The Mets Commit Baseball’s Biggest Blunder

0
0

Early on in the season, the Mets were the surprise team of the MLB. Everything was falling into place. The team was hitting well, pitching well and playing great defense. Then, the injuries started to pile up again. Jacob DeGrom got hurt, and Matt Harvey continued to be the shell of the Dark Knight that Mets fans used to consider the “savior of the franchise.”

Now, that savior is a member of the 9-27 Cincinnati Reds, and was traded for former All-Star and current washout catcher Devin Mesoraco. And if that, to you, isn’t the definition of the New York Mets, maybe this is. The Mets were caught making baseball’s biggest mistake on Wednesday, batting out of order.

In baseball, mental errors are the worst kind, but just like physical errors you live and you learn. That being said, this one is going to be hard to come back from. After Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two out double in the top of the first inning, there was a feeling of confusion on the field as Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman came out to talk to home plate umpire Gabe Morales. Then, after a minute or two, Morales indicated that the next batter, Jay Bruce, was out. Cabrera’s double was wiped off the board, and the inning was over.

Are you serious? How do you let this happen? You have to write four copies of the lineup card! The opposing manager gets one, you get one, the umpire gets one and the official scorekeeper gets one, yet you can’t keep everything the same? That’s inexcusable. The Mets have lost seven of their last eight games, but this might be the true low point for a team that was the talk of the MLB around three weeks ago.

The Mets are currently sitting in fourth place in the NL East and falling fast, if they keep pulling stunts like this, it won’t be long before they’re sitting close to the Marlins with their record.

Phi Kappa Tau At ECU Suspended After Drugs & Alcohol Found In House

The Phi Kappa Tau fraternity at East Carolina University has been shut down following an investigation into the use of alcohol and drugs.

The Phi Kappa Tau national organization announced the closure of the ECU chapter on Monday, May 7. The fraternity was closed with no plans to reopen. The chapter was suspended in April after police seized more than 2,500 Xanax bars and two shotguns from the fraternity house, resulting in five fraternity members were charged with drug offenses.

This is the fourth fraternity closed or suspended at East Carolina University this year: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Delta Chi were all previously suspended or shut down.

Tim Hudson, the chief executive officer for Phi Kappa Tau’s national organization, released a statement on the closure:

“It is very disappointing to see a chapter that has strayed from our mission of providing brotherhood, learning, ethical leadership and exemplary character. The National Council has sent a clear message that the actions uncovered in the investigation are not permitted within our fraternity. We look forward to continuing our partnership with East Carolina University who is supportive of this action.”

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority suspension or closure in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who were shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

These 10 New TV Shows Can Be The Next ‘Game of Thrones’ In 2019-2020

HBO

While winter has finally come for the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, networks are on fire scrambling to be the one who lands the next big hit on their station. For all those who understand the intricacies of Westeros, this will be no easy feat. What show could possibly take center stage once the throne is seized? The world of high-budget fantasy is in a league of its own right now, which is the perfect time for networks to strike.

Looking back, Game of Thrones was a massive gamble from the studio since the beginning. The financials alone are mind-blowing not to mention the source material has yet to be completed… looking at you GRRM… but sometimes you have to swing for the fences if you wanna score. This list of potential series usurpers are not only risks, but some, pretty tough to wrap your brain around.

1.Kingkiller Chronicle – Showtime

Youtube/ScreenJunkies News

The Kingkiller Chronicle is a collaborative franchise from Lionsgate that includes a TV series adaption, a major feature film being penned by Lindsey Beer and interactive games all being developed concurrently. Lin-Manuel Miranda will serve as creative producer and musical mastermind since Lionsgate announced it last year. On top of that, Sam Raimi is set to direct the series!

Provided that Showtime can put together a team that can execute this massive undertaking, it will definitely be a strong contender. Also, the book readers already complaining that their beloved source material will be tarnished once it hits television sounds eerily similar to the Game of Thrones fandom.

With no word on a premiere date yet, Showtime did issue it’s official press release:

Set in the world of the wildly popular fantasy series by Rothfuss, The Kingkiller Chronicle will follow a pair of wandering performers on their adventures through the unique and startling world of Temerant, immersing audiences in a universe of unexpected heroes, mystical places, and terrifying dark forces. The television adaption is a subversive origin story of legendary proportions set a generation before the events of the trilogy’s first novel, The Name of the Wind.

2. Good Omens – Amazon

twitter/neilhimself

Let’s kick this off with a brief synopsis that even without David Tennant and Michael Sheen would have me hooked. Good Omen is set in a world where biblical legends are true, the keeper of the East gate of Heaven and the Serpent from the Garden of Eden unite to prevent the apocalypse as they’ve come to enjoy their quaint lives in the United Kingdom.

Now this show will definitely have some serious fantastical undertones but with actors like Jon Hamm, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Nick Offerman set to feature in key roles, there is bound to be some humor and banter taking place amidst all the fire and brimstone. Filming is currently underway with Gaiman acting as an executive producer and showrunner.

The six-episode series will debut on Amazon in 2019.

3. The Watch – TBD

twitter/flatearthmt

Adapted from the Terry Pratchett novels, the world of The Watch is set on a world that is really a disc held in place by four elephants standing on the back of a turtle, Discworld is both a parody of early fantasy works and a sweeping universe in its own right.

Thanks to the series, Prachett was the U.K.’s best-selling author in the 1990s. While Discworld does not tell one single overarching tale, its characters weave in and out of story lines. Pratchett’s work appeals to those with a wide sense of humor and a love of rich characters, not unlike Game of Thrones.

The BBC series will focus on the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. It is said to be a police procedural set in the major Discworld city, which will definitely set it apart from the likes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and NCIS.

The program does not have a distributor yet, but you can imagine it will be scooped up quickly by Syfy or Netflix.

4. The Wheel Of Time – Amazon/Sony

Youtube/BrideSide

Set in a world that is both Earth’s distant past and far future, the cycle of time is threatened by a Shadow of ultimate evil. It searches for “The Dragon Reborn,” a being of light fated to clash with the Shadow. Various enemies and allies of both sides appear as the main characters learn more about their fate and even cross into parallel worlds.

Amazon and Sony are developing the series in concert, but since that announcement in February, little more has been revealed. Without any key production personnel attached, it is hard to say if the series will be successful.

The key issue at the moment is whether or not Amazon will have any money to develop it once LOTR begins production. That’s honestly never a good place to start.

5. Lord Of The Rings – Amazon

Youtube/TuphSteel

This is the biggest question mark I have going into series’ development. Do we NEED more Lord of the Rings? I’m not talking about just one more LOTR entry, Amazon is committed to produce a five-season series based on The Lord of the Rings!

In partnership with Tolkien’s estate and the various rights holders of the Rings and Hobbit film series. According to various reports, it will focus on some of the side stories referenced in the epic, leaving the Fellowship’s journey south of the purview of the films.

Side stories pulled directly from The Lord of the Rings have a better chance of working creatively and commercially by their very nature; they share the same tone Tolkien envisioned for the War of the Ring. The Hobbit trilogy was not very well-received, but by extracting the best elements from LOTR with a more medieval twist, maybe the source material won’t feel so stale.

6. Conan – Amazon

Youtube/ComicBookCast2

Based on the stories of Robert E. Howard featuring Conan the Cimmerian who roamed a fictional “Hyborian Age” said to occur after the destruction of Atlantis, but before the rise of “modern” civilization. Amazon is developing a series based more directly on Howard’s stories than later authors’ work or the Marvel Comics series of the 1970s and ’80s.

Colony co-creator Ryan Condal hopes to reveal Conan’s search for a purpose, but the pilot will reportedly see him driven out of Cimmeria, possibly setting up his eventual fate on the Aquilonian throne. A quest for a throne… sounds familiar.

To ice the cake, Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik (“Battle of the Bastards”) is set to direct the pilot. Sapochnik has the ‘Midas Touch’ so I’d bet good money this show is a front-runner to take the throne.

7. The Witcher – Netflix

Youtube/Emergency Awesome

Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels and short stories centering on Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher who roams The Continent hunting legendary monsters and getting involved in geopolitical upsets (in spite of his own political neutrality). He eventually adopts Ciri, the princess of Cintra with ability to transverse space and time, and trains her as a Witcher.

Netflix picked up the rights to adapt the novel series back in May of last year. The Expanse’s Sean Daniel and Jason Brown were announced as executive producers with Sapowski set to serve as a creative consultant. The Witcher may be Netflix’s best chance at a true Lord of the Rings rival. Given a budget to make the monsters Geralt fights believable, it could surpass The Lord of the Rings.

The show is set to debut in 2020 as filming is set to begin later this year is Eastern Europe.

8. Cursed – Netflix

Youtube/BrideSide

Cursed is a retelling of the King Arthur legend though the eyes of Nimue, the Lady of the Lake as she journeys to deliver a sword to the wizard Merlin. Along for the ride is a young mercenary named Arthur. The source material is written by Frank Miller of 300 fame.

Netflix is developing a 10-part series alongside Wheeler and Miller’s final revisions of the novel. Both are attached to the project as executive producers, but no show runners or actors are as yet attached to the project. This sounds like a fresh take on an old fantasy tale which gives us hope that the material lives up to expectations.

9. Gormenghast – TBD

Youtube/The TV Museum

The story focuses around Titus Goran, reluctant heir to the immense Castle Gormenghast and the surrounding domain. But even as Titus grows up knowing he must eventually become a ruler, an ambitious kitchen boy plots his downfall.

Gormenghast has a strong advantage over many other series on this list. Unlike most of the other projects in development, Gormenghast is notable for a distinct lack of magic despite its fantasy setting. Like the grounded first season of Game of Thrones, the more realistic world will set it apart from Middle-earth and the Hyborian Age.

The project, which was only announced one month ago, has yet to find a streaming platform or broadcaster it can call home.

10. Game of Thrones Prequels – HBO

HBO

We couldn’t leave these off the list, could we!? While yes, they will have the power of HBO behind them, that in no way makes the prequels a sure things. They are the ultimate wildcard whether they will succeed their predecessor or crumble in the wake of more fresh and captivating series yet to come.

According to HBO president Casey Bloys, there could be as many as five prequel series after Game of Thrones completes its run next year. Developed with Martin and talents like The Leftovers‘ Carly Wray and Kick-Ass‘s Jane Goldman, multiple premises are said to be in a competition for one singular broadcast slot. But Bloys also called having two or more potential series ready for air a “high class problem” he would solve should more than one pilot script prove exceptional. No matter how many prequels HBO ends up putting in production, they will all be set before the era depicted in Games of Thrones.

Let’s be frank, this will either be a massive hit or a train wreck. HBO has stated on multiple occasions that one of the potential prequels will NOT be Robert’s Rebellion… pretty much the singular event viewers are dying to see. Not cool, guys. So with several options on the table, should it fail, they have four more ideas to use.

Whether you have a favorite on this list or not, it’s a lot of information to digest. It’s going to be hard saying farewell to Game of Thrones but with any luck one or more of these shows will step up to the plate. The insane amount of money Amazon is putting into series’ development can either spell success or imminent disaster. HBO is always a safe bet to keep the tone of ASOIAF consistent. My advice is to hope for the best, but until CGI budgets get revealed, expect the worst.

The Best Mother’s Day Gifts on a College Student’s Budget

Shutterstock

Mother’s Day is around the corner, leaving everyone wondering: A) how the hell is it almost June already? and B) what the hell should I get my Mom? While we may never have any answer to question A (seriously, why do years go by faster as you get older?), question B can likely be solved, even if you are surviving on a minuscule college budget.

So with the interest of your pitiful wallet in mind, here are the best Mother’s Day gifts for those of you who are trying to get by on a measly college student budget.

4.0 GPA

Shutterstock

This one is ballsy, but if your Mom is like most Moms, then a 4.0 GPA should be a gift in it of itself. Are you a douchebag for using your grades as a Mother’s Day gift? ABSOLUTELY. But if anyone understands how broke you are, it’s your parents.

Now, this “gift” requires like four to five months of diligent class attendance, homework and studying, but luckily for you, the end of the spring semester more or less lines up with Mother’s Day, so you can parlay your (hopefully) good grades into a timely Mother’s Day gift.

Do we suggest doing this? No, not at all. But given that you just got home from college (where you spent all your money on weed and alcohol) and haven’t had a chance to stack some paper from your summer job, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Cook Her Dinner

Shutterstock

If you’re in college, you should (hopefully) know how to cook a decent meal by now. And if you don’t, get a f*cking grip and grow up, man — you’re in your twenties, you should be able to cook at least ONE full-fledged meal by now. Steak, chicken, lasagna, tacos, pork — whatever it is — a woman, Moms included, always enjoy a homecooked meal (as long as it’s good) made with love.

Despite this saying being long-cliched, it remains true nonetheless: it’s the thought that counts when it comes to gift giving, and the effort it takes to cook a full course meal should be enough to please any reasonable Mom on Mother’s Day (just DON’t burn it).

Flowers & A Thoughtful Card

Shutterstock

As we said earlier, desperate times can call for desperate measures, and getting your Mom the simple flowers/card combo is definitely a desperate — yet tried and true — measure.

Look, we all know the flower/card combo is the most unoriginal and unthoughtful gift imaginable, but for whatever reason, Mothers can’t seem to get enough of them. Maybe its because Mothers are more sentimental than most, but a well-written, thought-out card and some nice flowers always seem to do the trick.

While I happen to believe that flowers and a card should be — for lack of a better term — the cherry on top of the actual Mother’s Day gift, they have the ability to stand on their own if your monetary situation is dire enough.

Wayne Rooney Net Worth 2018: How Much Is The Soccer Star Worth?

0
0

All signs are pointing to Wayne Rooney crossing the pond and inking a deal with MLS DC United. The agreement per reports is agreed to in principle but still needs to be finalized. Rooney has grown increasingly frustrated with Everton after signing a 2-year contract in 2017. He would join a list of players that include David Beckham and Thierry Henry to make a move later in their careers to the MLS.

So how much is England’s all-time goal scorer Rooney worth?

Net Worth as of 2018: $145 million

It’s safe to say Rooney’s many goals scored on the soccer field has translated to him scoring in the bank account. Rooney has been among the top-10 highest paid soccer players in the world for the past decade. His athletic accomplishments also garnered him big sponsorship deals most notably with Nike, to put the icing on the cake.

Early Life

Rooney born on October 24th, 1985 is of Irish descent and raised as a roman catholic. He was born in Croxteth, Liverpool where he was raised with his younger brothers Graham and John. Growing up Rooney supported Everton and at nine years old joined their youth team. In 2002 at just 16 years-old Rooney made his professional debut. In two seasons as a pro, Manchester United came calling with £25.6 million transfer window deal. The fee was the highest ever paid for a player under 20.

In 2003 at the age of 17 Rooney made his senior international debut for England. At the time he was the youngest player ever to represent England. Rooney also became and still holds the record as the youngest goalscorer in England’s history.

2004-2017

Instagram Photo

Rooney at 18 years-old caught the attention of many after the multi-million-pound deal was executed. His United debut came on September 28th against Fenerbahçe and Rooney wasted no time scoring three goals and adding an assist. The hat-trick made Rooney the youngest player ever to achieve the feat in Champions League history. Rooney would finish his first season as the teams top league goal scorer and earned the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

In his second season with United, Rooney would claim his first trophy in the 2005-2006 League Cup. Rooney who became player with the flare for the dramatics was named Man of the Match in the final, scoring two of the four goals in a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic. Rooney finished the Premier League season with 16 goals in 26 games.

In the 2006-2007 season, Rooney collected his first Premier League title winner’s medal. For the season he scored 14 goals. The year did not come without controversy though. Rooney received a 3-game ban after elbowing Pepe in the Amsterdam Tournament. He threatened to revoke the use of his image if the ban was not repealed. Ultimately, Rooney accepted and served his ban.

Also during the 2006 year, Rooney played in his first World Cup. He was coming off an injury that slowed him throughout the tournament. England as a team did not have a good showing, losing in the quarterfinals. Rooney’s temper again flared up as he was red carded after his physical altercation with Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho. During the incident, Rooney shoved his United teammate Cristiano Rinaldo. Rooney was fined CHF5,000.

In 2009 Rooney was awarded the captain cap for the first time during Englands World Cup qualifying. In the qualifying tournament, Rooney finished with nine goals one shy of the tournament lead. The 2010 World Cup was one to forget for Rooney and the English team. England fans booed the team relentlessly due to poor play. Rooney went scoreless during the tournament and England was bounced in the second round.

In 2012 the English team suffered another international tournament loss. During the Euro 2012, England was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Italy. After the loss, the Italian Manager Fabio Capello claimed Rooney “only plays well in Manchester.”

Rooney again poorly played in the 2014 World Cup drawing the ire of British pundits. England finished last during the group stage following a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica.

During the 2015-2016 Premier League season, Rooney became the second all-time leading goal scorer in the league’s history. Fifteen days later he would overtake Thierry Henry for most goals scored on one Premier League club. Then late in 2016, Rooney became the all-time leading scorer in Manchester United team history in European competitions.

In early January 2017, Rooney eclipsed Bobby Charlton as the outright leader in goals in Manchester United history. After the accomplishment, Charlton presented Rooney with the Golden Boot to acknowledge him as the all-time leading goal scorer.

2018-present

Instagram Photo

Rooney returned to Everton after 12 seasons with Manchester United. Rooney would go on to score his 200th Premier League goal during the season. Rooney grew frustrated with the team over multiple issues and has since explored options in the MLS with DC United.

Also, Rooney announced he would be retiring from international play following the 2018 World Cup.

Rooney won 16 trophies with Manchester United. He is also only the second English player to win the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, League Cup, UEFA Europa League and FIFA Club World Cup.

Jeremy Roenick Sits Down With COED To Talk NHL Playoffs

0
0

Jeremy Roenick

It might have been an off day in the quest for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but that didn’t stop former nine-time All-Star and current NHL on NBC analyst Jeremy Roenick from stopping by the office to talk some pucks.

Roenick has been on NHL on NBC’s coverage of the playoffs every night of the postseason, and his knowledge of every team still remaining is second to none. J.R., as he’s referred to, spent time speaking with us about the unbelievable run the Vegas Golden Knights are on, his thoughts on Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals, and several other topics.

Here are the best hits from COED’s conversation with Jeremy Roenick.

The best two words in sports, Game Seven, was the first thing that came to mind for NHL on NBC’s analyst with the game taking place tomorrow night in Nashville, currently nicknamed, “Smashville.”

“I think it’s going to be an amazing game,” Roenick said with enthusiasm. “This series has turned out to be everything that we wanted. And you know, you look at the standings in the regular season, you had Nashville number one, and Winnipeg number two. I think they are the two best teams in the National Hockey League.”

Roenick was quick to point out that it was almost destined for the two teams — the Predators and Jets — to meet in the second round, but just like many around the hockey world, he feels they should have faced off in the Western Conference Finals. “Yeah, probably. When you have the two best teams it’s nice to have that,” he added. Having Nashville and Winnipeg battling it out the way they are, Roenick believes is as fitting as any matchup in the playoffs. He also said that the winner of the pivotal game seven will be the team to hoist the Stanley Cup next month.

Instagram Photo

The team awaiting the Winnipeg-Nashville winner, the Vegas Golden Knights, continue to write the best story in professional sports. Roenick acknowledged just how special this Knights team has become.

“It’s probably one of the most impressive things that we’ve seen in sports,” Roenick said comparing the Knights unprecedented run to Leicester City who won the Premier League Championship in 2015-16. “If Vegas can match that, I think it would go down as the biggest surprise in sports history, that an expansion team in a major sport can win a championship in their first year.

I’ve never seen an expansion team gain so much traction and such a big fanbase in one year. It has been one of the best places to watch a game. The atmosphere is amazing. Who would have thought that a team in Vegas sells out every single game? The city has embraced them. The team has embraced the city. They’ve rallied around each other (referencing the Vegas shootings last year in October) and knocked the sports world on its ear.”

Another team that has flipped the script in this postseason is the Washington Capitals. After years of torment, they finally exorcised their demons and defeated the back-to-back defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The hockey world is pushing the Caps now as the darlings of these playoffs, but Roenick isn’t sold just yet.

“Listen, they’ve gotten further than they have in 20 years, is it there year to win the Cup? I don’t know.”

He seems to think that finally getting past round two and beating the Penguins along the way are big confidence boosters, but there still a dimension that could be holding them back.

“They think they can just go on the ice and play and win. That’s not going to happen against Tampa. They have to be 100% committed fully to playing playoff hockey. And playing as hard and gritty against a very good Tampa team. I still think they’re underdogs, so they can use that to their benefit. The pressure is off them.”

The series between the Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning, which gets underway Friday, Roenick says will be a great offensive display. The analyst also added that the key to this series will be the health of Caps forward Nicklas Backstrom. If he is out for any significant amount of time, the Caps will be in big trouble. As for in net, Roenick believes the showdown of Andrei Vasilevskiy against Braden Holtby is as even as you could make it.

There’s always things that catch the eye of the viewer in the playoffs, and according to Roenick, these playoffs have been just as thrilling as any in recent seasons. “Every year, everybody always says, ‘This is the best playoffs we’ve ever seen, this is the best hockey I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen playoffs this good’, and they’re saying it again this year. The fact that the people continue to be impressed with the level of hockey, but for me, it’s how it has played out. Every good team in the league is still playing.”

Instagram Photo

Aside from the best teams still in the mix, there has been an abundance of individual performances that have stood out. J.R. pointed out that Brayden Point in Tampa has quickly jumped himself up to superstar status. A point has recorded in each of the Bolts ten playoff games.

“This kid, he carried Tampa through the second round to beat Boston. The fact that Tampa beat Boston without their top line going, shows me how good Brayden Point is,” Roenick explained.

With the Jets still fighting for a chance to possibly lift the Stanley Cup, Roenick feels that not only if they make it, but win it all, time would stop for a little bit. The Jets could be in the Cup Final, but if he had to predict who he would like to see in the Finals, Vegas and Washington would be Roenick’s matchup.

“I love Alex Ovechkin. I think it would solidify his legacy,” Roenick expressed. “That Stanley Cup would solidify his career. Solidifies his greatness. He’s a guaranteed Hall of Famer for sure, but that Stanley Cup puts a stamp on it. For Vegas, it just speaks for itself. It would be crazy if an expansion team won it all.”

Instagram Photo

Getting away from the playoffs and talking about the locals, Roenick didn’t mince words.

“Trouble for both the Islanders and Rangers. Promising for the Devils.”

As for working with “Mad Mike”, J.R. shared both the good and bad of the enigmatic analyst.

“I’ll tell you, if you take Mike Milbury and put him in a social setting, he’s one of the best entertainers and one of the best storytellers. One of the best buddies that you can have. You put him in front of a camera and make him work late nights, and you try to battle the different mentalities, it can get pretty hairy.

There’s times when I love Mike Milbury, and there’s times I can’t wait until he’s gone. Just like me, sometimes we don’t get our point across as nicely as we want too.”

The lock down at George Washington High School is just the latest in a string of threats, lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.

Over the course of the past few years, shootings such as these have been a scourge upon the country and people have struggled with coming up with a solution. Lockdowns have become all too common as a means of protection when students and faculty are in danger and today is no different.

This lockdown follows incidents at Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where events such as this have occurred.

Greg Dietrich, a college friend of Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia, recently made headlines when the Detroit News found an old sexual assault accusation that was made against the two, in a case that did not end in any convictions after the witness failed to testify in court.

What happened?

According to the exclusive Detroit News report, in 1996, an unidentified woman told police that she met the men on a Texas beach while visiting South Padre Island during a spring break vacation. The woman claimed the “two men burst into the upscale hotel room where she was sleeping and took turns violently sexually assaulting her.”

The case, which dates back to 1996, fell through when the accuser failed to testify; neither of the two men, both of whom deny the accusations, were convicted. The cases could also be seen on the Cameron County, Texas public records website.

According to Detroit News, Dietrich’s attorney also issued the following statement concerning the case:

“If your complaining witness is not willing to come into court and testify, a case doesn’t get any weaker than that. [Dietrich] pled not guilty; he denied any responsibility for this, and the charges were dismissed. Once an indictment is dismissed, you’re as innocent as the day before you were accused.”

Who is Greg Dietrich?

At the time of the accusation, Patricia and Dietrich both attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a technological university. On his official LinkedIn account, Dietrich received a BS in industrial and management engineering. He later attended Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management and received an MBA at Columbia University’s Business School.

According to his LinkedIn page, Dietrich is the vice president of operations engineering and excellence for DXC Technology, a position he’s been in since August of 2016. Other companies he’s worked for in the past include GE, IBM and Credit Suisse.

In a newsletter for RPI Athletics newsletter, Dietrich also discussed his former days as a football player:

“I have so many memorable moments of my playing days at RPI during the ’92 – ’95 seasons. It was an honor to part of 3 ECAC championship teams while Coach King led us to a 31-8 record over those 4 seasons. Not bad for a program that had never been to a post-season before that 1992 season. There were countless inspiring pre-game, half-time and post-game speeches to remember. There were countless intense sideline moments…”

“I was familiar with RPI b/c some alum from my HS were students or alums of RPI – so I applied early and checked the box that indicated I was interested in football.”

According to Detroit News, it is believed that Dietrich and Patricia are still in-touch with each other.

Conor McGregor has been absent from the UFC since November 2016. “The Notorious” has been stripped of his featherweight and lightweight titles due to inactivity, and there is no indication on when he will be returning to the cage. But McGregor has still been able to keep his name in the headlines, even if it is for all of the wrong reasons. Now, he is back in the headlines because of what he is doing in mixed martial arts even if it isn’t an actual fight.

This week, McGregor took to social media to show off a video of what is his first publicly seen sparring session since the Floyd Mayweather fight.

Prince Henry of Wales, better known as Prince Harry, is a member of the British royal family. The son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, he is the sixth in line of succession to the British throne, pending his brother, Prince William, having more children. He’s also made headlines for his engagement to American actress Meghan Markle, with Kensington Palace announcing their May 2018 wedding. Let’s take a look at his life over the years, starting with his net worth.

Prince Harry Net Worth: £28.7 million

According to estimates, Prince Harry’s net worth is estimated to be as much as £28.7 million, or $40 million in American dollars. Let’s take a look at his life over the years.

The Early Years

Instagram Photo

Harry was born the second child of Charles, Prince of Wales, heir apparent to Queen Elizabeth II, and Diana, Princess of Wales, after his brother, Prince William, and was baptized as Henry Charles Albert David. Throughout his childhood, Diana wanted her sons to have broad experiences, taking them to places ranging from Disney World to homeless shelters. Joining in on their parents’ official duties became a priority at an early age and so Harry and William accompanied their parents on official visits as early as 1985, during a tour of Italy. In 1996, Harry’s parent’s divorced; the following year, his life was shaken when his mother died in a car crash in Paris when he was just 12 years old.

2000-2009

After attending Ludgrove School, Harry was admitted to Eton College, upon passing the entrance exams, defying the family tradition of attending Gordonstoun School. By 2003, he finished his education with two A-Levels, after which he took a gap year that involved spending time in Australia. By 2005, however, he entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, completing his officer training within a year. By 2008, he reached two years’ seniority and was promoted to lieutenant, after it was announced two years prior that his unit was scheduled to be deployed in Iraq. For his service, Harry was presented with an Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan by his aunt, Princess Anne, at the Combermere Barracks in May 2008.

By 2011, Harry was promoted to captain; the same year, the following year saw his second deployment to Afghanistan as part of the 100-strong 662 Squadron, 3 Regiment, Army Air Corps. In early 2014, Harry launched Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style sporting event for injured servicemen and women. By 2015, it was announced that he would leave the Armed Forces in June. In 2016, Kensington Palace confirmed that Harry was in a relationship with American actress Meghan Markle, with the two making their first public appearance the following year. Towards the end of 2017, their engagement was officially announced, with the wedding planned for St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on 19 May 2018.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to tie the knot later this month, in a wedding that is expected to have a lot of social significance, and we have all the information you need on what to expect from the nuptials. Just scroll down below to see who is attending, who is involved in the wedding party and what the receptions are going to be like. Yes, I said receptions, because there are going to be two.

What to expect from the royal wedding?

According to Evening Standard, the wedding party will be a family event, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte serving as a page boy and a flower girl respectively. Added to that, Meghan Markle’s father Thomas Markle will walk her down the aisle after traveling to George’s Chapel in a car with her mother Doria Ragland. Prince William will be his brother’s best man for the ceremony but Markle will not have a maid of honor.

The royal couple has also invited 2,640 members of the public to Windsor Castle to watch the event; to celebrate the community, 1,200 of these people will include young people who have shown “strong leadership and those who have served their communities.”

Celebrities expected to attend include the Beckhams and other members of the Spice Girls; some others rumored to attend include Elton John and George Clooney. That said, various political figures, such as Prime Minister Theresa May or President Donald Trump, were not invited; as Prince Harry is not in the direct line of succession, there was less of an obligation to do so.

For many, the upcoming wedding has a lot of the social significance, as Markle is both an American and a woman of mixed-race marrying into the British royal family.

The royal couple is expected to first appear at the church at around 11:20 A.M. local time, although there is speculation that they might arrive earlier, but the ceremony is expected to take place at noon and will last for about an hour. After the service, the royal couple will have two receptions at two different locations: St. George’s Hall and Frogmore House; the St. George’s Hall reception is believed to be intended for the public and the Frogmore House reception, which will take place in the evening, is intended to be private.

Christian Eriksen Net Worth 2018: How Much Is He Worth?

Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are three names that have been grouped together pretty often. As the attacking trio for Tottenham Hotspur, they’re a fearsome bunch. Though the three are known for their goal-scoring skills, Eriksen adds another very vital component: creativity. The attacking midfielder has an insane awareness of the field, and as such he sees things other players do not. He finds these incredible passes and open spaces. As a result, Eriksen is very much involved in the passing sequence and is a seasoned veteran when it comes to making assists. Not to mention, he’s a hard player to track on the field which has largely helped the Spur’s attack. With extraordinary talent comes an extraordinary paycheck. Let’s find out how much the Danish native is worth today!

Christian Eriksen Net Worth 2018: $5 Million

The soccer craftsman has a net worth estimated to be around $5 million as of 2018. He currently receives a weekly paycheck of £75,000 for the Spurs.

Valentine’s Day Baby

Eriksen was born on February 14, 1992 in Middelfart, Denmark. He was a quiet kid who gravitated to the game at a very early age. Even before his third birthday, Eriksen was kicking a soccer ball. His younger sister, Louise followed in suit, and also joined the game at a very tender age. Last year, Louise had her first call-up to Denmark’s Women’s National Team. Eriksen played for his local club team until 2005. He then switched to Odense Boldklub where he snagged the title of “Best Technical Player.” European scouts caught word of this and started to take much interest in the young Danish boy.

The Trials

Instagram Photo

At age 15, Eriksen was invited to Spain, Italy, and England to participate in trials for Barcelona, Milan, and Chelsea. He was so dedicated to practicing that even after training, he could be found messing around with the ball. Additionally, he was obsessed with watching videos of his soccer idols such as Beckham and Zidane, as to learn from them. Unfortunately, none of the teams accepted him.

Thank You, Ajax

Instagram Photo

Eriksen started to train with some youth teams from Ajax Academy in 2008 and was signed. On January 17, 2010, he made his first debut with the squad. A month later, Eriksen made his first appearance for the Denmark National Team. He was the youngest player in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, it wasn’t until his 2010/2011 season, that things started to really fall into place for Eriksen. In 2011, he was named Danish Football player of the Year, Dutch Football Talent of the Year and Ajax Talent of the Year.

The Spurs

Instagram Photo

After 162 appearances with Ajax, Eriksen finally split from the team and signed on with Tottenham Hotspur in September 2013 for the small price of £11 million. He has become an extremely vital player for the team since then. In 2017 and 2018, he earned a spot on PFA’s Team of the Year, and recently, he won Goal of the Month for April of this year. The goal was a 30-yard strike against Chelsea, but it’s only one among the many other brilliant goals Eriksen has had. It seems as though things have come full-circle for the 26-year-old. He was once a young boy watching videos of the great soccer superstars, and now he’s one of them.

Sarah Braasch Photos: Full Story & Must-See Details

A white woman at Yale University, later identified as Sarah Braasch, who was studying for her Ph.D. in philosophy at the school, called police on a black graduate student, Lolade Siyonbola, who was sleeping in the common room of her own dorm, with video coverage of the incident went viral after it was posted on Facebook earlier this month. The school itself has since criticized the incident, claiming that it showcased bias and discrimination.

What happened?

Siyonbola recorded her interaction with Braasch as the Yale Police officers responded to the 911 call. As can be seen in the video, Braasch could be heard saying, “I have every right to call the police you cannot sleep in that room,” while taking photos of Siyonbola.

A second video expanded upon the situation, showcasing Siyonbola talking with police over the situation:

“I deserve to be here. I paid tuition like everybody else. I am not going to justify my existence here. I am not going to be harassed.”

“I was sleeping in the common room and [Braasch] comes in and turns the lights on and was like, ‘Why are you sleeping here? You’re not supposed to be sleeping here. I’m going to call the police.’”

What are people saying about the incident?

According to the Yale Daily News, Braasch reported a black student for being in her hall at least once before, with the incident indirectly involving Siyonbola; another student, identified as Jean-Louis Reneson, told the publication that he filed a complaint against Braasch in March after she called the police on him after he appeared at the building for a meeting with Siyonbola and other students, with Braasch refusing to believe that he was a student.

According to Yale News, Yale’s Vice President for Student Life, Kimberly M. Goff-Crews, also released the following statement:

“I am deeply troubled by an incident that took place Monday night in the Hall of Graduate Studies.”

“One graduate student called the police to report another student in the common area, who had every right to be there. The Yale police officers who responded spoke with both parties and subsequently admonished the complaining student that the other student had every right to be present.”

Who is Sarah Braasch?

According to the school’s official philosophy department website, Braasch obtained two summa cum laude engineering degrees, in aerospace and mechanical, from the University of Minnesota; she also earned her JD from Fordham Law and she is a member of the NYS Bar. Said to be something of an advocate of “secularism and women’s rights advocacy,” her other interests were listed as “applying game theory and cognitive science to the philosophical foundations of law.”

“Her graduating with two summa cum laude engineering degrees from the University of Minnesota, Sarah’s path wound its way into a career in the boutique hotel industry in LA and Miami. Her 30th birthday brought into focus her desire to become an international human rights lawyer, with a focus on women’s sexual and reproductive rights.”

The SF State website also wrote the following about Braasch:

“Her graduating with two summa cum laude engineering degrees from the University of Minnesota, Sarah’s path wound its way into a career in the boutique hotel industry in LA and Miami. Her 30th birthday brought into focus her desire to become an international human rights lawyer, with a focus on women’s sexual and reproductive rights.”

“Her experience with NPS – which fights for universal human rights founded in secularism, gender equality and gender desegregation—alongside her work as a separation of church and state activist, developed her interests in philosophy of law. During her doctoral studies, Sarah will continue her present work in the philosophical foundations of law to attack at the root the problem of the subhuman legal status of women. She aspires to a lifelong career as a legal philosopher and women’s rights advocate. She has recently been invited to present at the 9th International Symposium on Cognition, Logic, and Communication at the University of Latvia in Riga.”

Kevin de Bruyne Net Worth 2018: How Much Is He Worth?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that Kevin de Bruyne, besides Messi, is one of the best soccer players he’s ever seen. It’s a very bold statement, but once you witness the ManCity midfielder on the turf, you can’t help but agree. He’s not a goal-scoring Salah, but overall Kevin de Bruyne is what you call “The Complete Player.” He’s a leader on the field, an intelligent playmaker and an aggressive attacker whose always looking to be better. With the great success ManCity has encountered this past season, most notably their new title as “Premier League Champions,” de Bruyne has popped up on nearly everyone’s radar in the soccer world. De Bruyne has been standing on stage with the greats for a long time, but now it seems as though the spotlight is focused solely on him. Let’s take a look at how much the 26-year-old is making today!

Kevin de Bruyne Net Worth 2018: $30 Million

As of 2018, Kevin de Bruyne’s net worth is estimated to be around $30 million. He earns £260,000 weekly for Manchester City.

Destined for Fame

Instagram Photo

De Bruyne was born in Ghent, Belgium on June 28, 1991. He started playing the game early, at the age of 4. While playing on his youth club, he attracted an overwhelming amount of media attention. There were two main reasons for this. First, de Bruyne was a very impressive player even at his young age and second, Belgium’s soccer culture was suffering. The country had mostly older players who weren’t performing to fans’ expectations. Therefore the country looked to de Bruyne to be the future of Belgian soccer. No pressure.

The Genk Academy

Instagram Photo

Constantly on television being interviewed, de Bruyne received wide recognition. Every youth club was seeking him out. At the age of 14, he left home and decided to join the Genk Academy. In 2008, at 17 years old, the youngster trained with Genk’s professional team for the first time. Put simply: de Bruyne stunned. He barked orders at the older players and criticized them without any hesitation.

The players and coaches couldn’t believe the audacity of this ginger-haired boy. Not only was it a casual game, but that was literally the first time he ever trained with the team. However, upon seeing his level of play and realizing that maybe de Bruyne was just setting the bar high, the pro players found that they had respect for the kid. He then became a regular player for the team.

Before He Found Manchester City

Instagram Photo

De Bruyne enjoyed his time with Genk, but he wanted to grow as a player and he didn’t think he could do that there. Therefore in January 2012, de Bruyne left Genk and joined Chelsea. He didn’t play much because in 2014 he was loaned out to Wolfsburg in Germany. The following year, he became Germany’s Footballer of the Year after he scored 10 goals and accumulated 21 assists in one season. De Bruyne was then offered a position on Jurgen Klopp’s team, Borussia Dortmund. Despite the temptation to play for Klopp, the Belgian signed on with Manchester City.

The Sky Blues

In August 2015, ManCity confirmed the signing of de Bruyne for £51 million. Since then, de Bruyne has been viewed as one of Europe’s best players. In 2017, he was rewarded with a spot on UEFA’s Team of the Year. Additionally, he was named to PFA’s Team of the Year in both 2017 and 2018. He’s currently first in the Premier League for assists with a total of 15. De Bruyne also has been playing for the Belgium National Team since 2010.

Red Sox/Yankees: The Rivalry Is Back

0
0

Alex Rodriguez vs. Jason Varitek. We probably won’t see anything like that in sports for a very long time, but the greatest rivalry in professional sports is heating up. The Yankees came into the latest series against the Red Sox winners of 15 of their last 16 and took over the best record in the league and the lead in the AL East after taking the first two games from the Red Sox.

Unlike the first series in Boston, this is real Sox/Yankees baseball. Close games with late-inning drama are what baseball fans want to see out of this series. That’s what last night’s game gave us, with Hanley Ramirez’s go-ahead home run in the 7th, and Brett Gardner’s triple to retake the lead in the 8th.

We’ve already seen a brawl this year between these teams, and it doesn’t look like the feud between Joe Kelly, and Tyler Austin is going away anytime soon. Kelly was welcomed to New York by a cascade of boos, after being celebrated in Boston with standing ovations at a Bruins playoff game, and during his first appearance after the fight.

Instagram Photo

Two huge acquisitions have helped reignite the rivalry. For the Red Sox, it was All-Star slugger J.D Martinez, who has proven to be one of the best hitters in all of baseball. Martinez is currently hitting .351 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs and is showing Red Sox fans he was worth every penny. For the Yankees, it was 2017 National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton. After a slow start, Stanton has begun to hit his stride as he’s currently hitting .237 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs.

We haven’t seen a brawl yet in this series, but expect another one by the end of the season. The fight with the Red Sox seemed to light a fire under the Yankees, as they’ve only lost three games since. They definitely still want retaliation, and if a Yankee pitcher, like say Dellin Betances, were to throw at anyone on the Red Sox, there would definitely be fireworks. This is the perfect year for the Sox and Yankees to face in the playoffs, and it definitely would be one of the most memorable playoff series in any sport in recent history.
