarily suspended chapter activities at the Alpha Xi chapter on IU’s campus as they investigate alleged violations of policies, although the specific violations are unclear at this time.

According to Fox 59, the alumni of the Alpha Xi chapter at IU received an email stating all chapter activities are temporarily suspended while the national council investigates what it says are alleged violations of their policies.

At this time, no information has been released regarding which specific code of conduct policies was possibly violated or what led to the investigation. An Indiana University spokesperson said the university supports the national council’s actions but could not comment further.

“While the investigation is ongoing, there is no further information that can be given at this time,” the sorority said in an email.

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

John Cena: Top 5 Must See Career Moments

0
0

John Cena, WWE’s top superstar for the past ten year’s birthday is today, April 23, 2018, and I felt as though it was appropriate to list the best moments of his career. Through 10 years of being the “The Face the Runs The Place,” John Cena has had made some very memorable moments that have resonated in the minds of his fans. Though narrowing them down to only five was hard, I felt as though these are the very best moments that had defined Cena through the years and had cemented him as the best of all time. The list will consist of a mixture of matches, programs, or just moments that John Cena was involved in.

5. Dr. of Thuganomics

First on the list is the debut of the character that put John Cena on the map. The “Dr of Thuganomics” is John Cena’s first over the top character in WWE. He first debuted as a very generic wrestler who had almost no personality that had the catchphrase “Ruthless Aggression.” This iteration of John Cena did not catch on and ultimately went nowhere. He was later given the persona of “Dr. of Thuganomics.” which was a very outrageous rapper persona in which Cena would come out every week and rap at his opponent and embarrassing them in the process. This character was so over the top which his baggy clothes, hat turned backward and would pretty much only speak in rhymes.

Even though Cena said the role wasn’t who he was, it was what got him to where he is today. Fans remember when John Cena rap battled the likes of Big Show and Kurt Angle very fondly, to this day people go back and watch it. The “Dr of Thuganomics” is what pushed Cena to his main event level.  This character got over with the WWE fanbase, and they embraced him. Over time Cena eventually left the gimmick behind but not without giving fans a lot of fun memories.

4. Royal Rumble Return

In the year 2008, WWE had a roster with the very best the company had to offer, with the likes of Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, Triple H, Batista, Edge, and Shawn Michaels. Three months before John Cena injured himself on an episode of Smackdown where he suffered a pectoral tear. The doctors stated that John needed immediate surgery and he would be out for at least six months to heal. The WWE Universe got a glimpse of what the fans would, later on, refer to as “Super Cena” that night when only three months later at the “Royal Rumble” in Madison Square Garden the clock counted down for the 30th entrant and John Cena’s music hits, initiating his return. The crowd sprung to their feet in cheers as the stadium roared when John Cena came walking out. It was a moment that caught many people off guard that night and is remembered as one of the greatest “Royal Rumble” moments of all time.

3. Winning his first WWE Title

2004 was a massive year for John Cena. Since the debut of his “Dr of Thuganomics” character. He was really gaining traction in his popularity, and the WWE officials decided it was time to give Cena his first championship. At Wrestlemania 20 John Cena had the biggest match in his career as he was facing the Big Show in the opening match for the United States Championship. It was an exciting match with the now famous moment of Cena carrying the Big Show on his shoulders to deliver the “Attitude Adjustment” for a near fall. The match eventually ended with John Cena using brass knuckles to cheat and hit Big Show keeping him down long enough for the three count. This lead to the crowd roaring with applause as Cena celebrated in the ring. The match was only the beginning of John Cena’s long career with many more title wins in the future, but it is still hard to forget the first.

2. “Money In The Bank”- 2011

In 2011 wrestler CM Punk was WWE’s rising star, he stood against the grain of what a WWE wrestler was. He was presented as the voice of the people. This ultimately culminated in a legendary feud with current WWE champion John Cena at the time. This feud was the perfect display of two opposite people with a storyline that was heating up for months. Even though the dispute was mainly about wrestler CM Punk, John Cena played a massive role in where he refused to give into the temptations of CM Punk and refused to change who he was. This feud culminated at “Money in the Bank” 2011, the CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago where he faced John Cena for the WWE Championship, the stipulation was if CM Punk won the Championship he would leave WWE with the belt. The match was a sight to behold with the crowd on their feet the whole time. Everything John Cena and CM Punk did the crowd reacted to and were on the edge of their seat. The match ended when John refused to get help from Vince McMahon, which ultimately resulted in him losing and Punk running away with the Championship. This feud is now recognized as Cenas best feud and match of his entire career because of the long drawn out story that is told between two opposite views.

1. Make-A-Wish

The best moment of John Cena’s career isn’t his wrestling at all. It his is the ability to give back to the children. As of 2018, John Cena holds the record for the most visits to Make-A-Wish foundation ever with over 500. Cena is a very busy many for the most significant wrestling company in the world but still finds a way to go and visit the sickly children who made it their dream to meet him. John Cena makes these kids so happy and is touching to watch these children meet their hero. Meeting 500 people is a huge milestone and one that many people thank John for being so generous with his him.

William Paterson Investigating Sorority Member For Racist Video

Twitter

William Paterson University in New Jersey is investigating sorority sisters for a potential racist incident. University officials say they are “disgusted” by a video that shows two white college women — one of them a leader in the university’s sorority community — using the n-word.

The video, which was shared on Facebook and Twitter, shows two white women wearing Pennsylvania State University clothes using racial slurs, specifically the n-word. According to the South Pacific Daily Voice, while the student as yet to be officially identified, the William Paterson student uses the Twitter handle “jasmineee_b13.” The second student in the video was identified as a Penn State student on social media, however, the school did not confirm that she was a student.

One tweet from a Penn State student identifies the woman in the video as Jasmine Barkley, calling for the university to take disciplinary action. However, Penn State replied saying “We condemn racist messages, as they are hateful and violate our institutional values. We cannot, however, impose sanctions for Constitutionally protected speech, no matter how offensive.”

William Paterson released the following statement on Facebook:

Furthermore, the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority also issued a statement denouncing the video:

“Delta Phi Epsilon International Headquarters has just become aware of an unfolding situation at William Paterson University. We are investigating the actions of one member and will take swift, decisive action to remove her or any member who does not uphold our values,” said Nicole Defeo, executive director of the international organization.

Delta Phi Epsilon’s international office says it’s aware of the situation and promises to decisive action to remove her or any member who does not uphold their values. In addition, Dr. Miki Cammarata, William Paterson’s VP for student development says the university staff is investigating the matter to determine what actions are appropriate.

Here Is How The X-Men Can Crossover To MCU

0
0

Recently rumors have been flying about the future of the Fox X-Men franchise and the possibility that Stage 4 of the MCU could finally bring in the beloved mutant superheroes. While nothing has been confirmed by either studio at this point in time, fans (and even some actors) are already speculating on the perfect way to combine the franchises based on their previously intertwined backgrounds in the comics.

Avengers vs. X-Men

Instagram Photo

If or when the X-Men join the MCU, some kind of misunderstanding-based conflict between the two superhero groups is inevitable. While they have both clashed and worked in tandem many times over Marvel Comics history, two story arcs specifically titled Avengers vs. X-Men exist.

The first is from the late 80’s and sets the X-Men against the Avengers in an attempt to save a reformed Magneto from going to trial. The better-known series from 2012 pits the two teams against each other over the presence of the Phoenix Force and whether it should be used to save the mutant race or destroyed.

If an Avengers vs. X-Men movie does happen, it will probably be dramatically different than either of the comic arcs (similar to the Age of Ultron and Civil War adaptions), but the general idea and the title are ideal for any future films that bring the teams together.

House of M

Instagram Photo

The House of M storyline is another storyline that could be used to bring the X-men into the Avengers world.

In the comic, the Scarlet Witch uses her reality-bending abilities to construct a world where her father Magneto rules the United States and mutants are the dominant species. She uses Charles Xavier’s telepathy to find her friends and allies most profound desires and give them a seemingly perfect life, but this ends in tears when their true memories return, and they attack Magneto and his family in a desperate attempt to change reality back.

As it involves reality warping and the inclusion of new characters such as the Scarlet Witch’s formerly lost children, House of M has been put forward as the perfect opportunity for the X-men joining the MCU. Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen has even suggested it in a recent interview.

Due to the poorly handled portrayal of the Witch’s mental health and the demonization of her character in comics for nearly ten years following it, it is far from a popular choice for many comic fans.

Secret Wars

Instagram Photo

The 2015 Secret Wars storyline is also based in reality warping and merging.

In it, a complicated chain of events throughout the Marvel Multiverse cause ‘incursions,’ different universes collided and destroyed each other. It eventually led to the destruction of the prime Marvel reality, pieces of which merged with other universal fragments. In the end, the universe was safely restored, but with added aspects from other worlds including popular characters such as Ultimate Spider-man (Miles Morales).

An adaption of this storyline could function the same way a House of M movie would, providing a plot-related excuse to add the X-Men and mutants to the MCU. Perhaps most importantly, Thanos and the Black Order were vital to the Secret Wars set up; this could mean that Avengers: Infinity War is a natural stepping-off point for the cinematic merger.

13 Trucks Park Underneath Freeway Overpass To Prevent A Man From Committing Suicide

The primary job of police — above all else — is to save lives. And because of that, police usually employ a “do whatever it takes” mentality when it comes to saving peoples lives, and sometimes, that requires a little creativity.

During the early hours of Tuesday, April 24, in order to counteract a man who was threatening to commit suicide on a highway overpass in Oaks Park, Michigan State Police parked thirteen semi-trucks underneath the overpass to help shorten the fall, closing all the lanes of Highway 696 in the process.

After an initial call came in around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, police shut down the eastbound lanes as they organized semi-truck passing through the area to park underneath the bridge. They then did the same with the westbound lanes. In total, 13 semi trucks were parked under the overpass to shorten the distance of the fall if the unidentified man decided to jump.

According to Fox 2 Detroit: the man did not jump and the situation ended with him walking off the bridge. The man was taken by Huntington Woods Police to Beaumont hospital for evaluation. Michigan State Police, Huntington Woods, and Oak Park police were all on the scene and with negotiators talking to the man for several hours.

Highway 696 was reopened to travelers around 4 a.m. local time.

If you or someone you is feeling distressed, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The crisis center provides free and confidential emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to civilians and veterans. Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or text to 741-741.

Pom Klementieff Instagram: Best Photos & Must-See Pictures

Pom Klementieff’s stock has absolutely skyrocketed over the course of the past year, thanks in no small part to being a part of one of the most successful cinematic undertakings in history. Currently, Klementieff portrays Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Klementieff first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and is now a full-fledged member of the comic book super team. She’s set to have a role in the massive film Avengers: Infinity War.

Klementieff was born on May 3rd, 1986, in Quebec City, Canada to a Korean mother and a French-Russian father. Her father was a French diplomat, so Klementieff traveled a lot when she was young, living in Canada, Japan, the Ivory Coast, before settling down in France.

Tragically, her father committed suicide when Klementieff was just five years old, and her mother was a diagnosed schizophrenic, so Klementieff was raised by her aunt and uncle. She briefly attended law school, before leaving to begin a career in acting.

She appeared in a variety of movies once she got her start, beginning in French cinema before making her Hollywood debut in Spike Lee’s remake of the Korean film Oldboy. Following that film, Klementieff moved to Los Angeles. She got her big break when she was cast as Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

She is indeed on the rise in the acting world, and frankly, we can’t wait to see where she goes to next.

The 3 Men Who Are Looking To Replace Arsène Wenger

0

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has been through a lot with the team during the 22 years he has been there. However, he recently announced that at the end of the season he would hand over his title to someone new. His current team, former players and fans alike will undoubtedly miss the 68-year-old. Even his previous rivals had only good things to say about him. Alex Ferguson, the former manager of Manchester United, stated, “He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest Premier League managers.” Meanwhile, José Mourinho, the current manager of Manchester United and possibly Wenger’s greatest foe, expressed nothing but respect for Wegner. Some see it as the end of an era for Arsenal, but there’s plenty to look forward to in regards to the club’s future. The main question right now is, “Who’s going to replace the Frenchman?” Let’s take a look at the three primary candidates, who by the way, are all a lottttt younger.

Mikel Arteta

The retired Spanish midfielder is getting much attention. Arteta is the assistant coach of Manchester City. The same team led by the brilliant Pep Guardiola, and also the same team who just won the Premier League. Not only has Arteta received guidance under a very successful head coach, but he has a history with Arsenal, as a former captain of the team. Critics believe he has a lack of managerial experience; however, the 36-year-old is known for his innovative style of play and is expected to bring fresh ideas to the club.

The 47-year-old stepped down as manager of FC Barcelona in 2017 to go on sabbatical and has recently been searching for a management position with a top English team. It seems like this may now be his chance. The former Real Madrid and FC Barcelona player has acquired some boastful stats over the course of his managerial career. Enrique has won two La Liga titles as well as the Champions League. In his three seasons with Barcelona, the team won nine (out of a possible thirteen) trophies. It’s obvious this guy doesn’t mess around.

Domenico Tedesco

Instagram Photo

At the ripe age of 32, Tedesco is a cherub compared to Wenger. The FC Schalke manager is also relatively new to the whole manager thing. He has only one year of experience so far. Despite this, he has done a lot for his team in that small amount of time. Schalke is ranked second in the Bundesliga, and this can be attributed mainly to Tedesco’s form of coaching. He’s a big proponent of defending. He believes a team should focus on defense first, and scoring second. Based on Arsenal’s past season, this type of thinking may be exactly what the club needs.

Best NBA Playoff Moments From April 23: Rockets Unleashed & Thunder Undone

0
0

On Monday, April 23, we were treated to pivotal Game 4s for Rockets/Timberwolves and Thunder/Jazz. James Harden and the Rockets turned the Timberwolves to ash, while Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz sent OKC spiraling. Houston and Utah now each possess the coveted 3-1 lead–who will advance first?

Minneapolis, You Have a Problem

After gifting Minneapolis its first NBA playoff game and NBA playoff win since 2004 on Saturday, the Timberwolves looked prepared to challenge the Rockets for an even series two nights later. At halftime on Monday, the Wolves trailed 50-49 behind 11 points from Derrick Rose (of all people) and 10 from Jimmy Butler. On the other side, James Harden had just 12 at the time, which was equally a partial achievement–he started the game shooting 0-for-7–and an omen. Harden, who found his rhythm midway through the second quarter, never looked back.

Instagram Photo

The third quarter turned the Target Center into a makeshift slaughterhouse. In just 12 minutes, the Houston Rockets doubled their point total. Harden contributed a franchise-record 22, Chris Paul added 15, and we had, finally, the fullest picture of just how threatening this backcourt can be on a nightly basis this postseason. Through the first three games of the series, it felt like Harden and Paul were designating among themselves which of the two would be great each game: in Game 1, Harden netted 44, while Paul scored just 14; when Harden shot 2-for-18 in Game 2, Paul shot 10-for-18. (Game 3 saw their most even outputs to that point, but neither was great enough. The Rockets lost.) Taking advantage of the defensively lackadaisical and offensively depleted Wolves in the third quarter on Monday, Paul and Harden peaked together. The Rockets had a 31-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, which we may as well have skipped.

Instagram Photo

At the end of the day, this is a 1-8 first-round matchup, and while the Wolves have had moments of promise, they are simply unprepared for a deep playoff run. Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins aren’t, developmentally, where we expected them to be. Butler is dealing with at least three injuries, and frankly shouldn’t even be playing. Jeff Teague is being outplayed by Rose. Tom Thibodeau, long lauded a defense-first head coach, is helming a ship capsizing into its defensive weaknesses. The Timberwolves tantalized us early this season, but recycling bad habits won’t push them past a Rockets team happy to capitalize on their glaring shortcomings.

Instagram Photo

As the teams head back to Houston for a close-out game, both need to examine their performances through the up-and-down series. If the Wolves want to steal a road win and stay alive, they should consider starting Rose. They should transfer some responsibility from the banged-up Butler to Wiggins, who said after Game 3, “I feel like I play good under pressure.” They should construct the offense around Towns, who’s made his living in the paint over the past two contests. They should also pray Towns doesn’t pick up two fouls in the first three minutes of the game like he did Monday. If the threes aren’t falling, the Wolves must attack the basket and let Rose, Butler, and Towns go to work. If the Wolves continue to stagnate offensively and concede defensively, they can call April 26 their first day of summer.

Instagram Photo

Meanwhile, if the Rockets want to cap off a five-game series with a statement victory, Harden can’t be passive. Paul, Clint Capela, P.J. Tucker, and Trevor Ariza need to stay defensively active on one end and put the ball in the basket on the other. Capela will be key: setting good screens for Harden and Paul, getting to his own open spots, keeping up with Towns one-on-one, shot-blocking, rim-running, and rebounding have been his responsibilities throughout, and he’s yet to let the Rockets down. As long as Harden and Paul produce efficiently, team defense is attentive, and Capela does his job, the Rockets should glide to victory.

Houston’s 50-point quarter in the playoffs–remember, a time when basketball is supposed to slow down–is the second-best output of its nature in history. And honestly? Don’t be surprised if they do it again between Wednesday and June.

The Slow, Inevitable Death of OKC

Instagram Photo

Since October, we’ve heard it over and over again: “give them time”. “Give them 30 games” became “give them until the All-Star break”, which in turn became “well, they’re built for the Playoffs”. Would someone like to tell the Oklahoma City Thunder that the Playoffs are, uh, here?

Instagram Photo

If you’ve watched the Thunder all season and you also happen to be a realist, you shouldn’t be surprised that they’re in a 3-1 hole against the lower-seeded Utah Jazz. OKC continues to underperform relative to expectations that held Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony to a standard that remains mysterious but was ultimately unattainable. The Jazz, however, have no identifiable ceiling.

After Utah took a 2-1 series lead on Saturday behind Ricky Rubio’s triple-double and overall outstanding play, Westbrook (the Triple-Double Prince, mind you) issued a challenge less to Rubio and more to himself: “I’ma shut that sh*t off next game … guarantee that.” True to his word, he kind of did. But in the process of hounding Rubio full-court and limiting him to 4-for-12 shooting, Westbrook picked up four fouls before halftime. While he was engaged and appropriately aggressive in the first quarter, Russ’s foul trouble negatively impacted his performance through the final three. George and Anthony didn’t necessarily pick up the slack. Seven technicals and one Mitt Romney later, OKC’s bare bones told the story.

Instagram Photo

Anthony shot 5-for-18 and George 9-for-21. Melo missed all six of his attempts beyond the arc, while Playoff P went 2-for-9. Poor shooting is nothing new for OKC’s superstars; the only consistency they can boast is a stale offense. Overall though, OKC shot 5-for-26 from three-point range, far and away their worst team three-point performance of the season. The Thunder bench managed just 18 points. The team clocked 10 total assists, while Utah had 21. Russ, the league leader in assists, dished just three. He shot 7-for-18, grabbed 14 rebounds, and turned the ball over five times.

Instagram Photo

While OKC goes up in flames, Utah is thriving. Donovan Mitchell is effortlessly breaking rookie records set more than three decades ago by Jordan and Malone. Rudy Gobert is notching double-doubles with ease while scaring OKC out of the paint. Rubio continues to put together complete games predicated on facilitating. Off the bench, Royce O’Neale is an offensive spark while Jae Crowder is an enforcer. Joe Ingles is living large as the Thunder continue to leave him free as a bird in three-point territory. Postgame, the always affable Mitchell reiterated, “we always say the strength of our team is our team.” The opposite could be said of the Thunder.

Do the Thunder have any idea of what’s going on? Do they have a game plan? Why are they leaving Joe Ingles wide open? Why aren’t they doubling Donovan Mitchell? Why won’t they just make Ricky Rubio shoot and live with the result? Why won’t they move the ball? Where is Steven Adams? Do they understand why they’re losing? Why is Joe Ingles wide open?

Instagram Photo

Westbrook, George, and Anthony’s postgame media availabilities have had a whole lot to do with making and missing shots and little to do with anything else. If OKC continues to simply hope to make shots, we can pretty much call this a wrap. They’re fighting the league’s best defense with a hideous offense. They’re countering a team-oriented offense with their own distracted, over-aggressive defense. The Thunder are being outsmarted and outplayed by a composed, patient, focused underdog. Even if OKC gets their sh*t together and emerges the winner of an extended seven-game series, it would be hard to call them the true victors. Somewhere in Los Angeles, Magic Johnson is cackling.

Letitia Wright Instagram: Best Photos & Must-See Pictures

Letitia Wright is a shining star at only 24 years old, having starred in Black Panther, one of the highest grossing films to date. Born October 31, 1993, in South Africa, Wright and her family made the move and she grew up in London as a child. From there, she pursued her education and ambition in acting, making appearances in the AMC series Humans, the Netflix smash hit Black Mirror, and most notably joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the brilliant young Wakanda scientist Shuri.

Wright is extremely vocal about her personal battle with depression and how embracing Christianity helped her take the leap towards more ambitious roles, such as Shuri. Say what you want about young actors, Letitia is a stunning example of breaking the mold and remaining grounded in such an overpowering industry.

In 2015, she received the honor of being awarded the “BAFTA and Burberry Breakthrough Brits”. The sky is the limit for this young actress and hopefully, this is just the beginning of a bright future.

Mohamed Salah Net Worth 2018: How Much Is He Worth?

0

Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool forward, has had an unforgettable 2017-18 season. Salah was named the PFA Premier League Player of the Year and will likely finish the year as the top-scorer in the English Premier League (much to Harry Kane’s frustration). With 31 goals at the time of this writing, the 25-year-old is basically a shoo-in for the Premier League Golden Boot award. The goal-scoring fiend has earned his place as a very coveted player, and in turn, Salah’s addition to any team will come with a very hefty price tag. Let’s see how much the Egyptian soccer player is worth today!

Mohamed Salah’s Net Worth  2018: $2.25 Million

Although Salah’s net worth is estimated to be around $2.25 million. His current wages at Liverpool are approximately $125,000 per week (£90,000).

Egyptian Beginnings

Instagram Photo

Mohamed Salah was born on June 15, 1992 in Gharbia, Egypt. Even at an early age, he had a love for the game. When he wasn’t on the field, he was watching soccer matches on tv. He played for a youth team, despite the practices being a far drive away from his home. When he was 18, he transferred to the Egyptian Premier League where he played as forward. Unfortunately the league was cancelled after the Port Said Stadium riot in 2012. In the same year, he transitioned to Swiss club FC Basel. He won two titles with the team, and scored ten goals in 50 games. In 2011, he made his first international appearance with the Egypt National team, who he still plays for.

Professional Career

Instagram Photo

In 2014, Salah found his way to the English Premier League where he signed on with Chelsea. In that moment, he made history as the first Egyptian soccer player to ever play on the club. He made his first official debut with the team on February 8, 2014 as a substitute against Newcastle United. His first premier league goal came shortly after in a match against Arsenal. In the 11 appearances he made with Chelsea, he scored two goals.

Salah was then sent to Fiorentina as part of a loan deal. He only played eight games with the team, and though they wanted to make his move permanent, Salah refused. Instead he joined Roma on August 6, 2015. After impressing the club and scoring a total of 15 goals, he became Player of the Season. Then on June 22, 2017 Salah made one of his greatest moves yet and transferred to his current team, Liverpool. On August 12, in a match against Watford, he scored his first goal for the team.

Awards

Instagram Photo

At this point, Salah has made goal-scoring a hobby. As a result, he’s now got awards for days. He’s been awarded Premier League Player of the Month. Three times. In one season. He’s the only player in the league to have done this. In 2017, he received the title of BBC African Footballer of the Year, but so far 2018 has been Salah’s busiest year. In addition to being named PFA Premier League Player of the Year, he was also named African Player of the Year and CAF Africa’s finest XI. The forward earned a spot on PFA’s Team of the Year as well. Now he’s set to break Ronaldo’s record for most goals in a 38 game season. Fingers crossed, Salah.

Mike Francesa Net Worth 2018: How Much is Mike Francesa worth?

0
0

After saying goodbye to his listeners in mid-December 2017, Mike Francesa has stunned fans and the New York City radio scene with an announcement that he will be cutting his retirement short and returning to WFAN in afternoon Drive. The ‘Sports Pope’ has been an integral voice on sports radio in both NYC and nationally, what with his endless historical knowledge, gelled white hair and gruff New Yawk accent. His life has been a mix of great success and heartbreaking tumult. How did Francesa arrive at such notoriety, and how much is he worth?

Mike Francesa Net Worth: $16 Million

Throughout his entire career in media and broadcasting, Francesca has earned an estimated $16 Million. Let’s take a look at how he came to earn that much money!

Early Life

Instagram Photo

Francesa is a life-long native of the New York City area, which should be no surprise to anyone who has listened to him for more than five seconds. He was born in raised on Western Long Island just outside Queens in Long Beach. Francesa was left with his siblings, older brother John and younger brother Marty (who would tragically commit suicide as an adult in 1990), when their father, Michael Sr., abandoned the family when Mike was just eight.

Francesa would move around Long Island and the NYC area in his ensuing coming-of-age years. He would attend High School in Uniondale and graduate from St. John’s in Queens with a degree in communications and athletic administration.

Early Career

Instagram Photo

It was natural given his rabid knowledge of, and obsession with, sports that he would find himself working in that world immediately out of college. He began by working at Football news publications before landing a gig at CBS Sports in 1982, where he would stay in varied capacities for 11 years even as his radio career took off on WFAN. He began at CBS as a behind the scenes college sports researcher, before being put in front of the camera and on-air by executives who were blown away by his encyclopedic knowledge of American sports.

Mike and The Mad Dog & WFAN

Instagram Photo

In 1987, the now legendary New York Sports radio station WFAN was founded. Eager to test his college-learned communications skills and give radio a try, Francesa applied for a job with the station. After some persistence and patience, Mike was given a weekend slot where he talked college sports. Francesa would garner positive impressions and would move around to various slots before being teamed with the loud and energetic Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo in afternoon drive.

After some initial bumps in the road, the ‘Mike and the Mad Dog’ show went on to great success, dominating the ratings for just short of 20 years. ‘Mike and the Mad Dog’ worked because of the genuine passion and intelligence both hosts displayed, as well as their understanding of American sports and their history. As far as sports talk radio went, you couldn’t and can’t do much better. By the time it was over in 2008, with Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo burnt out and ready to do his own show on SiriusXM, the ‘Mike and the Mad Dog’ had achieved iconic status.

Mike’d Up/Mike’s On

Instagram Photo

Mike started his own show in 2008 with Russo gone initially called “Mike’d Up: Mike Francesa on the Fan”, later changed to “Mike’s On: Mike Francesa on the Fan”. Francesa continued the rating success of ‘Mike and the Mad Dog’ and furthered his legend with his trademark aloof bluntness. He also achieved internet notoriety thanks to a heavy stream of prank calls he had to deal with on a daily basis. The heavy amount of calls producers had to fill made it hard to spot and screen prankers. The predicament was made worse when Francesa appeared to fall asleep on the air in 2012, leaving many mischievous callers to joke about it for years to come. One could feel bad for Mike, but the fact is, he brings it on himself what with his impatient arrogance and dismissiveness.

Either way, Mike Francesa is a New York Radio legend and many are happy that despite his initial retirement, he will be back on the air soon.

Scarlett Johansson Instagram: Best Photos & Must-See Pictures

There’s no need for an introduction for Scarlett Johansson, who is easily on the Mount Rushmore of smokeshows from the 21st Century. First bursting onto in 2003 with Lost in Translation, Johansson has been America’s sweetheart for 15 years now. And despite being in our lives for almost two decades, Johansson is still younger than 35-years-old, meaning she’s still got at least another decade of dominance in her. Starring in all those bazillion dollar Marvel Movies doesn’t hurt either, as Johannson became the highest-grossing actress of all time in North America in 2017.

After Lost in Translation (which is awesome, by the way, if you’ve never seen it), Johansson appeared in Love Song for Bobby Long (2004), Match Point (2005), The Prestige (2006) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). In 2010, Johansson debuted on Broadway in A View from the Bridge. For her work, she won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress. Also, she began portraying Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began to establish her as an action star. In 2013, she appeared in Her and Under the Skin, and in 2014, she starred in the science fiction action film Lucy.

Johansson was the highest-grossing actress of 2016, and as we pointed out earlier, became the highest-grossing actress of all time in North America in 2017.
