Duke University Launches New ‘Humanities Unbounded’ Program

Duke University just received $3 million to launch a new humanities initiative; the move is also expected to help them launch new partnerships with various liberal arts colleges, notably a new teaching partnership with Durham Technical Community College, ultimately with a program called “Humanities Unbounded,” that is expected to start this summer.

What is the ‘Humanities Unbounded’ program going to be like?

The “Humanities Unbounded” project will run from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2023.

It will also focus on three major goals: developing new models that combine undergraduate education, faculty research and graduate student training, helping Duke build relationships with liberal arts colleges, with a special focus on historically black colleges and universities, and a new pilot program, a new teaching partnership, with Durham Technical Community College.

The program will be led by historian and vice provost for interdisciplinary studies Edward Balleisen, dean of the humanities and art historianGennifer Weisenfeld, and director of the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke and professor of English, women’s studies and literature Ranjana Khanna.

What is the school saying about the new programs?

According to Duke Today, University President Vincent Price issued the following statement:

“Duke has long been engaged in building the future of the humanities, both through undergraduate teaching and faculty scholarship.”

“We are grateful for the support of the Mellon Foundation, which will help us strengthen existing partnerships and forge new connections on our campus and beyond.”

Weisenfeld, who, as mentioned above, serves as dean of the humanities, also issued the following statement:

“We plan to develop nine humanities labs over the course of the grant, and we believe this will create innovative and flexible educational pathways that will expose more Duke students to the richness of humanistic thinking and its exciting research possibilities.”

William Ingram, president of Durham Tech, also issued the following statement over the upcoming program between the two schools:

“This new partnership will generate great benefits for both institutions.”

“It creates exciting opportunities for our instructors to further enhance and develop their pedagogy, and that will have long-term benefits for our curriculum.”

Logan Lester is a 23-year-old beauty queen and winner of Miss Texas USA 2018.

Logan graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Business and Communications and a concentration in Leadership. After she graduated, she launched a career in Real Estate in the Houston area. Work ethic and perseverance are two key ingredients to being successful in real estate, and luckily for Logan, she has both.

She hit the ground running in Houston, and in 2017, was named as one of Houston Association of Realtor’s (HAR) 20 under 40 Rising Stars in Real Estate. Logan is a Buyer’s Specialist with the popular Houston group, Team Sansone, of RE/MAX Fine Properties.

Instagram Photo

Although Logan translates her hard work attitude from her career to pageantry, much of her inspiration to compete comes from her experiences growing up. In her teen years, Logan was bullied. She was able to overcome her feelings of insecurity by turning them into something more positive, like confidence and a drive to be successful.

As Miss Texas USA, she intends to encourage others and be an advocate for those who are hurting.  She wants them to know that they can heal from traumatic and trying times to rise above mistreatment and to make something of themselves, just as she has.  Her mission is to inspire others to chase their dreams despite their hardships.

Instagram Photo

On her twenty-first birthday, Logan and her closest friends and family fulfilled Logan’s motto, “Because Nice Matters”.  Instead of a typical birthday celebration, they performed 21 acts of kindness.  They held an Easter egg hunt for the kids at Ronald McDonald House, visited and played games with the residents at a retirement center, donated to the Salvation Army, wrote notes to members of the military, took goodies to the Houston Fire Department, took flowers to hospital nurses, donated to a pet rescue organization, and did various other deeds to cheer and support those in need and those who serve us.

Logan hopes to continue to inspire when she competes as one of 51 at this year’s Miss USA Pageant on Monday, May 21. The competition will air Live on FOX at 8 PM ET. The location for the event is at George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport-Bossier,  Louisiana.

WATCH: Stoneman Douglas Students ‘Shine’ Music Video

Stoneman Douglas High School students rallied together in an inspirational way following the tragic school shooting that left 17 students and teachers dead. The Parkland community was reeling following the horrifying tragedy, but the students remained strong and did their best to inspire hope and promote a positive message during the dark time. That led to the release of an original song, “Shine.” The song was first performed live during a CNN Town Hall debate one week following the shooting.

Now, the Stoneman Douglas students have released a touching music video for the song that pays tribute to their fallen classmates and teachers.

“Shine” was written by Stoneman Douglas students Sawyer Garrity and Andrea Peña, and MSD alum Brittani Kagan collaborated with students and faculty to come together to create the video that honors the victims and shows the strength of the community as it rallies together.

The inspiring lyrics for the chorus read:

Cause you’re not gonna knock us down
We’ll get back up again
You may have hurt us
But I promise we’ll be stronger and
We’re not gonna let you win
We’re putting up a fight
You may have brought the dark
But together we will shine the light
Whoah, we’re gonna shine

All proceeds from downloads and views of the video on YouTube go to Shine MSD, a non-profit created by MSD families to support programs that provide healing through the arts.

Check out the video below:

The names of the victims who were tragically killed are:

Thanos Has Hit ‘Fortnite’& The Videos Are Wild

0
0

Every couple of years or so, a game will pop up seemingly out of nowhere to become an absolute pop cultural phenomenon: Rocket League, Clash of Clans, Pokemon Go, and now Fortnite, which may end up as the biggest of them all.

Played by the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the famous and the civilians, Fortnite has reached all corners and demographics of the Earth, making it one of the most played and talked about video games in years (Chance the Rapper, Joe Jonas, Finn Wolfhard, Roseanne Barr, Norm Macdonald, and Drake have all said they play the game). And despite the heights that the game has already hit, it seems to be showing no signs of slowing down, as the latest update may be the coolest: the inclusion of Thanos.

In addition to the likes of Drake and Chance the Rapper, the Russo brothers — the directors of Avengers: Infinity War — also revealed that they are Fortnite fans, claiming they played during breaks on the film’s development. One thing led to another, and next thing you know Thanos has been written into the Fortnite code.

But how does it work? Simply: the Infinity Gauntlet is randomly spawned on the map and any player that equips it becomes the ultra-powerful Mad Titan Thanos. Needless to say, the videos are bonkers.

As if getting my ass kicked by 10-year-olds in Fortnite wasn’t enough … now I have to get my ass literally evaporated by Thanos. That said, if my Fortnite success is the price I have to pay for hese clips of Thanos milly rocking, then that’s totally fine with me:

How To Get Thanos In ‘Fortnite Battle Royale’

Fortnite Play As Thanos

Have you secretly wished to one day harness the power of the infinity stones? Do you truly want to be the most powerful being in the universe? Well, now’s your chance! For a limited time only Marvel and Epic Games have come together to bring you an Infinity Gauntlet that will make you as powerful as the Mad Titan himself. Believe me, you won’t want to miss this.

Official How-To Guide

Like Thanos, you too will need to find the gauntlet. Try not to kill 300 giant dwarves at a forge in the process. Lucky for you, this video above provides all the potential locations to find the Infinity Gauntlet along with how best to harness that power once you’ve literally got your hand on it… or inside it, I should say.

Here are the key takeaway points:

  • Stay in the sky as long as possible
  • Get to the center of the circle
  • Try to be the lowest parachuter possible
  • Wait for the 2 minute “ish” mark
  • Aim ahead of the comet
  • Don’t hesitate to use your surroundings to drop faster (trees, buildings, cliffsides, etc)

When you sky drop, this is a perfect opportunity to use the power of the stones. The impact is huge and it packs a helluva punch to anyone coming your way.

How Did We Get So Lucky?

When Marvel sees a business opportunity, they aren’t ones to shy away. With Fortnite popularity on the rise, what better way to infuse two of entertainment’s hot items together! The game’s development team went on to say:

“This collaboration started as a simple phone conversation between Epic and Marvel over a mutual appreciation for Fortnite and Avengers. We worked closely over the following weeks to bring these two worlds together and landed on the Limited Time Mashup, Infinity Gauntlet. When we saw the movie last weekend, which was incredible, we were even more excited.”

The fate of the world is in your hands now… are you ready to destroy it?

TJ McConnell Net Worth 2018: How Much Is TJ Worth?

0
0

TJ McConnell is an NBA point guard who currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers. He played college basketball for the Duquesne Dukes and the Arizona Wildcats. McConnell first joined the Sixers in 2015 when their rebuilding (tanking) process was in full swing. At a below NBA average height of 6’2 and 188 lbs, TJ was supposed to be just another piece in Philadelphia’s grand plan to intentionally lose games. The undrafted kid from Pittsburgh, PA turned out to be much more and is now a substantial part of the Sixer’s success.

TJ McConnell Net Worth As Of 2018: $1 Million

As part of his contract, McConnell is projected to make just shy of $1.5 million this year, and $1.6 million next. If he keeps up his fiery and effective style of play, at the end of the 2018-19 season TJ’s gonna get paid. And hopefully, for Philly fans, he’ll continue to light up Wells Fargo Center for years to come.

Early Years

Instagram Photo

McConnell, 26, was born in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Chartiers Valley High School in the Pittsburgh-area borough of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. At Chartiers, he played for his father, Tim, who was the head basketball coach for the school. In his senior year, TJ was the team captain and averaged 34.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game. That year he earned first-team all-state honors, was named the Associated Press’s Pennsylvania Class 3A Player of the Year, and also named the male athlete of the year for all sports by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He led the Colts to a 29-2 record and a berth in the state championship game.

2010-2015

Instagram Photo

He started his college career at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh where he played for two years. He then transferred to Arizona, citing the reason for his move because of a desire to compete for a National Championship. In his junior year, McConnell helped lead the Wildcats to a 21-0 record to start the season. In that year’s March Madness tournament, the Wildcats made it to the Elite Eight before being eliminated. As a senior, McConnell was voted first-team All-Pac-12 and named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. He also helped lead Arizona to another appearance in the Elite Eight.

2015-2016

Instagram Photo

TJ went undrafted in the 2015 NBA draft but was ultimately picked up by the Philadelphia 76ers. At the time, Philly was well into their “process” of intentionally losing games for favorable draft picks. After a productive showing in the 76er’s summer league, McConnell earned himself a spot on Philadelphia’s roster for the upcoming season. Throughout his rookie year, he showed spurts of effectiveness with his high motor, spark plug style of offense and defense. At the season’s end, he received two votes in the 2016 NBA All-Rookie Team voting.

2016-Present

Instagram Photo

Over the next two seasons, McConnell would solidify his right to not only play for the 76ers but in the NBA. He’s proved to the league that he’s a reliable pest on the defensive end, and as a point guard, he’s good game manager and very capable of getting to the rim. In 2017-18, Philadelphia went from a 10 win team just two years prior, to a team that finished third in the Eastern Conference and won 52 games. Despite Philly moving on from their tanking days, McConnell was still a contributor. In his third season with the team, TJ had a career-high 18-point game and became the first player in franchise history to record a triple-double off the bench.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Directors Extensively Breakdown Film’s Controversial Ending

0

Marvel

To begin with the obvious — the following contains spoilers. Given the fact that the phrase “extensively break down the film’s ending” is in the title, one would imagine that spoilers are obvious before even clicking the article. But the stupidity of the internet can be shocking at times, so you always want extra careful about these things. So, if you are somehow a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan and you still haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War, then now is your time to escort yourself out of this article (and straight to the movie theater, because the movie is f*cking awesome).

Okay, now let’s get started. Despite the fact that Infinity War is easily my favorite Marvel movie ever, it’s ending was the worst part of the film (which just goes to show how incredible the rest of the movie was, given that a movie’s “ending” is arguably the most important part). And not because of the idea, but because of the execution.

Any remotely interested fan *already knows* that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (and after it’s massive success, Black Panther 2) are coming out within the next couple of years, therefore rendering their character’s deaths meaningless. Now, had Disney and Marvel played their cards a little closer to the vest and kept quiet about the future release dates of these movies, THEN the death of Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Black Panther, and all the other heroes that turned to dust would have been far more impactful. But, because I know that Marvel has killed the unkillable, their deaths were ultimately emotionless.

Whether you liked the ending or not, the fact that you’re reading this article means you’re curious nonetheless. So, we decided to pull some key quotes from an Uproxx interview with Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of the behemoth movie, who revealed more details about the specifics behind the film’s bold conclusion.

via Uproxx:

The scene with Peter Parker is haunting. Were you worried kids would cry?

Joe Russo: Well, you know, I cried during The Empire Strikes Back. I think there’s a power in narrative and The Empire Strikes Back was one of the more impactful movies when I was in a child. I think I was ten.

I didn’t cry but I remember being horrified, but I was five.

Anthony Russo: Well that’s because you were the wrong age for that. You had to be closer to our age because you can deal with that kind of complexity.

Joe Russo: I stayed and I watched that movie from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. the day that movie came out. I just kept going back and back and back. And I think there’s something about catharsis and we all create catharsis in storytelling. There are things you can deal with in fantasy that you can’t deal with directly in the real world. I would argue that this movie is a reflection of its time. And that there is a level of catharsis the audience is going through collectively and globally as we march into whatever future awaits us.

Was there ever a debate on how sad to make Peter Parker’s death scene?

Joe Russo: With Peter specifically, we knew that would be a gut punch. I mean, that was my favorite character growing up.

Anthony Russo: Once we commit to a story idea, we commit to the fullest version of that. The potency of that moment is a function of us following that creative choice.

Joe Russo: We kept pushing it on set farther and farther with the emotional performance that we wanted. And part of it was improvisation on Tom Holland’s part.

What part did he improvise?

Joe Russo: I think what was scripted was, “I don’t feel so good,” and, “I’m sorry,” and everything in-between is Tom.

So, “I don’t want to go,” was his?

Joe Russo: Yeah. And the emotional level to which we pushed him to, that was really just us just saying, “You’re a child and you don’t understand.”

Anthony Russo: And the moment really expanded with Robert Downey Jr. Ever since we introduced the new Spider-Man in Civil War, Robert has been a very active mentor to him. And not just outside, but in the moment and in the scene while acting. Robert is one of the most remarkable performers on the planet and he makes everyone around him better and he brings everybody up. So, when Robert is tuned in to what you’re doing and, on a performance level, he wants to help feed you and pull you. He can do remarkable things. And he will dance with Tom on a performance level that is amazing and that was one example of it. He’s a very giving performer and he really helped us find that moment with Tom.

And I’ve never heard quite an audience reaction like when Black Panther flakes away…

Anthony Russo: What I love about that moment, Okoye, just the mission of that character to be the King’s protector and she takes that job very seriously.

Joe Russo: And for him to evaporate in her arms…

Anthony Russo: And the way she reacted to that was riveting and we couldn’t cut away from it.

LeBron & The Cavs: How They Sent The Raptors Back 65 Million Years

0
0

On Monday, May 7, LeBron James and his Cavaliers completed their second consecutive playoffs sweep of the Toronto Raptors. In the wake of a thoroughly demoralizing extinction, the Raptors must now confront their future–while the rest of the basketball universe confronts that LeBron James may truly be the greatest player of all time.

Instagram Photo

Just eight days before eliminating the Raptors, LeBron and the Cavs had been pushed to the brink of possibility: a first-round Game 7. LeBron’s personal 21-game first-round winning streak had been snapped by Victor Oladipo and the Indiana Pacers in their first matchup, and LeBron’s 12-0 all-time record in the first round was 48 minutes from an ugly blemish. The 5-seed Pacers had the 4-seed Cavs on the ropes, and while Cleveland would ultimately emerge victorious, their weaknesses indicated that there wouldn’t be much to celebrate in the coming weeks. Could a non-LeBron team finally emerge from the East for the first time in nearly a decade?

The Toronto Raptors didn’t believe it. And that may have been the poison they picked.

Instagram Photo

Attaining a No. 1 seed is an extraordinarily difficult task. It translates, simply, to the most impressive accumulation of wins over 82 attempts. But this, in turn, doesn’t ensure the type of winning most important to a team’s legacy. Through the 2017-18 season, the Toronto Raptors recreated themselves, their culture, and inevitably their chances at title contention; they’d win 59 games in all, dispelling the myth that “blowing it up” is the only viable option for great-but-not-excellent teams. The Raptors proved that when a franchise–from the front office down to its All-Stars–buys in to dividend-paying change, incredible things can happen.

But extraordinary bench play, a more equal distribution of responsibility, and an uptick in attempted three-pointers can’t exorcise every demon. When LeBron James is in your head, and he’s drilling fadeaways in your face, and he’s sinking buzzer-beating game-winners in your grill, there’s not much to do but pray he twists the knife a bit more gently.

Instagram Photo

Apart from LeBron, not a single Cavalier scored at least 20 points in a single game of the Indiana series. Kevin Love was playing soulless, while King James put up averages of 34.4 points on 55.3% shooting, 10 rebounds, and 7.7 assists as he dragged his teammates to the mountaintop. The Cavs were outscored by 40–forty–points over seven games, and still pulled out an improbable (if not impossible) win.

In Game 7, head coach Tyronn Lue mobilized his players by starting a recently disgraced Tristan Thompson alongside LeBron, Love, J.R. Smith, and Kyle Korver. Thompson spoke on this particular five, explaining, “we’ve been in Game 7 at the highest level in basketball — in the Finals. So we know what it takes, and we know what we’re going to have to bring to the table.” The method was successful. While players often dismiss the concept of riding momentum, it was clear that the non-Bron Cavs had begun to understand that leaning on the greatest player in the world is an unsustainable privilege.

To the Raptors’ dismay, the Cavs woke up when it mattered most.

Instagram Photo

After shooting 12-for-30 in Game 1 in Toronto, LeBron described his showing as “probably one of my worst games of the season”–even though he recorded a triple-double, and nailed the shot that sent the game to overtime. The Cavs never led in regulation, but with offensive help from Smith, Korver, Thompson, and Jeff Green, they worked to dismantle the Raptors’ home-court and home-country advantages in the fourth quarter and overtime. Combatting the Raptors’ mantra of balanced team basketball, the other Cavs stepped up for the first time in recent memory, stealing a win for LeBron instead of waiting for him to bring home the Canadian bacon.

Instagram Photo

DeRozan, late in the fourth quarter, epitomized his growth by passing up bad shots, choosing trust, and finding wide-open teammates. Those teammates missed anyway. The most piercing misses, though, were by the hands of Jonas Valanciunas, whose several failed putbacks at the rim may play on a loop in his head for the foreseeable future. It was this extended, ominous moment leading into overtime that wrote a recycled plot, and affirmed what we already knew: LeBron has the power to break at least one team built to vanquish him. The Raptors fell in nightmarish heartbreak, 113-112.

Game 2 was an epic of its own. Watching the third quarter was bearing witness to the unfolding of history. The visuals were breathtaking. LeBron gracefully, ostensibly effortlessly buried the Raptors alive with one impossible jumper after the other. Jordan Clarkson called it “probably the craziest s**t I’ve ever seen”. King James sucked every bit of life out of the Raptors while challenging his most devout critics to reconsider everything they once understood to be greatness.

Toronto had no answer. Air Canada Centre was hushed and one Aubrey Graham humbled as the Cavaliers danced into an 18-point victory. LeBron had 43, Kevin Love rematerialized with 31 of his own, and the Cavs had the whole world in their hands. Okay, maybe just Canada.

Instagram Photo

At that point, the series was, for all intents and purposes, over. Returning to Cleveland with two victories in hand was simply a formality, a vanity project, an extended humiliation. LeBron had already mentally extinguished the Raptors. Or so we thought.

Kyle Lowry stormed into the Q on a mission: send this series back to Toronto so we can rewrite this story. He notched a postseason-high 27 points, leading an effort that saw four teammates score in double figures on their way back from a 17-point deficit. But DeMar DeRozan was not one of those teammates, and in a loaded decision by head coach Dwane Casey, DeRozan sat the entirety of the fourth quarter of Game 3. Attributing it to a “tough night” for the face of the franchise, Casey stuck with Fred VanVleet, who missed two potential game-winners in Game 1. Whether DeRozan’s presence would have made a difference will remain a mystery, because LeBron had the final word all along.

Instagram Photo

A collapse by the Cavs on transition defense let rookie OG Anunoby, LeBron’s primary defender, get off a wide-open three that would tie the game at 103 with eight seconds remaining. In the subsequent timeout, Lue and James collaborated on a plan to inbound the ball under their own basket instead of advancing. Confusing the Raptors’ defense, who had planned to trap LeBron, LeBron took all eight seconds to glide the full 94 feet. Beating Anunoby, he got to his spot. LeBron jumped off one foot, released with one hand, and faded towards DeRozan and the visitors’ bench.

Instagram Photo

With a kiss of glass, the Raptors’ fate was sealed. That ball slinked nonchalantly through the nylon as if simply asked politely.

Instagram Photo

This series wasn’t going back to, ahem, LeBronto. And that buzzer-beater? His second of the 2018 Playoffs? One shy of Michael Jordan’s career postseason total.

Instagram Photo

With a 35-point thrashing on Monday night, the Cavaliers released the Raptors from an excruciating headlock. The Cavaliers starters shot a devastating 64.5%, including a perfect 6-for-6 from J.R. Smith. LeBron had 29, Love had 23, Korver had 16, and George Hill added 12. King James set or tied records, dropped new milestones, and edged ever closer to MJ with each game of this series. How do the Raptors reconcile and recover?

DeRozan scored an uninspiring 13 in the series finale, and missed the fourth quarter again following an ejection off a questionable Flagrant 2 call. The referees implicitly did him a favor, saving him from eye-glazing garbage time and a 12-minute taunt of the last three years. Since May 2016, Toronto has lost ten consecutive postseason games to Cleveland.

Instagram Photo

The Raptors were always going to shrivel in LeBron James’s shadow. Recalling Jordan-induced trauma lodged in the memories of Knicks fans of the early ’90s, the Raptors face an uncertain future contingent, like it or not, on LeBron’s free agency. They don’t have much of an option.

Salary-related issues aside, blowing it up after a historic, promising regular season would be hard to stomach. The team is young (Lowry and C.J. Miles are the only players over 30), and there remains room to improve on the remarkable stylistic changes that put Toronto over the top this year. Let’s see if they can land a difference-maker in the offseason.

Instagram Photo

The Eastern Conference Finals await LeBron James for the eighth straight year. The Cavaliers will likely be met on the other side by the Boston Celtics, who have a 3-1 edge over the 76ers heading into Game 5 at the Garden. Oddly enough, the Cavaliers will have walked precisely the same path (save for a few results) through the East as they did in 2017. Moving ever Eastward, from Indiana to Toronto to Boston, the Cavs can begin mentally preparing to shift West come June.

The Celtics have enjoyed their own remarkable postseason run, but with LeBron James peaking like this while his teammates develop and improve as a unit beside him, the odds are in Cleveland’s favor. LeBron maintained after the sweep, “it’s impossible for me to lose confidence in our ballclub, no matter what the stakes are or what we’re down”, publicly commending and affirming his trust in his teammates.

Ironically, neither Cleveland nor Boston was favored in their Semifinals matchups. But while Boston has played resiliently without Kyrie Irving, their luck may run out soon. A well-rested LeBron could turn into the most lethal version of this Year 15 phenomenon.

It’s possible you may have encountered a couple without even realizing it! Let’s take a look at which famous people have caught Fortnite Fever.

Drake

Instagram Photo

The rapper is probably the most well-known A-list player. He’s a Fortnite addict and he’s used to breaking records on Twitch with Fortnite star, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins. Drake is currently working on his new album, and since the game has become such a presence in his life recently, he’s toying with the idea of sampling Fortnite in a couple of new songs. There’s a strong possibility he’ll swap a Fortnite verse for a Hotline Bling emote, and fans couldn’t be more excited.

Travis Scott

Scott’s known for many things. He’s a rapper, songwriter, and producer. Not to mention, he’s the boyfriend of the very famous Kylie Jenner. Scott’s also known to be obsessed with Fortnite. In March of this past year, he was partly responsible for breaking a HUGE HUGE HUGE record for the game. It all started when Tyler “Ninja” Blevins assembled a supergroup like no other. The group included Drake (of course), NFL player JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Travis Scott. Together, they broke the record for the most-viewed stream by a single player. At its peak, the stream hit 628,000 viewers.

JuJu Smith-Schuster

Instagram Photo

Yes, he’s the wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but what’s even more exciting is that JuJu Smith-Schuster is an avid Fortnite player. He also has a Youtube channel with 494,000 subscribers and counting. Recently, he posted a video where he took his Fortnite crew to the Adidas store in Santa Monica and spent over $20,000. Whether it’s on the football field or an online battlefield, it’s obvious JuJu is very much a team player.

Chance The Rapper

Instagram Photo

Chance is but another rapper that has fallen under the Fortnite spell. He tweeted back in February at Nintendo of America, asking if the game could be made available on Switch. Fans were in high support of this. So come on, Nintendo, get on that.

Roseanne Barr

Instagram Photo

We all did a double take when Roseanne tweeted back in February that she had 20 Fortnite victory royale wins. The comedian and sitcom star tweeted this relatively close to the air date of her reboot so is this just her acting cool and relevant to gain the viewership of a wider audience or is this the real deal? Let’s hope the latter because if so, Roseanne just became that much cooler.

Joe Jonas

Instagram Photo

DNCE Singer and ex-boyband performer Joe Jonas not only admitted to playing Fortnite on Twitter, but he also posted his handle for all the world to see as to recruit players for his team. CrackedPig8153, I volunteer as tribute.

Finn Wolfhard

Instagram Photo

You know him as the love interest of Eleven on the Netflix series, Stranger Things. On the show, he plays Mike Wheeler who, along with his nerdy friends, is obsessed with all things video games. Apparently, this carries over into real life because Finn Wolfhard is a frequent player of Fortnite, and he’s pretty good at it. He plays with his brother and he’s been known to chat with fans.

There are a few other names that may sound familiar like former Saturday Night Live cast member, Norm MacDonald, Los Angeles Laker Josh Hart, and Youtubers Jake and Logan Paul who too have surrendered themselves to the seemingly irresistible game. So which celebrities will succumb next? I’m sure we’ll find out soon. The celebrity Fortnite wave seems to be growing in size, and it doesn’t look as though it will be crashing anytime soon.

U.S. Coast Guard Seizes Over 1 Ton (2600 Pounds!) Of Marijuana In The Caribbean

via U.S. Coast Guard District 7

Sometimes, while I’m sitting around smoking weed, I think to myself, “I wonder how this weed got here?”. Like, where it was grown and who grew it, who did they sell it to,  where was it shipped, how many levels of drug dealers did it go through before it got to me, etc, etc etc. Thanks to shows like Narcos and Breaking Bad, the average idiot like myself has a relative clue of how drugs get into the hands of Americans. And because of shows like Narcos and Breaking Bad, I know that someone in some South American country just lost a lottttt of money due to the U.S. Coast Guard.

According to the United States Coast Guard, the cutter Resolute stopped two drug-smuggling vessels in the Caribbean Sea back on March 17, seizing 2,600 pounds (!!!) of marijuana on board and detained seven suspects.

Just how much money did these drug dealers lose, you ask? The Coast Guard estimates the value of the seized marijuana to be $2.2 million WHOLESALE (I’m not a math guy, but I know that means like buying ALL of it at once — if you were to price it by the gram, it’d be a lot, lot more).

via Fox:

The Resolute returned from its 71-day deployment 10 days ago. Crewmembers unloaded the marijuana – some of which was disguised in bags labeled “pure Jamaican cane sugar” – this morning.

“By working hand-in-hand with DHS partners and the nation of Jamaica, we were able to efficiently interdict the 2,600 pounds of marijuana seen on the pier today,” Cmdr. Carmen DeGeorge, the Resolute’s commanding officer, said in a press release.

“Today’s offload represents the ongoing commitment of U.S. and international partners to combat transnational criminal networks and promote stability across the Caribbean region.”

No word on where the drugs were coming from or heading to, but we can only imagine there are some very unhappy (and wildly dangerous) buyers and sellers right now.

Over the course of the past few years, shootings such as these have been a scourge upon the country and people have struggled with coming up with a solution. Lockdowns have become all too common as a means of protection when students and faculty are in danger and today is no different.

This lockdown follows incidents at Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where events such as this have occurred.

UPDATE: Officials now believe that the shooting was a hoax; according to a press release, local police claimed that one caller instigated the story:

“On 05/08/18, at about 1138 hours, one original caller reported shooter on campus; all schools were placed on lockdown for student and faculty safety. No additional callers and original caller would not answer on callback. Multi agency response, all buildings cleared and everything is normal. We want to thank all the agencies that assisted and responded including KCDA investigators, CHP Hanford Division, KCSO, Kings County Gang Task Force, and Hanford PD. We take all threats serious and respond accordingly. All schools will resume a normal schedule once they finish with lunch break.”

According to multiple media reports, the UFC is currently targeting a Sept. 15 trip to Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia — it would be the UFC’s first-ever event held in the country.

The Secret To Manchester City’s Popularity

0
0

This past Sunday, the moment that Manchester City had been waiting for all season, finally arrived. Led by manager Pep Guardiola, the team won the Premier League trophy after a draw against Huddersfield. With only two more games in the league to go, the team is still hoping to break the record for the most goals, wins, and points in a single Premier League season.

With all its success, Manchester City has proven to be one of the most popular English teams. The club is still not on the same playing field as Barcelona or Real Madrid in terms of popularity; however, Manchester City is certainly working towards it. As of late, Manchester City is more than a team– it’s a brand, and it’s this kind of thinking that is pushing the club to be known more internationally.

Manchester City cares about its local fans, but if the team wants to become a greater soccer powerhouse, they will need a much larger fanbase. Therefore the team is spreading themselves far and wide, specifically through branding. Their digital and content strategy team has been working hard. They’ve been looking for ways to allow the fans to better connect with the club and what’s a better solution to this than constantly filming the players? Instagram videos have become a staple as a result, as has the “tunnel cam” which films players right before the start of each game. The video cameras are always on whether it’s in the locker room, at training, or on the field during game days. An Amazon documentary crew also followed the players around throughout this past season.

Instagram Photo

All of this is done with the purpose of giving fans a more personal experience and allowing them to become better acquainted with ManCity. It seems simple. Engaging with fans leads to a larger fan base. However, Manchester City’s content strategy team has four specific reasons why their method of madness has been so effective. The first is that the production quality always meets the standards of the fans. This includes everything from stories and interviews, to the graphics and presentations.

Second is being smart with influencers. Instead of just using celebrities and players, the content strategy team has also reached out to Youtubers and soccer content producers alike who have their own audiences.

Next, is the merging of both the men’s and women’s team in regards to branding. Instead of keeping the teams separate, the content strategy team advertises the teams together. Manchester City’s Women’s Team is just as impressive as the men’s team, which in turn has led to the content strategy team investing a lot towards both groups. So it makes sense they would market both teams. This also allows further exposure for the women’s team. In a world where it sometimes seems only the men’s teams matter, this is actually a noble thing ManCity is doing.

Instagram Photo

Lastly, and most importantly, Manchester City has done an excellent job of attracting a global audience. They’ve achieved this by translating their content into a variety of languages. For example, their web content alone has been translated into 13 languages. Additionally, the content strategy team has offices in a variety of countries. Not to mention, just last month, the club signed on to a multi-year partnership with Tinder. So watch out Real Madrid, ManCity is coming for ya!

WWE SmackDown Live Stream: How To Watch ‘SmackDown’ Online – 05/08/18

Backlash 2018 has happened and there are some questions left behind for the SmackDown Brand. We also start to look forward to Money in the Bank. What did Sunday’s event mean for the title picture on the blue brand? Who is going to go after gold immediately, or opt to get into the MITB match and take that path to glory?

Tonight SmackDown Live will be at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

Tonight’s card is already stacked with MITB qualifiers. US Champion Jeff Hardy will be taking on The Miz for the chance to be in the upcoming MITB Ladder Match. The Miz looks to get back into the Champions inner circle by winning the coveted briefcase but has a tall order with Hardy. Hardy might want to keep one eye open during the match since he defeated Randy Orton to retain his title at Backlash, and we all know what Orton has the propensity of doing out of nowhere…

Charlotte Flair suffered a surprising loss against Carmella at Backlash. The Princess of Staten Island took advantage of a hurt knee and pinned The Queen. Well, Charlotte gets a chance to flip the script on Carmella with her qualifying match for the women’s MITB match tonight. But there’s an extra plus side to this match, it’s against Peyton Royce, one half of The IIconics and one of the biggest reasons Carmella was able to defeat Charlotte in the first place. Will Charlotte get revenge and a chance to fight for the briefcase?

Daniel Bryan comes off a big win against Big Cass at Backlash and looks to overcome another big man to earn a spot in the MITB match. He will take on the Bulgarian Brute, Rusev. Bryan has proved that he can turn a man’s size against him but Rusev also has Aiden English in his corner, and we already know that Big Cass has become a fan of beating down Bryan regardless if Bryan is in another match or not. Will the crowd be chanting YES! or will it be a glorious Rusev Day!

What will Samoa Joe have to say after coming up short against Roman Reigns at Backlash? He has been tearing The Big Dog to shreds in promos for weeks and ended up getting pinned. Granted it took a few spears to put the big man down he still came up with the L. How will he respond, and will he still be coming for AJ Styles WWE Championship?

We also will get to see what AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura have to say to each other. Nakamura has spent the better part of the last month punching Styles in the groin. You’d think Styles nether regions was a pinata filled with a million dollars with how intensely and often he has been attacking it. What was the Backlash culmination? The two kicking each other in the crotch at the same time so hard neither could continue… yay World Championship! After losing three straight title matches, does Nakamura really deserve another match? We’ll see what he has to say.

Viktor Vekselberg Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Russian Oligarch Worth?

0

Viktor Vekselberg is a Russian oligarch who is about to become a familiar name to the American public. Vekselberg is being accused of giving $500,000 to Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who is currently under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller in the ongoing FBI probe into Russia’s involvement in the 2016 United States presidential election. There are now questions to whether that money was used to pay off porn star Stormy Daniels to remain silent about her alleged fair with Trump. The money was reportedly funneled to Cohen through shell companies like Columbus Nova, which is run by the Russian Billionaire. The money was deposited to an account for Essential Consultants, which is the company Cohen used to pay Daniels $130,000.

There are plenty of questions that need to be answered, but for many, the first question is simply: who is Viktor Vekselberg?

Well, he is worth nearly $15 billion — yes, with a “B” — and has close ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

How much is Vekselberg worth in 2018?

Viktor Vekselberg Net Worth 2018: $13.5 billion

According to Forbes.com, Vekselberg is worth a whopping $13.5 billion. Vekselberg made his first million dollars by selling scrap copper from worn-out cables, before being aluminem smelters and bauxite mines to form Sual Holding. Eventually, Vekselberg merged with another billionaire, Oleg Deripaska to form UC Rusal. From then on, the business thrived and Vekselberg eventually sold his stake for $7 billion.

Vekselberg is the fourth richest man in Russia.

About Viktor Vekselberg

Viktor Felixovich Vekselberg was born April 14, 1957, in Drohobych Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. He was born to a Ukrainian Jewish father and a Russian mother. Eventually, after moving to Moscow, Vekselberg graduated from Moscow Transportation Engineering Institute. The businessman worked his way up the ranks and is now the owner and president of Renova Group. Vekselberg has close ties to Vladimir Putin and the Moscow Kremlin, overseeing projects that modernize the Russian economy. Vekselberg is one of the 24 Russian nationals to receive sanctions from the United States government. He was also questioned at a New York airport by members of Robert Mueller’s special counsel of investigators.
