WWE Backlash will feature top feuds from both Raw and SmackDown, showcasing the very best each brand has to offer. This event is headlined by two blockbuster main events spanning both brands. One main event will feature an inter-brand match between Monday Night Raw’s Roman Reigns going up against SmackDown Live‘s Samoa Joe. The winner of that match will likely be next in line for a world championship match on their respective brands. But the match that will likely close the show involves “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles putting his WWE Championship on the line in yet another rematch against “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura.

The ever-popular Daniel Bryan will also be in action at Backlash. Bryan’s return to the ring has only lasted a month and it’s already in jeopardy as the leader of the “Yes Movement” is set to take on the seven-foot-tall Big Cass. Can Bryan overcome the giant Cass? Or will the big man mow over his smaller opponent on his way to the main event scene?

At Backlash, the women’s division will treat the WWE Universe to two major championship showdowns. Over on SmackDown Live, tensions have been heating up between the newly-crowned WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella and the former champion Charlotte Flair. This Sunday, both women will step into the ring with the top prize on the line. Meanwhile, over on Monday Night Raw, Alexa Bliss has been taunting WWE Raw Women’s Champion Nia Jax nonstop since she lost the strap at WrestleMania 34. Will “The Goddess” reclaim her title at Backlash or will she fall to “The Irresistible” Force” that is Nia Jax?

Another inter-brand match scheduled for Backlash features Monday Night Raw‘s Seth Rollins defending his Intercontinental Championship against SmackDown Live‘s The Miz. Can Rollins topple “The Hollywood A-Lister” and keep the championship on Raw, proving why the red brand is rightfully known as Monday Night Rollins? Or will The Miz vanquish “The King Slayer” and take home the gold for the blue brand, becoming a record-tying 9-time IC Champion in the process?

WWE Backlash 2018 Location

The Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, will play host to the 2018 edition of WWE Backlash. The arena has been nicknamed “The Rock,” in reference to the Rock of Gibraltar, which is also the corporate logo of Prudential Financial (who own naming rights to the arena). The arena’s name is in relation to wrestler/actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who is a multi-time world champion in the WWE.

This arena opened in October 2007. It is currently the home of the Seton Pirate’s Men’s basketball team, as well as NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

Stark County Sherriff’s Office

Tiffany Eichler, 36, a Canton, Ohio high school teacher, has been indicted on multiple felony counts for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with students.

Eichler is accused of having sex with three different students who attended McKinley High School in Canton while she was employed as a physical education teacher.

She was charged with three counts of sexual battery and if convicted she could face up to 15 years in prison.

Canton police interviewed Eichler on March 8 after they were notified by the director of school security. Eichler told police she was being blackmailed for money by students after having had sex with them, according to a police report.

During the interview, Eichler told authorities she picked a student up near his house and the two engaged in sexual activity in her car. According to the report, Eichler went to the student’s house later the same day and the two engaged in sexual activity in the basement.

The report states that following the encounters, the student reached out to the teacher and asked for money to buy antibiotics.

Eichler is just the latest teacher to be charged for an alleged relationship with a teenager student.  Over the course of just a few months, educators across the country were arrested for entering into an inappropriate relationship with their students, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers, LaToya Parker, Florida teacher Caroline Lawson, 26-year-old Allyson Moran and Katherine Ross Ridenhour were all arrested on similar charges.

The list goes on to include 22-year-old Oklahoma science teacher Hunter Day, 28-year-old teacher Megan Kotarski, 23-year-old history teacher Michelle Schiffer, 29-year-old Alyssia Marie Reddy, special education teacher Jordan Ondish and 28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick have all been allegedly carrying on inappropriate relationships with their students.

In addition, 31-year-old Nicole Marie Andrews, 32-year-old Jessica Langford, 29-year-old Andrea Baber, 27-year-old Robin Dunlap, 27-year-old Jennifer Olajire-Aro have also been charged with these charges.

42-year-old Heather Butts of California was arrested on a second-degree felony charge, Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, a former Christian school teacher, was arrested for having sex with a student, Coine Audiat pleaded no contest to having sex with a minor in 2016 and 23-year-old Darci Lake was arrested for an inappropriate relationship. 27-year-old Brittany Zamora from Arizona was arrested on similar charges. Keri Hoffman, 35, was also arrested for an alleged relationship with a student.

Alpha Sigma Alpha at Penn State University had its recognition suspended on May 2 due to alcohol violations.

According to a statement from Penn State spokeswoman Lisa Powers, the Alpha Sigma sorority will be suspended through 2022 as a result of a student conduct investigation into allegations of alcohol use, according to the release. The sorority’s national organization has also been notified.

The school’s Zeta Psi fraternity was also suspended this week. Penn State has been enforcing stricter rules on university greek life since the death of Beta Theta Pi pledge Timothy Piazza, who died on February 4, 2017 after a night of heavy drinking.

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who were shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

Back in February of 2018, after performing a stand-up comedy set at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California, Kevin Smith — the director of Dogma, Zack and Miri Make A Porno, Clerks & more — suffered a heart attack caused by a total blockage of the left anterior descending artery. Luckily for Smith, his family, and his fans, he survived and has come out of it a healthier man. And according to Kevin, he wouldn’t have made it through that harrowing night if it wasn’t for … marijuana?

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Smith told the epic yet the surprisingly hilarious 10-minute story about the night he had a heart attack. Touching on everything from his fear of being naked to the peace he made with god, Smith eventually reveals that the doctor who saved his life claimed it was the marijuana he smoked earlier that saved his life.

“I honestly thought I was too high. I’d smoked a bunch of weed that day because I was doing the show, and then I smoked a joint right before the show, and then I got off stage and all of a sudden I had a heart attack.

“They got me to the hospital and they wheel me into the emergency room and the whole time I’m chill. Like, the guy said, the paramedic, he goes, ‘You’re being real calm, that’s going to get you through this. And there’s a dude behind him goes, ‘That’s what’s going to save his life.’

“I said, ‘Doc, honestly, I just smoked too much weed this morning. That’s what this is.

“He goes, ‘No, quite the opposite. That weed saved your life.’ And I was like, ‘Do tell! Like, what do you mean?’ He said, ‘You kept calm. They told you that you were having a massive heart attack, and you remained calm the whole time, so that joint saved your life.’

While we wouldn’t suggest relying on weed to keep you healthy, this is yet another, although very unique,  example of the medical benefits marijuana can bring to the table.

The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders, known as the First Ladies of Football, are the longest-running professional National Football League cheerleading organization. Originally called the Redskinettes, the team has been cheering for the Washington Redskins since September 30, 1962.

The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders are some of the most successful in the history of the league. In 1982, they were invited to be the first NFL cheerleaders to perform in Asia promoting U.S. commercial products throughout Taiwan. In 1983 the cheerleaders produced their first calendar, which they have continued to produce annually since.

On May 2, 2018, the Washington Redskins cheerleaders accused the franchise’s management of forcing them to pose undressed for a 2013 calendar photo shoot in front of the team’s male sponsors. Furthermore, the cheerleaders claim they have to escort some of the staff to a nightclub.

In a report released by the New York Times on Wednesday, May 2, the cheerleaders detailed their 2013 trip to Costa Rica for a calendar photo shoot, during which they were required to satisfy demands that stretched far beyond their responsibility. Stephanie Jojokian, the longtime director and choreographer for the Redskins’ cheerleaders, disputed much of the women’s description of the Costa Rica trip.

Mina Kimes is one of the rising stars at the Worldwide Leader in Sports. In an update to the firing of University of Tennessee chancellor Beverly Davenport, who will be forced out July 1, the school has announced that Wayne Davis has been named as its interim chancellor. After he will take office this upcoming Monday, Davis is expected to serve in his new position for six to 12 months. Currently the dean of the Tickle College of Engineering, he already worked at the school for 44 years.

What happened?

According to NBC 4-WSMV, UT President Joe DiPietro announced the following statement explaining why he thought Davis would be a good fit in the position:

“Wayne Davis is a proven and respected university leader who has served the flagship campus in numerous capacities for more than four decades. As its dean, he has presided over a thriving Tickle College of Engineering, growing in enrollment, research productivity and achieving new heights of national recognition.”

Davis himself also issued the following statement about his new position:

“It is always unsettling when there is a sudden change in a senior leadership position within the university, and this situation is no exception. The University of Tennessee holds a special place in my heart. As an alum, a faculty member and an administrator, I have been committed to this great University and its journey toward excellence for more than 45 years. I am deeply honored to be asked to serve in this interim role as the university identifies the next steps toward its search for a new chancellor.”

Who is Wayne Davis?

According to his official biography on the school’s official website, Davis was named Dean of the Tickle College of Engineering in March 2009; he previously served as the interim dean since May 2008. For his education, he earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Pfeiffer College, now Pfeiffer University, in North Carolina; he later earned his master’s in environmental engineering and Ph.D. in civil engineering from UT Knoxville.

Furthering his career, Daviss first served as an instructor of environmental engineering in 1974 for the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and became an assistant professor in 1975, being named an associate professor in 1979 and a full professor by 1984.

Davis has notably earned many honors and affiliations over the years. In 1990, he warned the Lyman A. Ripperton Award from the Air and Waste Management Association. In 1994, he earned the Chancellor’s Award for Research, as well as the Chancellor’s Macebearer Award in 2002. Most recently, he earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice in 2007.

The FIFA World Cup, as we all know, comes every four years. That’s how it’s been since 1930. Though this wouldn’t change, FIFA President Gianni Infantino wants to stir some things into the pot. He recently proposed introducing an additional mini-world cup, which would feature eight international teams and occur every two years. The existing World Cup falls on the even years, while this mini-world cup, potentially starting 2021, would fall on the odd years.

Critics are worried this new cup would interfere with the significance of the original World Cup and also over-complicate the current state of international soccer. Not to mention, the price tag. A group of investors is already down, and they’re willing to put $25 million towards the mini-cup. Oh, wait, sorry typo. I meant billion. $25 billion. So what’s Infantino’s motivation behind all this?

In his eyes, the mini-world cup or the “Final 8” would help with reforming international soccer. Infantino has already overseen the expansion of the current World Cup. In 2026, 48 teams instead of the usual 32, will participate. Though the introduction of the mini-world cup would get rid of the Confederations Cup, other international tournaments such as the European Championship, Copa America, and African Nations Cup would continue.

Infantino did want to make clear that FIFA would not be the sole financial beneficiaries from this tournament. He insisted that the revenue from the “Final 8” would be redistributed. These plans to officially introduce this tournament are not yet set in stone. There are two main barriers. The first being members of FIFA’s decision-making Council still have to approve the plans, and the second being that other countries would have to set up similar competitions in order for this mini-world cup to work.

Fredric Allan Shinerock, an 80-year-old white man, has been arrested in Los Angeles after he was filmed verbally and physically assaulting a young black woman in the performing arts complex parking lot at Santa Monica College on Tuesday, May 1.

According to the Twitter video, the incident was a result of a “bad parking job” as cell phone footage shows the unidentified woman’s car taking up more than one spot in the parking lot. Shinerock then proceeded to call her the N-word while assaulting her. Shinerock also said: “You don’t belong here, go back to south LA.”

The incident was captured on video by Enrique Conde, a college student. Shinerock was arrested and the woman was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but not transported to the hospital for treatment.

“A bad parking job was enough to send this old guy on a racist tirade yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of the Broad Stage in Santa Monica. In addition to the slurs, the man was yelling “Go back to South LA” and that the lady “didn’t belong here.”

According to KTLA, Shinerock said he was at The Broad Stage to attend an opera performance but declined to comment further.

Santa Monica College President Kathryn E. Jeffery issued a statement saying there was no room for hate at the college.

“Santa Monica College is an institution that prides itself on inclusivity and diversity and we will continue to do our utmost to uphold our commitment to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment. We will take immediate and evident action to reinforce to our students, college community, and guests that there is no room for hate at Santa Monica College.”

A spokesperson for Santa Monica College identified the man in the video as 80-year-old Fredric Allan Shinerock. He was taken into custody, cited and released on the scene.

Christina Aguilera is officially back. Well, I don’t think she ever really left but you know what I mean. On May 3rd, Aguilera dropped the music video for her song “Accelerate” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz. Let’s just say we are ecstatic that one of the original pop queens is back. Her and Britney Spears are basically the Magic Johnson and Larry Bird of pop music.

Aguilera was born in Staten Island but her family moved around a lot when she was a kid due to her father’s service in the United States Army. She began singing at a young age, and even joined the show The Mickey Mouse Club in 1993 when she was just 13. She had other future celebrities as co-stars including Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Keri Russell.

Following her cover of the song “Run To You” for the Mulan soundtrack, she caught the attention of RCA Records, who signed her to a record deal. She released her first single “Genie In A Bottle” in 1999, and the rest is really history. Her self-titled album was released and Aguilera became one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. She went on to win the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2000.

In 2001, she began to shed her “good girl” image and contributed to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, appearing on the song “Lady Marmalade” with P!nk, Lil Kim, and Mya. She went on to release one of her most famous music videos for “Dirty“, which was simply magnificent. Truly one of the GOATs.

Over the course of the next decade, she would release more music and become even more of a media personality, even appearing in a few movies including Get Him To The Greek and Pitch Perfect 2.

She also served as the judge on NBC’s The Voice for six seasons. But now, Christina is back and she has shown that she can still bring the heat.

If you are a fan of mixed martial arts, there is a good chance you have seen Rachael Ostovich, a 27-year-old flyweight from Hawaii. Ostovich is one of the most marketable women in the UFC’s 125-pound division and was victorious in her promotional debut in December 2017 when she scored a first-round armbar finish of Karine Gevorgyan.

Ostovich, who began her MMA career in 2010 and went 6-0 as an amateur, made her professional debut in her home state of Hawaii in 2014. Ostovich dropped her pro debut due to TKO, before rebounding with two straight wins and earning a spot on the all-female Invicta FC roster.

Ostovich then appeared on season 26 of The Ultimate Fighter which crowned the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight champion. Ostovich earned her spot in the house by submitting Melinda Fabian with a rear-naked choke, before dropping a unanimous decision to Barb Honchak in the tournament quarterfinals.

If it wasn’t for fighting, Ostovich could have ended up going a much different route and pursued a career in cheerleading.

“I thought I wanted to be a professional cheerleader,” she said in an interview prior to her appearance on The Ultimate Fighter. “The competitive cheerleading that I was in, it was crazy. I feel like it helped me with MMA. (Laughs) But I wanted to be some type of professional athlete, and I cheered my whole life and that was it. I tried out for college and I ended up not making it, and I was devastated because I swore to my mom that I was gonna have a full ride scholarship. But God has his plans and, after that, I started doing MMA.”
