He was recently nominated by President Trump to head the Department of Veteran Affairs. Amid the allegations, that Jackson denies, he has withdrawn his name to head the VA.

So, how much is Dr. Ronny Jackson worth?

Net worth as of 2018: $850,000

Much of his net worth can be attributed to his work as the White House physician, a spot he has held since 2006. Due to his recent, unfortunate passing, a clip from an Avicii documentary uploaded to his Facebook page shows the 28-year-old Tim Bergling struggling to keep his eyes open. While no cause of death for Berling has been announced, this video remains poignant none the less.

The documentary — entitled Avicii: True Stories — shows the fallen musician informing managers and business associates of his retirement. Avicii retired from touring in 2016 as a result of his poor health.

In a video clip uploaded to Facebook, Avicii is seen both visiting with doctors and riding in the back of a van. While in the van, Bergling can be seen struggling to keep his eyes open as one of his handler’s asks him if he could commit to radio interviews to reassure fans that he was “back on track.”

Overall, between the image of Bergling struggling to do something as simple as keeping his eyes open and the callousness of his colleague to not realize, it’s a tough video to watch.

Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, passed away in Muscat, Oman at the age of 28-years-old on Friday, April 20. Considered a pioneer and icon of the EDM (Electronic Dance Movement), he was best known for his songs, “Le7els”, “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother.” Notably, he passed away just days after he was nominated for a Billboard Music Award. In the wake of his death, fans throughout the world, including some big names, have been offering their condolences online through social media.

NHL Playoffs 2018: 2nd Round East Preview

Following last night’s frantic finish to the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, we are down to eight teams left in the chase for the Stanley Cup. As the second round commences tonight in Washington and Las Vegas, it’s hard not to imagine what’s ahead in the next few weeks after how unexpected the preliminary round turned out. In the East though, there are familiar faces and rivalries that will take to the ice in the second round for a chance to move on to the Conference Final. But before the games get underway, here’s a preview of what’s on tap in the East in round number two.

Tampa Bay Lightning (1) vs. Boston Bruins (2)

https://www.instagram.com/p/BiBE4pzn5so/

What a bloodbath this series is going to be between these two teams. Both teams don’t like each other, and in every regular season game this year, the hatred grew stronger and stronger. Only one point separated these teams in the Atlantic Division this season. This will be the first time since the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals that the two teams have met in the playoffs.

The Lightning disposed of the New Jersey Devils in five games in the first round. Their depth and physicality overwhelmed the Devils, while their superstars — Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos — shined when called upon.

Trade deadline addition, J.T. Miller, was a force in the first round for Tampa. Depth-wise, Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn, Brayden Point, and Yanni Gourde make up just a small portion of a very productive forward corps.

Defensively, the Lightning are loaded on the backend starting with Norris nominee Victor Hedman. Behind Hedman, Mikhail Sergachev is an emerging stud and got his money’s worth in his first playoff experience, Ryan McDonagh, Dan Girardi, Anton Stralman, and Braydon Coburn provide plenty of experience.

In between the pipes, Vezina Trophy candidate, Andrei Vasilevskiy, was a beast in the first round after a rough stretch to end the season. Vasilevskiy wasn’t challenged in round one like the Bruins will do to him, where he only allowed ten goals.

Instagram Photo

Tampa Bay’s opponent, the Boston Bruins, were in a dogfight in the first round. It took a wild seven games to eliminate the Toronto Maple Leafs. Experience won out in the series with the B’s Big Three, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak, carrying the torch.

The Bruins got contributions from up and down the lineup through the first seven games of the playoffs. Forward Jake DeBrusk had a phenomenal series, while his teammate David Krejci, did damage to the Leafs as well. Beyond DeBrusk and Krejci, David Backes, Sean Kuraly, and Danton Heinen all played their roles and had an impact in the series at one point or another. Veteran acquisition Rick Nash had a quiet first round (two points in seven games), but he found ways to make his presence felt. One of their other depth forwards, Ryan Donato, could get the call if things begin to turn for the B’s offense.

Boston’s top defensive pairing, Zdeno Chara, and Charlie McAvoy were solid in the opening round, but a whole new challenge awaits in the high-powered Bolts. Torey Krug was fantastic in round one, and he will have the task of trying to shut down many of Tampa’s dangerous forwards. Kevan Miller, Matt Grzelcyk, and Adam McQuaid got all they could handle against Toronto’s speedy forwards. They should expect the same in the semis.

Tuukka Rask had an up and down first round but came up clutch when his team needed it the most. Rask did well against the Lightning in the regular season, but with the playoffs being an entirely different animal, it will be interesting to see how Rask goes about the task at hand.

Advantage: Offense: Even. Defense: Lightning. Goaltending: Lightning.

Washington Capitals (1) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (3)

https://www.instagram.com/p/BiCKqPKl0wa/

Pittsburgh vs. Washington. Crosby vs. Ovechkin. Malkin vs. Backstrom. The headlines are endless when these two teams meet in the postseason. And in the Crosby-Ovechkin era, it seems whoever comes away victorious in this series, goes on to win the Stanley Cup. The Penguins have won nine of the ten playoff series between the two teams in their histories. Washington is trying to advance to the Conference Final for the first time since 1998 and stop the Pens work for a three-peat.

This will also be the third straight year, the Capitals and Penguins will play each other in the second round.

Speaking of the back-to-back champs, the Penguins took care of their in-state rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers, in six games. Jake Guentzel and Pens captain Sidney Crosby just tortured the Flyers and led the way the entire series.

For the Penguins, it all starts with Crosby. He takes it to another level in the playoffs, and the first round was no different — six goals and 13 points. But, if it’s not Crosby, Evgeni Malkin is a workhorse and just dominates offensively. Following that twosome, the Pens are stacked with the aforementioned Jake Guentzel, Phil Kessel, Patric Hornqvist, Conor Sheary, Bryan Rust, Derick Brassard, and Riley Sheahan. This forward group is laden not only with playoff experience, but they all find to give the team a chance to win.

Pittsburgh is just as packed with experience on defense, as they are on offense. Veteran Kris Letang was dominant in the opening stanza with seven points. Brian Dumoulin found a groove all season and has continued it into the playoffs. Justin Schultz and Olli Maatta have played fittingly well. Big Jamie Oleksiak, who was acquired from Dallas early in the regular season, found his niche on the Pens blueline and has played exceptionally rounding out the defense.

Goaltending wise, Matt Murray is already a two-time Cup winner and seems to take his game to new heights in the postseason. His regular season was forgettable, as was his first round. But it’s hard to argue that Murray isn’t clutch when he needs to prove it.

Instagram Photo

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, this is it for the Capitals. For them to finally get over the hump, they must beat the Penguins.

The rug looked like it was being pulled right from beneath Washington when they went down 2-0 to Columbus in round one. But, the Caps reeled off four straight wins, led by their big guns — Braden Holtby and Alex Ovechkin — to set up another must-see matchup with the Pens.

Just like Pitt, the Caps attack starts and ends with Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin, tore up the regular season as he usually does. And after a slow start against the Blue Jackets, he went off with eight points in six games. Alongside The Great 8, Evgeni Kuznetsov was just as potent in the opening round. T.J. Oshie finally seemed to awaken from his fog, while little known Chandler Stephenson surfaced.

Missing Andre Burakovsky hurts, but Devante Smith-Pelly, Tom Wilson, Jay Beagle, Lars Eller, Brett Connolly and Jakub Vrana round out a robust offense for the Caps.

Defensemen John Carlson was a monster in the first six games, totaling nine points. The Capitals number one d-man was brilliant all season long and has kept that going heading in to round two. In addition to Carlson, Dmitry Orlov is was effective against Columbus, while Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen — who have been on both sides of the rivalry — bolster the Caps blueline. Rookies Christian Djoos, Jakub Jerabek, and Michal Kempny are the last pieces of the Washington sextet, and there’s no doubt they will get everything they can handle.

Braden Holtby exercised one demon in beating Columbus. But if he wants to be defined as a playoff caliber goalie, he must outduel Matt Murray. The former Vezina winner will be the reason if the Caps finally move on to round three.

Advantage: Offense: Penguins. Defense: Even. Goaltending: Capitals.

NHL Playoffs 2018: 2nd Round West Preview

Following last night’s frantic finish to the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, we’re down to eight teams left in the chase for the Stanley Cup. As the second round commences tonight in Washington and Las Vegas, it’s hard not to imagine what’s ahead in the next few weeks after how unexpected the preliminary round turned out. In the West though, there are teams on a mission and fresh blood that will take to the ice in the second round for a chance to move on to the Conference Final. But before the games get underway, here’s a preview of what’s on tap in the West in round number two.

Nashville Predators (1) vs. Winnipeg Jets (2)

Instagram Photo

This is the series everyone has wanted to see in the playoffs since mid-November. It’s almost like the Jets and Predators were destined to meet from the get-go, considering some of the exciting games when they met in the regular season. Some will say they’re upset because this series should have been the Conference Final, but it still has just as much on the line and extremely high expectations as any series in the first two rounds of the playoffs. These two teams were at the top of the NHL all season long, and are ready to put on a show for the ages.

Will start with the Predators, where “Smashville” is ready to get back to the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row. The Preds played a surprisingly hard-fought series against a pesky Avalanche club in the prelims, where they won in six games.

All season long, the Predators proved how balanced of an attack they have in their arsenal, and that didn’t change in their six games against the Avs. Filip Forsberg abused Colorado throughout the opening round, scoring highlight reel goal after highlight reel goal, while Viktor Arvidsson continued to just fly around everyone. Next to Forsberg and Arvidsson, Kevin Fiala, Austin Watson, Colton Sissons, Ryan Johansen, Nick Bonino, and Craig Smith all did great work in the regular season, and have transferred that into the playoffs. The bottom part of Nashville’s attack is strong with Mike Fisher, who are looking to win that elusive Stanley Cup, then Ryan Hartman, and Calle Jarnkrok.

In front of goaltender Pekka Rinne, resides the best defense in the National Hockey League. Norris contender, P.K. Subban, and star Roman Josi, form the top defensive pairing in the league. Mattias Ekholm and Ryan Ellis are severely underrated and played soundly in the first round. Finishing up the blueline, the Preds have an abundance of experience with Alexei Emelin and Yannick Weber.

Last but not least, Pekka Rinne was terrific in goal all season, which earned him another Vezina Trophy nomination. Rinne was quite good in round one, but as he knows from a year ago, the games are only going to get tougher, and the high-flying Jets are in his way.

Instagram Photo

On the other side of the equation, are the Winnipeg Jets. Many believed that their first-round series with the Minnesota Wild would be a long one, that was not the case. The Jets overpowered Minnesota in five games, outscoring them 16-9.

Out of all the teams remaining in the postseason, the Jets might be the most top-heavy. Patrik Laine did wonders in the regular season, and despite only scoring two goals versus the Wild, he was dangerous anytime he had the puck on his stick.

But Laine is only one of the many weapons that Jets assess. Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler, Paul Stastny, Bryan Little all are big-bodied forwards that can wear down the opposition. Winnipeg’s youth on offense — Andrew Copp, Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Joel Armia — all took major strides this year and were efficient in the five-game win over the Wild. The end of the Jets forward corps does have a good dynamic as well with Brandon Tanev.

On defense, the Jets built for years for the blueline that now exists. Throughout the year, and in the opening round, Dustin Byfuglien and Tyler Myers played like bulls in a china shop. Jacob Trouba — who after recent seasons now doesn’t have to carry the load — has been used on both sides of the puck. Ben Chiarot and Josh Morrissey have been one of the best third-pairing duos throughout the postseason.

No one could have expected goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to come in and have the impact he did. Now a Vezina Trophy finalist, Hellebuyck was magnificent when handed the starting gig and has kept the motor going with round two on the way.

Advantage: Offense: Jets. Defense: Predators. Goaltending: Even.

Vegas Golden Knights (1) vs. San Jose Sharks (3)

Instagram Photo

I don’t think anyone could have imagined how this series would have come to fruition. Both the Knights and the Sharks swept their opening round series, Vegas beating Los Angeles and San Jose defeating Anaheim. These two Pacific Division rivals could be on the verge of a new rivalry as this series gets underway. This will be the first time these two meet in the postseason, but many should acknowledge that it’s only been two seasons since the Sharks were in the Cup Final and that just 14 months ago, the Golden Knights were slim picking in the expansion draft.

We’ve said it many of times since the regular season, but the Vegas Golden Knights are writing the greatest story in sports. Being the underdog in round one, Vegas was not afraid of the playoff spotlight, and they shockingly ousted the LA Kings in four games.

There wasn’t much surprise that the rag-tag group of Knights forwards continued to benefit from having a chip on their shoulder. William Karlsson, who went from six goals to 40-plus, gave the Kings all types of difficulty and scored more clutch goals in the process. His teammate, James Neal, continues to embrace his role as a leader and find ways to contribute offensively. Jonathan Marchessault, Reilly Smith, David Perron, Cody Eakin and Tomas Tatar play with a lot of speed and forecheck like mad. Along with that group, Alex Tuch, Ryan Carpenter, and Tomas Nosek provide sound depth and scoring touch.

Ryan Reeves and William Carrier also provide depth and some grit to the offense and aren’t afraid to mix it up if need be.

Vegas’s defense, everyone thought would struggle. Instead, they’ve turned in to one of the finest in the league. Underrated Nate Schmidt impressed throughout the season and is on the verge of breaking out in the second round. The same sentiment can be used for Shea Theodore who was the leading point-getter for Vegas in round one. Brayden McNabb, Collin Miller, and captain Deryk Engelland round out a very quick group of defensemen.

Puckstopper Marc-Andre Fleury was nearly flawless in the first round. As a three-time Stanley Cup champion, Fleury knows the mental and physical toll it takes to win another round. No reason he can’t do it again.

Instagram Photo

Quietly, but in a dominant fashion, the San Jose Sharks went down the stretch of the season on a torrid pace. They didn’t seem to slow down in the preliminary round as they extinguished the Anaheim Ducks in four games. No one could have expected a sweep of that nature or the fact that the Sharks would only allow four goals in the series.

A lot of people slept on the Sharks attack this season until it was too late. And in the first round, it was the usual names, Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski, that led the way and gave the Ducks D all sorts of headaches. Acquired at the deadline, forward Evander Kane has been a godsend for San Jose. Kane was also impressive in the first round, just like unknown forward Marcus Sorensen. Tomas Hertl, Joonas Donskoi, Kevin LaBanc, Timo Meier, and Melker Karlsson elevated their status in the second half of the year and in the first four postseason games. Bottoming out the Sharks attack, veterans Mikael Boedker and Eric Fehr still have some left in the tank, while Chris Tierney is a good fourth-line guy.

The Sharks have been good for years, and a lot of that credit can go to who they possess on defense. Brent Burns still plays at a Norris caliber level, this year not as much, but has looked that way in the playoffs. Marc-Edouard Vlasic has never been given the praise he truly deserves and did yeomen’s work in the first round. Behind Burns and Vlasic, Brenden Dillon is quietly becoming a sturdy defenseman. Paul Martin and Justin Braun solidify a well-balanced blueline.

In net, Martin Jones was tremendous in the first round including a shutout in game one. He’s right up there with some of the league’s elite. This round will just be another chance to prove that once again.

Advantage: Offense: Sharks. Defense: Golden Knights. Goaltending: Golden Knights.

Best NBA Playoff Moments From April 25: LeBron, Russ, Raptors, & Rockets

0
0

On Wednesday, April 25, the NBA Playoffs spoiled us. LeBron won a game on his own volition, Russell Westbrook and Paul George tipped the scales, DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry rejuvenated the Raptors, and the Rockets sent the Timberwolves home. Between an otherworldly buzzer-beater and a pair of performances for the ages came a series-tipping Game 5 and an elimination. Let’s review.

LeBron vs. the World

What do you even say about this? It’s just… stunning. LeBron James lifted the wilted Cavs over the Indiana Pacers on a buzzer-beating three-pointer last night, securing a 3-2 series lead. This beauty may go down as one of the most memorable plays of his career.

Instagram Photo

But what about the defensive play that led to the shot? After Domantas Sabonis tied the game with at 95 with 33.6 seconds left, LeBron–credit Thaddeus Young’s patient defense–turned the ball over on the Cavs’ final full possession of regulation. After a Pacers timeout, Victor Oladipo hovered around half-court until the shot clock hit 5 and the game clock 8. LeBron switched onto Oladipo, tracking him into the paint. Oladipo moved left, he and LeBron jumped together, and what happened next may have given Andre Iguodala vertigo. Oladipo, who maybe should have dunked instead, saw his layup pinned to the left side of the backboard briefly before LeBron seized control of the ball and called time. Plan? “Give me the ball.

(Legally, it’s a goaltend. Plain and simple. But much to Indiana’s chagrin, the refs can’t review anything not called on the floor. But, come on: even if the goaltend were called, would LeBron not have taken the same exact shot with the same result?)

Instagram Photo

King James, who finished the contest with 44 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists, passed Jerry West on Wednesday night to become the player with the second-most 40-point playoff games all-time. As of last night, LeBron has notched 21 of those; Michael Jordan holds the record with 38. Three days earlier, LeBron joined Jordan as the only two players to have 100 30-point playoff games, and LeBron is all but slated to overtake Jordan’s record of 109 this year–depending, of course, on how far he can drag his teammates. To put it simply, LeBron has entered territory that will make it plenty more difficult for doubters to question his GOAT status as the latter years of his career ebb away.

Instagram Photo

The team around LeBron remains an asterisk, if not a red flag. Since his 24-point venture in the Game 1 blowout loss, LeBron is averaging 37.5 points. The next highest scorers? In Games 2 and 3, Kevin Love with 15 and 19, respectively. In Games 4 and 5, Kyle Korver with 18 and 19, respectively. Love, the team’s second All-Star, is shooting at a 32.8% clip for the series. He scored five points in Game 4. The extent of his thumb injury remains foggy, but he may as well be sitting. Tristan Thompson has played fewer than ten minutes over five games. J.R. Smith has been shooting terribly inconsistently, and came up with a grand total of zero points in Game 5. Love, Thompson, and Smith are LeBron’s only remaining championship teammates from 2016, and not a single one of them is performing with postseason intensity (if they’re performing at all).

Jeff Green, who was shaping up to be an offensive spark and undercover perimeter threat, is contributing 4.2 points and 2.4 rebounds. Meanwhile, the Cavs’ trade-deadline acquisitions–George Hill, Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson, and Larry Nance Jr.–aren’t much more impressive. Point guard Hill missed Games 4 and 5 with a back issue, and played about 20 minutes in each of the first three, where he averaged 8.6 points, 1.7 assists, and two turnovers. Hood, Clarkson, and Nance are averaging 17.4 points, combined, off the bench. The Cavs have reshuffled their starting lineup three times in Round 1, and inserting José Calderón for Hill has been a net-positive, but it’s not like he’s adding much to the scoreboard.

Instagram Photo

LeBron is leading the Cavs in scoring, rebounds, assists, blocks, and minutes. He makes it look easy, but at 33 years old, he needs help. It’s well-known now that LeBron’s been conserving “pockets of energy” in order to stay fresh through his 42.7 minutes of play per night, but when the four other guys on the court produce as if they’re conserving all of their own energy, winning is only so sustainable. LeBron’s buzzer-beater marked his first three-pointer of the night and the Cavs’ first field goal of the fourth quarter since the 7:19 mark. While the Pacers were making a run, the Cavaliers subsisted on LeBron’s free throw shooting. While his making all 15 of his attempts at the line is actually a fantastic sign–free throw shooting has long been LeBron’s weakness–it goes without saying that his teammates need to be making field goals, instead of relying on lucking out.

Instagram Photo

Nevermind what the scoreboard tells you: the Pacers didn’t play well in Game 5. Oladipo had 12 points on 2-for-15 shooting, and he has now shot 12-for-50 since Game 3. Indiana’s scoring leader was Sabonis off the bench; Myles Turner and Thad Young picked up five fouls each and had just seven rebounds between them. The Pacers have not once cracked 100 points in the series. Credit Cleveland’s defense for the latter if you can muster it, but overall, the Cavs are going down to the wire in every game against an Indiana team that is not playing anywhere near its best. LeBron might be able to save the day more often than not, but he really shouldn’t have to.

OKC Evades Elimination

Instagram Photo

It only gets increasingly more difficult to describe the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team, which over the past week has looked to be an absolute bust of an experiment, pulled off the third-largest comeback win in NBA Playoffs history on Wednesday night. Down 25 points with 8:34 left in the third quarter, Chesapeake Energy Arena had become Chesapeake Apathy Arena. A smattering of boos, the players’ dejected body language, and an absolutely relentless opponent had OKC looking absolutely finished. No one would have blamed Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz for cackling openly on the sideline, for thinking ahead to Round 2 against the Rockets, for fantasizing about the next few days of rest. This clobbering was nothing extraordinary, after all. The Jazz were about to clock their fourth consecutive win over the Thunder, who maybe, after all that talk, were never actually “built for the Playoffs”.

Before he could even give the motley crew Utah anti-stars a second to crack a smile, Russell Westbrook entered some sort of unearthly cocoon and metamorphosed into the Monstar version of himself.

Instagram Photo

At halftime, Utah led Oklahoma City 56-41. Jae Crowder had 17 points on 4-for-8 three-point shooting. Joe Ingles had 14 on 5-for-8 three-point shooting; Westbrook had 12 points on 5-for-16 and three turnovers, and Paul George had 13 points on 4-for-10 with three fouls and two turnovers. In the first few minutes of the third, the Jazz toyed as usual with OKC’s perimeter defense, draining four straight threes with ease. Crowder was having himself a career night from beyond the arc.

Instagram Photo

On the other end, watching Russell Westbrook shoot three-pointers was anxiety-inducing. He missed two in the first half, unsurprisingly; while he may have stopped chucking them up recklessly during the regular season, anything goes when he’s in desperation mode. So watching him pull up from 25 feet out when on the wrong end of a 71-47 deficit was like watching OKC’s fate sealed in slow motion. Until, of course, the ball cascaded ever so elegantly through the basket. Well–lucky shot, because at the other end, Joe Ingles is about to add one more made open three to the collection he’s been gifted by the Oklahoma City defense game after game after game, and put this thing to bed. But… Ingles misses. So Russ comes down the other end and shoots again, and there’s no way he’ll make another 25-footer. Until he does. A 25-point lead is 18 now, which is really nothing, because this is the Jazz! They’ve been exposing the very worst of the Thunder for four straight games!

But 18 became 15. 15 slimmed down to 10. 10 was sliced in half. 5 became 3. And it was only fitting that a Westbrook three tied the game up at 78 with 35.9 remaining in the third quarter. The Oklahoma City Thunder had just completed a 32-7 run, completely flipping the script on their death march. Russ accounted for 20, while George had the remaining 12. With their backs against the wall, they’d finally found the type of scoring rhythm they’d lacked all year. Notably, Carmelo Anthony sat on the bench and watched. Westbrook and George, neither of whom sat during the second half, continued their barrage into the fourth, accounting for 22 of OKC’s 29 fourth-quarter points. In a 33-point turnaround, the Thunder managed an impossible win.

Instagram Photo

When Rudy Gobert exited the game with his fourth personal foul early in the third, the paint was suddenly a 12′ x 15′ land of opportunity. Westbrook and George went to work. Playoff P and the reigning MVP were driving, drawing contact, and drinking up the absence of Utah’s defensive anchor. It wasn’t long before Utah’s big-in-waiting, Derrick Favors, picked up his own fourth and fifth fouls. Losing their rim protectors, the Jazz began playing out of control and without direction. A major disruption to their defensive flow led to erratic offense, while Westbrook and George managed to stay cool and controlled. Heightened court awareness and an uptick in energy led to deflections, yielding transition opportunities. OKC assumed a level of defensive focus they’d failed to attain in Salt Lake City. A foil to Game 4, OKC’s headliners channeled their aggression appropriately; there was no need to waste energy scuffling with Gobert, Crowder, or Ingles this time around. They’d purged the Jazz from their heads.

Russell Westbrook and Paul George spearheaded one of the tremendous playoff performances by a duo in years, and possibly ever. That doesn’t mean they can coast into Salt Lake City on a high. There should be concern, and there should be questions: why were they down 25 at home in a closeout game to begin with? What if Russ and Paul freeze up in the second half of Game 6, just like they did in the first four games? Do they swap out an ineffective Corey Brewer for Alex Abrines? What is Melo’s role going forward? Postgame, head coach Billy Donovan–a bit agitated, likely recovering from the anxiety of an all-but-confirmed first-round exit–implored the media, “I don’t look at it like we’re carrying any momentum. We’ve got to go in there and we’ve got to play better. This is a team that had us down by 25 points.”

Instagram Photo

Oklahoma City is down 3-2. If they want a chance at the Conference Semifinals, they need to start fresh on Friday night while drawing on the same winning tactics they employed on Wednesday. They’ll need to take Gobert out of the paint, keep Mitchell out of his element, guard Joe Ingles, and let Rubio and Crowder shoot their hearts out. They’ll need to pass the ball. They’ll need to make shots. Might sound crazy, but as long as Oklahoma City Thunder plays defense and offense, they have a shot at this.

Raptors Prevail, Rockets Advance

Instagram Photo

In other news, the Raptors shut up the cynics if just for a moment as they picked up a 3-2 series lead over the Washington Wizards. DeMar DeRozan dominated the first half and finished with 32 points, while Kyle Lowry contributed a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists. Delon Wright was an unexpected but pivotal figure down the stretch with 11 points in the fourth quarter, and 20 total off the bench. The Wizards kept it close but fizzled out in the fourth quarter, unable to make an impactful field goal in the final four minutes. John Wall had 26 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, and three blocks in a most noble effort; Bradley Beal added 20 points of his own. The teams return to Washington for Game 6, where the Wizards will look to force a Game 7. They have the trend on their side: the home team has won every game of this series so far.

Instagram Photo

While the Minnesota Timberwolves put up a halfway decent effort on Wednesday night, James Harden and the Houston Rockets pulled away in the third quarter to seal their 4-1 series victory en route to the Western Conference Semifinals. Harden scored 14 points in the third, while Minnesota put up just 15 in the same amount of time–which may have been just as bad as Houston’s 50-point third quarter two days prior. Harden notched 24 points and 12 assists, but Clint Capela stole the show with 26 points, 15 rebounds, and the series-clinching defense on Karl-Anthony Towns. Chris Paul had 12 points and nine assists. Towns, ironically, had his best game of the series, putting up 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting and collecting 14 rebounds. Too little, too late. Jimmy Butler scored just eight points before conceding to his nagging injuries. The ageless Jamal Crawford scored 20 off the bench for Minnesota, and contributed the most exciting moment of the game when he stood menacingly over former teammate Paul and stepped over him in Iversonian fashion.

Raquel Spencer, a 28-year-old English teacher at Northwest Whitfield High School teacher, has been arrested after she was found to have heroin on school property. Spencer is also accused of carrying out a year-long relationship with one of her students, being previously charged with sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the investigation into Spencer’s drug use began when three teachers told Assistant Principal Robin Baggett that Spencer could not carry a conversation, was talking rapidly and changing subjects.

Spencer was then escorted to the office where the school resource officer asked her if she would consent to a search. Spencer consented to the search and the officer found an illegal substance which led to her arrest.

At this time, there is no word on how Spencer’s alleged sexual relationship came up or how much heroin was allegedly found when she was searched.

She submitted her resignation on Wednesday, April 25.

Miley Cyrus, born November 23, 1992, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. As a teenager, Cyrus rose to fame by starring as the character Miley Stewart on the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana in 2006. Hannah Montana ran for four seasons, and afterward, Cyrus embarked on a professional music career.

As a musician, Cyrus has earned five number-one and eleven top-ten albums on the US Billboard 200. Cyrus has released “Meet Miley Cyrus” in 2007, pop rock album “Breakout” in 2008, the EP “The Time of Our Lives” in 2009, the dance-pop Can’t Be Tamed in 2010, the hip-hop-influenced Bangerz in 2013 and the country-pop album “Younger Now” in 2017.

Despite where her career may head from here, Cyrus may always be remembered for her actions from about 2013 to 2014, specifically her performance at the 2013 VMA’s with Robin Thicke, which gave her a wild-child image she may never shake.

In the years since Miley has reeled it in and settled down, but we’ll already remember her for her primetime craziness during 2013. Oh, and for “Wrecking Ball”. “Wrecking Ball” will always be a banger.

NFL Draft Memes: Funny Photos, Best Jokes & Images

The NFL draft is here folks. Besides the actual season, what I looked forward to the most, is the draft. No matter what team you are a fan of, all hope for the future seems bright on draft day (unless maybe you’re a Browns fan). NFL teams sift through binders and binders full of stats, measurables, and game tape. They comb over answers players gave to ridiculous questions like “Would you rather be a cat or a dog?”, “Is your mom a prostitute?”, “Would you share your browser history?”, “Boxers or Briefs?”; you name it, and an NFL scout has asked the question. For everyone’s reading pleasure my answers are 1. Dog, obviously 2. I pray not 3. HELL, NO 4. Trick question, boxers for casually lounging, briefs for any type of athletic activity. Now that’s out of the way, I instead of sifting through binders of players info have sifted through the wild world of the internet to present you with the best NFL draft memes.

What is the NFL Draft?

The NFL Draft is when all 32 teams in the National Football League decide who they will select as the future of their franchise. They choose from a massive draft pool and pick the players they believe are best suited for their team. Futures are created, dreams are made, and massive paychecks are guaranteed on this night.

There are also plenty of surprises during the draft, as many people speculate on who each team will select but at the end of the day, only a select group of people actually know what the hell is going on.

So, to help you keep your sanity as you prepare for the draft, enjoy some great memes.

The Cleveland Browns are on the clock with the first overall pick for the second straight year, but this year it’s different, as Cleveland also holds the fourth overall pick.

The clear-cut, best player in the draft is Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, but the Browns also need a franchise quarterback. Will they pick a quarterback first overall? Or will they go Barkley and pick a QB at four? A running back hasn’t gone first overall since 1995. There is a lot of intrigue around this draft, and we’ll learn everything we want to know on Thursday.

Lehigh University Fraternity Kicked Off Campus For Alcohol Abuse

The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity commonly referred to as “Pike” at Lehigh University has lost its recognition for violating “multiple” policies. According to reports members and alumni served alcohol to underage members while the chapter was under investigation for hazing. Pike is the fourth Lehigh Fraternity to be kicked off campus since July 2017.

According to Lehigh Greeks, the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity was put on “disciplinary deferred dissolution” on March 22 after an incident on March 3 in which the chapter violated multiple alcohol policies.

The fraternity will be dissolved, effective April 17, 2018 through August 1, 2020.

via Lehigh Greeks:

After careful deliberation, the Committee dissolved the fraternity effective April 17, 2018 through August 1, 2020. Dissolution is the loss of University recognition and the privilege to use the University’s name or represent it in any capacity. In addition, the chapter will lose all privileges to use University equipment or facilities, and this includes access to group housing.

The chapter will be eligible to return to Lehigh at the end of the dissolution period, provided the campus is open to expansion and is subject to recognition processes in place at that time. Should affiliated students fail to comply with sanctions and operate as an underground or unrecognized group without University recognition, oversight, and approval, this would jeopardize and further delay the chapter’s ability to return to campus.

The chapter retains the right to appeal the decision, and the Office of Student Conduct & Community has informed the fraternity leadership of the deadlines and process for appeals as outlined in the Lehigh University Code of Conduct. If an appeal is submitted by the Friday, April 20, 2018 deadline, the Disciplinary Appeals Committee will meet to make a determination shortly thereafter. If the appeal is denied, the conduct hearing outcome will be upheld. If the appeal is granted, a new conduct hearing would occur.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

This is the latest major fraternity suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

LaMelo Ball Net Worth 2018: How Much Is LaMelo Worth?

LaMelo Ball is a 16-year-old professional basketball player who most recently played for Vytautas Prienai–Birštonas in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). He is the youngest son of media personality and founder and CEO of Big Baller Brand (BBB), LaVar Ball. He has two older brothers, LiAngelo, 19, and Lonzo, 20, who’s a point guard for the LA Lakers. Both LaMelo and brother LiAngelo were recently pulled out of the Lithuanian League by their father, LaVar, with just two games left in the 2018 season. The two brothers reportedly left the league because of injuries and issues their father had with the LKL coach.

LaMelo Ball Net Worth As Of 2018: $700K

LaMelo has his dad’s BBB to thank for the majority of his worth. In 2017, BBB released LaMelo’s signature shoe called the Melo Ball 1 that currently sells for a cool $395.  He has also starred in the reality series, Ball in the Family, which premiered exclusively on Facebook in September 2017.

Early Life

Instagram Photo

LaMelo was born on August 22, 2001, in Chino Hills, California to Lavar and Tina Ball. Both Lavar and Tina were former college basketball players, having met at Cal State LA. After college, LaVar played football overseas as a tight end for the London Monarchs in the World League of American Football.

2014

Instagram Photo

Growing up with two older brothers, LaMelo mainly played against opponents several years older than him. When he was 13, he scored 29 points in a high school summer league game, facing kids who were 16 and 17. USA Today High School Sports compared Ball’s ability to “dominate” older competition as reminiscent of LeBron James. Ball verbally committed to play college basketball for UCLA before he started high school, at the age of 13. He was the third and final Ball brother to commit to UCLA.

2015-2017

Instagram Photo

Not a lot of kids start high school knowing where they’re going to college, much less already committed to playing a sport at a top D1 school. Freshman year must have been tough on him. The team closed the season with a perfect 35–0 record. Ball, who averaged 16.4 points and 3.8 assists, made the MaxPreps Boys’ Basketball Freshman All-American First Team. In his sophomore year, Ball lost his first game late in the season, ending Chino Hills 60-game win streak. The following game LaMelo caught national attention when he scored 92 points in a game, the second most in California HS basketball history.

2017-Present

Instagram Photo

In December 2017, both LaMelo and LiAngelo signed on to play professionally overseas in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). The decision meant that LaMelo would not be able to play in the NCAA. In April 2018, LaVar pulled both of his sons out of the LKL, citing injuries and disagreements with the coach as the reason for the exit. LaMelo is one of the most polarizing high school celebrity athletes. In reference to the public’s love/hate attitude towards the young star, Rivals.com said, “The LaMelo Ball phenomenon is the closest thing to Justin Bieber on a basketball court.” There’s no denying his high profile status though. As of April 2018, LaMelo has 3.7 million followers on Instagram. He and the entire Ball family have a penchant for the spotlight. If LaVar keeps his media persona and the Ball brothers reach a fraction of their supposed potential, the skies the limit for this Kardashian-like basketball clan.

Oh my god! Wait what?! The most unimaginable feature will be making its way to your most vulnerable gadget on Friday, April 27. And that is — the newly released album, “Last Man Standing” — written by one of the most iconic and prolific country musician’s, Willie Nelson. So not to get thrown off by Jon Bon Jovi’s smashing hit song, “Last Man Standing”, from September 2015. Anyways, there’s some great news — you don’t have to wait till the album is slotted for release — you can stream the official release on npr.org. Hooray!

‘Shotgun Willie’ made the ‘bombshell’ announcement on Friday, February 16. And now the time has almost arrived for that special day. In what way?

Well, the album gets released two days before he turns 85-years-old and this 11-track album is described in the release as “one of Willie’s most personal and introspective albums to-date.” ‘Last Man Standing’ deals with not only themes of mortality and aging — but also watching good friends die. As I’m sure you recall — just a year ago — his latest album, ‘God’s Problem Child’, also dealt with loneliness and struggles.

Country and pop star Keith Urban will unleash his newest album “Grafitti U” later this week. Urban made the news official back on January 17th when he announced his 59-date scheduled “Grafitti U” tour during a surprise performance at Nashville’s Exit/In. The Whangarei, New Zealand native hasn’t released an album since 2016, when he unveiled “Ripcord”, which received a nomination for Best Country Album at the 59th Grammy Awards. As for “Grafitti U”, we’ve got everything you need to know about the highly-anticipated album. From where to stream it, to where you’ll be able download all the newest tracks.

According to Billboard, details of “Graffiti U” were broken down to a tee by Urban himself, because Urban wanted to reflect on his penchant for living and creating in the moment. It was also revealed that Urban juggled a lot of material, and spent an inordinate amount of time revising songs with his production team, as a means to focus on the distinction of each track.

“Grafitti U” will be Urban’s 11th album since 1991, along with “Keith Urban” (1991), “Keith Urban in The Ranch”, “Keith Urban” (1999), “Golden Road”, “Be Here”, “Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing”, “Defying Gravity”, “Get Closer”, “Fuse”, and “Ripcord”.

Finishing the final touches of “Grafitti U”, Urban prompted the album as a representation of his creative approach and the unique bond he has with his fans.

“Graffiti has more of an artistic expression connotation,” Urban said about the album, “A purer artistic expression, which is really what record-making is for me.”

Post Malone dropped his second studio album, “Beerbongs and Bentleys” on Friday, April 27, 2018. The second album from Malone has been long awaited since he put out three singles off of the album in late 2017 and early 2018. Malone had been teasing the project for months, putting out the tracklist only nine days ago. The album is set to have a number of people featured on it including Nicki Minaj, YG, G-Eazy, Swae Lee as well as Ty Dolla $ign and 21 Savage from the tracks that we’ve already heard. Malone himself had been fairly quiet about it on social media until late, spending his time tweeting about video games instead.

On April 17, Malone was nominated for three 2018 Billboard Music Awards, including Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Rap Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album for his first album “Stoney.”

“Beerbongs & Bentleys” is set to have 18 tracks and a runtime of 64 and a half minutes. Like many upcoming artists, Malone looks to avoid the classic sophomore slump.

NFL Draft 2018: Best Players Available On Day 2

0
0

Round 1 of the 2018 NFL Draft started with a bang on Thursday, April 26 with the Cleveland Browns running to the podium to select Heisman Trophy-winner Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick. The first round finished in similar fashion when another AFC North team, the Baltimore Ravens, traded to No. 32 to take Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson to close out the day.

It was a wild night full of trades and surprises, and we still have six rounds of excitement left as the draft continues throughout the next 48 hours.

On Friday night, the draft resumes with Rounds 2 and 3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as teams across the league look to strengthen their draft classes and find the next potential NFL star. While the players remaining didn’t hear their names called in the opening round, there is still plenty of talent remaining on the board at premium positions.

Who are the best players remaining as we prepare for Rounds 2 and 3? Let’s take a look.

10. Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State

Gesicki is the kind of tight end who can line up in the slot and create a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. As the top tight end remaining on the board, his eventual landing spot will come down to what type of offensive player teams are looking for.

If you want a tight end who can stay in and block, Gesicki is not your pick as he has a long way to go in the blocking game. But if you want a big-bodied redzone threat who can stretch the field down the seam, the former Nittany Lion is exactly the type of addition you will be looking for.

9. Connor Williams, OG, Texas

This year’s draft class lacked any top-tier offensive tackle prospects, but there is plenty of value early in Round 2 if you are looking to protect your quarterback. Williams is a quick offensive tackle who excels as a pass blocker, but he does need to strengthen up to become more of a factor in the run blocking game.

But if you’re a team running a zone-blocking scheme that needs a fast-footed tackle to get in front of the play, keep your eye on Williams when Day 2 kicks off.

8. James Daniels, C, Iowa

There were multiple centers taken in the first round on Thursday night, with Frank Ragnow of Arkansas heading to the Detroit Lions and Ohio State’s Billy Price landing with the Cincinnati Bengals in back-to-back picks. Surprisingly, Daniels, who is considered the best of the bunch by many did not hear his name called.

That sets a lucky team up for an early steal in Round 2.

Daniels is an incredibly strong and physical blocker who likes to bully defensive linemen. If you’re looking for a strong run blocker who can use his hands and played in an NFL style proram, look no further than the former Hawkeyes standout.

7. Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia

Chubb’s Georgia Bulldogs running mate Sony Michel heard his name called with the No. 31 overall pick on Thursday night and it shouldn’t be long until Chubb comes off the board on Friday night.

Chubb does have some injury concerns and is more of a one-dimensional back, but he is a strong, downhill runner that can bring a certain type of physicality to the running game. Add Chubb into an offense that also has a speedster in the backfield and you could have a formidable 1-2 punch moving forward.

6. Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M

Just two wide receivers were selected in Round 1, with D.J. Moore of Maryland heading to the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons scooping up Alabama wideout Calvin Ridley. That speaks to the depth of the position and team’s confidence that they can find a premium pass catcher on Day 2. Kirk is expected to be one of those guys who is taken early.

It didn’t take long for Kirk to make his impact felt at Texas A&M, immediately becoming one of the team’s top players and their best receiver. Along with being a threat on the outside and his ability to run solid routes, Kirk brings an added dynamic on special teams as a high-level return man.

5. Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College

Landry was considered a borderline first-round selection but ultimately was not one of the first 32 players to come off the board in this year’s draft. However, as the best pass rusher left on the board, it shouldn’t be long until the former Boston College star learns where he will be beginning his professional career.

Landry was once considered as a potential top 15 pick, but an underwhelming senior campaign led to a drop in his stock. Landry is a well-rounded pass rusher and is not afraid to lay the wood on whoever has the ball in their hands. Landry could make an immediate impact as a situational pass rusher for any team.

4. Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU

Like Kirk, Sutton was hurt by the lack of wide receivers to come off the board in the opening round. Sutton adds a dynamic threat in the redzone thanks to his 6-foot-4 frame which he uses every inch of. Sutton uses his body well to box out defenders and has a history of rising above opposing defensive backs to come down with some impressive one-handed grabs.

While he may not be the fastest wide receiver, Sutton can be a guy who consistently moves the chains for a first down and helps your offense light up the scoreboard.

3.Will Hernandez, OG, UTEP

With so many offensive guards flying off the board in Round 1, it was a surprise that UTEP’s Will Hernandez is still on the board. Hernandez was a potential top 20 pick and is the type of offensive lineman who brings a nasty attitude to the trenches.

Hernandez can hold his own in pass protection with a strong base, but he truly excels when he gets to unleash his strength as a run blocker. Hernandez is not afraid to run through any oncoming defender and is the type of blocker who will play all the way through the whistle.

2. Derrius Guice, RB, LSU

If there is a running back-needy team hoping to add to their backfield early in Round 2, LSU’s Guice is the man to target. There has been talk of concern about his personality and potential off-field issues, but his talent speaks for itself.

Guice has experience in the top conference in college football and has had no problem carrying the load for the Tigers offense. When he burst onto the scene in 2016 as an injury replacement for current Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette, it was clear that Guice was destined for stardom. With his good vision and downhill style, Guice has every bit of talent to become a feature back in the pros.

1. Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa

Once considered the top cornerback prospect in the 2018 NFL Draft, Jackson should be one of the first few players to come off the board when the draft resumes on Friday night. As a player who played in Kirk Ferentz’s program, Jackson should be ready to play from Day 1 and knows how to fit in a well-structured system.

A knock on Jackson is his speed, but he makes up for that with his insticts, touhness and ability to make big plays in zone coverage. If Jackson has an opportunity to get his hands on the ball, he often comes down with an interception thanks to his impressive hands for a defensive back.

Jackson has all of the makings of a No. 1 cornerback.
