Taylor Swift: Hottest Photos On The Internet

When it comes to modern-day music royalty, Taylor Swift is near the top of the list. The 28-year-old singer burst onto the scene as an innocent country signer out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before becoming one of the fiercest pop stars in the world today. Swift has consistently topped the charts with singles from her solo albums and has earned some of the highest honors in the music industry. Throughout her career, Swift has won 10 Grammy Awards, 19 American Music Awards, a record 21 Billboard Music Awards, 12 Country Music Association Awards, 8 Academy of Country Music Awards, one Brit Award, and one Creative Arts Emmy Award.

Swift’s first album, which was self-titled, featured the single “Our Song.” That single made Swift the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a No. 1 song on the Hot Country Songs chart. She followed that up with Fearless, which went on to become the best-selling album of 2009, winning four Grammy Awards and earning Swift the Album of the Year honor.

She continued her success with Speak Now, an album that debuted at No. 1. Her fifth album became one of the most successful, featuring No. 1 hits “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” and “Ba Blood.” She won three Grammys for that album.

Swift recently released her sixth album, “Look What You Made Me Do,” and is set to kick off her world tour.

Throughout the summer of 2018, you will be able to catch Swift on the “Reputation Stadium Tour” along with her good friend Camila Cabello and Charli XCX. The 51-stop tour will begin on May 8, 2018, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, before wrapping up on November 9, 2018, at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand.

WATCH: Mayor Of Denver’s Son Berates Cop Over Speeding Ticket

“Do you know who my dad is?” is one of the most cringe-worthy lines a person can utter. It wreaks of entitlement and is so terribly cliché that I can’t imagine someone ever saying it seriously. Apparently, people do though.

Exhibit A: Jordan Hancock, son of Michael Hancock, the mayor of Denver.

In March 2018, Jordan was going 65 mph in a 40 zone and when the cops pulled him over he wasn’t too thrilled. The video of Jordan’s interaction with the police was released months later after his appearance in court.

Warning: this clip has offensive language. Via Denver7:

A bit strong, right? Now, I can imagine there’d be some pretty sweet perks that would come with having a parent who’s a mayor. Among the most attainable would be getting out of traffic tickets. That’s easy money. A guaranteed win for those with mayorial family connections.

We all know Jordan is well aware of this perk, but he clearly failed to attain it. Why? I think his attempt was just a litttttle off (and had one too many pejorative terms). I like to believe he was just a please, thank you, and small tranquilizer dose from getting his way. Or maybe don’t say anything at all. Smile, nod, then handle things outside the public eye like all the good politicians.

Moral of the story: if your dad’s the mayor, be cool, and don’t say your dad’s the mayor.

The officer also had an A+ line that’s worth pointing out. When responding to Jordan’s tirade about how his father is gonna be able to the fire the cop because he’s the mayor of Denver, the officer said:  “Of Denver? Well you’re in Aurora.”

After it was all said and done, the mayor’s son appeared in court and accepted the $250 fine.

Harry Kane Net Worth 2018: How Much Is He Worth?

Tottenham Hotspur forward, Harry Kane is a goal-scoring wizard. He’s currently in the race with Mohamed Salah of Liverpool to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot award. Kane won the award in both 2017 with 29 goals and in 2016 with 25 goals. He’s expecting to score a hat-trick by winning the award for the third year in a row, however, his dreams may be squashed by Salah. The Reds player has 31 goals so far while Kane has 27. With the Premier League season coming to an end, Kane has little time to surpass Salah. Nonetheless, he’s a man whose existence is defined by his stellar ability to score goals, so there’s still hope yet. Even if he doesn’t receive the award this year, Kane still stands as one of the best players in the league, one of the top-scorers in Europe and one of the most expensive players in the world. Let’s find out how much the Englishman is worth today!

Harry Kane Net Worth 2018: $49 million

Harry Kane obviously has a golden shot. After all, he is a two-time winner of the Golden Boot award. As of 2018, his net worth is estimated to be around $49 million. He currently earns £100,000 weekly for the Spurs.

Early Days

Instagram Photo

Born on July 28, 1993, in Walthamstow, England, Kane expressed his love for soccer at an early age. He started out in the youth ranks. In 2001, he played for the Arsenal youth academy and then went on to play for Waterford and Tottenham. In the 2009/2010 season for the under-18 Tottenham club, Kane scored 18 goals in 22 matches. Following this, on a loan, he moved to Leyton Orient FC. After a year, he loaned out to Millwall.

Professional Debut

Instagram Photo

Kane effortlessly transitioned into the pro league. On August 25, 2011, he made his first appearance with Tottenham during the second leg of their UEFA Europa League qualification round against Hearts FC. Following this, a year later in August 2012, he saw time in a pre-season game against Southend United. He scored a hat trick, helping the Spurs secure a 6-0 win. Then on August 18 of the same year, he made his Premier League debut with the club. Later in the year, on a loan, he switched to Norwich City and then again on a loan, played 13 matches with Leicester City. Finally, on May 14, 2013, Kane returned to the Spurs for good.

His Shining Year

Instagram Photo

Kane’s 2014/2015 season was when he started to get a copious amount of well-deserved recognition. In February 2015, the then 21-year-old won the Premier League Player of the Month award. He scored his first Premier League hat-trick a month later in a 4-3 win against his former club, Leicester City. Shortly thereafter, he was named PFA Young Player of the Year after he racked up a staggering 31 goals. He obviously hasn’t let up with the goal-scoring since then.

Present Day

Instagram Photo

Kane has continued to wow us all. It was recently announced he made it on PFA’s League Team of the Year for attack, alongside Salah and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero. This came as no surprise though because Kane has earned a spot on this coveted team every year since 2015. Last year, Kane became the top scorer not just in his country but in all of Europe, beating out soccer superstars Messi and Ronaldo. There are rumors that at this point, Kane has more transfer value than even Messi. At the ripe age of 24, Kane still has much to look forward to in his soccer career.

Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Suspended for Five Years At Wisconsin University

The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has been suspended for five years. The Interfraternity Council at the university suspended fraternity chapter for five years for holding a fraternity-sponsored event while already on emergency suspension.

According to reports, the emergency suspension, which came from the Dean of Students’ office, was put into place Monday, April 16. The terms of this suspension said the group is under investigation because of “possibly jeopardizing individual or community safety”. The suspension prohibited any formal or informal gatherings of any kind by the fraternity.

However, despite the suspension, the fraternity held an event in Lake Geneva on April 28. According to The Royal Purple, Pi Kappa Alpha chapter president Nolan Robinson declined to comment as the investigation is still ongoing.

This is the latest major fraternity or sorority suspension in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State and Penn State have all suspended fraternities in the wake of hazing and alcohol deaths.

These reports come amidst similar allegations that have been made against fraternities nationwide, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon at East Carolina University, who were shut down for hazing and the Lamda Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Arkansas which has been accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of women without their permission.

In response to incidents like these, fraternities such Phi Kappa Psi have made numerous changes to their code of conduct in an effort to address the issues that have arisen. In addition, schools such as Texas State have introduced new Greek Life rules to try and prevent these problems.

The University of Warwick has suspended 11 students after screenshots of a group text message chat emerged in which they allegedly threatened to rape and sexually assault their classmates.

According to The Boar, 98 screenshots have been submitted as evidence. Screenshots showed one chat member wrote: “Rape her friends too,” with another replying: “Sometimes it’s fun to just go wild and rape 100 girls.” At this time, West Midlands Police said it is “investigating to see if any police action needs to be taken.”

Furthermore, a University of Warwick spokesman said: “a possible student disciplinary incident is currently being actively investigated.”

via The Boar:

“Ninety-eight screenshots from the chat were submitted to the University as part of the complaint. Those handed precautionary suspensions include senior members of several society execs, both academic and sporting. Among those temporarily suspended are alleged to be social secretaries, tour secretaries, a careers officer and a treasurer, both outgoing and incoming.

As part of their exec roles, several of the students represented Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC) in the context of their society’s charity work. In messages seen by The Boar, there are multiple references to rape. One screenshot reveals there were 19 results for the word “rape” in the group chat.

Under one search for “rape”, the chat members discuss raping another female individual and her friends.”

A University of Warwick student union spokeswoman said:

“Warwick SU is aware of the ongoing university investigation into a group Facebook chat involving a number of Warwick students. The SU condemns the content of these messages – together with all forms of sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, ableism, and threats of violence – in the strongest possible terms.

The SU has been supporting the victims and will continue to do so. We are also proactively cooperating with the university’s ongoing investigation, and hope to see a conclusion as swiftly as possible.”

The University of Warwick is ranked 11th in the United Kingdom.

Story of student getting a perfect score on the SAT, ACT, and PSAT sounds like the plot of a Disney movie

The results are in and Ryan Robbins of Naperville North High School will be going to college next year. Good on you, man.

The 16-year-old junior from Naperville, IL earned himself a triple crown by receiving a perfect score on the ACT, SAT, and Preliminary SAT. I think scoring perfectly on the PSAT is most impressive. No one takes it seriously, so he probably had to ward off the naysayers cracking jokes in the back and zone out the kid eating pretzels next to him. Incredible concentration, Ryan.

Honestly, this is beyond impressive and I can’t begin to understand how it happens. Ryan said he attended a few tutoring sessions, but I’m thinking there’s more to the story… I’m never one to accuse a high schooler of an Ocean’s Eleven-style of  heist, but how do you get every ACT Science question right without having the stolen answers on the back of your calculator? Again, I’d never make such an accusation, but c’mon, Ryan’s making his classmates look bad.

Particularly, Richard Li, another Junior at his school, who also got a perfect score on both the SAT and ACT. He fell short on that damn PSAT though, and he’ll probably never hear the end of it from Ryan. This Ryan and Richard battle of the goliaths has to be one of the all-time greats at Naperville High. Two students in the same year, at the same school, getting perfect scores on the SAT and ACT is the stuff Disney Channel original movies are made for. Junior year went to Ryan, but we’ll see what goes down in next year’s finale. Richard has something cooking I’m sure.

As for where Ryan plans on going to college, the Naperville Sun reports:

The 16-year-old said he is leaning toward attending college somewhere on the East Coast.

Last year he visited New York, Brown and Columbia universities. This summer he’s going to check out the University of Virginia, Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and the University of North Carolina.

He’s leaning toward a liberal arts degree in history and with a possible goal of attending law school.

Ryan isn’t afraid to share his knowledge, and he volunteers with the Naperville-student based nonprofit group known as the Merry Tutors.

With three perfect scores on his resume, Ryan likely could line up a few paid gigs teaching fellow teens they can do it too. “I actually haven’t thought about that,” he said.

North Allegheny Intermediate Bomb Threat: Full Story of High School Evacuation

North Allegheny Intermediate High School evacuated this morning due to a bomb threat. Police are currently on scene investigating. Students are being evacuated to nearby Carson Middle School.

North Allegheny Intermediate High School is a suburban high school in the North Allegheny School District located in McCandless, Pennsylvania, a community north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school is located at 350 Cumberland Road in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is one of two high schools in the district.

The North Allegheny School District released a statement on Twitter, saying “at approximately 9:45 a.m. NAI was placed on lockdown due to a bomb threat. The building was evacuated and all students/staff are safe at this time. Students are being evacuated to CMS. Police are on scene and actively investigating the threat.”

Furthermore, the school asked that parents do not report to the school. There is no word on who is responsible for the bomb threat at this time.

The bomb threat at North Allegheny Intermediate is just the latest in a string of threats, lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.

Over the course of the past few years, shootings such as these have been a scourge upon the country and people have struggled with coming up with a solution. Lockdowns have become all too common as a means of protection when students and faculty are in danger and today is no different.

This lockdown follows incidents at Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where events such as this have occurred.

Who Is Tony Kim? North Korean Prisoner Information

Kim Sang-duk, also known as Tony Kim, spent a month teaching at the foreign-funded Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST) before he was arrested in 2017. However, it has now been reported that Kim had been released and would return to the United States with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

What happened?

In 2017, Kim and Kim Hak-song were arrested after being accused of carrying out acts against the Kim Jong Un regime. Both men worked at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, a privately-run university. A third person, Kim Dong Chul, was previously arrested in 2015 on charges of spying on behalf of South Korea.

On his official Twitter account, President Donald Trump announced that the three Americans were released and would soon be returning to the United States:

“I am pleased to inform you that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in the air and on his way back from North Korea with the 3 wonderful gentlemen that everyone is looking so forward to meeting. They seem to be in good health. Also, good meeting with Kim Jong Un. Date & Place set.”

This was followed up by a tweet from Mike Pompeo who issued the following statement:

“I had productive meetings in Pyongyang with Chairman Kim Jong-un and made progress. I’m delighted to bring home three Americans.”

Who is Tony Kim?

Kim Sang-duk, also known as Tony Kim, is identified as an American national who taught at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology as a visiting professor several weeks before his arrest at the Pyongyang International Airport, also known as the Pyongyang Sunan International Airport, which happened while he was trying to leave North Korea.

Kim was also said to be living in China at the time of his arrest and travelled to the school over half a dozen times. According to the BBC, he also worked at the Yanbian University of Science and Technology in China, which is affiliated with the Pyongyang school.

According to CNN, upon the news that the three detainees would be returning to the United States, Kim’s family thank President Trump in a statement issued on Wednesday:

“We are very grateful for the release of our husband and father, Tony Kim, and the other two American detainees. We want to thank all of those who have worked toward and contributed to his return home. We also want to thank the President for engaging directly with North Korea. Mostly, we thank God for Tony’s safe return.”

Before the news of Kim’s release came to light, just last week, Tony Kim’s son, Sol Kim, told CBS News what it was like learning about his father’s arrest:

“I asked myself why, what happened, what is the reason, lots of different thoughts went through my head. Will I see him again?”

“Part of me really thought he did not do anything wrong, he won’t be held very long.”

Roman Polanski is a French-Polish film director, producer, writer, and actor. He is known for directing and writing in films like Chinatown, The Pianist, The Ghostwriter, and Carnage. Since 1978, he has been a fugitive from the U.S. criminal justice system, having fled the country while awaiting sentencing for statutory rape. He has continued to make films since then, however, by shooting much of his work throughout Europe.

Roman Polanski Net Worth As Of 2018: $45 Million

The 84-year-old filmmaker has accumulated a massive $45 million fortune throughout his career. Let’s take a look back at how it all began for this successful yet controversial director.

Early Life

Instagram Photo

Polanski was born in Paris on August 18, 1933. His Polish-Jewish parents moved the family back to Poland in 1937 when he was four. Two years later Poland was invaded by Nazi Germany and the USSR starting World War II during which Polanski spent the next six years of his childhood mostly on his own, trying to survive the ongoing Holocaust.

1962-1968

Polanski’s first feature-length film, Knife in the Water (1962), was made in Poland and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He has since received five more Oscar nominations, along with one Golden Globe Award. In the United Kingdom he directed three films, beginning with Repulsion (1965). In 1968 he moved to the United States and cemented his status by directing the horror film Rosemary’s Baby (1968).

1969-1974

A turning point in his life took place in 1969, when his pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, and four friends were brutally murdered by members of the Manson Family. Following her death, Polanski returned to Europe and eventually continued directing. He made Macbeth (1971) in England and back in Hollywood, Chinatown (1974), which was nominated for eleven Academy Awards.

1977-2002

In 1977, Polanski was arrested and charged with drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl. He subsequently pled guilty to the lesser offense of unlawful sex with a minor. After spending 42 days undergoing a psychiatric evaluation in prison in preparation for sentencing, Polanski, who had expected to be put on probation, learned that the judge planned to imprison him, so he fled to Paris. In Europe, Polanski continued to make films, including Tess (1979), which received three Oscars. He later produced and directed the World War II drama, The Pianist (2002), which won another three Oscars including Best Director. That was the first and only Academy Award Polanski has won.

2003-Present

Instagram Photo

Polanski continued to make films outside of the U.S. in the 2000’s. He directed Oliver Twist (2005), a story which parallels his own life as a boy trying to triumph over adversity. He also received critical acclaim for his work as both a director and writer on, The Ghost Writer (2010). In May 2018, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it was expelling him. Polanski responded by saying he would sue the Oscar’s organization and requested a fair hearing.

Claire Elise Boucher, better known by her stage name Grimes, is a Canadian musician, songwriter, record producer and visual artist. Grimes released the studio albums Geidi Primes and Halfaxa in 2010. She signed a recording contract with 4AD in 2011. Grimes’ music is influenced by electronic, pop, hip-hop and R&B and experimental music.

Grimes’ third studio album Visions, released in 2012, received widespread critical acclaim, with the New York Times calling it “one of the most impressive albums of the year.” Her fourth studio album “Art Angels” was released in 2015 and received widespread critical acclaim.

According to Page Six, Elon Musk noticed the 30-year-old musician as he was researching a joke he was going to make on Twitter about artificial intelligence, only to find that Grimes had already made a similar joke.

“Elon was researching the idea of joking about Rococo Basilisk, and when he saw Grimes had already joked about it, he reached out to her. Grimes said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke. They were both poking fun at AI,” the Page Six report says.

This all sounds like something out of a bad dystopian future sci-fi rom-com.

Jordan Peele’s New “Nightmare” Film ‘Us’ Given Early 2019 Release Date

Universal

Jordan Peele is wasting absolutely no time resting on his Academy Award-winning laurels as his next project, Us, has been given an early 2019 release date.

According to Variety, Lupita Nyong’o, Elisabeth Moss, and Winston Duke are in talks to star in the follow-up to Peele’s Academy Award-winning film Get Out. Three years ago, Peele was best known as the Player Formerly Known as Mousecop and now he’s an in-demand, Academy Award-winning director. What a world.

Being billed as “a new nightmare from the mind of Academy Winner Jordan Peele”, Us, — despite being in its early stages — seems to be going for the same vibe as his ultra-successful directorial debut Get Out. Just like Get Out, the film is obviously being written and directed by Peele himself.

via Variety:

The film is the initial project under Peele’s first-look deal with Universal Pictures, which he signed along with his Monkeypaw Productions last spring. “Get Out” opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office last February on its way to grossing $255 million worldwide. It scored glowing reviews and an Oscar best picture nomination, with Peele winning best original screenplay for the thriller.

Peele will write and direct the pic, with plot details currently kept under wraps. Peele will produce for Monkeypaw Productions alongside Sean McKittrick and Jason Blum.

While Peele is only one film into his directorial career, everything he’s been involved with over the last few years leads us to believe that Us is going to be another smash-hit.

Us Release Date: March 15, 2019.

Us is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 15, 2019.

School Board

One student who was punished for taking part in a school walkout, who story even inspired the governor of New York to take action, Gabrielle Anzalone, has decided to take the system into her own hands by joining her district’s school board just as she is about to graduate high school.

What happened?

Anzalone, 18, attends Lindenhurst High School on Long Island and is set to graduate this upcoming June, but she already has her career aspirations set into motion. This isn’t the first time she wanted to make her voice heard; she had been inspired to run for office after she and other students were punished with extended detention for joining a March 14 walkout on the one-month anniversary of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

At the time, the school’s punishment sparked national headlines, with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo even urging the state Education Department to reverse the action on social media, writing the following on Twitter:

“New York State schools should not punish students for participating in yesterday’s gun safety walkout.”

“Today I issued a letter to State Education Commissioner Elia urging her to use Dept authority to reverse course and cease any disciplinary actions. #nationalwalkout”

Eventually, the students’ punishment was reversed, but the incident still inspired Anzalone to take action.

What do we know about the upcoming election?

She is currently running for an open board seat against Josephine Martino, who is a parent and a former PTA leader of another school. If elected, Anzalone would be the board’s youngest member. The winner of the election would keep the position until June 2020.
On her campaign’s official Facebook page, she outlined her platform and plans for her possible term:
“Hello, my name is Gabrielle Anzalone, I am a senior at Lindenhurst High School, and I am pleased to announce that I am officially running for the vacant seat on the Board of Education. As a board member, I will work tirelessly towards bridging the generational gap between the student body and the members serving on the board.”
“The process to forging a more competent youth and a stronger nation begins in the classroom, and as such it is imperative that we take into account the needs of the students. They will not be able to achieve success if they do not feel secure or as if they are not taken seriously, which is why it is crucial to provide them with a representative who understands what is truly in their best interests. As a current student and soon-to-be alumna, I know the hopes, desires, and struggles of our community’s youth. So I implore you, join me in my endeavor, so we can give Lindenhurst students the education they deserve and bring this district closer to its full potential. Join the fight for our future here. “

In a statement with CNN, she clarified that this wasn’t an attempt to get revenge on the school board, but wanted to transform a system she felt failed to support her and the other students when she was trying to take a stand:

“As students, our voices were ironically unheard by those who are supposed to represent us and our interests. In no way am I running to spite the board. If elected, I plan to cooperate and work hard to resolve the issues in my community.”

Yunfeng Lu: Full Story & Must-See On Hangover Pill

Yunfeng Lu, a scientist and professor in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles, in addition to being a self-proclaimed “wine enthusiast,” has announced plans to develop a new hangover pill, after a prototype he developed proved successful on test mice, cutting their blood-alcohol levels in half in a period of four hours.

The pill was developed using natural enzymes

In an article Lu himself wrote for The Conversation, he noted that current treatments for alcohol overdose heavily rely on the body’s own enzymes to break down alcohol; Using this information, he decided to develop capsules filled with three natural enzymes,  which convert alcohol into harmless molecules that are then excreted and can usually be found in liver cells to help the body process alcohol faster. While this might seem simple enough, with the enzymes being naturally occurring, the main issue was finding a simple and safe play of inserting them into the body.

Working with his colleagues, professor Cheng Ji, an expert in liver diseases from Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, and Duo Xu, Lu’s own graduate student, he developed a remedy and tested in on mice. As mentioned, a priority for the pill was developing it in a way that they could be inserted in the body safely, so in order to protect the enzymes, they are wrapped up each of them in a shell using material that has already been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Essentially nanocapsules, they are injected into the veins of drunk mice, traveling through their circulatory system until they reach the liver, where they help digest alcohol.

What were the benefits of the drug prototype?

As mentioned above, mice that were given the injections saw their blood alcohol level decrease by 45% in just four hours when compared to mice that did not receive the treatment.

In addition, the blood concentration of acetaldehyde, a toxic, carcinogenic compound, was also extremely low in these mice, which could reduce chances of headaches and vomiting in these mice, a benefit that Lu hopes could make the prototype popular.

Added to that, the mice who were given the treatment were also found to have woken up faster than the untreated mice and should also protect the liver from stress and damage caused by alcohol.

Lu confirmed, however, that more studies were needed to confirm whether or not there were negative consequences to the pill. If the treatments prove successful, tests involving human patients could start as early as a year from now.

As Lu warned, however, the “hangover pill” won’t really prevent people from going consuming alcohol too much but would only help them recover quickly, ending on a note that it’s important for people to drink responsibly.

Christopher Snyder, 41, killed three people inside his neighbor’s house after a domestic dispute with his wife and then fatally shot himself during a standoff with police, authorities say.

Snyder, of Brookeville, Maryland, was found dead inside his home Monday night, May 7, more than six hours after the fatal shootings next door, the Montgomery County Police Department said.

During a press briefing after the standoff ended, the Montgomery County Police Chief said that Snyder’s 33-year-old wife was held hostage by her husband in their home over the weekend. His wife said she was able to escape on Monday and fled to her neighbor’s house. Snyder followed her there and opened fire, killing three people. His wife was able to escape along with two others.

He then returned to his home where he refused to peacefully surrender. When SWAT members breached the front door shortly after 11 PM, Snyder shot and killed himself.

The three victims have been identified as Mary Olson, 66, Danny Lee Murphy, 70; and Craig Harold Shotwell, 54. Pictures of them from Kevin Lewis of ABC7 are below.

On Tuesday, neighbors had nothing kind to say about Snyder. The variety of words used to describe the 41-year-old, included: aggressive, blowhard, cocky, private and strange – the kind of person you best not cross in a moment of disagreement most agreed.

According to multiple law enforcement sources, Snyder worked as a trainer at Code 3 Tactical Academy located in Columbia, Maryland, where he taught mixed martial arts, self-defense and tactical courses. At the 12,000-square-foot gym, however, Snyder went by the name, Chris Smith. A video posted on the facility’s Facebook page featured Snyder’s skill set.

Highland Elementary School in Bakersfield, California is currently on lockdown as deputies search for a naked man in the area who is also believed to be armed with a knife. According to reports, he was last seen in the area of China Grade Loop and Barnett Street in Oildale. It’s believed officers originally arrived at a home in the area when the man fled the residence to elude the deputies.

What happened?

“Update: The suspect is in custody and the lockdown was lifted, according to Kern County Sheriff’s Office.”

According to Turn To 23, the school was put on lockdown as officials were trying to make sense of the situation, being unsure if the man was unarmed:

“As a precautionary the school locked down because officials weren’t sure if the naked man was in possession of a knife.”

“The man was apprehended and arrested just after 11 a.m. on E. Highland, between Harrison and Naylor.”

Rockets vs. Warriors: 3 Keys for Each Western Conference Contender

Ladies and gentlemen, your Western Conference Finals matchup is set. As fate would have it, the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors will face off for a trip to the NBA Finals. Can the Rockets–custom-made to dethrone the Dubs–pull one (well, four) over on the reigning champs? They believe they can, but they’ll need to hone in on at least three matters of import, while the Warriors address three of their own:

Chris Paul & James Harden Need to Dominate Together

Instagram Photo

On Tuesday, May 7, the Rockets eliminated the Utah Jazz behind a performance for the ages by Chris Paul. CP3, who had played the most playoff games in NBA history (86) without once reaching a Conference Finals, should feel vindicated after 12 long years of patience and hard work. His fourth-quarter performance was equal parts poetry and clapback–Paul could hardly miss, shooting 7-for-9 in the final 12, including a two-minute stretch when the hoop must have looked as wide as the Grand Canyon for him. The momentous exploit was, as one Twitter user put it, akin to watching Paul “retweeting old memes about him live on a basketball court”. CP hit an insane eight three-pointers out of ten attempts, and in all, netted 41 points, 10 assists, and zero turnovers in a closeout game. No one else in NBA history has accomplished that.

Chris Paul is one of the greatest point guards in NBA history, and he’s finally liberated himself of his most asphyxiating basketball chokehold to date. But for a competitor of his ilk, a hasty elimination from the Conference Finals by the world’s greatest team would mean failure. If Chris wants a shot at a title this year, he and James Harden will need to both be as close to flawless as possible in every game against the Warriors. The Rockets, who boast an 8-2 postseason record through the first two rounds, have coasted on up-and-down play from either half of their marquee duo.

Paul’s 41-point output Tuesday night was matched by Harden scoring 18 on 7-for-22 shooting. Jim may have been under the weather, and the Rockets may have made it look like they’d won easily, but Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz had them on the ropes in the third following a 22-point quarter from the West’s premier rookie. Houston lucked out when Mitchell sustained a foot injury down the stretch of the fourth, opening up the opportunity for Paul to ball out and cancel a second trip to Salt Lake City.

While Paul and Harden have the advantage of sharing leadership responsibilities, they can no longer subsist on exchanging big scoring nights. They each need to be efficient, alert, and resourceful to outsmart a Warriors defense that will succeed by causing as much chaos as possible. They’re each other’s best insurance policy, but there remains a question of urgency that Golden State won’t hesitate to exploit–what if Harden freezes up as if assaulted by a Nerdluck like he did against San Antonio in 2017? For some preliminary damage control, head coach Mike D’Antoni should strongly consider assigning primary ball-handling duties to Paul, whose assist-to-turnover ratio far outweighs Harden’s.

The Rockets haven’t won anything meaningful yet. Their backcourt anchors have no choice but to play as if every game is their last.

Don’t Expect the Threes to Save You

Instagram Photo

The Rockets’ offensive style–threes, layups, and more threes–isn’t necessarily sustainable. They’re a volume-shooting team whose best defense is their perimeter offense; outscoring the Rockets is an obstacle few teams but Golden State can hurdle. In three regular-season matchups against the Warriors, the Rockets scored 15, 17, and 14 three-pointers while Golden State matched them with 16, 13, and 17, respectively. Ironically, the Rockets won both games in which they were outscored from three.

That doesn’t mean they can lollygag on the perimeter and get complacent. Shoot all you want: there’s no guarantee that the right number will fall each night. In Houston’s sole Semifinals loss to the Jazz–a winnable home game–they shot 10-for-37 from beyond the arc, and couldn’t capitalize on scoring in the paint. Utah went 15-for-32, beating them at their own charade.

The Rockets will need to diversify their offensive attack. That doesn’t mean they need to resort to the godforsaken midrange, but it may yield a heavier workload for Clint Capela, who averaged 15 points and 11.5 rebounds in the Utah series. The reliability of Capela, a Most Improved Player candidate, was crucial to the Rockets’ 65-win season. Weaponizing his athleticism around the rim will be key for Houston, and something the Warriors may have to live with; while their domination of the Pelicans hinged on suffocating Anthony Davis in the paint, the Dubs can’t fathom prioritizing Capela over Harden and Paul.

Pick Your Poison

The Golden State Warriors are special. There are four All-Stars on staff. They’re one of the greatest basketball teams of all time. You already know this! The Rockets know this better than you, though–that’s why GM Daryl Morey made the moves he did in the offseason, bringing in versatile defensive players and bolstering the perimeter. Now, we know what happened back East when the Raptors made over their culture simply to vanquish one LeBron James. While the Rockets may be miles more prepared to take down the West’s version of LeBron, a matchup issue remains: when the Rockets go small, who can be expected to stop Kevin Durant?

The Pelicans snatched a convincing W from the Warriors in the Semifinals, but their greatest accomplishment was playing well enough to convince Steve Kerr to start the death lineup for the first time ever. Said lineup–Steph Curry, Andre Iguodala, Klay Thompson, Durant, and Draymond Green–was once saved for break-in-case-of-emergency situations. The Pels proved enough of a threat to completely bump Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee from the Warriors’ rotation; with Draymond at the 5, this defensive nightmare of a squad was a +49 in combined minutes over Games 4 and 5 against New Orleans. Whether or not Kerr will turn to this fearsome five in Houston come Monday remains unclear, but it may be his best bet.

With Capela’s defensive effectiveness limited to hawking the paint, Trevor Ariza and P.J. Tucker are going to devote a hell of a lot of energy to slowing down KD on the perimeter. Durant may be shooting an abysmal 27.9% from three this postseason, but it would be foolish to not expect that percentage to shoot up. KD is primed for a breakout series, especially after being chided by Green for not being aggressive enough against the Pelicans. The Rockets will need to respect every shot he gets off if they want to slow him down, but that will mean relenting to Curry and Thompson. Curry, coming off an MCL injury that saw him miss a month and a half of action, has begun to regain his rhythm and is due a few signature, explosive scoring nights. Thompson had an up-and-down Semifinals, shooting just 27.9% beyond the arc and 38.4% overall.

Therein lies the problem: Durant, Curry, and Thompson averaged 72.1 points combined in the Conference Semifinals despite all playing relatively (note: relatively) mediocre basketball. Add Green–who averaged a triple-double in the same series–to that scoring total, and it becomes a mammoth 86.9 points out of a team average of 115. The Warriors’ core accounted for a whopping 75.6% of the team’s product, and not a single one of them (except maybe Draymond) has even approached their peak. The Rockets have a lot to concern themselves with defensively: there’s no way to shut down every All-Star, but starting with Kevin Durant may be their best option.

Take Care of the Rock

The Warriors need to cut down on turnovers, the top hindrance to their otherworldly offense. Prioritizing precision passing, eyes-up alertness, and just smart decision-making will carry them over the top. They’re averaging 13.4 turnovers in the postseason, down from 15.4 in the regular season, which is good, but not quite great enough. The Rockets, meanwhile, are only turning the ball over 9.7 times on average. Reconcile this with Houston playing at a pace of 98.29 possessions per game and Golden State at 101.82, and the Rockets have a two-possession advantage per game as they put up 109.5 points per game to the Warriors’ 110.3.

These teams are too close in terms of scoring, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage for every single possession not to count. If the Warriors are going to try to outrun and exhaust the Rockets, they need to put up at least 120 points per game by healthily distributing their scoring and managing each offensive opportunity as if it’s their only.

Keep Harden off the Free Throw Line

Instagram Photo

Whether or not you think James Harden’s flopping is bad for basketball matters little, because as long as the referees let him run shop at the charity stripe, he’s automatically putting the Rockets in a better position to win. Notably, this profusely frustrating yet masterful tactic by Harden got under Donovan Mitchell’s skin during the Semifinals. While the rookie is right to acknowledge that this particular piece of Harden’s game is an ironic ingredient to MVP votes and an unnerving obstacle to overcoming the Rockets, the more experienced Warriors will, in turn, put themselves in a great position if they remain defensively disciplined.

Harden participated in two of three Rockets/Warriors regular-season contests, and attempted just six free throws total. Credit? Klay Thompson. As Harden tiptoes the “unguardable” label, Thompson, as his primary defender in either contest, was not responsible for a single one of those aforementioned six, despite guarding him for an average of 38.5 possessions (more than any other Thompson matchup all year, per NBA.com stats). Thompson already carries a heavy load offensively, and will have to play excellent defense on Harden to optimize the Warriors’ shot at a short series. Klay’s proven that he’s up to the challenge.

Patience, Please

For the first time in the Steve Kerr era, the Dubs are the lower-seeded team coming into the Western Conference Finals. Kerr sacrificed the prospect of home-court advantage in favor of the health of his golden core, which may well prove a winner’s move. The Warriors approach their fourth consecutive Conference Finals with a champion’s confidence, and plainly understand that in reality, it’s the Rockets who are chasing them.

Instagram Photo

The Warriors have lost two road games–one each to San Antonio and New Orleans–this postseason, but have basked in a 15-game playoff winning streak at home that dates back to their very first game of the 2017 Playoffs. They won’t play in Oakland until May 20, though, and for the first time this postseason will start a series on the road. While the Dubs should feel encouraged that Houston has a blemished postseason home record, they have little choice but to split (at the very least) this first pair of games if they’re going to suck the life out of the Rockets as early as possible.

In four road playoff games, the Warriors are scoring 104.5 points on 43.7% shooting and turning the ball over 12.8 times with a 2-2 record. In six home playoff games, the Rockets are scoring 109.7 points on 44.4% shooting and turning the ball over 9.7 times with a 5-1 record. Golden State will have to operate with patience, intelligence, and their signature coolness to break these trends and take the next step towards holding onto their 2017 hardware.

Can you remember October 17, 2017? The season opener? When the Warriors received their championship rings? Before a game against the Rockets? Which ended with a waived-off almost-buzzer-beating game-winner by Kevin Durant? When the Rockets won? And carried that momentum on their way to compiling the NBA’s best record? Yeah. This should be good.
