Authorities say that “the school is on lockdown, and everyone is working to keep students and staff members safe.”

The lockdown at Petersburg High School is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States. Over the course of the past few years, shootings such as these have been a scourge upon the country and people have struggled with coming up with a solution. Lockdowns have become all too common as a means of protection when students and faculty are in danger and today is no different.

This incident follows similar incidents at Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where events such as this have occurred.

Klay Thompson Net Worth 2018: How Much Is Thompson Worth?

Any NBA fan can tell you when you think about the Golden State Warriors, they think of Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and the man we’re about to profile, Klay Thompson.

Thompson, 28, is an American shooting guard for the Warriors and one of the most recognized players in the sport. He is a two-time NBA champion, four-time NBA All-Star, and a three-time winner with Team USA. The shooting guard’s stock has risen dramatically since he was drafted 11th overall in the 2011 draft.

But the question remains, just how much is Klay Thompson worth right now?

Klay Thompson’s Net Worth As Of 2018: $21.9 Million

Thompson has been awarded over $16.9 million in salary for Golden State in the present day. He signed a four-year, $68 million dollar contract in 2015. His endorsements award him five million dollars, and they include, BodyArmor, Panini, Anta, Electronic Arts, and Gillette. For the 2017-18 season, Thompson’s salary is a whopping $17.8 million. In 2018-19, he will have made $18.9 million on the court.

Early Life

Instagram Photo

Klay Thompson was born to Julie and Mychal Thompson on February 8, 1990, in Los Angeles, California. His mother was a volleyball player, while his father was a former first overall pick in the 1978 NBA Draft.

When he was just two, Thompson and his family moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon. It was in Lake Oswego, he befriended another fellow NBA star, Kevin Love.

12 years later, at age 14, Klay and his family moved back to California, settling in Ladera Ranch. Spending his teen years in Ladera Ranch, Thompson graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic High School in 2008.

At Santa Margarita, Thompson was named All-Area second team and Orange County third team in his junior year. As a senior, he led his team in points per game and helped bring them to a Division II State Championship appearance.

Following his record performance in the state finals, Thompson received honors as Division III State player of the year, League MVP, First team Best in the West, and EA Sports Second Team All American.

Washington State

After finishing high school, Thompson took his talents to Washington State University. In his freshman season, he started in all 33 games for the Cougars. Thompson garnered Pac-10 All-Freshman Team honors for his campaign.

In his second season, the sharpshooter led the Cougars to the Great Alaska Shootout Championship. Thompson’s season would also include him becoming the third fastest player in Washington State to reach 1,000 points, All-Pac-10 First Team, and the John R. Wooden Award. His averaging of 19.6 points, was second best in the Pac 10.

As a Junior, Thompson earned his second straight All-Pac-10 First Team honors and led the conference in scoring. He was also recognized with first-team all-district from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Thompson would skip his senior season and declare for the NBA Draft. Overall, he ended his college career averaging 17.9 points per game, at the top of WaSu’s single-season scoring record list with 733 points, and third all-time in scoring at State.

The WaSu stud also helped win Team USA win gold at the 2009 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.

The Warriors selected Thompson 11th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. It was revealed some time ago, that Warriors g.m. Larry Riley was in favor of Thompson’s shooting ability and could improve his defense under then head coach, Mark Jackson.

His rookie season in Golden State, Thompson averaged 12.5 points a game, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. Those numbers got him voted as a member of the NBA All-Rookie First Team. As a sophomore, Thompson’s game continued to improve and he and teammate Steph Curry began to form the best shooting duo in the Association. He and the Warriors finally made noise in the playoffs bowing out to the San Antonio Spurs in six games in the second round.

In his third season, Thompson became a household name. He and Curry set a new NBA record for three-pointers with 484, besting their record performance from the year prior. His 18.4 points per game, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists helped the Warriors claim the sixth seed in the West, eventually losing to the Clippers in the first round in a memorable seven-game series.

The summer of 2014, Thompson played part in Team USA’s gold medal win at the FIBA World Cup

Instagram Photo

The 2014-15 season would be Thompson’s best to date. In late October, he signed a four-year extension with Golden State for $68 million. Thompson’s stellar season earned him his first All-Star appearance. He set a career-high in points with 52 on January 23, 2015, in a 126-101 win over Sacramento. Golden State would make it to the NBA Finals that June and Thompson shined in the spotlight. In Game 2, he would record a career-high 34 points in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. That loss didn’t matter, as the Warriors won the Finals in six games, ending the franchise’s 40-year championship drought.

Following up his part in the Warriors title season of 2014-15, Thompson upped his performance. He started the season averaging 17.2 points per game over his first 21 games. His play helped the Warriors to a record 24 consecutive wins. Thompson would be given his second-straight All-Star nod and he would win the Three-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend, defeating his teammate Curry and Devin Booker. In late March, Thompson registered back-to-back 40-point games.

The Warriors would make it to the NBA Finals again, due in part to Thompson’s brilliant performance in game seven of the Conference Finals against the Thunder. He hit 11 three-pointers and scored 41 points.

After falling to the Cavaliers in seven games in the Finals, Thompson and the Warriors went on a mission in 2016-17. On December 5th, Thompson scored 60 points in 28 minutes, becoming the first player in NBA history to score that many points in less than 30 minutes of action. At All-Star Weekend, Thompson was a reserve on the Western Conference squad. Despite struggling in the playoffs, Thompson and the Warriors would capture their second NBA Championship, finishing with a 16-1 record in the playoffs.

Instagram Photo

This past season, Thompson has continued to break not only Warriors records, but NBA records. He became the 10th Warrior to reach 10,000 career points in a regular season on February 22, 2018. The Warriors are looking to repeat as champions, with Thompson at the helm.

Japan Is Trying To Avoid Running Out Of Whiskey

Back in 2014, Japan saw a boom in their domestic whiskey industry but time can change our fates, for better or for worse. Truly, it was an age to be alive! Now, just four years later, recent developments suggest that Japan is running out of whiskey, with Suntory officially announcing that sales of the Hakushu 12-year-old single malt and the Hibiki 17-year-old blend, each over a decade old, would stop, and the whole thing is a lesson in why you can have too much of a good thing.

What happened?

Whiskey

According to IT Media, Suntory officially announced that Hakushu 12 would end next month, with George Koutsakis at Forbes breaking that Hibiki 17 would meet a similar fate, although sales are expected to last until September. That said, just around four years prior, whiskey seemed like it reached its peak in the country, but you know what they say about peaks.

Japan actually had a domestic whiskey boom in 2014 partially thanks to a TV drama over Masataka Taketsuru, who is considered the founder of Japan’s whiskey industry. According to Kotaku, the show helped domestic brands, like Nikka and Suntory whiskeys, to fly off Japanese shelves.

Unfortunately, things couldn’t last forever for one simple reason: you can’t make whiskey overnight. Since whiskey hadn’t been as popular before, whiskey wasn’t in large enough production in the years before the boom. Once it became popular, there wasn’t enough time to replace the whiskey as it was flying off the shelves. Less spirit was put into wood to mature so there was less old whiskey.

What can be done to save Japan’s whiskey?

In order to keep production going, whiskey makers have no choice but to halt sales. Alternatively, these makers can sell drinks that don’t take as much time to make for the time being; Nikka, for example, has started to invest in clear spirits.

According to Nikkei, whiskey prices are also going up to coincide with their rarity, which is often how things work out. Some companies are also releasing single malts without age statements, which can allow for a wider range of whiskeys.

Finally, some companies can just expand their production and are planning to do just that, but it is not as simple as you think. Some companies, like Nikka, make their drinks by hand, so its going to be a bit complicated to increase production.

Cavaliers & Rockets: Decoding Their Ls & Looking Ahead

$

Spring fever has a knack for afflicting us right around when the Conference Finals start. One of its most egregious symptoms this year? Overreaction. That’s right, folks: as we move ever closer to June, the NBA universe is collapsing over a pair of Game 1s. If after 96 combined minutes of top-tier hoops you’ve resigned yourself to a Celtics/Warriors matchup in the NBA Finals, please get up, dust off the pollen, and keep reading, because these series are far from over.

Are We Really Sleeping on the King?

Instagram Photo

Hear that? In the distance? That’s the sound of LeBron James guffawing. I guess you couldn’t read between the lines, because he threw Game 1 just to spite you.

Maybe “threw” is an overstatement (especially since that very interesting Supreme Court decision hadn’t even been handed out yet on Sunday), but should we not be accustomed to these feel-out games by now? It’s hard to hand the series to the Celtics when the other team’s most valuable player took a calculated absence.

Instagram Photo

“Game 1 has always been a feel-out game for me, if you’ve ever followed my history,” said LeBron after the 25-point loss Sunday evening in Boston. LeBron quickly reminded us commoners that it is more useful for him to employ his eidetic memory as an observer than to make a concerted effort to win the first game of seven. You don’t necessarily need to look further back than the Cavs’ first two playoff series this year, but LeBron’s history of doing this is, indeed, on his side. Through 13 years of NBA postseason basketball, LeBron James is 8-6 in Game 2s that come after Game 1 losses. Ignore the Golden State Warriors for a fleeting moment, and you’ll see that those four other Game 2 losses came in 2008 or earlier. So, yeah, weird: the last time LeBron trailed 0-2 in a series against an Eastern Conference team was ten years ago against the Boston Celtics in the Conference Finals.

Instagram Photo

Don’t expect that specific tidbit of LeBron’s legend to repeat itself. Just look at the last five weeks: LeBron wasn’t aggressive in Game 1 of the first round, and the Cavs lost by 18 at home to the lower-seeded Pacers; LeBron called Game 1 of the Semifinals “one of [his] worst games of the season”, yet the Cavs pulled off a come-from-behind overtime win on the road in Toronto. While the latter says more about the Raptors–they held LeBron to 12-for-30 shooting and handed him the W anyway–the point is that LeBron can afford to not care about the final scores of these series openers.

Instagram Photo

The Cavaliers shot just 36% in Game 1 of the Conference Finals, and their 4-for-26 three-point shooting was certainly an anomaly. Kevin Love had 17 points, LeBron had 15, and the rest of the starters combined for 14. Tristan Thompson came off the bench and added eight points and 11 rebounds, and there are grumblings that he’s earned a Game 2 start. The adjustments the non-Bron Cavs need to make are there for the taking: making open shots, shutting down the fast break, attentive pick-and-roll defense, and communication.

Meanwhile, despite committing seven of the Cavs’ nine turnovers and being a -32 for the game, LeBron has “zero level of concern at this stage” because he’s now equipped with “a great sense of the way [the Celtics] played me [Sunday] and how I’ll play going into Game 2.” We should probably trust him–in Game 2s this year, he’s averaging 44.5 points, 10 rebounds, 9.5 assists, and a win.

Houston, Y’all Have (Fixable) Problems

Instagram Photo

The greatest team in NBA history won a basketball game on Monday night. Did this surprise you? The Golden State Warriors snatched Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals in a mockery of their alleged underdog statusKevin Durant, predictably, was unstoppable. His 37 points felt more like 57 as he went through insane stretches in the first and third quarters where he could not miss. Klay Thompson added 28, including a game-icing 11 in the fourth.

Instagram Photo

On the other side, James Harden led the Houston Rockets with 41 points on 14-for-24 shooting. He attempted his customary 10 free throws and was lethal from beyond the arc. Harden is an offensive marvel, but he can’t overthrow tyrants on his own. 41 is practically light work for the MVP hopeful at this point, because he has little choice at this point.

Chris Paul had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and shot 8-for-17 from the field. On paper, this looks fine. Good, even! Unfortunately for Chris, James, and the Rockets, this is not going to cut it. The superstar guards need to be scoring efficiently, often, and at the same time. They were able to leave the car on cruise control through the first two rounds, managing wins while exchanging big performances. But these are the Warriors. If Chris and James are as preoccupied with their playoff legacies as we think they are, they’ve got to buckle down and grind this series out together.

Instagram Photo

Counting points scored off of Harden and Paul’s assists, the All-Star backcourt accounted for 81% of the Rockets’ offensive production. Impressive, yes–but it’s not a good sign. This sort of top-heavy output is not sustainable against the defending champs. As long as P.J. Tucker and Ryan Anderson are combining for one entire point, Luc Mbah a Moute is shooting 0-for-6, and Trevor Ariza is accruing more fouls than made field goals, Houston is in trouble. If their best defense is their offense, and the Warriors own the best postseason defensive rating, the Rockets need to make changes now. Eric Gordon and Gerald Green will have to anchor the bench with at least 25 points between them per night. Tucker, Ariza, and Mbah a Moute must mirror their defensive exploits with catch-and-shoot dependability.

Instagram Photo

Clint Capela notched 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting on Monday and played the most excellent defense he could muster, considering he was a fish out of water in the context of the players around him. Capela, talented as he is, finds himself having to come out to guard on the perimeter–an exploitable weakness relished by Golden State.

He’s treading water defensively, but the biggest impact Capela can make is above the rim. As a member of Houston’s big three, Capela is going to have to get more touches. He has potential to be a true difference-maker in this series, so long as he’s put in a position to dominate. Posting up might not be his strength, but as long as he’s matching up with Draymond Green, it wouldn’t be ludicrous to get Capela going in the pick-and-roll–especially when Harden and Paul might be low on gas. Utilizing Clint’s athletic and size advantages will be key to a competitive Game 2.

Instagram Photo

So much for “seven seconds or less“. Head coach Mike D’Antoni has traded his infamous marathon-style offensive system for an isolation-heavy scoring procedure that caters to Harden and Paul’s strengths. This, in turn, weighs down the marquee duo with massive responsibility, and trims their margin for error to mere millimeters. When either one of two point guards dribbles in the half-court for upwards of 20 seconds, his four teammates suffer–especially when the team on the other side of the ball plays the inverse of their style.

In Game 1 against the Warriors, the Rockets committed three shot clock violations. It could easily have been six or seven, given how many times that 24-second buzzer went off while a desperate heave lingered in the air. Credit the Warriors’ defense, of course, but keep in mind that a dated reliance on iso-ball isn’t going to do Houston any favors in the coming week. It would instead do Houston well to incorporate spurts of D’Antoni’s retired philosophy, one ironically adopted and perfected by the Warriors.

Carrying over from the Semifinals, the Warriors started their small-ball death lineup for the third straight game–and for a few minutes, they actually looked flimsy! By the time Andre Iguodala picked up his second foul in the first period, the Warriors were down 12-4. The five wouldn’t join up again until the second half. To the Rockets’ chagrin, they combined for 39 points and outscored Houston by 10 in just over 13 minutes in the final two quarters. The [mega]death lineup went on a quintessential third-quarter run that took the life out of Houston, and made a seven-point game at the beginning of the fourth feel as out of reach as a 27-point deficit might.

Up until the Conference Finals, the Warriors and Rockets were leading playoffs scoring with 110.3 and 109.5 points per game, respectively. Monday’s final score, 119-106, proves that the Rockets were less than engaged on either end of the floor. Houston ranked sixth in defensive efficiency in the regular season thanks to a proclivity for switching, energized by offseason acquisitions Mbah a Moute and Tucker who can each guard 1 through 5. This defensive style is crucial to at least attempting to stop the Warriors as long as Green is thriving at the 5.

Instagram Photo

By his ethereal standards, Steph Curry had a bad game. He shot 1-for-5 from three, and was pretty much physically abused by the Rockets without any payoff at the charity stripe. The Rockets picked their poison, let KD cook, and lived with Curry scoring just 18. They were able to hang around until late in the fourth, but the prolonged offensive incapacities of players not named Harden sealed the result.

That Houston was able to avoid a blowout and force all five Warriors starters to stay on the floor until the final buzzer is encouraging, considering the intra-squad scoring disparities. In their preparations for Game 2, the Rockets need to address turnovers and fouls in addition to the aforementioned adjustments involving Capela and isolation play. The Rockets have to commit to playing their very best basketball. They truly have a shot at this, but must prove it on their home floor come Wednesday night. Otherwise? Back to the drawing board.

How Will Clint Frazier Impact The Yankees Lineup In 2018?

$
0
0

Fresh off beating their rival Red Sox, and overtaking them for first place in the American League East and MLB Power Rankings, the Yankees have added a big piece back to their roster. Clint Frazier, the 15thoverall prospect in the MLB in 2016 has rejoined the roster after recovering from a concussion. During his rehab stint, Frazier hit .322 with four home runs. The biggest question that Frazier brings to the table is, what kind of impact can he have? Also, where will he fit?

Impact

Instagram Photo

Frazier brings more power to the team, as he’s shown a ton of power in the minor leagues, with 66 total home runs, and he hit four home runs during his time in the MLB last season. He also brings versatility to the team, as he came up through the Indians/Yankees minor league system playing every position in the outfield. That gives great defensive versatility and Frazier gives rookie manager Aaron Boone an opportunity to rest players, especially aging Brett Gardner. Frazier could also prove to be an offensive upgrade over Aaron Hicks, who is batting .215 this season and is a .231 career hitter.

Fit

Instagram Photo

Brett Gardner is the resident senior on the Yankees at 34 years old, and while he is still great on the basepath, he is hitting .227 this season. Also, factoring in the oft-injured and overpaid Jacoby Ellsbury, Frazier has the opportunity to slide in when he’s needed in both center and left field. Frazier’s versatility is a huge weapon for Aaron Boone in the field, and he would fit right in with the rest of the “Baby Bombers” in the order. Frazier (23) helps with the youth injection in the Yankee lineup that also includes Aaron Judge (26), Ronald Torreyes (25) and Gleyber Torres (21). If Frazier can find a way to break into the starting lineup every night, he could prove to be a big impact player.

Elizabeth “Faith” Jewkes’ biggest claim to fame seems to be being the girlfriend of Clint Frazier of the New York Yankees but she is no less than a celebrity herself with thousands of followers on Instagram.

A native of Scottsdale, Arizona, Jewkes has baseball in her family; her brother Christian plays baseball, as well as football, at Limestone College. She herself attended North Buncombe High School and later studied Biological, Behavioural and Abnormal Psychology at Wofford College in South Carolina. A bit of an athlete herself, she ran college track and field team, even winning awards.

That said, her presence on Instagram cannot be ignored; her page currently has over 10K followers growing everyday in numbers. As can be seen in her pictures, she is fond of the beach and modeling her outfits, especially swimsuits. It kind of goes hand-in-hand with the beach, after all.

However, she is also regularly seen with Major League Baseball outfielder boyfriend Frazier, with Jewkes often talking about their relationship on social media. With their relationship going forward, Frazier often credits Jewkes’ presence in his life to be partially responsible for his success in life. In the past, Jewkes has said that he would not marry before he retires but Jewkes might have changed his mind on that.

Rachael Elena DelTondo, a Pennsylvania teacher who was recently suspended from her position after a police report regarding her having an encounter with an underage student from another school came to light, was killed by shooting late Sunday night this past Mother’s Day in the Aliquippa neighborhood, just outside of Pittsburgh.

What happened?

DelTondo, who was 32 at the time of her death, was shot after telling her family that she was out with a friend, according to WPXI. Police had been called in around 10:30 P.M. local time where they found DelTondo; she was found shot after getting out of her car, with neighbors claiming they heard around 10 to 12 gunshots. At this time, it is believed that she died at the scene.

According to Beaver Countian, DelTondo received multiple death threats, adding that she was warned at least once that she would not live to see the end of the year; DelTondo also confirmed that she reported the threats to authorities.

According to District Attorney David Lozier, investigators are trying to collect information from a cell phone that might give information on the case, although the owner of the cell phone was not identified.

Who is Rachael DelTondo?

According to Times Online, towards the end of last year, DelTondo was suspended with pay from her teaching job at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School after a police report alleging there had been an incident involving her and a former student came to light.

The incident, which took place early 2016, involved an officer finding Deltondo and the juvenile parked near Aliquippa Hospital property, noting that “the windows were steamed over and the engine was not running.” When qeustioned by the officer, Deltondo claimed that she was just friends with the student and that they were only talking; police added that she claimed she was only talking with the teen because “he was upset and needed someone to talk to.” Officers later drove the teen home.

No charges were filed against DelTondo over the incident, but the school became aware of the incident after being sent an anonymous email over the story this past October.

According to Times Online, Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School CEO Brian Hayden issued the following statement:

“Nobody, including Ms. Deltondo, the Aliquippa Police Department, the juvenile male or his family, or any other person or agency had informed PA Cyber of this or any other incident.”

“We understand that it is our legal and ethical responsibility to protect all children, which is why we have taken the actions that we have.”

The incident report named the teen and it was confirmed that he was not registered at the charter school.

Reportedly, her name was sometimes misspelled as “Rachel” in certain media publications concerning the story.

NBA Draft Lottery 2018: All Teams Odds Of Landing the First Overall Pick

Tonight brings us the NBA Draft Lottery, an always anticipated event that often draws more social media chatter than actual playoff games. This year’s lottery will be of particular interest given the strength of the prospect pool, what with DeAndre Ayton, Luka Doncic, Marvin Bagley III and Trae Young (and others) looking like potential franchise-changing superstars. Teams will be eager to nab one of these players as rookies have dominated the NBA Playoffs and have shown they can make a difference immediately. Without further ado, here are each of the Lottery teams odds of landing the first overall pick.

Odds & Chances For Each Team

Phoenix Suns: 25 Percent
Memphis Grizzlies: 19.9 Percent
Dallas Mavericks: 13.8 Percent
Atlanta Hawks: 13.7 Percent
Orlando Magic: 8.8 Percent
Chicago Bulls: 5.3 Percent
Sacremento Kings: 5.3 Percent
Cleveland Cavaliers (from Brooklyn Nets): 2.8 Percent
New York Knicks: 1.7 Percent
Philadelphia 76ers (from Los Angeles Lakers): 1.1 Percent (if this pick turns into the 2nd or 3rd overall selection it goes to Boston, otherwise it stays in Philly)
Charlotte Hornets: 0.8 Percent
Detroit Pistons: 0.7 Percent (this pick goes to the Clippers if it does not jump into the top 3)
Los Angeles Clippers: 0.6 Percent
Denver Nuggets: 0.5 Percent

There remains some speculation as to who would be selected first. It appears that the Suns, should they be so fortunate, are intent on taking Luka Doncic. They recently hired Doncic’s FIBA coach, Igor Kokoskov, who coached Luka and Slovenia to the FIBA Europe championship last summer. Other teams may take DeAndre Ayton, the Freshman center from Arizona who has drawn comparisons to David Robinson and Patrick Ewing.

The lottery will begin tonight on ESPN at 7:30 EST, concluding at 8:00 EST with the start of game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Celtics. Both teams actually have stakes in the lottery, as the Cavs have the eighth best odds of landing the top pick, and the Celtics, thanks to some convoluted scenarios involving trades from the past, could end up in the top 5.
