Angelica Eclar, a 46-year-old former music teacher at an Escondido, California private school, is facing multiple felony charges of sexual misconduct with a minor student off campus.

According to reports, Eclar, who taught music at Escondido Adventist Academy, faces six charges of sexual misconduct. The six charges are for six different alleged encounters that occurred between December 1, 2017, and January 22 2018, while she was an employee at Escondido Adventist Academy.

NBC San Diego reports that of the six instances include one at Eclar’s apartment, one in a lifeguard tower in Oceanside, and four more in Eclar’s car.

Escondido Adventist Academy Principal Larry Rich released a statement saying that Eclar was immediately placed on leave after the school first learned of the incident:

“After hearing of an issue that involved Angelica Eclar, former music teacher at Escondido Adventist Academy, and a student, Eclar was immediately placed on leave. School administrators contacted authorities of the incident and have fully cooperated with them about the investigation.”

If Eclar is convicted, she faces to 60 years behind bars and will be designated as a sexual predator.

Eclar is just the latest teacher to be charged for an alleged relationship with a teenager student.  Over the course of just a few months, educators across the country were arrested for entering into an inappropriate relationship with their students, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers, LaToya Parker, Florida teacher Caroline Lawson, 26-year-old Allyson Moran and Katherine Ross Ridenhour were all arrested on similar charges.

The list goes on to include 22-year-old Oklahoma science teacher Hunter Day, 28-year-old teacher Megan Kotarski, 23-year-old history teacher Michelle Schiffer, 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy, special education teacher Jordan Ondish and 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick have all been allegedly carrying on inappropriate relationships with their students.

In addition, 31-year-old Nicole Marie Andrews, 32-year-old Jessica Langford, 29-year-old Andrea Baber, 27-year-old Robin Dunlap, 27-year-old Jennifer Olajire-Aro have also been charged with these charges.

42-year-old Heather Butts of California was arrested on a second-degree felony charge, Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student, Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016 and 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship. 27-year-old Brittany Zamora from Arizona was arrested on similar charges. Keri Hoffman, 35, was also arrested for an alleged relationship with a student.

Early Life

Mirai Nagasu was born in Montebello, California and raised in Arcadia, California. Her parents own Restaurant Kiyosuzu, a Japanese sushi restaurant in Arcadia. Nagasu began skating at the age of 5, citing Yuna Kim, Michelle Kwan, and Mao Asada as her influences. She showed a knack for the sport early on and by the time she was 12, she was competing at the novice level at the U.S. Championships.

2006-2008

For the 2006-2007 season, when she was 13, Nagasu moved up to the Junior level nationally. She won the U.S. Nationals and won silver at Junior Worlds. By the 2007-2008 season, she moved up to the senior level nationally. She won the short program at the U.S. nationals but was unable to compete at the international level because she did not meet the minimum age requirement. Her win at nationals made her the first skater since 1938 to win back-to-back U.S. junior and senior ladies’ titles. She also became the second-youngest American senior ladies’ champion in history, after Tara Lipinski.

2008-2017

By the 2008-2009 season, Nagasu, now 15, was able to move up to the senior level internationally. She struggled throughout the season however due to multiple foot injuries. In 2010, she won the short program at the U.S. Nationals, and was subsequently invited to participate in the 2010 Winter Olympics. During the 2010 Winter Olympics, she placed sixth in the short program. She placed fifth in the free skate and fourth overall, earning new personal bests for the free skate score and combined total. The following years she was unable to repeat the early success she had in her career, and unfortunately did not make an appearance in the 2014 Olympics.

2017-Present

By 2018, Nagasu had reinvigorated her career. Nagasu competed at the 2018 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and won the silver after placing second in both the short program and the free skate. As a result, she was named to her second Olympics as part of the 2018 US Winter Olympic Team. Nagasu competed in the free skate portion of the figure skating team event. During the team event free skate, Nagasu became the first American woman, and third woman overall, to land a triple axel at an Olympic Games. She won a bronze medal in the team event as part of the U.S. team and placed 10th in the Ladies event.

A fraternity at the University of Texas at Arlington is being investigated for allegedly providing alcohol to minors. As a result of the investigation, Phi Delta Theta was asked to halt all activities on campus. This is the third fraternity this semester to receive disciplinary action from the university.

One of the suspended fraternities, Phi Gamma Delta, is suspended until 2021, while the other, Sigma Phi Epsilon, is suspended until 2020. Both fraternities are said to have provided alcohol to minors, with one allegedly also providing access to drugs.

Sana Syed, a spokeswoman for UTA, said the fraternity is being investigated “for an unregistered event that includes the allegation of alcohol to minors.” Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters in Ohio issued a statement saying it is “aware of the investigation … for risk management violations.”

“Since learning of the investigation, Phi Delta Theta has been working in conjunction with university officials and local alumni to conduct an investigation. Phi Delta Theta will hold the chapter and members accountable for any violations of fraternity and university risk management policies,” the statement read.

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

The Marvelous Mar-Vell

While not exactly a household name anymore the first Captain Marvel, the Kree warrior Mar-Vell, was a major Silver Age character in the 1960’s. While Kree are primarily shown to be a race of blue humanoids (see Ronan the Accuser) a genetic quirk meant a large part of the population was ‘pink’, objectively identical to Caucasian humans. The ‘pink’ Mar-Vell was sent on a reconnaissance mission to Earth where he posed as NASA scientist Walter Lawson. As Lawson the warrior grew to deeply care about the planet and it’s inhabitants, particularly befriending the young security officer Carol Danvers.

Initially, Mar-Vell only possessed basic Kree physiology and abilities, namely super strength and endurance. A series of events over time led to him gaining (and sometimes losing) additional gifts such as flight, energy absorption, photon blasts, telepathy and bolstered strength, speed and endurance. At one point he developed a psychic and special bond with Rick Jones, the good friend of the Hulk and the behind-the-scenes creation of the Avengers

The Hero of Two Worlds

As Mar-Vell struggled between fulfilling his orders from the Kree Empire and his feelings for Earth his fellow warrior and rival Yon-Rogg would attempt to sabotage him. In one such fateful encounter he kidnapped Carol Danvers to lure Mar-Vell into a trap. During the fight Yon-Rogg accidentally activated a Kree weapon that destroyed him, while another Kree device irradiated both Mar-Vell and Carol. This device altered Carol on a genetic level, changing 50% of her DNA into the duplicate of Mar-Vell’s and gifting her the Kree warrior’s enhanced abilities and powers.

While Carol began her own superhero career as Ms. Marvel Mar-Vell continued having his own adventures, having chosen Earth over the Kree and becoming one if it’s most powerful defenders. But by the late 70’s his popularity had considerably diminished, and Marvel more or less only published new comics in order to keep the Captain Marvel trademark away from DC. In the 80’s the series was finally canceled and Mar-Vell died from lung cancer after having been exposed to nerve gas in Marvel’s first graphic novel, The Death of Captain Marvel.

As of now, little is known about Mar-Vell’s role in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, which will star Alison Brie as the titular character Carol Danvers. Jude Law is confirmed to be playing Mar-Vell’s alter ego Dr. Walter Lawson and will probably have some role in Carol gaining her abilities and inspiring her to heroism. As Kevin Feige has confirmed that this representation of the character will be different from the original comics, how this will go about is anyone’s guess.

Arike Ogunbowale is a 21-year-old basketball player at the University of Notre Dame who was named Most Outstanding Player during Notre Dame’s 2018 National Title run. Following a tournament run that saw her hit two game-winning shots, including one to win the championship, Ogunbowale will be featured on the 26th season of Dancing with the Stars in an all-athlete season in which she’ll be partnered with professional dancer Gleb Savchenko.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconson, Ogunbowale was an athletic force even as a child, winning four straight Wisconsin State Cups in soccer as a teenager. Jenna Johnson is a 24-year-old dancer and choreographer from Provo, Utah, best known for competing on FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars. She has been announced as one of the competitors of season 26 of Dancing with the Stars, where she will partner with Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon.

After competing on season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance, Johnson was hired to dance in the troupe for seasons 18-22 of Dancing with the Stars. In 2016, Johnson returned for So You Think You Can Dance’s 16th season. Emma Slater is a 29-year-old dancer and choreographer from Tamworth, Staffordshire, England who rose to prominence through her appearances on FOX’s Dancing with the Stars. Slater has appeared as a competitor on the past eight seasons of Dancing with the Stars and is set to dance alongside retired baseball player Johnny Damon in the show’s 26th season, set to debut April 30th.

Prior to making it as a featured performer on Dancing with the Stars, Slater had worked both in theater and movies, having featured in the film Meryl Streep-led Mamma Mia! and on the film’s soundtrack. While she initially worked on Dancing with the Stars as a lead choreographer and troupe leader, having previously worked independently for Usher, Slater became a mainstay on the show during its 17th season.

Kyle Damato-Kushel, a 48-year-old, former Stratford teacher’s aide who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Friday, April 27.

Damato-Kushel was sentenced to 10 years, suspended after she serves 18 months and followed by 10 years’ probation. She must register as a sex offender.

Police said the victim claimed that he had been having sex with Damato-Kushel since he was in the seventh grade. She also reportedly offered the unidentified victim $900 to keep quiet about the relationship.

NFL players using marijuana is not a new thing. It isn’t unique for any athlete in general. Athletes have been using marijuana since what feels like the dawn of time. But, just like it was back then, pot is still put under the same category of drugs like cocaine and steroids. Yet the athletes continue to fight for its pain-relieving effects, citing that it has no real impact on performance. NFL running back Mike James has taken the fight a step further, becoming the first player in NFL history to apply for a medical use exemption for marijuana.

In 2013, while filling in for the injured Doug Martin, James was running for a touchdown when a player on the other team fell on his foot causing him to fracture his ankle. Following the ankle injury, he was prescribed opioid painkillers to help manage the pain. He then developed a dependency on the pills in a short period of time, he told CNN. Fortunately, through some convincing from his wife, he found cannabis to be a safer alternative. Safer for his health, absolutely, but for his career, that remained to be seen.

Though a majority of states in the U.S. have some sort of legalization of marijuana, it still remains prohibited by the NFL and NFL Players Association. Under their Policy of Substance Abuse, there is only one way for the use of marijuana to be allowed; through a therapeutic use exemption stating that the athlete requires the substance to treat a diagnosed medical problem.

In March 2018, Mike James became the first NFL player in history to apply for that exemption. As many had expected, his application was denied. Even after his denial, James plans to continue to use cannabis as long as necessary. Telling CNN,”I’m not ashamed of it, I’m not embarrassed about it. It is something that I will continue to use because I have a life to live.”

Other than genuinely not caring about whether or not players do become addicted to opiates, as reported in this Deadspin article, the NFL and its team owners have other plans when it comes to the handling of marijuana. Pro Football Talk said last year that the owners don’t really care about the players’ use of marijuana, but are holding out on allowing it so that they will get something from the players in return.

Giving players opiates like M&Ms but not allowing marijuana use unless they can get something out of it is a pretty terrible way to treat your players. With more people
like Mike James in the future, legal marijuana use for athletes could see its day reasonably soon.

Lindsay Arnold Cusick is an American professional Latin and ballroom dancer. She gained fame through the popular TV show Dancing with the Stars, where she currently works as dancer and choreographer. The show might be dancing with the stars, but often the star of the show is Lindsay Arnold. If you take a look at some of her pictures you will quickly realize why. On the upcoming 26th season Arnold is paired with NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Arnold was born and raised in Utah and is the oldest of four daughters. She is of Mormon faith and married her high school sweetheart Samuel Cusick in a private Mormon ceremony on June 18, 2015. The NFL Draft has come and gone, there were some great picks and there were some not so great picks. There are some teams that drafted guys that fit perfectly on their team. Let’s take a look at some of those guys, who turned into our very early predictions for Offensive Rookie of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year and fantasy Rookie of the Year. Note: Saquon Barkley was not allowed to be chosen for Offensive ROTY because that’s just too easy.

Fantasy Rookie of the Year

This one is a no brainer. The Giants had an awesome draft, and put a great run blocker in front of Barkley by drafting Will Hernandez in the second round. Barkley is going to have a great passing attack around him, with Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram. Barkley will have a ton of running lanes as defenses won’t be able to key in on Barkley, especially with a healthy Odell Beckham. The Giants will be a force to be reckoned with if Barkley can truly take pressure off of Eli Manning like most people are projecting.

Offensive Rookie of the Year

This started with John Elway’s phone call to Freeman telling him that he’s going to be the bell cow back. Freeman was a powerful, true number one back at Oregon. He has a great chance to succeed against some weak defenses in the AFC West. If he can succeed in the passing game, he has a great chance to earn this title. There are a lot of young players on the Broncos offense now, with Courtland Sutton being a second-round pick at wide receiver, but Freeman has the best chance to shine if the offensive line holds up.

Defensive Rookie of the Year

Yes, another Bronco. Chubb was put in the best opportunity of any rookie on the defensive side of the ball. He’s a refined pass rusher who now gets to line up across from VON MILLER. That’s not something you see every day. Offensive lines are going to be sliding protections towards Miller’s side of the line all game long so double-digit sack numbers out of Chubb wouldn’t be too surprising. Roquan Smith is another name to watch. In the middle of the Chicago Bears defense, he can be a tackling machine. If someone can eat up blocks for him in the run game, we could possibly see him as a triple-digit tackler.

Jennie Finch is a former professional softball player, coach, and media personality. She first came to prominence playing college softball at the University of Arizona, where she saw much success. She also proved to be good enough to play for the United States Olympic Softball team in both the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. United States Softball

Finch went on to play for the United States in both the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Much like her career at Arizona, Finch helped her team see much success when she played.

She had a 2-0 record in the 2004 Olympics, striking out 13 batters in eight innings pitched. The United States went on to win the Gold Medal. She followed up this performance with another solid showing in 2008, but the United States would lose to Japan in the Gold Medal game. The International Olympic Committee disbanded Softball, along with Baseball, as an Olympic sport following 2008. However, it will make its return in 2020.

Finch also played in the National Fast Pitch Softball League, pitching for the Chicago Bandits. She also broke barriers when she became the first woman to coach a professional baseball team, leading the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League for one game.

In 2018, Finch will appear on Dancing With The Stars, looking to add another impressive talent to her resume.

Michelle Wolf is an American comedian and writer. She was a contributor and writer for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. She is a regular at the Comedy Cellar in New York City.

Wolf was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Hershey High School in 2003. After high school, Wolf graduated from College of William & Mary in 2007, where she majored in kinesiology. What The Hell Happened This Weekend? A Recap Of All The Headlines You Missed-4/30

Penn State University has suspended the Zeta Psi fraternity for four years following an investigation into alleged hazing. The fraternity has been suspended until 2022. The Zeta Psi International organization has also revoked the charter of the chapter.

According to The Daily Collegian, the Office of Student Conduct received a misconduct report of hazing against the fraternity in March. Additionally, on April 10, Zeta Psi fraternity member Cameron Miller faced 10 felony charges for possession and intent to sell cocaine.

In a press release, Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims said that “safety is and will remain the top priority. We applaud the international organization for taking the necessary action and partnering with us.”

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who was shut down for hazing and the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

Josh Rosen’s girlfriend, Zana Muno, could give him a run for his money when it comes to athletic accomplishments. Muno is a junior libero for the UCLA women’s volleyball team. She rivals Rosen in the classroom, too, earning a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention. Zuno was a three-sport athlete before coming to UCLA, starring in volleyball, soccer, and track and field at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California.

Recently, in a rather bizarre story, it seemed like a question regarding Muno led to an NFL executive being turned off to the idea of selecting Rosen in the 2018 NFL Draft. Ultimately, the former Bruins star was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 10 overall pick.
